[X]Plan: Something for Everybody

Looks good.

Could we explore the Riddick universe some more, tho? Keep Vin on his Horror role, but maybe do a Rogue One style movie? Expand the franchise's universe and all?

Sci Fi Horror is a criminally underutilized genre.

We can cherry pick ideas from later released horror stories and blend them up. I'm thinking about Dead Space, It Follows, and maybe some memetic virus (say what you want about 'The Bye Bye Man', the idea of a creature that's spread by knowing about it is legit).

Like there's so much that could be done while still feeling like a proper sequel to Pitch Black.

Seems like a cool idea to me though remember that at this point in time it isn't that much of a franchise yet (I mean the first movie was solid but nothing revolutionary) so we are probably better of building it up a bit more before we decide to branch out. I also think it is important to consider that SciFi/horror is probably one of the cheaper SciFi genres to produce in and that for example a Space Opera approach might be quite a a bit more costly and thus risky.

True, but it is also a genre with I think a relatively limited fanbase with especially the horror part limiting your viewerbase quite significantly. I mean if you look at past successes you will see that SciFi Horror is one of the less profitable genres with only a few truly big hits.

[] Look into Texas Television - You have to admit, this idea of Robert's has some potential, if only as a side-business. Having your own television channel where you can distribute your movies and films could be good, but you're not ready to throw yourself in without examining the necessary groundwork.
[] Chronicles of Narnia I (2004) - You bought yourself a fantasy film license, so you might as well do something with it. You've got the book to start you off, but you still need a script adaption which needs a writer (Philippa Boyens).
[] Riddick Development I (2004) - Striking while the iron is hot with Vin is key. The only question is whether or not you get the original director David Twohy and co-writers the Wheat Brothers back or if you get someone else for those jobs (David Twohy/Wheat Brothers). As a sequel as well, you also need to dictate what genre/sub-genre it should be (SciFi/Western)
[] Search for Sci Fi IPs - You need more recognizable brands to mine, and you've set your mind on finding the best. Your research team isn't the best, but you'll make do with what you can.Note: Will roll a 1d100.
[] Nose to the Grind (USA) - Eh, you've got enough things to worry about, without taking a vacation. You need to keep on top of your people! (Add +5 to all rolls required as a result).

Serenity comes out in 2005 so I'd like to scout it out. The Western aspect of Riddick is to play to our strengths as best we can for those positive modifiers. Open to alternate suggestions (people suggested del Toro directing the project in Rolz, which could be a cool thing to try for).

Horror is broadly speaking one of the more risky genres to splice into stuff. It makes the critics go wild, but a good number of the audience just isn't going to be very comfortable with it even if they would like the rest of the setting. And it's easy to go overboard one way or another from horrifying to silly.

Personally that means it makes very good lower budget niche films, but not good for a mainline thread.

Maybe instead of horrifying, make it a more macabre sort of horror? Like, say, Penny Dreadful.

We hire a really, really good writer to fill out the lore, and the horror aspect comes through the sheer bizarre and macabre aspects of said lore.

I am voting for these because it is the only plan to visit his brother. As a Mexican family is important and it has been years.

[] Hire Casting Experts - You're growing at a remarkable rate, but you're still pretty unaware of a lot of great young acting talent that you could be making use of in your films. Maybe you should rectify that? Note: Adds +5 to related rolls.

Texas TV has potential. See if we can get del Toro for Narnia. I think Sci-Fi/Western will attract more people than Sci-Fi/Horror for Riddick. Get better actors. Ensure everything goes smoothly.

I think it's past the time we visited Matanza.

I seem to remember that I while back something about Vin Diesel wanting to branch out. Is that not longer valid or will there some risk of having a unhappy star(well even more unhappy given how the sequel turned out) if Riddick or Fast 3 development goes ahead?
