[X] Remember.

That was a hell of an update. Hell of an update. Still kind of processing it.

Nemo throwing away both her and Yumichika's sword to fight barehanded was an amazing scene, especially with how it led into that brutal slugfest. It was a great contrast to the usual elegance and, uh, "put-togetherness" of both Nemo and Yumichika.

This.
What Chernobyl became, was a huge dirty bomb.
Imagine a high pressure cooker exploding, basically.

Most of the fuel rods just disintegrated into dust and contaminated surroundings, fine dust going high enough to be part of clouds, and coming down with rains hundreds of kilometers away from Chernobyl.

What remains in the sarcophagus is a whole lot of radioactive dust and fuel rod fragments, but to get enough of them together in one place and press them tightly enough to get anything approaching critical mass is basically impossible, let alone being wrong isotopes for an atomic bomb.

The most that can happen is the repeatition of the original incident, with the fighting getting enough dust high into the atmosphere to get another radioactive dust cloud going around.
So basically unless someone grossly irresponsible had some kind of gravitational crush ceroball thing its not happening, and if they DID, the gravitational crush ceroball, if anything, would improve matters?

Can't Nemos Cero also summon the memory of the battlefield? Since Yumichika is in a pretty undramatic place mentally we might instead get a spooky shade reenactment of the original incident. That might at least generate enough magic ghost radiation to trip up the sensors pointed at the place even if it won't actually explode.

Certainly a thing but by my count Nemo hasn't gotten to fire that many Ceroes, and she might have been more focused on power-blasts instead of mist trickery to boot.
Like the big problem is Yumichika controls the distance more often then not in this fight, Nemo can't really count on getting the space she needs to prep a Cero, and even when she does get one half-cooked Yumichika demonstrated that horn-pull trick to screw up her aim, so it's like she's got to get like 3-4 steps of advantage and Yumi can take a step away simply by being faster, Nemo loses another step if she needs to do a dis-engage because Yumichika closed to melee yet again, another step is lost to Cero Prepping, and then after that, MAYBE Nemo gets to shoot Yumichika with a Cero...Assuming he doesn't see it coming and dodge/horn pull to defuse the thing.

One thing this fight really does showcase is that Featherbrow earned his rank. Nemo outclasses him in raw power- he flat out admits that himself- but when it comes to skill? He stands heads and shoulders above her.

Pretty much.
to get an atomic explosion from the things lying around in the sarcophagus...

Basically you would need an extremely strong gravitational anomaly, that would have to only selectively affect certain isotopes, and then would had to be strong enough to get chain reaction going, while not being strong enough to become a singularity or to collapse the captured mass into something like neutronium.

Not completely impossible with enough magical bullshit, but would require a spell tailor made for it at the very least, especially because the isotopes lying around are not ones suitable for the swift chain reaction necessary for atomic bombs, so you would have to regulate the strength of the gravitic field during the process, to properly shape the chain reaction.

A "generic" controlled singularity would actually just clean the insides of the sarcophagus neatly.

Well, that's what you get when a character has adept in combat arts. It does exactly what it says - 'might survive an assault from a superior opponent'. I don't think Feathers has more than a veteran in combat arts, so he's not that higher than us.

I liked the demonstration of the relative difference in durability between Shinigami and Arrancar.
Like, Nemo basically exchanges Hierro for HSR but still! She takes hit after hit and keeps on going, Yumichika showed his skill and agility but got maimed by just a couple of solid blows.

The number of people who vote to remember will determine how much she remembers.

Less than ten people? Failure. Nemo Degenerates.

10-20 people. Sucess.

20-40 people. Nemo remembers her human name.

40-100 people. Nemo breaks through the effects of Kyoka Sugietsu over her memories and realises that every time she has seen him Aizen has been secretly naked. #NoPantsLife

100+ people. Nemo remembers a really nice waffle recipe her mother taught her.
I am now imagining the final confrontation:

Nemo, Cirucci, Ren, Spiderfriend and every single friend she ever made, stand in front of Aizen's throne room.
Oh, and Ichigo was still fighting his new-and-improved hollow self.

"So you followed me, even though I threathened to self-destruct Hōgyoku, alongside all of Hueco Mundo? Are you insane?" Spoke Aizen, amusement long gone from his voice.

That is true. Normally not a single sane person would risk triggering such a trap. It would be mutually assured destruction.
But you saw right through him. There was no trick up his sleeve. That's because he has no sleeves.

"Surely, you can't be serious." Said Aizen, his abs flexing in disbelief.

Oh, I am serious. And don't call me Shirley. My real name is... Masaki!

"Mom?!" Ichigo and his hollow counterpart shouted in perfect unison.

That's right, son(s). Now stop this toomfoolery. We have a smug douche to beat up.

"... Okay, Mom." And so they both immediately fused, becoming Getsuga, and yes that's totally how it happens in Omicron's canon.

"How did you realize it was me, back then?" His smile fell flat from his face, leaving a sore scowl.

A simple deduction.
That random Shinigami's kido had a weird taste to it. You remembered that original Aizen ate far too many waffles your remembrance discovered.
And even Kyoka Suigetsu isn't capable of disguising the taste of your mother's cooking.

Any last words, oh king of Hueco Mundo?

"They were delicious." A content smirk entered his face, as he vanished into nothingness.

Even in defeat, he knew how to how to spoil your victory.
You know you used far too much vanilla in them.

Yes, I know this doesn't make any sense.
I just wanted to write a joke, and couldn't be bothered to make a storyline that actually fits.

go for it. I'm not really sure how this would show up in the manga, since no one involved is a main character. at most this would be a side story or something but I'm really not sure how this would fit into the AU's plot.
The talk with Ichigo probably would, actually, because it does genuinely fit into the PoV of his protagonist journey as a parallel for what he's doing with his inner Hollow - especially since Nemo is in many ways one of his foils for this arc.

just about the one line for the au reaction I have in my head is shock that kubo is using backgrounds! I'm fine with someone else doing the au reaction to this so long as that detail is included.

I presume that this would follow on from Ikkaku's funeral, Yumichika would be a temporary view point character to show what's going on in Seireitei in the aftermath of the park battle, Yumichika recovers, visits the other injured and expands as a character.

This joins up with Ichigo's meeting with Nemo and follows from there.

This is a more thoughtful and reflective Bleach so multiple viewpoints would make sense.

Then a letter arrives for Yumichika and the reader is left in the dark about what it's about until he arrives to the duel.

Hmm. Would they go for a full flashback about their previous encounter, or just let it be spelled out through Nemo's dialogue?
Probably would of had a moment of introspection on Yumichika's part early on in the entire thing, maybe even before Ikkaku's funeral where he reflected on how he behaved in the past as he built himself up to publicly revealing his true Shikai. Then it wouldn't be mentioned for the vast majority of the arc until this duel.

AUManga still follows the main cast, so they don't get to see the fight. At most they see mentions of it when Nemo brings it up to Ichigo.
Nah this would have been shown along with a chapter or two of build up. This is clearly similar to the Soul Society arc where the shinigami had their own mini-arcs that were set off by the cast invading and then Aizen faking his own death.

Inserted tally

I dunno guys, it's awfully close. Tie breakers anyone?

So, let me suggest something. This is a bit of a joke, but really, I am serious...

[x] Leave it behind.

Let's be honest. A dramatic flashback here, revealing Nemo's past - that'd be some cool shit, no doubt. No doubt Omi would deliver. But here's the thing. You know what would be even more cool? If we were to actually defy the convention. Show that the past, the elaborate back-story, all those things alluded to, all those things buried - they are better when they are unmentioned, entombed and irrelevant. Nemo overcoming her present not by reclaiming some storied past, but just looking forward and shedding her history like she sheds her mask would be an amazing moment of genre-busting. The past is dead, there is no need for this past to be ever dredged up. It is like what Yumichika says about Unohana - the Nemo that was still exists, somewhere in the back of her head, but why invite her in? Why reclaim something that had been purposefully left behind.

The past has no power over Nemo, not if she chooses to throw it off. There is no need to bow to the story, no need to know - better to leap into the unknown future while certain that what is dead should remain so. That if there is a way from the Hollow condition it is not by attempting to make peace with what can never be really set right - because, well, it's in the past - but by moving past it. Choosing not even to forget, but to look forward, not backward. Think about it? How many stories do you know where the backstory is this key to understanding, key to overcoming? As if corpses dragged out from their tombs could speak, as if the only thing that mattered was knowing. Try something else, once, maybe twice. Acknowledge that no matter how important the past was, it is not irrelevant. It is gone. It is a memory that lives only so much as the need to give it strength.

Defy the convention, defy the genre. Say after the poet: Knowledge may have its purposes, but guessing is always more fun than knowing. Allow Nemo to win the battle for her soul by shedding this filthy cloak of history, by freeing herself from the weight of the past, by leaping into the future unburdened and light. In the tomb of Man's hubris, the history is stripped away as the nature reclaims what had once been considered eternal and immutable. There is no need to look back. Leave it to rot, leave the graves untended. Whatever broke Nemo - whatever hurt her, whatever made her who she were - is a shadow and should be acknowledged. The power drawn from this reclamation would be just feeding a cycle where only the return to something former can give forward impetus. Again, I say with almost full seriousness: defy it. Defy necessity. Defy the imposition of the past. Allow the story to remain untold. Draw power from knowing that we will never know and it is better that way.

Try something new.
