Er... guys, this is not the end of your character's stat rolling.. This update leads you to until they are about 10 or so and start getting their education. Events there will also impact base stats as well start to give you traits.

That's also why I want Andustar – with high Learning it's easier to deal with some weird things.
We'll probably the weirdest thing around for a while lol. I imagine learning will be helpful with the proliferation of our knowledge and learning languages moreso than with the supernatural. At least in the beginning I think.

Yeah I knew that, I was just joking about getting 1s in all our dice lol.

Votes are very scattered. I'll leave them up a bit longer.

Huh interesting, some votes weren't counted, the tally can be strange sometimes

Edit
Sunset Arrivals 5
The Highlander 1
Bringing a Numenorian Light to this probably-barbarian world 1
New line of Kings 1

Just realized my plan title didn't have the proper bracket. And the people who copy pasted it also didn't get counted for that reason. Same with "New line of Kings", its why the title was cut off.

Arc 0 Part 2: With Searching Gaze
With Searching Gaze

You are Eriol son of Henderch and your first memories are of soft hands and the clean crisp smell of the nursery and as all children are wont to to you gained an affection for the nursemaids who cared for you, but as the years passed and the world revolved itself from a confusing ever mélange of shapes and colors into the ordered and predictable life in Agathaphan, as play and babble gave way to lessons and a growing understanding of the world you began to grasp that there was some great and special distinction between Oba who cared for you and your mother who came by to shower you with praise and affection but also to remind you of your station...

"Mama what's a slave?" you ask, sounding out the word you had only just learned carefully. It seemed to make all of your nurses sad

She tells you, not all at once, not directly, but you are a clever child. You can put two and two together and make four, even four and four together to make eight.

How do you react to understanding the nature of slavery?

[] With equanimity, you accept your mother's explanation of the practice and its reasons (Gain Trait Haughty -1 Diplomacy +1 Intrigue)

[] With outrage, people aren't things, things break, you do not want Oba and Ibi to break (Gain Trait Kind +2 Diplomacy -1 Martial -1 Intrigue)

As you grow, tall and strong by the measure of other men certainly is there anything about you that draws the eye of your parents or the master at arms?

You have 4 Bonus Points

[] You are Nearsighted, something the craft of Numanor can compensate for, but your father scoffs at the sight of your new spectacles, saying they will serve you poorly on the field of battle (Gain Nearsighted -1 Martial -10 to all Combat Rolls should you lose your Glasses; Gain a Bonus Point)

[] Not having any siblings, nor any other children of your station and age you are Shy, almost a recluse, your mother complains (Gain Shy -2 Diplomacy -5 to all social rolls dealing with loud and boisterous activities like feasts and dances Gain a Bonus Point)

[] You fight as easily with your right hand as with your left (Gain Ambidextrous; Against an opponent who has not faced you before Re-roll the first failed combat roll; Cost 1 Bonus point)

[] You are gregarious and silver-tongued enough to draw smiles even from aged lords with faces like won parchment and gimlet eyes (Gain Silver Tongued +2 Diplomacy; +1 Intrigue; Incompatible with Shy; Cost 1 Bonus point)

[] You are curious about the world hiding in books and scrolls, often sequestering yourself with some preferred book in some corner of the house where only the cats can find you (Gain Scholarly +2 Learning -1 Diplomacy -1 Martial Gain Favored Cat Cost 1 Bonus Point)
... and your favorite subject is:
-[] Traveler's Journals'
-[] Military History
-[] Philosophy
-[] Theology
-[] Economics
-[] Engineering
-[] Write in

Your time at home ends, as all things are wont to do and at your parents behest you leave home at the age of twelve and travel of Nindamos to study....

[] Command, how to lead and supply men in a time of war, the ways of siegecraft and open battle as laid down since the days of Ar-Balkumagân (+1d4 Martial +1d2 Stewardship -1d2 Learning)

[] Navigation and the Captain's arts, the ways of the ships that had made Numanor great (+1d4 Stewardship +1d2 Learning -1d2 Intrigue)

[] Courtly Grace and Wit, that you might one day be a credit to your family in the halls of the Great Lords, perhaps you dream even of the King (+1d4 Intrigue +1d2 Diplomacy -1d2 Martial)

OOC: You rolled literally maximum for learning so Eriol understood what slavery is earlier than most of his peers, hence the vote. Your high leaning is also the reason why you get scholarly so early. If you go for it the subject matter will impact your interests going forward, but it will not grant any stats on its own.

Hmm very interested in seeing what we rolled, but I like it being a mystery. Anyway the learning is nice and I would love to take that scholar interest in travelers tales but I prefer a gregarious and outdoorsy character, and the marital loss is also another sore spot. Arhin will be especially happy about the learning I imagine lol. Anyway the enslavement of our fellow men is a travesty, they might lack our long life and wisdom but its not right to do such, or so I imagine a young Eriol thinking lol.

I like the Learning focus.
We will be an advisor, at least at the start, not a lord.
Being too obviously more skilled in martial and diplomatic matters makes ud look dangerous to our employer.

Being more of an engineer seems harmless.

Until it's too late.

[] Not having any siblings, nor any other children of your station and age you are Shy, almost a recluse, your mother complains (Gain Shy -2 Diplomacy -5 to all social rolls dealing with loud and boisterous activities like feasts and dances)
Strange trait. It's negative, but does not give any bonus points.

Also, @DragonParadox, the link in your signature to this quest is weird. It leads to this topic, but in strange way.

Er... guys I'm not sure if you realize this, but taking kind, captain and nothing else to raise intrigue guarantees 0 intrigue, not saying that is an invalid choice, but there are consequences to going that low in a stat.

Our friends and acquaintances are a honest and direct folk, they will not hurt us, I am sure! :D

Is this already the final part of our chargdn?

I thought we would have the chance to pick up some intrigue later.

That's like 90 percent of why adventurers/mercanaries are hired and garner following. Although tradesman/engineers/learned men do have their fair share of employment/respect and their skills are useful, they rarely inspire confidence and momentum within their peers and potential followers that allows a person to reach above their station. At least not for a long time in the future when engineering/mathematics/science becomes as important as how good you can politick, swing a sword, or command men.

Also yeah that intrigue oof. I don't value potential learning and stewardship at the the sure cost of intrigue/martial/diplomacy. And there's also the rp factor that I just don't like scholar mc's and the rp aspect of learning in general.

I like plan Hornblower despite its zero-intrigue-value. But... maybe something like this?

This maybe keeps us on 1 Intrigue and the same amount of Bonus points. Also, I like the image of Numenorian adviser with glases. :)

Should be fixed now, thanks.
And "Shy" trait works us intended, without giving any bonus points, despite beeing purely negative?

P.S. Approval voting:

Hmm so 3 plans and 1 potential plan of mine apart form my original. I'll do a breakdown of each plan stat wise and give my thoughts
Hornblower
Martial: 2
Diplomacy: 5
Stewardship: 3[4-7]
Intrigue: 1[0]
Learning: 8[9-10]
+1d4 Stewardship +1d2 Learning -1d2 Intrigue
Cat
-1 bonus point
After applying the concrete bonuses and before the rolls. Yeah this is a spec into learning and stewardship, we leave intrigue to die lol. And our marital really gets left in the dust. Our learning is definitely our strong suit with possible our stewardship being 2nd if we roll good enough. We are definitely bookish, and we have a cat so that's nice.

Nerd in Numenor
Martial: 1
Diplomacy: 7
Stewardship: 3[4-7]
Intrigue: 2[0-1]
Learning: 8[9-10]
Cat
-10 to combat rolls without glasses
-1 bonus point
+1d4 Stewardship +1d2 Learning -1d2 Intrigue
After the concrete bonuses and before the rolls. This is really a spec into learning and diplomacy, diplo is most likely to be our 2nd strength in the next stage of char creation, though its at a cost of abyssal martial and intrigue. 50% we have 0 intrigue, gamblers will love this one lol. And the Combat malus is not ideal. I hope Eriol never loses his glasses if we go with this. Nice cat tho

Soon to be
Martial: 3[4-7]
Diplomacy: 8
Stewardship: 3[4-5]
Intrigue: 2
Learning: 6[5-4]
-1 bonus point
+1d4 Martial +1d2 Stewardship -1d2 Learning)
So yeah this is my plan, Its really a spec into diplomacy with a minor downgrade to learning in exchange for some more balanced stat rolls. Really my main push apart from gregarious being included in a winning plan is for navigation to not get taken lol Scholar is meh imo. but I can respect the doors it opens. Stewardship I really don't want to improve that at the cost of intrigue and martial. I would actually be wiling to include scholar in a plan of mine. But if the selling point for voters is navigation focus then yeah... (sad command noises).

Diplomacy: 7
Stewardship: 3[4-5]
Intrigue: 2
Learning: 8[7-6]

So yeah if my original plan included scholar.
