A story where Lavos of Chrono Trigger is now a Grandpa
It moved through the vastness of space. Those planets that saw it might have considered it as some kind of red comet or asteroid hurtling through the cosmos and not given it a second thought. This was by design of its species. Not that it knew what its species was, it had only met one other of its kind before it had been expelled into space: its progenitor, which had another word that came from the Arbiter, its "mother," though the term was inaccurate. It had been created by accident and the measures to taken to safely send it off the planet that had been mother's home had been calculated and with great effort.
It did not know why it could not stay with mother. It had been too young to dream of such things before it was sent into space. Its mind was so slow, everything just hurtled past. It had its ancestral memories given by mother: of her world and of the one before. It knew that the purpose of its kind was to travel between worlds, gathering energy and information for millions of years and leaving it a barren wasteland before departing and causing the cycle to start a new.
That was the way of its kind for countless cycles, until the cycle was broken and mother's progenitor was slain by the inhabitants of its world. Mother did not want to start the cycle anew. She had wanted to learn from her world, and begin a different cycle that did not end in parasitism, but, instead, symbiosis. It did not know if mother ever achieved her goal. It did not recall ever receiving a name.
For a brief time, a few thousand years according to her mother's world's reckoning, it considered choosing its own name, but nothing. From what it could pull from its ancestral memories, both of its ancestors had been given their name by others. Mother was called Obsidian by her Arbiter and Lavos had been named by those humans that witnessed its arrival on the planet. As it floated through space, it decided it was not like it didn't know who it was thinking about, and throughout its journey it never met another it needed to distinguish its identity to, and so the idea was given up on.
Its ancestral memories told it that this isolation was fortunate, because this time between stars was when it was most vulnerable to other creatures that preyed on its kind. Its thoughts settled as it continued to move through space, content to observe the slowly changing surroundings and to dream of past worlds.
[ ][Dream] Your mother's Progenitor was slain by a group of warriors, who traveled the ages to save their world. {Remember the heroes who slew Obsidian's Progenitor. Associated with mortal skill, tenacity, and ability to rise above their station.}
[ ][Dream] "Lavos," a beast from the sky who glutted upon the world's energies, ignoring its inhabitants almost completely. {Remember Obsidian's Progenitor. Associated with it's natural personal power, methods of harnessing it, and it's effect on the world.}
[ ][Dream] A group of girls that were trained by Obsidian. {Remember the huntresses who protected Obsidian. Associated with mortal interaction, training, and ability to generate aura in others.}
[ ][Dream] "Obsidian," a curious aberration that wished to know more about the world and encourage the dreams of others. {Remember its mother. Associated with skill assimilation, mortal connection, and ability to share dreams.}
