[X] You saw Tenryu move faster than your eyes could follow. Suggest he leaves these guys to you, while he quickly runs in and makes sure this doesn't become a hostage situation!
Winning Vote: You saw Tenryu move faster than your eyes could follow. Suggest he leaves these guys to you, while he quickly runs in and makes sure this doesn't become a hostage situation!
"No, Dragon! You go, I'll handle stuff here! You're much faster than me, make sure this doesn't become a hostage situation!" you commanded.
"Leaving a woman alone against a group of criminals isn't very heroic!" Tenryu shouted back, his voice telling you how conflicted he felt about your choice.
"But saving citizens from danger is! Help them out, Dragon! Don't worry about me, I got more than enough tricks for these fools!" you confidently exclaimed.
"...Gah! Fine, you handle things, I'll go on ahead! I'll be back when I make sure everything is okay!" Tenryu said, running towards the building at great speeds, taking down a few members of the yakuza on the way. As he entered the building, he gave you one last look before the door closed. Now it was you against many, many criminals!
Now with only one target, the yakuza quickly surrounded you, but you jumped into the air to avoid their grasp! However, one of the yakuza, a rather big and burly man who was standing back from the crowd pointed at you and shouted to attack, causing two yakuza by his side to make hand seals and spit fireballs at you!
You slung together your hand seals and snuffed out the fireballs by spitting a torrent of water at them. Before you landed at the ground, you reached outward, extending your arm and grabbing a nearby fence, pulling yourself away from the group and giving you a chance to breath.
"They're trained, yeah, but it seems like they won't use ninjutsu on their own. The second I got out of the way, they fired at me! Literally!" you thought. The spotlights were quick to shine on you, making you a large target once more. You expected another rush from the yakuza, but the burly man and his two partners were now up front, all three of them making hand seals! The two minions spat out fireballs like usual, but the burly man's hands were covered in wind chakra! With a grunt, he clapped his hands before thrusting his palms forward, feeding the fire with a gale of wind and turning it into a massive wave of flames!
What will you do?!
Critical Moment!
[] Counter with your Violent Water Wave! Even if it's enhanced, water beats fire!
[] Get the hell out of there with a substitution jutsu! No way you're gonna try to block that mess!
[] Defend with Imperial Wall! Your metal will not bend to this attack!
[] Try to send the attack back with Great Breakthrough! They're not the only ones who can use wind!
[X] Try to send the attack back with Great Breakthrough, and follow up with substitution!
Sending back their conflagration forces them and the many mooks to defend or flee, instead of immediately following up their attack. They also haven't seen us use wind, I believe - just water and lightning.
Edit: Apparently the wind user's hands are still coated in wind, so he might bounce the fire back. Still, that would be one hell of a fire if he did manage to send it back, which still gives a breather for us.
Winning Vote: Try to send the attack back with Great Breakthrough, and follow up with substitution!
You noted a few things you could substitute with in case your plan went south, but you were worried that the massive spread of the jutsu would leave you with nowhere to run. But there was no more time to second guess yourself, you made hand seals and inhaled deeply.
"Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!"
You exhaled a powerful gale of wind from your mouth. The idea was that you'd push back the flames into the yakuza and take down the whole group in one shot! As your wall of wind reached the flame, something unexpected happened. Your wind fed into the flames, stopping it's advance on you, but now the flames swelled rapidly, the clash of your wind against the burly man's, sending the fire everywhere in every direction!
"Ah, friendly fire!" you shouted as you substituted away from the explosion of flames, but the fire managed to catch your left leg, searing pain running up your leg as you felt your shoe and pant leg burn up, revealing freshly burnt flesh that went up to your knee. You swore and cursed, spitting out a gentle stream of water to sooth your leg. When you were finished, you saw the surrounding area was now ablaze, even the watchtowers in the distance were in danger of the encroaching flames!
That might make it a bit tougher to safely get everyone out of here...
To your shock, you felt the earth sink underneath you, you were being sucked into a pit of quicksand! Instead of panicking, you cleared your head and did basic manipulation of earth chakra to easily escape from the quicksand. You saw that most if not all of the horde was defeated, laying on the ground in various states of burned. However, a dome of burnt earth was now in the exact spot where the burly man and his two minions were. Soon the dome crumbled into dust, revealing a tall, lanky woman with brown hair tied in a ponytail standing in front of the men.
"Another man went into the building!" the burly man spoke to the lanky woman.
"Boss told me to deal with the intruder here, he will deal with the fool who ran inside." the woman coldly said.
"Alright. You two, you still good to go?" the burly man asked.
"Yes, sir!" they spoke in unison.
"Okay, now there's too many to track here. You used the earth jutsu just now, right?" you asked, pointing at the woman.
"I did." she bluntly answered.
"Okay, you're Dirt, big guy is Gust, and the two fire guys are called Heat and Hot." you declared.
"What?!" Dirt shouted, looking very offended. "My name is-"
"Dirt!" you cut in with a biggest, smuggest grin.
"...That's it, you're dead." Dirt angrily said, beginning to make hand seals. Gust, Heat, and Hot also hand their hands at the ready for hand seals, but weren't making any seals, clearly going to follow in Dirt's lead.
You stood to your feet, hissing in pain as your injured leg clearly argued with the action, sending up hot lances of agony into your body.
"New fighter joins the brawl, eh? She uses earth, Gust uses wind, Heat and Hot use fire. Bad time to get a bum leg. Alright...what to do now...?"
[] Combo Fierce Echo with Siren's Scream to paralyze them, then take them down with Paralyzing Touch!
[] Use Wooden Arm and then do a surprise ranged attack with your stretchy limbs to score a direct hit on Dirt!
[] Use Stabbing Pain on some sensitive areas on them, then follow up with a Violent Water Wave/Lightning Surge combo!
[] Open the Second Gate and take them out before they can realize what happened!
Winning Vote: Use Stabbing Pain on some sensitive areas on them, then follow up with a Violent Water Wave/Lightning Surge combo!
You rushed forward, making hand seals and substituted away as Dirt used an earth jutsu that fired out rocks from the ground at you! You managed to get close to the group as you finished your hand seals, making sure all their focus was on you. Gust, Heat, and Hot tried to use their jutsu, but you made one last hand seal and used Stabbing Pain all on their most sensitive areas! All of them screamed and fell onto their knees as they felt the sensation of being stabbed as you chained together more hand seals.
You quickly made a large wave of water that slammed into the four elemental ninjutsu users, the added pain certainly breaking out of the genjutsu you placed on them! You were quick to follow up by slamming your hands on the water, channeling lightning chakra that chaotically bounced and flowed through the water and onto the wet group of yakuza!
They all screamed as the lightning shocked them, the water empowering it's effects and you kept the jutsu going until all of them passed out. You sighed, feeling the burn of low stamina. You did chain together a bunch of jutsu at once, after all. But thankfully it all worked out. You went around the bodies of all the yakuza, encasing their hands together behind their backs with a bit of earth chakra to make sure they stay where they are.
You noticed the spotlights were no longer on you and a few more yakuza tried to take you down, but you were quick to easily take them down with a few Paralyzing Touches. When you were finished, you dropped to the ground as the pain of your burnt leg overwhelmed you. It was then you saw the doors opening to the building and Tenryu came out, holding the unconscious body of a large man who was shirtless and had a large tattoo of a oni on his back.
"Oh, good! I was worried you'd be hurt!" Tenryu said, dropping what you assumed was the boss of this outpost. As for Tenryu himself, there was no scratch or even a single sign of battle on him. Then he looked at your leg. "OH NO YOU'RE HURT!"
"It's fine, I just need to rest for a bit. Did you take out everyone else?" you asked, waving towards the building.
"Yeah. Looks like the whole gang came out to deal with us. Only the boss and a few men were left, but they weren't any trouble." Tenryu casually said. "Managed to find the women, they're underground. But...uh. Um."
"What is it?" you sighed.
"Well. Um. Most of the women are scared that I'm also a yakuza member. I tried to say I'm not, but they won't believe me. Especially one woman, she kept on calling me a savage." Tenryu shamefully muttered. "So maybe I was wondering if you went with me, you'd help them calm down."
"I'm unsure what I could do, but I'll try." you said, extending a hand towards Tenryu. He grabbed it and easily lifted you up. Placing an arm around his neck, he helped you hobble into the building. There was nothing special about the inside, it looked like a lobby where people would wait with couches, magazines, and the like. Eventually you and Tenryu reached a door at the end of the room and opened it, revealing a stairway that went downward.
After an agonizingly slow climb down the stairs, you saw a long hallway with cells on both sides of you. However, to your (and Tenryu's ) surprise, there was someone in front of you. It was a beautiful, yet exotic looking woman with long black hair that was unkempt and greasy from lack of cleaning. Barring a few healing bruises on her face, her skin was flawless and had a golden hue to it. She wore loose and tattered rags that she clutched onto with as single hand so it wouldn't show anything indecent. Her eyes were a dark purple and you could see disgust and anger flaring in them. Finally, you noticed her wrists were badly bruised and bloody, if you had to guess it was from escaping whatever had her chained up.
"You disgusting savages!" the woman spoke, she had a noticeable accent but otherwise was flawless in her speech.
"She must be from the eastern lands. Probably tried coming into the Mist Empire and got captured. She's the one calling me a savage, by the way." Tenryu whispered.
"I could have guessed." you whispered back. You took a deep breath and began to speak to the foreign woman. "Calm down, we're here to help!"
"I don't believe you! I managed to break out of your weird chi disrupting bindings and I knew you were drugging me in the food you gave me. I have all my power back! If you kneel and beg for mercy, I might let you go!" the woman harshly shouted.
"You can go upstairs and outside and see all the yakuza we beat up if you want! Blanky and I are heroes of justice! We came to rescue you and the other women!" Tenryu explained.
"Go away, you savages!" the woman said as both you and Tenryu suddenly flew upwards into the ceiling, bashing your heads on the concrete. You saw stars for a moment but managed to recover and land on your good foot. Meanwhile, Tenryu was utterly blindsided by the attack and seemed heavily dazed and confused.
The woman made an odd motion with her hands and the jail bars next to you and Tenryu rapidly bent and began to wrap around your bodies! You ducked underneath the metal as the bars wrapped around Tenryu and sent him flying into the now bar-less cell, completely immobilized.
"What the hell are you doing, we're trying to help!" you cried out.
"Quiet, worm!" the woman shouted, getting into an odd fighting position you have never seen before.
Well, negotiations broke down rapidly, and Tenryu got hit by a cheap shot. Looks like you were on your own for now. But looking at the woman, even if she did have weird powers, she most likely isn't in the greatest condition.
What will you do?
[] Continue trying to talk down the woman. You weren't going to fight a prisoner!
[] You need to stop this woman! She's clearly freaking out, so you gotta stop her before she hurts anyone else!
Winning Vote: Use Siren Scream and Freezing touch on her head to knock her out for now.
You made hand seals before screaming to paralyze the woman with a genjutsu. She recoiled and covered her ears, giving you the perfect time to rush forward and made more hand seals, your hand becoming coating in an aura of icy chakra. You were stopped in your tracks as it felt like you ran into an invisible wall, making you stumble backwards. Then the woman extended her hand and some invisible force slammed into your face like a powerful punch that sent you flying backwards.
"Argh...what the hell?" you muttered.
"Your vile illusions might work on some commoner, but I am Jiao Wu-Yun, Princess of Tiger! Your simple tricks cannot defeat me!" Jiao exclaimed, looking awfully haughty and confident. That confidence was soon broken as she gasped and felt down onto her knees. "What...sorcery is this...?!"
"You're probably just exhausted. Please, I really don't want to fight you. We're both too injured to go on." you said, getting to your feet. Well, more like balancing on one foot.
"I can't...trust you. You...filthy savage!" Jiao growled.
"Look, I can imagine your first time getting into Jihopan wasn't great, but Dragon and I are different, really." you continued, trying to peacefully end things.
"Then WHY did you attack ME?!" Jiao roared.
"I was trying to just end the fight as harmlessly as possible, we just want to help, honest! I mean, to be fair, you did attack first-"
"Quiet!" Jiao exclaimed, getting to her feet and trying to use a move...before her slanted eyes rolled into the back of her head and she passed out.
"...Silver linings, Maya. Silver linings." you sighed. You went over to Tenryu, who seemed to have regained his bearings.
"Is everything okay?" he asked, still wrapped up in metal bars.
"Yeah. Hold on a sec..." you said, placing your hand on the bars and molding your metal chakra to weaken them to the point Tenryu could break them himself. He got to his feet, rubbing his head where there was a quite the large and comical looking lump emerging out of his hair.
"Thanks. Now Blanky, you should rest. There will be ships that the Kyogoku have that we can use to get back. That's where I'll message the Mist and rescue all the women here. But that lady who fought us...hm. She seems really dangerous, you know? Maybe I should turn her in..." Tenryu muttered.
That did sound good, and it did leave you with the freedom to finally search the item for the effigy you were supposed to break for Raksha. But a thought went through your mind. Jiao...she seemed pretty powerful and you didn't know what she was doing so far from her homeland. Perhaps she could become a powerfully ally. Also, she was really, really pretty. It would be a waste of Tenryu just put her in jail, or left her to the machinations of the Mist.
What will you do? Will you let Tenryu handle Jiao, or will you try to make a case for her so you can have her join your team?
[] Let Tenryu handle Jiao. She seems like too much trouble for all her power.
[] Convince Tenryu to let you handle Jiao. Other than being super hot, you're interested in her abilities and you need more allies!
Winning Vote: Convince Tenryu to let you handle Jiao. Other than being super hot, you're interested in her abilities and you need more allies!
"Dragon, let me handle Jiao, okay?" you said, glancing towards the unconscious woman. It was clear she'd be out for a long time.
"Jiao? Who's Jia-...Oh!" Tenryu exclaimed, as he now understood who you meant. "I mean...alright. I'll trust you. I need to get the message out, plus I wanna make sure everyone up there is properly tied up for when the Mist gets here."
"Alright, sounds good. I'm also going to look for the effigy you said was here." you sighed, knowing that searching for it wouldn't be too kind to your injured foot, but there was no other option.
"Effigy? Oh...Oh! Y-Yes...uh...that effigy! I saw it...up in the top room!" Tenryu stammered shakily, his eyes constantly darting to the side from underneath his mask.
"...Dragon, I gotta ask. Did you actually even see the effigy? Or did you lie in order to get my help?" you asked in your most innocent sounding tone, tilting your head to the side with a slight frown, hoping to guilt the truth from him.
"Welp gotta check on everyone be safe see you later!" Tenryu nervously laughed, completely ignoring your question. You sigh as he runs up the stairs and out of the room. Given his reaction to your question, you can safely say the effigy probably isn't here, but you managed to help people so you're not too mad. After making sure Jiao's unconscious body is stable enough, you use some basic Earth Release to carefully bind her within the concrete hallway's walls, just in case she wakes up while you were busy searching.
Limping up the stairs, you finally manage to get a good look at the lobby. It was well maintained with the tile floors being white and unmarked, the leather furniture looked to be in pristine condition, and you could smell the slight scent of cigarettes coming from a small trash can in the corner. Biting your lip, you found the way upstairs and the upper floors weren't anything too special, mainly long hallways with doors across from each other, most likely meeting rooms or lounges.
The building was about four stories tall and your burnt leg felt every inch of that journey upstairs. On the way up, you had to sit down for a rest, and soothe the burns with a small spray of water before continuing. Finally you managed to reach the top, where the entire floor looked to be a massive room. You noticed some tied up bodies of yakuza unconscious on the ground and the signs of battle, the tile floor was carved into and furniture was flung everywhere. The windows were cracked and an important looking desk that sat at the far end of the room was sliced cleanly in half.
"Tenryu put in work, eh?" you muttered to yourself. You took another look around the room and to your surprise you found something tucked away in a far corner. A statue of a...humanoid with large circular, broad shoulders with contrasting arms that were short and stubby. It's head seemed to be wearing some sort of regalia that reminded you of Raksha's crown in a weird way. Finally, it had very broad hips and wide legs, but the feet almost looked like stumpy nubs that'd make it very difficult for it to stand. The few parts that weren't rusted over even had a small amount moss growing over them. As you carefully lifted it, clumps of dry dirt fell from the legs. Going by the lack of care for the statue, you could tell that all they've done with it is move it from it's former resting place, and not much else. Lucky for you, they didn't accidentally destroy it before you had the chance to.
With a deep breath, you lifted the statue over your head and threw it against the ground as hard as you count. Even if it was made of metal, it's advanced age had weakened the effigy to the extent where the shattered into pieces. You smirked in a job well done, even if Tenryu had lied to you, it all worked out in the end.
"Urk!" you grunted as you lurched forward, a wave of dizziness and nausea overtaking you. You dropped to your knees and dry heaved a few times before your eyes rolled into the back of your head and darkness overtook you.
---
"Open your eyes, my chosen. You have done a wonderful job." a deep and booming voice thankfully declared. Your eyes snapped open and you were in the blank void with the inhumanly tall Raksha standing over you. You were on the featureless white ground and got to your feet, your foot no longer was burnt!
"Ugh, what happened...?" you muttered, rubbing your head groggily.
"You did as I asked. You destroyed that cursed effigy and stopped the spread of demonic energy. Congratulations!" Raksha happily explained, clapping his four hands. "You have done well to uphold your end of the bargain. Now, usually one with the Rinnegan would naturally unlock their powers over time, but I will speed up this process. However, there is a minor drawback."
"You never said anything about that before!" you complained, clenching your fists.
"Peace. I'm merely giving you the power now, rather than later. So minor that I wouldn't even call it a drawback, but I'd feel awful if I didn't tell my chosen everything that comes with this boon." Raksha clearly says, lightly shaking his three heads.
"Hm. Alright. I guess it'll be fine then." you sighed with resignation. You went through too much to simply not get a reward out of this ordeal!
"Very well. I'm sure you know the Rinnegan's six paths, so please focus on the one you wish to empower and leave it to me from there." Raksha explained, placing a golden finger on your forehead. "Close your eyes, my chosen. Focus..."
You did so, focusing on which path you wished to improve...
@Megacookie is Raksha going to wait until after the vote to state the drawback? Or was it the nausea? Can we hold off on picking a path for him to explain the drawback?

Naraka Rank 2:
You can apply a special genjutsu to your body, a glamour of perfected transformation technique, creating a perfect disguise that cannot be seen through without major inconsistencies. You can now combine three genjutsu of the same sense, or two genjutsu of different sense, and are resistant to a second type of genjutsu of your choice.
Two genjutsu of different senses is a tremendous boost in our versatility of our existing genjutsu. The glamour also makes bypassing border patrols near perfect.
While genjutsu is no doubt useful, this arc has shown that if we're not careful we can be overwhelmed by groups. We were lucky that Kai and Ishako had specced as they had, but I say we should start to prep having allies with us from now on. Not to mention it's best to get this started now instead of putting it to the side where it won't be worth leveling.
