I'm thinking that the ballet Taylor was taught was from the River Tam school of Ass Kicking. Annette did a splendid job of teaching Taylor how to MOVE with style, grace and lethality. Danny is probably the one that taught her about proportionate response. Ahhh, the lessons of youth... appears that the E88 breakaways never learned those lessons.

After-action report:

Piggot: Hebert?! TAYLOR HEBERT?! Danny's and Annette's kid?!
Militia: That's the one, ma'am.
(*silence*)
Piggot: Why am I so not surprised?

Piggot: Ok, I'm caught up on the report, but there are things missing. The normals being shredded by regular gunfire, or blades of some sort, I understand, but how did she deal with Alabaster, Kreig and Hookwolf? That pasty white Nazi restores fully after about four and a half seconds, Kreig is nearly immune to gunfire because of his kinetic ability, and the murder blender regenerates everything. So how'd she do it, and why the hell isn't in the report?

Militia: Ummm, hmmm. Well, for starters, we don't want her methods in the official report. It's deliberately closely held info. If you destroy the corona of a Parahuman, you kill their powers. Even if they had regenerative powers, they can't regenerate if their corona suddenly goes missing, and Taylor took that to extremes. For Alabaster and Hookwolf, she used the sniper rifle and literally blew the top of their heads off. No head equals no powers equals no regen. Pop goes the Nazi. For Kreig she had to get creative. Not sure where she learned ninja stealth techniques, but she managed to drop behind him and slipped an improvised garrote over his head at the same time. She used a couple screw drivers as handles and some piano wire from the music room. From what we've seen, his kinetic ability requires him to be actively using it AND concentrating on how it's to be used. Apparently a person dropping behind him is not an attack directed at him, so he wouldn't immediately notice it. The wire being slipped over his head was probably too quick for him to even realize it was happening, much less being able to stop because his concentration was suddenly "my neck is being shredded", and at that point far too late for him to do anything about.
...
Piggot: Any chance we can hire her for the PRT when she hits eighteen? She's certainly got the mindset for dealing with villains.
Militia: Probably not. You'd have to fight half the TLA's in Washington, and the DWU. And she also mentioned being interested in College and Engineering. Seems she's got some talent for "figuring out how to make things work", which dovetails surprisingly well with practical applications of "creative problem solving" when it comes to eliminating threats.

Piggot: Damn. We could have used her. Oh well, she did Danny and Annette proud, that's for damn sure.

Militia: It's only Danny now. Annette died in a car accident a few years ago.

Piggot: Damn, that's rough. Remind me to send condolences about that, and a thank you for Taylor's service to humanity in general in the morning. I think a transfer to Arcadia as a reward might be appropriate. Can you get that started?

Militia: Will do. Knowing her background, I think Annette would have liked that, and Taylor will definitely appreciate being out of the 'wretched hive of scum and villainy' called Winslow.

Piggot: Kaiser is gonna have a meltdown once he finds out what happened, especially when he hears about Othala. Fortunately, once he finds out who it was that dismantled his ex-minions, he shouldn't cause any problems. Nobody in the E88 wants the full attention of the DWA as well as nearly every other union in the city, going Nazi hunting. The E88 going after Taylor would result in a very sudden, and extremely painful, removal of ever member in very short order. Not that that would be a really bad thing...

Militia: True. But lets hope it doesn't come to that. I'll get the Arcadia paperwork started.

(oops, the characters seem to have run away with the scene)

For Kreig she had to get creative.
Krieg is easy. She just needs to use the 'has to breathe' issue most parahumans continue to have (Weld is the obvious exception). Doesn't even need access to a school chemistry lab, just cleaning products, maybe some kitchen supplies, and it's poison gas time...

Hookwolf is more tricky if he is in Changer form - thermite has its attractions (probably do-able at Winslow, in particular if they have Shop, but likely not quickly). Barring that, Taylor might have to get creative creative (seems unlikely he's immune to electricity, or, maybe, microwaves...). A 'proportionate response' to him might be a steamroller...

The smart way of dealing with Nazi capes? Never attack them in their area of strength... Though, 'by surprise' is always good...

It seems Taylor just clued HookWolf and his crew to to how it feels to be between a Reich and a hard place...

Boo

I will say though, i think that Emma is going to possibly be in trouble with Sophia after this, ala : "You TOLD me she was weak. how the hell did you miss her being able to do stuff like that?" I suspect that this is the same kind of Taylor as in 'Zap Trap' as well - possibly even that same one if after this whole thing they still go ahead with the locker, Emma's whole line about stepping things up is a big indicator that it's was at least being planned... and now i have a mental image of Madison making like the NOPE Badger at the very idea.

On the other hand, TBH this also has the feel of the beginning of a story where Sophia saw that and needed new underwear - for the same reason Shalteir did, not Gladly before he had his mind blown (this is me trying to be circumspect to avoid breaking any of the anti lewdity rules.)

The problem is not Hookwolf, the problem is the breakers, she needs him to hit the power main, before the breakers.
Hit him while he's still human or......
Well, either glue him up or foam him up.
Is there any soap, that can be used for that?
Washing machine with too much soap, effect, I'm thinking, here.

It's things like this that have me going 'But what about Emma?'

Till very recently she and Taylor were inseprable and shared, if not everything a lot of things. So why does she not know of at least some of this.

My imediate thought was that she repressed it all due to trauma. The one time she could of used them, she instead froze up and was useless.
She was probably taught to keep it 'in the family' so to speak, and Emma turning on her showed her the wisdom of that course of action.

Sophia just got shoved on her face that she really doesn't register as a threat for Taylor, which will make her act even more stupidly to reassert her point of view, while Emma will try to crawl back to Taylor to try to get herself some of that training or blow a fuse and become completely unhinged once she realizes just how small she really is and how lucky she is that Taylor values restraint.

Five seconds? Do you think?

She:
-Blade-whipped Victor in the throat
-Blade-whipped mook in the face
-Kicked mook in the throat
-Blade-whipped Victor in the forehead
-Stabbed mook in the eye with a second knife

That's quite a few things to do, in diverging directions. I wouldn't say it's too many things to do in five seconds, but it seems weird to describe it as significantly too few?
The implication of the scene is a John Wick style hyperproficient normal. So if she is confident this is going to work and not just hoping this wont fail, she needs to pop the first two faster than a startle reaction (even a blind panic undirected flail from the target) can ruin her opening, the third is a natural flow from the rotation of the second, so those three should come in under the 1 second mark. She can slow down a lot for the last two, once she has a hit on each. But Victor should be the one she has the most leeway on, neck wound etc, and she goes for him first (sensible, he's still a cape) so to make sure the mook doesnt recover she needs the knife in the air within a second of the kick.

So ... yeah, for the actions as described, five seconds is a really long time.

There's a slight problem with that, and that is that Krieg's costume is literally an SS uniform with gas mask.

Well, there is always the good old solution of BOOM - its a school, so things that can go BOOM are easily found, especially in science class, so the capability to make things that go BOOM is available. if Krieg is able so survive BOOM, then not enough BOOM was used, so use more.

Great, J's playing Doom again...

Very reminiscent of BOLO Taylor, but she get the skills the harder way this time.

Kaiser pinched the bridge of his nose and counted to ten under his breath. "It was a minor theft and we lost nothing worth the effort of chasing those idiots around the city for hours," he finally replied. "Sooner or later they'll slip up and we'll get them, or someone else will, but it would look much worse if we tried and failed to catch them than if we just ignore trivial shit like that. We come off looking much stronger if we just smile knowingly and let them go…"

The thing is Max is right, his response is the smarter one, it's the boardroom response. Intelligent people who think things through even a little bit would see that as more powerful than someone lashing out at every slightly with no sense of proportion.

His problem is he was stupid enough to use Nazis as his followers and they don't think things through, they just run on knee jerk reactions to feelings. It's why he can get a pile of followers with little effort, just some empty words, but it means that they won't be happy with the smarter response, only the one that immediately makes them feel strong and right.

Nah. Play Nazi games, win Nazi prizes.

Yeah, only poor Othela as in poor teenaged girl who was sold into marriage to her dead cousin's fiance when she was a child (she's still a teenager in 2011 so even if that means 19 she was young when married to him). So I guess less "poor Othela" and more "poor Charity Herrin" (or whatever her name was).

Also, reading that Taylor learned ballet here, I remembered that the protagonist of the RideBack anime was a former ballerina.

My first thought was Cassandra (Black Bat/Orphan) from the Bat Man family.

And if there's no BOOM today there's always a BOOM tomorrow. ;p

Point is, what Emma thinks were "private ballet lessons" probably weren't just ballet.
I think you mean definitely.
(oops, the characters seem to have run away with the scene)
That means it works well.
but it means that they won't be happy with the smarter response, only the one that immediately makes them feel strong and right.
And everyone who stayed with Kaiser will be very happy with the smarter response now.

Some of the possible Krieg elimination methods:
- Laser weapon: don't have it, could get one (or more) from Coils forces, but currently not feasible
- Improvised land mine: if he's standing on an explosive, no amount of kinetic manipulation would be enough. Semi feasible, difficult to pull of.
- gas attack: he needs to breathe. Easy to create chlorine or something similar. Downside: he has a gas mask
- FOOF gas attack: would be effective even with gas mask. High possibility of collateral damage. Difficult to obtain/create
- electricity: high chance of working against all 3 targets. Methods of delivery: electrified door handle? Negative, high chance it would be avoided by kicking down the doors. Water in the hallway with added salts? Easy to arrange. Winslows electric grid - sufficient. Winslow GFCI - high likelihood of not working/not installed. Area of attack - yes. High chance of permanently neutralizing Alabaster if he's still electricuted during his reset time.

I'll probably try to think of a few more. Sorry about the formatting, typed on the phone.

For the gas mask, the only thing that prevents is getting poisoned.

A gas mask won't help if the issue you're facing is a lack of oxygen; if you manage to back Krieg into a corner, a large enough fire extinguisher that works by displacing the oxygen would work just fine on Krieg.

A problem that a handful of school cafeteria custard or rice pudding conveniently solves.

No. The difficulty is surviving it for long enough to get it from wherever you got it from to where Krieg is AND having enough of it left to use it.

Stop suggesting FOOF. It's an utterly stupid idea.

"I'm not a cape, Greg. I just grew up surrounded by some very strange people,"

Ervin used to be the manager of a hotel in New York before Behemoth attacked. Sadly The Continental was not rebuilt and much of the clientele, including Danny and Annette, departed for quieter pastures to raise young Taylor... properly.

I wouldn't say it's too many things to do in five seconds, but it seems weird to describe it as significantly too few?
Rope darts, chain whips and meteor hammers are VERY fast weapons.

Possibly a Wehrmacht-vintage one, for which it's probably rather difficult to find replacement filters. It's entirely possible the thing's basically just glorified cosplay gear. And even if it's still in full working order there are probably some gases it won't do much against, albeit ones it would be difficult to improvise out of high school lab chemicals.

In full working order and filling his lungs with asbestos with every breath.
