@Mandabar

Thank you for the vote tally!

You know, I thought we were going to go to Fallout for a long while, but it looks like we're going to Shadowrun, boys and girls!

Sorry for the late response, but me and the team only just finished a project that was due to be given to the client tonight. At least my company paid for dinner? :\

Anyways, the next update should be out at some point this week, assuming I don't catch the flu from my girlfriend in the next few days.

Speaking of girlfriend, guess who's going to propose soon? :D

...I'm lucky Bitz doesn't usually browse SV. :V

Any questions for me? I'll see if I can answer once I get home, but if not I'll do so tomorrow.

Wow, I guess early congratulations are in order!

In regards to questions, I guess you are excited to be running the game in SR?

I think an important one is how dangerous is HYDRA in this game?

Yeah fairly certain it was going to be either SR or Fallout from the looks of things. Considering Torr recent comment he was sure we were doing Fallout and the other being that Torr is a big fan of SR.

Odds are that Mass Effect was third considering we got him thinking about it with a few comments.

I iz thuper excite.

Hydra will be one of many antagonists in this game. One of many.

congrats!

and hopefully you didn't jinx yourself :V
Haha!

... Me too. :V

Tho for real, Bitzy already knows it's happening, but doesn't know how or when. She's been epically excited for the last few months. :p

so now that the vote is decided, what world would you have picked for us?
He would have picked Shadowrun.

Oddly enough, I was going to pick MCU. Though honestly I'm excited about all the choices I gave. :)

SR holds a special place in my heart though, so you guys will get a lovingly crafted campaign that I've been wanted to run since mid 2014. Of course, I've grown as a person, a writer, a game design professional, and as a GM since then, so I'd like to think that you guys will highly enjoy it. Maybe almost as much as I'll enjoy writing it. ;)

HINT: You're going to wake up in a lab in Madagascar. :V

No, I'm not joking.

I was surprised it eeked out in the end. I think it helped some of the SR voters changing fallout from a secondary to a more distant choice.

I remember you telling us before you were getting ready to do it. She's been in suspense this whole time? The poor girl. I'm imagining all those super over excited puppies and kittens that keel over from excitement now.
Totally not stalking and googling you on the internet to now find cute couple pictures... no joy so far!

No, I'm not joking.
I have no idea what this means and it scares and excites me... mentally.

While I was disappointed initially in Fallout not being chosen, after seeing the QM's enthusiasm for Shadowrun I don't really mind anymore.

Can anyone explain the significance of waking up in Madagascar? Such as which corporation owns it?

I got a few questions for you if you don't mind me asking.

1. How would have a Warhammer 40k crossover would've gone if you did it? Say, Cap gets discovered by Merica towards the end of the Unification Wars? How would the Emperor react to seeing a living relic from the 2nd millennium? That could have been cool but I assumed you didn't include them on purpose.
2. How would have the bonus hydra/proto-Stark tech affect the tech progression of the various settings (including my first question)? More importantly, how would it have affected Shadowrun?

Well I was more thinking that you'd be close to Wakanda, but yes that is a thing too. Good thing your [REDACTED] isn't an uncivilized pirate!
I figured that as well, but Madagascar has plenty of options in terms of exploring.

It's literally one of those plot points for GM's in which the Devs basically said "Who the fuck knows, your players gotta go and find out!"

Oh and @torrmercury I'm curious how MCU would have gone down with the changes in the timeline. Could you please talk about that? :)

Also, I think this goes without saying, but Shadow Run North America got fucked up. That feel when Vancouver is under the control of an anti-Anglo tribe that left Richmond to rot after being destroyed by an earthquake.... It might not matter in the grand scheme of things, but damn it I live in the general area and it brings home how dramatic the changes to the geopolitical landscape are.

You know what I keep thing about, stark industries as one of the mega corps. It just works so well in my mind. Also I wonder if any MCU character will be meta-humans instead of regular, so excited!

The entire world of Shadowrun got Fucked Up.

But just think of North America like the Imperium of Man from 40k. There are some really, really bad spots...but for the most part you can find plenty of places where things are safe, quiet, productive, and even prosperous.

Maybe, but the world is so anarchic and balkanized it doesn't sound like a world where Hydra won. Plus, I'm sure the introduction of magic and fantasy races threw as much a screw in their plans as it did for everyone else. It's a world where private law enforcement/security has become a necessity like it is in the IRL developing world.
You know, when you say it like that, it almost feels like they had been winning, when a third party got annoyed and flipped the table on them.

They'd adapt and improvise as they always do, but still . . .

Tell me about it. I'm pretty sure my workplace is right in the middle of the Shattergraves, during Shadowrun times. Its a bit bizarre.

Also, Madagascar? Interesting, we're going well off the known maps.

Also, anybody know where Wakanda is? Apparently, Marvel has given out 3 different locations, but looking at the Shadowrun map of Africa:

It looks like it should be either in the Congo Tribal Lands north of the DMZ, within said DMZ, or to the southeast of there.

Of course, that is presuming that MCU and our actions haven't massively butterflied all of this anyway.

WOHOOO, SHADOWRUN, HERE WE COME!!! Though damn, that was a very close vote.

Go get her, tiger!
Oh shit, we are in magic pirate land.
Tortuga.

No one. No goverment or megacorp has a claim on Madagascar. It is mostly filled with pirates and people with no other place to go.

In MCU, Wakanda lies in the Northwestern part of Kenya, sharing border with Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan.

So even in SR it would still be there, in Northwestern Kenya.

Well we're going to reunify the US, so let's take a look at what we're up against on the homefront. Note that this won't cover corporate interests, extraterritoriality is a whole other kettle of fish that I don't know can ever be dislodged as long as the Megas exist.

First, a look at the America of the future. Spoilered for size.

As you can see, the place is pretty well divvied up and recombined. The closest country to the good ol' US of A is the UCAS, the United Canadian American States. Back when the NAN formed, both the US and Canada were in bad shape, with massive territory losses and economic downturn. They came together for mutual benefit, cut down on the red tape between them and bolster what assets they had left. The country holds the entire Great Lakes area and a good chunk of the east cost, and is the first Metahuman nation to elect a dragon as president. This also makes it the first nation to issue a SIN to a dragon.

Of note is Seattle. The city and some out lying areas belong to the UCAS, but are located within the Salish-Shidhe Council. It's one of the most active areas for Runners, and even makes a tidy sum off that reputation.

Next are the Native American Nations, or NAN as they're generally known. Technically each state maintains it's own sovereignty, but the with overall broadly similar laws and the Tribal Council in Denver, most just group them together as such. The story of how they formed is long and grand, but at the end of the day the Natives of the Americas got sick of the rest of the world walking all over them. With the return of magic, a lot of guerrilla warfare and The Great Ghost Dance, they were able to kick the US and Canada out of the plain states and most of the north, then force them to sign the Treaty of Denver. The treaty ceded those areas to the Natives while recognizing their sovereignty as nations.

Worth noting is that the lower map is correct. The Ute Nation buckled in 2067 and was absorbed into the Pueblo Corporate Council. They have contested territory with Aztlan.

Next is the CAS, the Confederation of American States. As you can see, they're comprised of most of the southern states that fought in the Civil War, and they never got over losing. Back when the UCAS was forming, they saw themselves being sidelined in trade deals that favored the north, and decided to try again. They broke away with the Treaty of Richmond, sighed by the CAS and UCAS, and haven't done very well ever since. It is notable for being one of the few nations with any kind of resistance to corporate extraterritoriality, in the form of the ERLA (Extraterritorial Registry and Liaison Agency). They're supposed to make sure the corps are following the terms of there lease on CAS land, but it needs to give such a long notice before it can conduct any inspections that most think it's broken.

Then comes Aztlan, who are a bunch of assholes run by the AAA corporation Aztechnology, which is even worse than it sounds. They took a bite out of the southern CAS and PCC at some point and were at war with Yucatan for a while. Everything wrong with them would need it's own tread, so I won't be going into it. Suffice to say, they make HYRDA look good.

Now for the California Free State, which has had the shit kicked out it ever since it was made a sovereign nation. It's another long story, but the gist of it is: Kicked out of the UCAS, invade by Japan, hit by the Ring of Fire, Japan pulled out save for one evil bastard and his forces, Ares Macrotechnology kicked out the psycho after he threatened their interests, and a big chunk of it is currently underwater after another few earthquake dropped it below sea level. Not a great place to live.

Tir Tairngire. Formally an elvish sub tribe of Salish-Shidhe. They moved into the Mount Rainier area and no one really cared. Then they followed Tir na nog's example in 2035 and declared themselves their own nation, which was met with troop deployment. Amazingly the elves won, but then they did have a Great Dragon on their side. They run on a mostly feudal system, with the elf Logh Surehand at the head of a council of leaders, which includes the aforementioned dragon.

Note the area between Free Cal and Tir. That's the Contested Zone, where both nations claim sovereignty. I don't know how the fighting is, but it can't be too bad. Cali is always in rough shape at the best of times, and Tir can't make a big push without leaving themselves weak to the rest of the NAN, who are still sore they left the Tribal Council. Great place to run weapons tests for the less then savory types though.

Finally we have the Caribbean League. They have a small piece of south Florida, which was going to join the CAS but later deiced to go with the CL. It's not a great place, with some of the leaders either being retired or active pirate lords. Bermuda and Barbados are still British overseas territories, and otherwise isn't much notable.

This is the very basic problem we're facing in recreating the Union, even before we get into the opposition of corporate and overseas interests that would prefer the Union never came back. Over 80 years of fighting, oppression, balkanizing, terror, independence and nationalism. I'm not even getting into the shit with New York, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles, plus all the feral city's, barrens and Z-zones. This will be no small task, with lot's of difficult choices and maybe disgusting acts down the line. This will be hard. Very, very hard.

But nothing worth doing was ever easy, and this is a worthy task if I ever saw one. Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work.
