Omake: Saga of the Siege Slime (rkyeun)

    Am being Seige Slime. Am name is Hardball. Am being tall wide heavy thin now. Am being excited and thank you for give food to. Am not happy with loud and fast of food. Food is being lead is sweet and heavy and soft. Heavy good, soft bad. Move heavy to middle. Move strong iron to skin from middle.
    Am help thinky squid meat slime with bones in middle. Llith. Am help flower slime what spit up girl. Alraune is call. Is good. Hardball and Alraune being without brain. Llith no hurts to think at. Hardball and Llith being without red blood. Alraune no wants drink. No smells Alraune to be control.
    Am being wide and tall and thin. Am being wall, Llith says. Is good thing to be now. Am trying to share tasty lead, but says is bad, to take all for Hardball. Llith and Alraune leak blue and green and get mad when Hardball is bad at being wall.
    Is waiting to be tell how way to go. Hand on wall when say hardball means through. Am leaning on wall. Wall is being cement. Not tasty. Moving iron skin is being lodestone. Lodestone is pulling to wall Delicious iron is in cement! Wall is heavy. Am being heavier at it. Is how Seige Slime does to each other. Be bigger, be heavier, wrap all around. Then can take all good food from and leave bad food with and make give slime eggs into.
    Am now pushing wall over to make give iron. Almost am giving slime egg to but wall is not slime so am not.
    Am hear scream and being ball now. Lots of blue and green on floor. Biggest meat slime ever outside. Holds metal stick pointing at while says stop. Am stop, but because Llith say meat slime will "play hardball". Get excited. Biggest meat slime has food, and is biggest, so should give strong egg if win, or make many eggs if lose.
    "Play hardball" is special trick. Am make heavy middle spin inside fast and fast. Am grab ground in iron spikes. Biggest meat slime look scared. Try to make friend by feed more metal from stick. Am being happy. Am throw spinny heavy metal from middle to hit spike. Am break the ground. Am now fly at biggest meat slime. Am high in air. Am now more spikes.
    Llith and Alraune being asleep. Being bad place and time to sleep. Too many holes in skin. Should have eated more iron before sleeping. Slowly am thinking not sleeping. Am slowly being sad and scaredest. Am stop to be all the spikes. Am sad and scared and not want eggs even of biggest meat slime.

    Am being smallest heaviest hardest ball forever now, until scareds and sads stop.

    edit: Random thought I had while on night shift and I can't find the old worldbuilding thread. I could see the US deciding to to something like the host program with the initial idea being to help get data to make laws to help integrate liminal into society while dealing with things like how you can't reasonable expect everyone to make things work for say... a giantess.. (or get mad at someone for telling a Lamia they can't hire her since she literally won't fit in the kitchen) since trying to deny liminal freedom of movement and the like once they go public would be a *very* slippery slope. Their wholly sapient species..s(???) afterall.

    Basically the host program is giving the US government the info it needs to answer: "ok Snake girls are a thing... how the HELL do they use the bus system??"

    As for the liminal's home turf the US actually has a legal framework it could use via something like Indian reservations which actually have wholly separate laws (hence most well known their ability to do Casinos). You use that as a basis, at least in the US, to integrate the various native liminal groups into state and national political systems. Since I assume the liminal just stayed out of the way outside of crazy stories until humans spread out too much and they decided to bite the bullet and integrate.

    Does little to help the day to day social aspects of it (See the HOA board) but I think legally the US could not get away with anything less then full rights to liminal given they are for all practical purposes citizens born in US territory. (which was likely one of the articles in the treaty/deal they made)

    Edit: Though I now have the amused image of an archane teaching middle school english or something.

    Here's my thinking for this: Penny's hearing allows us to potentially get intel from a distance, and her apparent stealth will also help on that front. She and Lobo both have fighting experience. Penny can rush someone- which in a time-sensitive situation could be essential- and Lobo's background makes it clear he's competent in a fight with multiple members on both sides. Lobo's nose also helps us out with recon. Penny seems best suited for one-on-one confrontations, while Lobo's probably tough enough take on a few targets at once, so together they should be capable of fighting off most opposition. Geldas, I'll admit, is tactically awkward- stealth, for one thing, is not her forte by any stretch of the imagination, so she'll have to keep out of sight during such operations until things start going. However, the sheer size of her strides mean that she's also going to be a pretty quick mover, and will be able to carry team members into a fight and civilians out of one easily (assuming the enemy doesn't just surrender or run away when they see her charging towards them). Also, just by sitting down she can shelter a large group of people from incoming fire, and her strength means she'd be able to tear a hole in pretty much any wall. Mason is apparently also really tough, which makes up for his lack-luster combat skills, and can easily resolve potentially violent hostage situations or the like, where Penny and Lobo can't fight their way through without risking civilian casualties, or when they're otherwise overwhelmed. Finally, the generally pleasant personalities mean that they should all hopefully be able to get along fairly well.

    I was tempted to vote with Lobo instead of Morvand, but learning that he's a complete professional and reliable like Clyde made me change my mind. I'm slightly worried about voting for Teshuma, since kitsunes are kind of infamous for being tricksters, but that's a slightly unfair bias and she is a nine tailed kitsune at that. Knowing that Midas works well in a team, his own issues with authority not withstanding, also convinced me to vote for him.

    As for Mason... None of the supports really stood out to me and I figured having our own Groot on the team would be good back-up.

    Edit: Are we voting for the individual members or the entire team composition?

    Still working my way up. Gotta admit that it's been a while since I added a new quest on my watched list and participated in it. I've been really enjoying the story so far, and everyone - including the Homeowners' Association council (and having them as allies/antagonists is certainly new for me) - had quite a real feel to them, that they're like actual people you can meet.

    Except Honey, but considering she literally has an alien mindset....

    I guess my only specific quibble is that Chiyori feels just a slight bit sue-ish/unrealistic at times (like she's a world-class vet focusing on exotic animals, could pass as a three-star chef, a yuge Video game and Tabletop nerd, plays eleven instruments, and still had enough time to say "eh, I guess I can take care of four liminals under my roof". Where the Christ do you get the time, woman?!)

    Short version? She doesn't sleep and has no social life. Her life has been depressingly empty up to this point.
