On second thought...

[X]Aaroniero Arruruerie, the cannibal Gillian, who wants you to hunt down a Hollow of particular interest to him.

Revlid's argument has convinced me.

Aaroniero always interested me. The dude never really got a fair shake, what with his "limitless potential" boiling down to "one sword-breaking power, one communication power, and eight million tentacles", and his gimmick of convincing Rukia he was actually Kaien was a reasonably smart move, and certainly more manipulative than anything we saw out of the other Espada. Plus his design was neat.

On an IC level, him having no Fraccion means we're far more likely to be able to advance under him. Barragan, simply put, will not notice us. The guy has a raft of powerful followers, and the last time he had any excess he seriously considered splitting them in two and having them kill each other for his amusement. Syazel is a special kind of monster, and we'd do best to avoid him for as long as possible. Aaroniero is dangerous, yes, but so are all arrancar. Tying our fate to that of a smart, ambitious coward with no other subordinates to rely on seems like an obvious choice, to me.

That, and his mission obviously involves finding a Hollow with a power he wants to absorb for himself. "Hollow bounty hunter" is a neat little job description that should get us out and about a lot - you know, away from all the far-more-powerful psychopaths littering Las Noches.
... Bah.

I like the argument from an out-of-character perspective, but I am curious as to what you think this implies in-character for her motivations, fears etc.

...I would like the record to reflect that I think this is a terrible idea.

I would also like the record to reflect that I now want to see the characterization of somebody that would knowingly choose this guy over somebody more stable.

He seems more interesting to work under, if also more dangerous.

Anyone have a vote tally? I'm thinking through my options and want to see how much my vote will change, and the mood of the thread.

I think we would probably not ever be able to take on kenpachi because of his sheer durability and bloodlust, hit and run tactics would not work well on him. If we ever fight him we need to hit hard for a chance at victory.

Eh, hit and run actually is what you'd want to do to deal with Kenpachi. The reason everyone who fought him died was because they decided to fight on his terms like idiots. Kiting him with range attacks and wearing him down will work eventually as long as you have the power to harm him to begin with.

Certainly the moth isn't winning right now because we're weak as all hell and that ressurecion doesn't help the power issue, but with captain level energy blasts and maxed out sonido? We can make Kenpachi absolutely miserable in Hueco Mundo.

For the vote:

The resident tentacle monster has explicitly been stated to have eaten his last Fraccion and we have a unique trickster power that would be a massive force multiplier in the hands of someone whose thing is having all the power AND avoiding sunlight anyway. Spending any time around him is asking to get eaten.

Syazel is Arrancar Mayuri and that right there is all the reason in the world to stay far, far away from him.

Barragan's an ass too, but odds are good that we'd be utterly beneath his notice which is a hell of an improvement over potential snack and potential And I Must Scream victim.

So what we have to deal here in pokemon terms:

Gonna catch them all kind of guy.

Will try to mewtwo you, hope I don't get another Ditto.

My team to face the elite four is ready, will get a pokemon with the Pickup ability to fetch me some items and then discard it.

I think uncle Barry is a better shot for us.

Who doesn't love that crazy fishbowl wearing cannibal? But honestly he's our best chance for advancement, and given how much he hates the light there should be plenty of shadows around if tries to eat us.

My perspective on the Barragan option. That there is a lost item for us to go find in Hueco Mundo (remember, our furniture is stray rocks and we had to go to the human world to get curtains) means that there's worthwhile items to find. I'd quite like to see what sort of treasures might be acquired and from where, if only to find some of the fun toys that the opposition has people like Urahara for (Granz being moreso than Mayuri someone who solely focuses on biotech and not external gear).

Treasure Hunting and Interior Decorating, i see no way this option doesn't lead to fun :3

On the grounds that he is merely a megalomaniac, not a particulary painful madman like Apporo or weird tentacle thing like Aaroniero. Getting killed by them would hurt if it came to it.
