    "We're going to call him Nawaki."

    You start and you feel your mother's hand stroking your head. Nawaki Senju. The younger brother of Tsunade and briefly a student of Orochimaru. Also…dead before he even made Chuunin to an explosive tag. The thought was not comforting. Still, that just meant you would have to forge a different path..a stronger path.

    "Aiii!!"

    The sound of a girl's voice could be heard and in a blur the door to the hospital room opened. You barely had time to react before the face of a young blonde could be seen directly in front of yours.
    You felt the urge to cry once again but pushed it down and instead focused on your sister. She had a soft smile on her face and before you knew it, she had kissed your forehead. The action caused your tiny body to giggle and you saw the girl's smile grow even wider.

    "Tsunade, meet your baby brother, Nawaki."

    The girls smile grew even larger if that was possible. She cooed, "You're going to be the best brother ever and I'm going to take good care of you, but one moment!"

    You watched as the girl turned on her heel and marched directly towards Hashirama. She stuck out her hands greedily, "Pay up, old man! I told you it'd be a boy!"

    "Tsunade, show more respect to your grandfather," you heard your mother gently chide the girl, but you could tell there was no heart in the rebuke.

    "Nuh uh, he owes me!"

    You watched in amusement as the First Hokage, master of Mokuton, scowled and rummaged through his pockets to give some coin to the small girl in front of him. He seemed the grumble, but you could see the good natured going in his eyes.

    As you looked around with your tiny eyes, you felt a smile appear on your face. There were far worse families to have been born into in this world. At least it seemed that you would be in a family that loved you and would support you no matter what. The thought made you smile.

    Time passed in a flash. As an infant, you did not have much control over your early life. You remember the sadness that surrounded your life when Hashirama died. You remember the fear as the First Shinobi World War raged. You remember the pain on your father's face when they announced Tobirama had died in combat.

    Still, you were but an infant and could affect little. Still, the person you found yourself closest to during these years was,

    I kind of want to see where this goes. I think the canon choice would be Tsunade.

    The academy probably would give us more control over sl and what we learn early but I don't want to go through the slog.

    I don't know much about her, but I'm willing to bet that the woman who implanted a WMD into herself is badass. And her perspective is interesting to me, she grew up before ninja villages ever existed. Really want to spend some time with her.

    I don't really care that much about our academy career, I want to get to the meat of the story.

    Edit: I was convinced that Nawaki has a really difficult start in his ninja career, dying really early canonically and that we should get every advantage we can get. I'm not that good with the timeline but I believe the second war should have already started or is beginning around the time he graduates. I just hope we don't squander the benefits the earlier start can give him.

    My thought process is Mito would cover the MCs Uzumaki heritage. MC probably won't get any bloodline techs since he's male and the only ones seen using them in canon have been female. She might introduce sealing and a meeting with kushina. I just can't remember what else the Uzumaki clan can do.

    As for mama and papa senju, they're wild cards. Probably focusing on senju heritage stuff but no idea what senju would focus on let alone what each of them would specialize in.

    Tsunade is maybe medical or an introduction to the young sanin.

    Still interested in the trio, mostly to try and prevent imploding

    I would like to think academy life was mainly spent as normal school stuff, maybe not in control, but learning and having friends. I'd rather not think about life being messed up enough that a kid needs to take control of their own life that young

    Early bird catches the worm, and I know Tsunade at least makes it so I'm going with these two.

    Also, I'm not keen on trying to powergame this by learning from Grandma; Tsunade has been super sweet and it'd be a travesty to not be super close.

    A Case for Mito
    I don't think this vote is as much about what we're going to learn as who is going to be most influential in our early life. Honestly, while I think we can build stronger relationships with our parents and Tsunade later, we only have a limited amount of time to spend with this woman. Focusing on her this early will be our only chance to really touch on our Uzumaki heritage. Additionally, it gives us a future in with a friendship with Kushina and then later Naruto (if he's ever even born). I like the idea that Mito could be our precious person and give us insight into things like "why the villages were created" and more about Hashirama. Not to mention tailed beast shenanigans and such.

    A Case for Earlier Start
    I get the desire for avoiding an early slog. And would probably be down for just jumping straight to genin...but Nawaki became a genin. Then fricking died a few weeks later. Starting as genin doesn't really give us the time imo to truly tailor Nawaki's skillset or personality to be prepared for what's coming. So, I'd like to see more of that.

    Oh...fun research btw. The two canon characters closest in age to Nawaki are Might Dai and Fugaku Uchiha.

    well nawaki in canon dies at the age of 12 that means that unless they have accelerated the academy a lot because of the war it means he dies in one of his first missions (within his first year as a genin probably) so from the academy it gives us a better chance of survival
