The weird thing is, Chiyori might actually consider it. She's lived alone for a while, so lately wine and a candlelight dinner has just been a nice way to unwind after a rough day.

She'd probably make the connection before she went through with it though: she's asexual, not culturally oblivious, and she has dated in the past. Romance is something she understands and is all for: she'd love a romantic dinner with expensive wine, decadent desserts, slow dancing, and a special someone. It's what comes afterward that she's not really interested in.

I've never really understood how people equate the two. I mean, Polygamy seems positively tame by comparison, even when it isn't just an extension on Polyamory.

I know I don't personally consider it so, but would it be legally considered bestiality for Chiyori to form a relationship with her new housemates? I'm inclined to think not, given they're patently sapient, but American law baffles me at the best of times.

That is actually the joke: the two aren't related at all, and romantic relationships with a liminal wouldn't be bestiality anyway.

...but some people needed a reason to keep same-sex marriage illegal other than 'the Bible says so', and the idea that it would open the doors to us all marrying our goat harems was what they picked.

These sorts of people are unlikely to see much distinction between a liminal and a animal when it comes to the idea of them hopping into bed with their pure, virginal, daughters. (insert sarcasm as needed)

If African Americans are still seen as rapine beasts to some, imagine what they will think of the literal beasts now popping up.

Legally sex with a liminal is not bestiality, but it is grounds for immediate deportation of the liminal and the arrest of the human. As in the original, this is for their 'protection'.

I've seen comments on FtM transexuals using the male toilets threatening the virtue of their boys too on the Reuters FB feed. It's far from rare.

Aw, I thought that was only when it involved host and exchange guests, since it would be an abuse of power, not random people. :(

It is. We get to see several liminal/human couples in the manga, none of whom are in any sort of legal trouble for their relationships. Though whether this is because Smith and those like her don't know about them, don't care about them, or if they're part of the same 'test case' clause as Darling is never explained.

Unfortunately so.

My personal favorites are the morons who claim kids are going to start faking it so they can get into the facilities of the opposite sex (ex: a boy pretending to be MtF to get into the girl's locker room). School is shitty enough for people who don't fit in, and to this day being openly transgender can get you killed. Kids have more than enough ways of seeing naked people these days, none of which risk being literally beaten half to death in the parking lot.

It's vague, but the first chapter of the manga definitely seems to group the 'no sex' rule in with the 'do no harm' rule. It really could go either way, but it's more interesting for the Quest if we keep it at 'humans can't have sex with liminals under any circumstances'. The United States has a very colorful history with its outgroups, and I've been modeling liminal introduction/relations after both the Civil Rights movement and the US's recent LGBTQ+ struggles.

PS: Happy Halloween everyone! I'd post the Jack-O-Lantern picture from Monster Musume online, but frankly it sucks. Seriously, it's just a girl with a pumpkin hat and a staff. The characters for that game are such a disappointment...:(

What's worse are the parents using this. In a case I read, somebody basically used his grandson as a prop in his beliefs by having the boy basically try to go in the women's restroom and be all like, "If he (misgendering) is allowed to, why not any boy at all? It's clearly a horrible policy and so stop it now."

The sad thing is it sorta worked, in the sense that eventually they sued the school and moved away.
