If she really tried she could better than considerably

I'm a bit concerned... that Taylor is using Borg (from Star Trek) references, and Pinky & The Brain ones...

However, she has established the 'BugCave', and saved the fair maiden (Vista/Missy) from the terrible monster (Hookwolf/Brad), which should do a lot for her popularity. Except with Nazis. Who will be working on their Hornet-o-phobia.

Adding a starfish to her 'biological distinctiveness' is really looking like a good idea... And, yes, cuttlefish invisibility does sound good...

Personally I think the box jellyfish... sounds a little... excessive. Unless she can come up with a paralytic that just affects the voluntary nervous system, as a poison-substitute. One that stops hearts rather misses the point...

Hmm. Insects in medicine can be a fun subject. (Honey) Bees seem to have much of the good stuff - I might speculate what honey, or more drastically royal jelly, made by Taylor would do for people... I could see the honey doing healing...

...

I wonder if Kenta can find a helpful entomologist among the Asian community?

adding it her biological distinctiveness
Taylor: "We are the Sects. Surrender immediately. We will add your biological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance will bring all the bees."

To have a proper comparison, Peter Parker has the proportional strength of a spider, that is about 120–170 times their own weight for your average spider.

Let's say you can lift over your head 50 kg. With spider strength, you can now lift 6 to 8.5 tons...

You know I think I worked it out. She can leverage the echo of Stalker's power in this fashion because QA does the exact same thing with the shards when it isn't deployed. This Taylor is essentially becoming a budget version of an Entity.

he sped up to a brisk jog and tried not to imagine a stinger the size of his forearm.

He failed. Dismally.
It's almost like whatever designed her power has an especial dislike for Lung. It's basically his nemesis.
Giant Asian man vs. Giant Asian hornet.
Holding out her arms and admiring the green glowing pseudo-tattoos she'd created on them she giggled. It looked really amazing.
Now she can draw fake runes and stuff, cool. I wonder if she wants to adopt a magical appearance, and orchestrate "spells" with bugs moving things around?
And that was with ordinary hornet venom, which, based on how the concrete was now bubbling and smoking this very much wasn't.
That's just overkill. Wait, that's not a real thing. Carry on!
Taylor wondered a little hysterically if there would even be a body left.
See? It's convenient! So problematic if you have to dispose of the bodies afterward, her power does that for her.
Could she make it less dangerous, perhaps? Or… could she make it more dangerous?
Maybe it's a good thing she doesn't have a chat...
And she was certain that the venom, aside from being horribly corrosive and a hellishly good oxidizer, was also a violently potent toxin too. She could literally feel her power agreeing happily.
REALLY hates Lung...
"Maybe Kaiser, that Nazi shithead. His armor is a lot less than two inches thick…"
Or Lung, just saying...

That would be a hilarious first battle, I gotta say. Too bad he seems to have caught logic...
"And jump back, of course. It would be embarrassing otherwise," she added, making him chuckle.
I feel there may be some reason she brings that up...
From what he'd told her over the years that sort of rumor predated actual Parahumans, for that matter. Apparently the docks area had always been a bit peculiar.
I wonder if Danny's part of the Wild Hunt here too?
a known multiple murdered racist lunatic.
*murderer
Muttering to herself and feeling her inner hornet get extremely angry
Are they ever not?
rather that slice her in half.
*than
She wasn't generally all that scared of bugs but she'd never met one so big she could ride it. And apparently tough enough that it could knock half a ton of enraged murder blender flying and show no damage.
"We're going to be best friends, you and I."
she instead looked at him and told her power, 'See? That asshole gets to keep his pants? Why don't I?' I
 This is exactly what to take from this, yes.
"A giant wasp just brought Vista in."
"In other news, I hate this city."
"Holy fuck," she said in shock. "That's a giant wasp!"

"I'm a giant hornet, thanks very much,"
Are we sure we trust her? She's supposedly a mistress of biology, and yet she can't recognize a perfectly normal giant bug.

Nah, he escalates long enough for his power to make a guitar, then he sings this before leaving.
Nah, in a fic called 'Vespa,' if someone pulls out a guitar, it should be used to hit things with. Or fly, or manipulate energy, or whatever.

Admittedly, when I first saw the first Vespa segment's title, I was hoping for a FLCL inspired Haruko!Taylor.

Look, this 'mistress of biology' bit is a lot easier if the biology doesn't answer back!

I want to know where you'd get the guy with a tv-set for a head, and the sub-teen boy with a band-aid on his forehead...
(*cough* FLCL (2000) *cough*)
((Looks like there's a wiki, too...))

...

Hmm. Has Taylor got Amy's scent?

What would Amy do if a knocking on her bedroom window turns-out to be a drider-girl flying on dragonfly wings???
"A giant wasp just brought Vista in."

Amy looked up
Taylor's got Amy's scent, now...

Lung's reaction was great lol

The fact that there was straight up dead peeps explicitly mentioned is going to be interesting. When your enemy is explicitly killing people and the author isn't just glossing it over, it's hard to simply go with "Hero's don't kill people!" and fight in a near pacifist way. And then he both tried to murder Vista, and Taylor straight risked killing him.

Taylor and Danny's behavior has been fairly light-hearted, but the dip into the Bay's darker side not so much.

Looking forward to how these times are balanced going forward. Your usual "Taylor happens to the Bay" approach but with a more DOOMed (but not) mentality Taylor sounds fun.

The next things Taylor should check are:
  1. If she is immune to her own venom(s), either injected or sprayed and
  2. Do any of them dissolve containment foam?
Anyway, this seems like it has legs so I hope it gets hived off into its own thread soon.

Edit: also I love how the hospital team were very clearly emoting "panacea, parahuman bullshit is happening; you're a parahuman, you deal with it."

Wonder if Lung has mental versions of the Fedora Lady and the Giant Hornet fighting in his head and he is not sure who to root for

Piggot's issue is with biotinkers or bio manipulators, not changers. Since Taylor was talking in hornet form, biotinker isn't really going to be their first guess, changer is much more likely.

Enjoying the story so far.
you forget, as soon as there's evidence that she can combine them and leave them combined as well as make them grow.... all of which have been shown in the story so far just not in public.

Keep in mind that your typical wasp & hornet spray is a Nerve Agent. I got a little concerned when the immediate treatment listed on the back of the can was an Atropine injection, which is the typical preventive regime to keep you from dying from things like VX and Sarin.

You get enough of it in the right spot, it will work on anyone. Except maybe Panacea. Do Not Use nerve agents on Panacea, it never ends well.

But they aren't part of her body, regardless of makeup. Which is the entire problem. I doubt it would matter the origin of the materials used in clothing, it's still a confining garment that is not part of Taylor's body. It's not her skin or hair, it's an article of clothing.
Well, there are insects out there with carapaces that mimic things like leaves, bark, and flowers, so I could see her arguing her power into making something that superficially resembles "normal" clothing. (It worked for the Mimic bugs in that one movie series, at least for casual perusal in nighttime conditions.)

And Lung may feel simultaneously reassured and concerned that the massive Asian hornet he saw was a parahuman, not just a hornet in a fleet.
That's not an assumption anyone familiar with AGH would be making. If there's one, there will be more waiting in the wings. (I'm not sure Taylor's even aware that the PRT frowns on potential self-replicating minions yet.)
"Not that they self-replicate, I make every one myself!"

"Oh God, she's a fertile Queen...."

Yeah, that'll only fly until she pops out in a completely different configuration somewhere for reasons.

At least 16 in most states and she needs a driver's license (car or moped). Also, the Vespa can't have more than 50cc.

Probably not worth the trouble unless you have a lot of time and money to spare, otherwise waiting until you're 18 and getting a proper vehicle would be more beneficial.
Except there are at least two, possibly three Tinkers in the area that she might be able to work a deal with to upgrade her ride. (And probably push it into a completely different set of license requirements at the same time.) Besides, can't you see the chaos if Vespa shows up at the DMV to do the paperwork for her license? It would be the only time that someone gets fast-tracked through the lines.

It gets even worse when combined with the Stinger. Just spraying The Chemical is bad enough. The Stinger is basically a pile bunker that can punch through metal and then deliver the chemical payload into the internals of whatever it stung.

Being in a tank can't save you from Vespa. Brutes tend to be more durable on the outside rather than their insides. Even being in a bunker won't help do more than delay Vespa if she starts Bruting her way through doors.

Don't let her get her hands on a Red Widow spider and its venom. If a Red Widow bites you, you will be in pain for the rest of your life because of that bite. Like it's cousin the Black Widow (not the hot redhead), its venom won't kill you, but with the Red one, it damages the nerves such that you will have pain for the rest of your days.

Perhaps I should clarify - I was referring to the typical cans of Wasp and Hornet spray available on the market that have a range of 20-30 feet and near instant lethality for wasps and hornets, that lingers long enough on nests it will kill off the nest in a short amount of time.

As I've been stung by wasps and hornets numerous times, I don't want to piss off a whole nest of them.

VespaTaylor? Not going to get her attention. I don't want to get sprayed, injected or skewered with a toxin whose concentration has been upped to the "Fuck, NO!" ranges of lethality. And if I am, I'm going to get Naurelin or Taylornaut to do it (one is a dragon, favored of Tiamat and is immune via shenanigans; the other has got the power set of the Juggernaut, and a little thing like corrosive, oxidizing venom isn't going going to stop her...).
