North Winds Fall (Xianxia - Survive the Protagonist)

...

Okay, what the fuck just happened?

First, Ho Junko goes completely insane, and instead of keeping her cover she rushes away, compromising herself. She's also a revolutionary, apparently? Oh, and a thief. Second, Big Prince's security fails horribly and at suspiciously convenient moment, allowing Autumn to escape her sell and allowing a child to sneak through the palace with a combat sword. Third, for some reason Autumn couldn't sit still and escaped her sell to save a girl (who wasn't in any danger) and to fight in the fight club; all while making herself a target for the Big Prince, who now has valid reasons to suspect her in many bad things.

...

Is this how cutivation stories usually go? I've only ever read FoD-verse, it's so weird to see things happen with no logic or reason.

P.S. This is not a criticism of the story itself @azatol, I'm perfectly aware of the tropes we're playing with here. I'm just... baffled that there are so many cultivation novels with, apprently, this level of bullshit. And which, apparently, do not use it as a satiric element.

I hope to give plenty of interludes afterwards to give some clues into what the protagonist and other characters have been doing & seeing.

Maybe it's over the top. I'm a first time quest writer, so forgive me if it doesn't make a lot of sense sometimes. Definitely a response to over the top Xianxia stories, and also an attempt to explain some of the craziness in-universe.

Autumn's cultivation recovery, et. cetera will defintely be more like the crazy stories than Forge of Destiny, in terms of time required.

Ahh

I see.

Everything's pivoting from 'There are issues but things are genuinely functional' into "Xianxia Hellscape" in reaction to the Protagonist mucking around, hence why our control has just slipped and all of a sudden everyone seems to have gone spontaneously mad. Stuff like the protagonist's apparent maid suddenly admitting "Yeah I'm a thief and a rebel and fuck you" and literal children somehow getting out and about with sharp objects in the middle of a literal security lockdown. The Heavens are moving their pawns into place to set the stage, and our own freedom to choose has atrophied in the face of it.

Everyone is literally being made to walk their steps in the grand drama to build an unrivaled hero. The Hero has arrived--and so naturally, all of the underlying problems immediately come to a head for him to waltz in and achieve his own agenda without having to spend actual time getting a feel for the place, leaving ruin in his wake save for the people who were nice to him here and there (Maybe).

TLDR "The Protagonist doesn't have time to interact with the setting, so the setting suddenly goes entirely black and white as everyone shifts into their designated roles so that everything can catch fire in time for them to take whatever it is they need from this place. While skipping all of the 'Boring' stuff, like nuance in the setting beyond what can be explained in a thousand words, and people with thoughts and motivations outside of 'BAD GUY' and 'SIMPERING VICTIM' "

Hah, how far off the nose is my crazy theory anyway? Like, by all indications, Autumn is one of the least guilty of any infractions here (Mostly because she was played pretty well to not actively be a complete bitch), but you're kind of implying that the Hammer of Judgement is falling on everyone without exception. Not the least being that her brain cells seem to be spontaneously shutting off with the advent of THE INCIDENT

This whole thing is a hilarious example of how things are perceived. Half the fun of writing this is seeing how people react and think of it.

it'll be fun to go through it once Autumn's perspective reaches the hammer and then adding in the 'heroes'.

The Hammer is powerful, but not necessarily good by our standards. But that's true in a lot of the cliched Xianxia. The votes have made her more sympathetic, but I've also written her more sympathetic

Damn things are really getting interesting - nothing seems to make sense, at least from the way Autumn has described things. You'd think she'd be a little more concerned about what might happen to her than the club right now, but I guess she's not exactly calm at the moment...and of course protagonist magic :p

I'm already at 5000 words for the big showdown & face slap, and there's still a fair bit to go, just from Autumn's perspective.

Hopefully by the weekend I can finish this part and post it.

Judgment 1. Lin Hai's Arena
Content Warning: This whole Judgment Arena group of chapters is a bit bloody, and out of tone with the earlier chapters in terms of level of graphic violence.

Autumn stopped at her front door, confused. Wasn't this all crazy? Forget the Club tournament. She needed to stay home with Wei.

She turned towards her sister, and in the same instant felt an intense shockwave wash over her. It was almost like the feeling when Second brother used a particularly strong card, but that had been standing a foot away from him, and she had no idea where this Card effect was coming from.

It doesn't matter. They have to get to the Club tournament. "Come on Wei!"

She held the girl's hand and they walked outdoors along the path.

The Family Guards were now gathered together in a group, and they were all headed away from the Family estate, straight north.

"Are you going to the Club tournament?" she asked one of them as she headed towards the Dojo.

One of the guards turned to her, "Enemies of the Emperor now believe they have the Heaven's Judgment. We must face our foes, strength upon strength, might of the Orange blade unyielding! We are hurrying to the Arena."

The Arena, of course! Wait what? Autumn decided the only use for the training blade, would be in case Wei needed to defend herself. So she went to get it, anyway.

.She handed the sheath to her sister, "Use this, only against our Enemies."

There were no carriages to take to downtown, no servants to walk with her, so instead she rushed after the guards to follow them. Wei was out of breath when they caught them.

North of the Family estate was a buffer zone of not much at all, just a road through empty fields full of tall grass. It wasn't until they reached the southernmost edge of what Autumn assumed was Lowtown that the group of guards merged with a wave of other people.

She looked around, pondering who was an enemy of the Emperor.

She could hear a tremendous thunderclap, and felt another wave of tingly weird pressure wash through her. Though she wanted to rush to see the early fights, she could only follow after the crowd at its own pace.

It was crucial to not arrive at the Heaven's Judgment Arena too early, and be bogged down fighting a thousand tiny foes of the Emperor. She would stand together at the last moment with the Emperor and defeat all who came before her.

Between Lowtown and Hightown were a few streets with only the seediest of shops. She couldn't move forward even a step though, as the crowd was packed even this far back.

She shook her head, it would take a thousand years for this many to fight. They were pathetic, onlookers, not even willing to take a side one way or another.

She pulled out the Dao blade from her sheath and the crowd parted from her. It was two blocks between the edge of the crowd, and the Heavenly arena that had appeared. It made the Club's tournament room look like dust.

The arena was built right out in the middle of Jade street. Tall wooden posts marked the edges of the arena, and there were three ropes, one on top of another, which stopped any fighters from getting out of the arena. Blue mats covered the arena, and the arena itself was almost half a block long, but only covering the width of the roadway.

Children were fighting with whatever weapons they had, although mostly sticks and fists, in the middle of the arena.

"Xue Thu!" shouted a thundering voice, as she reached the outside edge of the arena.

It was Lin Tsu. He was standing on the other side of the arena, next to the stranger she had fought before. She recognized the other one standing beside him also, it was the new club member, Bull had called Blue.

"What else shall I try, Xue Thu?" he said, mockingly. She couldn't see what he was doing.

"Cursed of the Heavens!" he shouted, laughing.

The pressure wave struck her head on, and she wanted to vomit. "I don't feel so good," Wei said to her. Autumn shook her head. What was she doing here? Wei needs her to stay safe.

Wei herself couldn't resist the weird attack, and she threw up. No one else around them seemed affected.

"We'll fight through the crowds, and get you home," Autumn said.

Wei agreed, looking pale and horrible.

"Compelled to Fight!" Lin Hai shouted.

In the next moment, Autumn looked eagerly towards the Arena, as Xue Wei crawled through the ropes. Other kids did too.

"Come on Xue Wei, fight for the Emperor's honor!" she cheered.

There were dozens of kids in the arena, and they lined up in two rows facing one another. Xue Wei was facing a big kid, likely stronger, but he didn't even have dulled sword like Wei's.

Autumn looked over at Lin Hai, and gritted her teeth. She started fighting through the crowds to get over to him, and pummel him. He had the Cards to curse the Emperor's family. He must be stopped.

She kept glancing at Wei, who nervously fought that big kid, who rushed at her.

"Neutrality of the Spectators!"

"You can't touch me, Xue Thu! The Heavens Protect their own instrument."

"Are you behind all of this? Who is standing next to you?" she shouted, about halfway around the outside of the ring towards Lin Hai.

Looking back, she was shocked to find Xue Wei running to interfere in another fight in the ring, as the big kid was down. She watched as Wei's first foe stumbled out of the arena.

Lin Hai didn't seem to try to stop Wei from sweeping through other fights. Was he unable to do anything except run this hateful competition?

"You are a fool Xue Thu, and you will no longer have a family to hide behind after tonight. The Heavens are in charge now! The Emperor has thwarted their will for too long, and I am not even the first assistant of Heaven. These are fellow assistants, Rieff Chan and Hejl Yaeko.

"Heaven's First will come, and she will be your end, Xue Thu. If you walk away, it will only be in shame and fear!"

Xue Wei, two other girls and two boys were left standing on the Emperor's side.

"Compelled to fight!" Lin Hai shouted, and more came onto the stage.

"How in the world does a gardener constantly use Cards?" Autumn pondered. His cultivation had been a joke before, only sufficient to allow him to grow pretty flowers and tasty vegetables.

"It's Heaven's Power! You could use cards too, if your brothers hadn't stolen every scrap of power themselves."

As she approached Lin Hai, she saw that he didn't have a Card box, but an entire book filled with cards, and there were dozens he had already used laid out on the ground in front of him.

She slashed her sword at him and found that the strike had lost it's speed completely.

"Violation!" Lin Hai shouted, throwing down another card.

Autumn was thrown backward, into the crowd, who parted to let her fall with a solid thud.

"Wait your turn," said one of the people in the crowd.
She stood up to see Xue Wei was still standing, with a few other girls.

"Enough of this Child's Stuff! Let's give the Club what they want."

I will be posting these small Xianxia sized chapters of the Heaven's Judgment Arena fights, one or two posts a day. At the end will be next vote.

Ah, so he was mind controlling us from the start pretty much. And half the town as well, apparently.

So, infinite mind control and reality control cards that require no energy and can be used freely to mind control an entire cultivator city.

I mean, to an extend, this is kind of expected? Most Xianxia stories tend to have the 'Victims' of the face-slapping being one dimensional creatures that always begin their vile plan right in time for the protagonist to get drawn in and benefit from it all. This is just being more real about it.

This is just being more real about it.

What's more funny, he saw what he wanted to see and then mind controlled everyone into being what he thought them to be. Basically creating villains he imagined for him to defeat. That's not what I expected from the premise of the story but I'm weirdly ok with it now.

Wow this got a lot more horror movie than I expected. I hope the little sister isn't forced to fight to her death

So we are the good protagonist if we want to which we do since we found the main baddy Of this quest so if we do meet the protagonist let's go to his side as his or hers friend

Judgment 2: 3 v 3
Wei ducked out of the arena near Autumn.

"I did well, didn't I sisy?" she asked.

"I wish you didn't have to fight, but you defended the Emperor well, Wei."

"Our Teams for this Club tournament are conveniently divided into Cursed teams and Heaven's teams, the Heaven's Arena starts with the Club's own 3 on 3 tournament. Ugly, Serene, Bull, come on up! Stench, Reaper, Tooth, come on up! (not Ladyreaper yet, I do love that name though, Xue Thu)."

"What, Tooth is a traitor?" Autumn shouted, "I liked you Tooth!"

The Club's assistant leader turned to her, showing his one good tooth. "Bull, I'm coming for you," he said, turning back towards the Club's leader Bull.

The original Club member with the name reaper was deadly, efficient, but only adequate on defense. Ugly was a lump of coal, but he would be able to stomp on Stench, who was even worse.

She felt compelled to cheer on even Ugly. Serene was one of the ladies in the group, not a very good fighter, but good at dodging and not a complete idiot.

It seemed Reaper and Tooth had already planned this, they both targeted Bull, as the reaper's longsword struck from the right, and Tooth's maul from the left.

Bull backpedaled, going after Tooth with his claymore. The man had serious strength, she admitted, but he had more of a brain than his moniker suggested.

Serene used one of the lightest weapons in the club, an epee, heavier than the foil, but still not a weapon which could withstand contact with a heavy weapon.

Ugly was a simplistic fighter, who preferred to get in close with his nightstick.

They played a close-far game against Stench, who in addition to smelling bad liked to use a sharpened farmer's rake.

The handle was not designed for fighting at all, and he was only able to deflect Ugly's nightstick once. His positioning was off, the epee pierced through the upper right side of his chest.

"Ow," Stench said, and Ugly smacked him across the head with his open palm, and the man went down on the matt.

Reaper and Tooth were surprisingly good as a duo, however, as Bull was near the edge of the arena, having taken a strike from the Reaper in order to avoid Tooth's maul.

Reaper was forced to turn to defend against Serene and Ugly, putting Tooth one on one against Bull.

Bull desperately deflected the Tooth's maul, forcing him out of position by the momentum, but but he somehow managed to reposition faster than Bull expected, and blocked Bull's strike, swinging the maul again.

Now Bull was on the back foot again, and Reaper had quickly defeated Serene and Ugly. Autumn didn't catch how he had done it, but they were both unconscious.

Bull tried to cause a surprise now, being one of the few club fighters with Grade two cultivation in fighting. Being a latent cultivator, he had saved his essence for the desperate moment. Ignoring Tooth, he used his bull charge, rushing straight at Reaper, trying to catch him by surprise.

Reaper was knocked down, and both of their weapons were deflected away as Bull crashed head first into reaper.

Autumn felt a pit of fear and sadness in her stomach as Tooth had advanced to Second Grade cultivation and a new technique as well.

He moved quickly, and his maul seemed to weigh three tons, as it came crashing down on both Bull and Reaper, and Bull's attempt at deflecting the blow at the last second couldn't stand up to the force in Tooth's strike.

The maul struck with gruesome force, both bloodying Bull and causing Bull to crash back into Reaper who was already hurt.

Autumn couldn't stand it, "I'm going to slice you up, one piece at a time Tooth! You won't have any teeth after I'm done!" she bellowed.

She hadn't noticed that there were two men working with Lin Hai. They came into the ring to drag away those who were hurt. What would they do with the Emperor's faithful?

This was very different from the hard fought but not gruesome fighting of past Club meets and tournaments.

Reaper could die for all she cared. He took part in this farce against a good honest man, who ran the club. She was angry and sad about Bull.

"Get your anger out on these other targets first, Xue Thu. The violent, and vile Ladyreaper and her minions are up next. Filthy, Pretty Boy, Beast, get in there. Goddess, Blood, join the Ladyreaper."

I really want to see the "hero's" perspective. He's standing to the side, sending innocent people to fight to the death for his goals; he couldn't fit into "evil puppeteer" aesthetics better if he tried. How does he see it? How does he justify it? Does he care at all?

If you reread the first judgement post, Lin Hai talks about being only a fellow assistant with the two people standing next to him... He does pull off the part though.

I'll make sure to have a part from Lin Hai's perspective.

Judgment 3: Ladyreaper
"Get your anger out on these other targets first, Xue Thu. The violent, and vile Ladyreaper and her minions are up next. Filthy, Pretty Boy, Beast, get in there. Goddess, Blood, join the Ladyreaper."

She was ready to tear bone from muscle, to unleash her true and ultimate strength. To rise beyond all levels and limits, if Ho Junko showed up by her side now, she would throw the girl in the ring immediately, and get to fighting.

Serene was a better woman fighter than Goddess, though the latter didn't think so. Goddess loved the color red, and used a red colored Sabre blade. Blood was a poor man's Reaper, using the more substantial broadsword instead of longsword.

She climbed into the Arena, ducking under the ropes. There didn't seem to be any rules on when the fights could start. She wondered the limits of that, deciding to take the initiative.

Before Filthy could even try any of his tricks with the Short sword and dagger, she rushed him. She only struck lightly, he was pathetic and she didn't have any strong hate for him. She slashed at him from left shoulder to right hip. He hadn't even prepared a guard yet. What a joke.

Beast had immediately went after Goddess, pressuring her a great deal with his wicked axe techniques. Autumn had already decided this group was just a warm up, so she should have avoided wasting her Blade steps.

She blade stepped behind Beast, stabbing deep into his lower back. He turned quickly, and Autumn frowned slightly, as Goddess slashed at the man's crotch causing him to collapse.

That kind of victory wasn't quite what she was going for, but Goddess laughed as they both turned to Pretty Boy.

She put her hand up to keep Goddess from doing anything too crazy.

"I surrender!" Pretty Boy said.

Lin Hai's voice rang out. "The Cursed will never be allowed to surrender, so also, the Heaven's faithful must never surrender!"

Pretty Boy had a nice face, and a nice family name: being a Young Master of First Families Conner.

"I'm surprised a First Families Young Master would side with the Enemy," Autumn said.

"We're originally from West Winds, and most Conners are still there. But my great grandfather had a dispute with his brother, on which sovereign was better."

"Come over here, and get a pat on your bottom," she said, offering leniency, but Pretty Boy didn't react in submission.

"I will face you, sister," Pretty Boy said.

So Autumn rapidly stormed towards him. He had a trick, she realized, and at the last minute he lited up his epee, intending to gut her in the middle of her charge.

She wasn't even feeling that sense of essence thirst, so she whimsically blade stepped behind him, and in one motion cut the Pretty Boy's long ponytail off his head.

She touched the boy with her right hand, and firmly pushed him onto the mat. He practically cried as he scrambled out of the arena. He was just a normal boy now, Autumn thought.

She smiled, stepping towards the edge of the arena. What had Blood even done in this fight, she wondered?

And in a split second, she reacted as her own teammate attacked. Barely deflecting the broadsword, she stepped away and watched as he had over committed and couldn't stop. Blood's momentum was only stopped by his neck running straight into the rope.

"Our first fighter to have a change of heart, the Heavens welcome you friend!"

Blood stood up, preparing to fight her, but what made him think he would succeed if his sneak attack had not?

Autumn approached, and instead of attacking or blocking, she stomped her foot on top of the traitor's own foot. He bowled over, and with a firm shove, she slid him under the rope and out of the arena.

Now, she could leave the arena, but her eyes needed to do double work in the next bout with traitors all around her.

Goddess rushed away from the ring. Autumn shouted at her, "Goddess, please, give me a minute. I need help if Tooth is going down!"

"Clown, Sweet Sis, Dirt, move on up! Cobra, Toothless, Moolah, you too!"

Judgment 4: Sweet Sis
"Clown, Sweet Sis, Dirt, move on up! Cobra, Toothless, Moolah, you too!"

Toothless was Tooth's brother. Moolah was a Chan First Families Young Master with plenty of money to spend on weapons and cultivation, but with no sense of how to fight.

This was a joke round, Sweet Sis and Cobra were the strongest fighters of the six, and she or Tooth or Bull could have wrecked either of them.

Toothless had to be one of those foul traitors, since his brother was. So that meant Sweet Sis was on her side? And Clown?"

These teams were weird, she would definitely not trust Clown if they were fighting side by side.

She didn't see the fight start, as she was looking for Goddess in the crowd, but the haughty fighter was gone. She was probably going to wipe her face and get all cleaned up, but she better be there for the second round. Why was Goddess the only one she could rely on?

When she finally turned around, she saw the six fighters actually battling three individual fights: Clown vs Toothless, Sweet Sis vs. Cobra, Dirt vs. Moolah.

Autumn focused on Sweet Sis's fight against Cobra. Like Filthy, Sweet Sis used two weapons, but hers were more practical, with the rapier and parrying dagger, or main gauche.

Cobra had almost been expelled from the club because he used more than two blades in a fight. With a primary dagger and a group of throwing daggers, as well as great evasive style.

Sweet Sis was already fighting with one dagger piercing her leg, but the others she must have batted away or dodged. Cobra's advantages were spent, and though the wound to her leg impaired her, she managed to outmaneuver Cobra, and surprise him with a stab from her parrying dagger. It was a great surprise, and she probably hadn't attacked with the dagger before that.

Looking to the other fights, Toothless was actually standing there waiting as he had defeated Clown. The surprising victory for the Emperor's team was Dirt defeating Moolah.

"Master Pham, your weapons are trash!" Moolah was shouting, as he scrambled out of the arena."

Dirt and Sweet Sis against Toothless. He might not have any teeth, but he was one of the only spear users in the club. Immediately he struck Dirt from long range, and Dirt stumbled, not even able to step away from the spear as it came.

Sweet Sis closed the distance, getting inside the spear's effective range, and stabbed her rapier at Toothless.

His own body seemed to deflect the strike, and he dropped the spear, punching Sweet Sis. Toothless rushed her, turning the tables, but this time, the rapier passed into his body mid run, causing horrific sounds and sights.

"You're gonna die Sweet Sis!" Tooth yelled.

Autumn grinned, "You've got to face me first!"

"Master Lin, I thought I was supposed to face Ladyreaper in the finals!" Tooth objected.

"My fellow assistant of Heaven, Thunderbolt, is destined to face Ladyreaper in the Club Finals. I expect to see some bonus rounds after. Thunderbolt! Fist, go on up! Two on Three, and you better be careful: Ice! The Mountain, Mac!"

Judgment 5. Thunderbolt
"My fellow assistant of Heaven, Thunderbolt, is destined to face Ladyreaper in the finals. Thunderbolt! Fist, go on up! Two on Three, and you better be careful: Ice! The Mountain, Mac!"

Thunderbolt was the girl standing next to Lin Hai, who was also called Hejl Yaeko by him. During the Club trials, she was called Blue.

She was using a long staff, which would seem to be even worse than Toothless' spear, without even sharpness. Such a long weapon, while nice at range, had no hope of being effective up close. Autumn didn't know how a staff user would be given the nickname Thunderbolt.

She couldn't be that great, as she had barely defeated the other competitor trying to get into the club.

The Mountain was the biggest man in the club. It was hard to say how big, his warhammer was heavy, but the man's real legend was his ability to take a ton of hits and keep standing.

Ice was the last woman of the group, and possibly the weakest. Certainly not squeamish, and together with Mac they could possibly defeat Fist.

The first sign that Thunderbolt was a serious threat was that she copied Autumn's own approach, immediately turning on Ice, "Sorry sister," she said, and swinging the long staff, it expanded to become even longer, reaching out to hit Ice from ten feet away.

Ice collapsed to one side immediately. A weapon that changed?

"That's a rules violation!" Autumn shouted. "Thunderbolt is using an illegal weapon! It has to be!"

"We aren't playing by your rules, anymore, Princess," Lin Hai said.

In the moment she shouted about the rules, Thunderbolt had turned and swung her staff, finding it was blocked, shortening it, and then lengthening it again to swing again. In two blows Mac was down, his nose was broken and bleeding as the wooden staff had scraped across his face.

The Mountain was still plodding towards her. Fist was known to use the one handed blade plus fist fighting style, but he had little choice but to circle around, trying to get to the Mountain's back side, while Thunderbolt resisted his war hammer with her size changing staff.

This fight was a good one, as Mountain met Thunder, and they exchanged force on force, blow after blow. The Mountain struck first, hitting Thunderbolt's arm in an incidental contact, but Thunderbolt got a solid hit to the Moutain's right side in retaliation.
The battle between a wooden staff and the metal face of the hammer, sounded different than anything else. Thunderbolt seemed ferociously strong, perhaps not The Mountain strong, but with her superior footwork and size-changing staff, she managed to gradually press the advantage, but Autumn expected the fight to continue for five more minutes.

In the moment when it seemed no one was going to win, Fist finally had a chance to strike, stabbing his dagger into The Mountains back and punching with his fist repeatedly.

Groaning and spinning around, The Mountain managed to retaliate against Fist, and he tumbled backwards from The Mountains's strike.

The Mountain intended to take Thunderbolt's staff strike in order to defeat Fist, but he didn't expect the staff to be wreathed in Heaven's Lighting! She had Fourth Grade Heaven's Lightning! Where had this monster of a fighter and cultivator been?

The Heavy wallop of her staff bruised the Mountain, and the lightning caused him to crumble, his body spasming from the electric currents.

The haulers had to carry The Mountain out, but the two alone had no chance of it, though they surely tried.

Lin Hai shouted "Ah, I haven't used any cards lately. Strange Levity! Eagle's Cry of the Cursed! Slap the Defeated!"

He threw three cards down like the cards and the essence to power them were nothing at all.

"As Reaper is in no condition to fight, Tooth! Ladyreaper! Goddess!"

"I'm ready for revenge Tooth!" Autumn said, jumping up and down, and practicing slashes and footwork, in between actual steps towards the arena. Tooth had taken down Bull, this would be a real battle. She still hadn't felt any lack of essence in her core. How far could she unleash her fighting strength?

Judgment 6. Overdose
"As Reaper is in no condition to fight, Tooth! Ladyreaper! Goddess!"

"I'm ready for revenge Tooth!" Autumn said, jumping up and down, and practicing slashes and footwork, in between approaching the ropes of the arena. Tooth had taken down Bull, this would be a real battle. She still hadn't felt any lack of essence in her core. How far could she unleash her fighting strength?

"Ask Bull whether one Tooth is enough. Not a lady, not a reaper," Tooth jested.

She thought Goddess wasn't going to get into the Arena after all, but after a few minutes, where she held her guard against Tooth carefully, the Goddess finally showed up.

It wasn't even a second after Goddess lined up next to her, that her "ally" tried to stab her. It was too sudden for any normal defense, so she blade stepped behind Tooth, but he was ready, and his maul was already swung full force behind his back to hit her at shoulder height. Dodging by limbo was unusual, but she still managed to drop to the ground in time and let the swing unbalance Tooth. Tooth was a real cultivating fighter however, and he was able to return to a guard position quickly, and deflected her Dao blade.

Stepping back, she pondered if she had another Blade step in her. Why not try, she decided. Goddess wasn't so skilled, and stepping behind her, she gouged at the woman who betrayed her, cutting through knee bone and cartilage, and causing the woman's legs to completely lose their support.

Retrieving her blade was equally gruesome, but she instinctively responded to Tooth's special overpowered strike, and for the first time ever, she teleported once and then again immediately. Back to back Blade steps! She continued to feel more powerful and flowing in her teleport-blade style.

If the Emperor himself betrayed the Empire's cause, she would strike him down!

Her back-to-back blade steps changed things up, placing her at the man's side, in position to just barely hack at his hip, as he had miraculously already turned his maul's course. This was a Maul cultivator indeed!

She played with Tooth, laughing every time he tried to wind up his devastating special maul strikes. She, who hated to spend an extra iota on essence, was frequently teleporting twice, even three times in a row to fool him. She had teleported more in the past hour than in the past three months before that.

She knew she had been too clever, when after four blade step fakeouts in the row, the maul hit her straight in the stomach, and she went woomp onto the ground.

The wind was knocked out of her, but she didn't dare not to use blade step again. Did Xue Lee somehow mix up the potions, and give her the potion that the Emperor took each morning? She felt like she could conquer the Heavens all by herself.

But she hesitated to try to fight Tooth in her normal style, instead inventing a new fighting style on the fly against an incredibly nimble master of the maul. Why think about stances and positioning when you can teleport to whatever position you want?

She was researching on the fly. Her sword had no momentum after teleporting, so she had to swing after arriving to her new position.

The blade step would fail if she tried to teleport herself into a situation where the Dao blade would already be stabbed into Tooth. She rapidly learned to keep her sword just one degree away from ripping into Tooth, so that after she Blade Stepped, she could cut without hesitation.

But none of this quite worked until she discovered her second martial ability. It happened almost by accident as she fumbled and almost lost grip on her Dao blade. Suddenly the blade was where she had wanted to teleport herself to, and it still had it's momentum.

The Blade teleport involved teleporting the blade, but it preserved the speed of her strike. She just had to think of throwing the Dao blade and teleporting it somewhere. So she could swing the Dao blade from across the arena, and then teleport the blade mid strike, to damage Tooth.

They had both fought for so long without any restraint, that she had lost her concern for how gruesome the blade strike would be. Tooth had taken every trick in the book, and she had fairly escalated. She would avenge Bull!

So She went for the best target. The blade made contact with Tooth's neck, and it didn't stop moving until it had clanged to the ground beyond him. The Crowd noise that she had completely been used to, went deadly silent.

"You will repay the heavens Threefold for that treachery cursed, heavens-dashed foul Xue Thu!" Lin Hai shouted.

Mmm... what treachery? It was an open fight. I also don't like that she's using Essence this much, I feel that it'll bite her later.

This is a 6th story post without a vote or any form of control of allegedly players' character. I also don't see how the votes we had before have any control on the story at this moment. @azatol do you plan to have other Protagonist's incidents be resolved this way?

Man Autumn is really being mind fucked in this update she's rushing through her reserves without care though thankfully it seems like her talent is letting her use bladestep better mid battle. Doesn't help when she's so mind fucked and into the battle zone that she just killed her opponent.

Your votes actually made Autumn more compassionate and honest and less intense than she would have been. But I realize the choices pre smack down are not especially meaningful.

you have big choices to make after this section.

I was going to make the arena stuff one mega post with a vote at the end but I thought it would work better to break it up.

After this little section of arena posts you guys will be deciding how the story goes with votes after every main post.

i can just post the rest of the Arena tournament if you guys want to get through this.

I'll have some interlude perspectives in between main story posts, but otherwise votes after every post
