Update today probably. I don't have much to do this weekend so I'll be on IRC and writing lots, if anyone wants to join me. :D

9. Brave New World (Arc 1 Begin)
Brave New World

...

Peggy's face lights up as she approaches the altar. The pearls form a lovely ring around her neck and the veil obscures her ever so slightly. Your heart races as you see her face. And it hits you. It's your wedding day.

Your palms are sweaty, but the grin on your face belies your true emotions. You feel amazing wearing this suit, so unlike anything you could fit in only a year or so ago. The way her eyes gleam as she looks at you is something that you will never forget.

After she arrives, the priest begins to speak.

"Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of God to witness and bless the joining together of this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony..."

A brilliant orange leaf falls and lands perfectly on the bouquet, bringing mirth to the surface in both of you. Her eyes crinkle in delight, and you feel your cheeks starting to hurt from your smile, but you can't stop. The pond is littered with scattered colors, the orange, yellow, red, and violet of the trees providing a vibrant contrast to the blue sky, all of this framing your beautiful bride in white.

"The union of husband and wife is intended by God for their mutual joy; for the help and comfort given to each other in prosperity and adversity. Therefore, marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God."

You take a deep breathe to try and calm down since you're practically vibrating in place. You can see Peggy trying to do the same. You look up to the sky behind the priest and there is not a cloud in sight. A perfect moment for your perfect day.

"I charge you both, here in the presence of God and the witnesses of this company, that if either of you know any reason why you may not be married lawfully and in accordance with God's Word, do now confess it."

A beat, and no one speaks, for now is the appointed time. Your heart beats rapidly and your breaths are shallow.

"Margaret, will you have this man to be your husband; to live together with him in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful unto him as long as you both shall live?"

...The Darkness wraps a tendril around her veil and your stomach drops. Her smile is unchanged.

"I will."

You are breathing faster now. The priest sounds further away.

"Steven, will you have this woman to be your wife; to live together with her in the covenant of marriage? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, be faithful unto her as long as you both shall live?"

You are shaking now. The world seems as if it is frozen, even as the Darkness crawls upon all the surfaces that you can see. It is enveloping her now.

Your voice is shaky as you manage to get out, "I will."

The priest's voice is now echoing around you.

"Will all of you witnessing these promises do all in your power to uphold these two persons in their marriage?"

The voices of the congregation is distant. Almost a whisper.

"We will."

You swallow thickly.

"In the name of God, I, Steven, take you, Margaret, to be my wife..."

You remember to breathe.

"...To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health..."

Your eyes sting, so you close them.

"...To love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow."

There is moisture on your cheek, and you know that should you wipe it away the entire scene will break apart. Her voice is still clear as day, and you find yourself thankful for it.

"In the name of God, I, Margaret, take you, Steven, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow."

Time rolls by without your input, your body moves on its own through the joining and the rings. You force your eyes open to watch what may be the last glimpse of your life falling away.

"Now that Margaret and Steven have given themselves to each other by solemn vows, with the joining of hands and the giving and receiving of rings, I pronounce that they are husband and wife, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Those whom God has joined together, let no one tear asunder."

The Darkness is everywhere now, coating the pond, the congregation, the dock, the priest...

"Margaret and Steven, having witnessed your vows of love to one another, it is my joy to present you to all gathered here as husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Their faces are shrouded now. The familiar men and women that sit in the congregation no longer register in your mind. Beloved friends became hollow puppets, your mind breaking down the illusion.

You walk forward and take Peggy's cold hands into your own. She does not move. Does not react. You pause and lift her veil, transforming her smiling face into that of an old woman.

The illusion shatters in an instant, and all that's left is the darkness and Peggy.

Her voice is so different now, but you know this to be her.

"Steve... I'm so glad that I got to see you one last time. Even if we weren't able to finish our wedding."

You are reeling.

What-

"Please, my love. Give me one last kiss before I go."

And just like that, she becomes young again, wearing her wedding dress and smiling.

The scene is cracked and fractured, but you can see that Peggy is trying her hardest to hold it together for you.

And so you step forward once again, and take her warm hands in your own. Her eyes shine with unshed tears and you smile softly, bittersweetly, at her. Two drops of moisture fall down her cheeks.

You let go of her hands to lift her veil, transforming her smiling face into that of an older Peggy. She is still so beautiful.

"I'm so sorry I missed your life."

"Don't apologize, Steve. I'm just glad that I got to share this last moment with you."

"Last? But... Aren't we both-"

"No. You still have a role left to play, but my time is up. I love you so much."

"I love you too..."

You lean in to kiss her, and the world holds its breath.

Your lips meet hers as your arms wrap around her waist, and the congregation cheers-

You cough and water splashes out onto the floor from your lungs. You taste salt and ocean upon your tongue while cold metal lies below your hands and knees.

Manacles are wrapped around your wrists and ankles, its chains connected to something beneath the rusting floor. Water drips onto your head and your left side burns where Schmidt embedded your shield. Speaking of which, you look up to try and find it-

And find a large fist that smashes into your face. You fall to the floor with a groan.

A deep voice booms into the room, "Steve Rogers. You know, when the boss said that she found you I didn't actually believe her. But here you are, lying at my feet."

A massive hand grabs you by the hair- where did your helmet go anyway?- and painfully drags you up, face to face with the strangest looking man you've seen in your life. He has four mismatched tusks jutting out of his lower jaw and two massive horns growing out of his forehead bending backwards, marring his otherwise handsome face, his sharp green eyes stare into yours.

"So. You can call me Naz. I'll be your warden from today forth. And you, are going to be my boss' lab rat until she's done with her experiments, doesn't need you anymore, or you die. I'll feed you twice a day and you can talk to me if you want. But if you try to escape or anything stupid like that, I'll make your life very, very miserable."

At that, he turns your head to the side and you see a variety of wicked tools and you know immediately what he means.

"But, if you cooperate and everything goes well, I'll make sure that you're at least comfortable and have something to do. Any questions before I let you sleep? The first experiment isn't for another 2 days or so."

Well, you had a LOT of questions, but obviously you're not going to ask them all right now. What do you ask, if anything?
[] Write-in?

Alright, let's get this show on the road!

[X] Where exactly am I?
[X] What is the exact date? I need to know how long I've been knocked out for.
[X] What are you exactly?
[X] What the hell happened to my gear? I had a shield with me...

[X] Try to figure out where your chains are connected to and if you can break it or get out of them.

Let's start with the most pressing questions for Steve and try t start figuring how to escape. As we are now, we cannot beat Naz.

I'm not sure that asking for supplies will help, since they've not already patched us up. Probably hope that the wound keeps weak and easier to contain.

Are they honestly trying to keep Captain "I was strong enough to keep down a helicopter with my bare hands" America down with nothing but some god damn chain's.

Yay, an update!
I wonder what it wil-

Right, okay.
We are fixing the world.
There is no argument. No debate.
It's happening. Nothing can stop us.
This world will be a Better Place.

For Peggy.

Well, you had a LOT of questions, but obviously you're not going to ask them all right now. What do you ask, if anything?
[] "Where am I? Who are you people?"

[] Gather as much information about your surroundings once you're not being actively held by your warden.

Our best chance of escape will come with information. We need to take stock of everything right now.

Manacles are wrapped around your wrists and ankles
[Joke vote]Write-in:
-[Q]confuse them.
--[Q]"Steve Rogers? Who's that? They sound frightfully boring. Not like me, for I am Buttons O'Stickyglue, Knight of the Windmill Crusade and Keeper of the Exclamation Mark, Smeller of the Sun..." In an incoherent mix of all the cheesiest and most inaccurate accents you can muster
-[Q]Then try to attack Naz
--[Q]See if you can't get these manacles off your arms. Then his face, whatever you're lying on, at the highest velocity your arm muscles can induce. (OOC: Like so)
-[Q]"...And smasher of infinite skulls!"
[Q]If it doesn't kill him, declare that you were joking

[x]Talk to Naz. You need to find out more.
-[x]Who he works for. What the boss wants. Where you are. Just what happened for you to be a prisoner, and still alive. If the war's over. Information's key, and if you can get Naz to let something else slip so much the better.
