Silly snippet that was a scene I came up with years ago, and recalled during a recent Discord conversation...
"Taylor! What are you
doing?"
The entire crowd of students and staff surrounding the two girls turned to see Taylor's dad storming towards them. Sophia grinned unpleasantly at the taller girl. "Your dad's as much of a pussy as you are? Are you going to get in trouble for trying to fight back? Wimp."
Elbowing his way through the crowd, Taylor's dad finally made it through and stopped next to her. Taylor sighed faintly, but lowered her fists and looked at him. He didn't look happy. Sophia, on the other hand, did, and Emma was grinning oddly.
"What the
hell do you think you're doing, young woman?"
"Sophia wanted a fight. She kept pushing, so I finally decided that if she wanted one she could have one."
Her dad sighed this time. "This is that girl?"
"Yeah."
"And this is how you were going to fight her?" He grabbed her wrist and held it up, her hand still in a fist.
"Um... yeah?"
"Did your mother and I not teach you properly?"
Feeling embarrassed, Taylor shot a glance at her erstwhile opponent and cronies, who were looking highly amused. "Dad," she hissed out of the side of her mouth. "You're ruining it."
All of Sophia's hanger's on gave her an odd look, while her dad rubbed his eyes tiredly. "Oh, god, not that again. If you're going to break this girl, just
break her, don't
play with her. Not like last time. Thumb on the outside of the fist like this, you know that. We taught you this when you were
six. Stop showing off. Just get it done and move on. We're already late for the DWU dinner as it is."
"Oh, fine, if you insist." Taylor turned back to Sophia, who was looking very confused now and somewhat worried. Her entire demeanor and stance changed, making the girl take a step back. Raising her hands again, Taylor grinned slowly. "Come get some if you think you're hard enough."

It turned out Sophia was
not, in fact, hard enough.

The badly damaged groaning figure on the ground was being gaped at by Emma and her clique, while around them in the crowd a lot of bets were being paid. A bystander would have noticed that the pay
ers were entirely from outside the Docks, and the pay
ees were entirely from
inside the Docks.
"What… what the fuck just
happened?" Madison stammered as she watched Taylor get into the car with her dad, having walked off with him through a crowd that parted like she was a remarkably vicious Moses.
"You idiots really didn't know about Hebert?" One of the Empire wannabes standing close enough to overhear looked at her like she was a trifle simple. "I guess that would explain why you three and those other bitches were doing what you were doing. No idea why she didn't sort you all out the first time, but I guess she didn't want to cause trouble."
She stared at him, then Emma, then Sophia who was making bubbling sounds through the mask of blood from the broken nose she'd acquired with one punch too fast to see. The broken arm, dislocated leg, and missing hair had come from a sequence of other blows administered with a grace and precision that had given the impression of a particularly dangerous form of ballet. Madison was fairly sure she'd heard at least one rib break too…
"What are you talking about?" she asked faintly.
"Hebert is the current bare knuckle champion in the DWU youth division fight club," he explained like he was telling someone something so basic he couldn't understand how they didn't already know. "She's won the last dozen bouts in minutes. Fuck only knows how many different martial arts she's learned. Has a real talent for it and those crazy dockworkers have more experts in fighting than you'd believe. No one will go up against her any more, unless it's three on one, and the last time she won
that one too. Kicked the fucking
shit out of all three of them. You
really don't want to get her dander up, because she's like her dad that way, once she's mad she makes you pay."
Gaping at him, then Sophia, Madison finally whirled on Emma who was looking thunderstruck. "What the hell, Emma? You didn't
know that? You had us bullying someone who could do
that?" She pointed at Sophia, who was now being attended to by the school nurse, who oddly enough appeared to be trying to hide a strange sort of smirk.
Emma met her eyes, then looked at Sophia too in a somewhat lost manner. "I thought she was just clumsy, the times she turned up with a black eye or bandaged hands," the red-head murmured in a shocked voice. "She always said she'd had an accident or something…"
The would-be gang member chuckled, then shook his head. "Everyone knows she's kind of shy when she's outside the ring. Guess she just had enough this time." Then he left, counting his winnings. Madison tried to calm her stomach and wondered how long it took for Taylor's temper to subside…
Would the weekend be enough, or should she start running now before it was too late?
