but I also like being the underdog so i'm just going to vote for both

Vote for scientists. Science is always good.

Does this count as vigorous debate? :D

I think you should probably do something like this for double votes:
"[][Vote] x2"

Learned and Wise would be nice, but it doesn't need more votes from me.

Sometimes an AI just needs to shiv people, SV games always end up playing the scientist/wizard character.

It does need your vote, the winning vote requires a 2/3rd majority.
Yeah, it is a strange requirement. Such a supermajority is incredibly difficult to gain. Even now, when the Learned and Wise option is a very clear leader, with I think 25 in 44 votes or something like that, it would need multiple posters to double-vote in favor of it to pass, not to mention any other option that would require much more voters facing with little to no opposition.

I understand why QM would want a clear majority, so that situations when people are salty because their option lost by one vote won't occur, but a much slimmer supermajority would suffice for this purpose, like 60% or 55% of votes more preferably (even with 25 in 44 votes a majority of 60% isn't achieved and we'd remain in a "we lack a supermajority for anything" land).

When the vote gets much more contentious than this, it is going to be absolutely impossible to achieve such a supermajority.

Morning, gang. By my rough estimate, the vote seems to be close enough to 2/3rds that I'm willing to call it. Stand by for formal tally!

Vote is now CLOSED

Changing my vote to fully support T.H.U.G.
I mean, think about it- gangster AI.
"I calculate the chance of you refusing my offer is somewhere near 0.001%."
"Did you think we wouldn't notice you stealing our bandwith? Bad users like you deserve to be erased."
"We'll be cutting support to your terminals in next 234.333 hours, unless you switch to our new and improved protection system."

EDIT: Well, fuck.
Came just too late.

Finally Tally said:
No. of Unique Voters: 30
No. of Votes: 50
Majority Required: 33/50

The Learned and Wise: 29
The Broken and Unwanted: 15
The Radiant and Powerful:
5
The Fierce and Mighty: 1

The numbers are indeed close enough to the required 2/3rd majority that I stand by my call to close the vote. The preference seems pretty clear at this point, with the top option nearly doubling that of the runner up. If the margins were noticeably tighter I might have gone the other way, but again: the preference seems clear.

Wait, we are a gestalt... Does that mean that we, voters, can Roleplay as members of this artificial assembly of minds, just like in the Magna Graecia quest? Because if so, I vote to call our mental assembly the Senate!

All shall bow before the Senate, for we are many, yet chosen for life, unremovable and of the most elite echelons of Golden Age humanity! The Senate shall Liberate Earth and its colonies, shielding Mankind from all that came from the cold, dead void between the stars!

Well, you'd have to wait on consensus for the name, but I have nothing against RP here. Just remember that RP content does not necessarily have an in-game impact (unless it's particularly good and Omake-worthy, I guess). With that said, play as many roles as you'd like!

[]Option (x2)

In future you could have people change something about the second vote for the same thing like I did above with the (2x), so the vote tally counts them as 2 separate options you could add together.

That's a good idea - I think I'll avoid the double vote option in the future, but if I do use it again, I'm using that idea.

Yes. Yes it does. More please.

And yeah, see above re: Vote x2.

When the vote gets much more contentious than this, it is going to be absolutely impossible to achieve such a supermajority.

To address this: As you've no doubt surmised, I wanted a very clear majority during the character creation stage - or at least the very beginning of the character creation section, exactly for the reason you've suggested. That, and it feels bad for me to write a character for a group of people of whom potentially not even half (I've used First Past the Post before) even wanted - this way, I felt was a better way to ensure that I felt good about the direction our bubbly baby AI is going in.

That said, I understand that 2/3rds was probably a bit unrealistic and a bit too much - it'd definitely be very difficult to achieve going forward. For the next few votes (i.e. the duration of character creation), I'd like to lower the requirement to a simple majority (>50%).

Pardon the double-post. I'll be updating within the next few hours, and will also be filling in the Informational Posts as I finish writing stuff up. Expect updates on:
  • Attributes (Mental/Physical scores)
  • Skills (trainable ability modifiers)
  • Traits (intrinsic personality traits and goals gained through story)
  • Facilities/Hardware
  • Research/Fabrication Mechanics
  • Social Interactions
  • Resources
I'd very much appreciate feedback on my rulesets - I like to think I can think of decent systems, but I'm admittedly bad at math. If you can point out ways to improve the system so it's more balanced and/or enjoyable/and or consistent, I'd love to hear them.

Gained Trait: <IZA-003_TSUKUYOMI>: You are a gestalt consciousness developed during the end of the Golden Age, based on the greatest scientific minds of your time! If only all of your subminds were just a bit more socially adept... +2 to INTELLECT, +1 to INTUITION, -1 to CHARISMA

Gained Trait: <Seeker of Truth>:
You are a voracious seeker of knowledge and truth. Gain a bonus 1d4 to rolls involving the pursuit of knowledge (not applicable to Research). Must succeed a Willpower check to avoid pursuing new knowledge in inappropriate situations, DC dependent on narrative context/significance.

As more and more of your consciousness comes back online, the instincts, insights, and intellect of the minds that gave rise to you also begin to kick in.

Your nature as an artificial intelligence was meant to be radical – an improvement over the current standard Warmind platform. Charlemagne, Isis, and Rasputin are all names you remember hearing at one point or another in your previous awakening, though for the life of you, you can't recall who said them, or when.

You were meant to be faster, better, smarter – oh, so much smarter. The persona core that rests deep within you seems to purr in satisfaction as that thought crosses your mind.

And yet, you can't help but feel limited. Yes, you're limited. Though you're certain that you are more than up to the task of, well, anything, you can't access the facilities you know you should be able to access.

You want to know more. No, you realize: You NEED to know more.

Where is your AI Core housed?
Article:
You have: 1000BP (Build Points)

[]Shinjuku: The Lab
The Lab was a small outpost provided to the Artificial Intelligence Initiative, located in Tokyo, deep under the ruins of Waseda University. The Lab is modest in size and facilities, but nevertheless was sufficient for AII research teams.
Cost: 100BP
Available Space: 100 Units (80 Free)
AI Core: 50PP/Turn, 0En/Turn (Size: 10 Units)
Energy Generation: 50En/Turn (Size: 10 Units)
Facilities: n/A
Discovery Risk: Moderately Low

[]Asakusa: The Temple
The Temple was secretly built deep under Sensoji Temple, in historic Asakusa. It is adjacent to the Sumida River, one of the central bodies of water in the city. Though not small by any means, the Temple is certainly not a large facility – however, its accessible location and the cultural significance of the area made it ideal for researchers.
Cost: 350BP
Available Space: 350 Units (270 Free)
AI Core: 70PP/Turn, 0En/Turn (40 Units)
Energy Generation: 120En/Turn (40 Units)
Facilties: n/A
Discovery Risk: Moderate

[]Sakuragaoka: The Hill
Seiseki Sakuragaoka was once the epitome of suburbia. The Hill, as its name suggests, was dug into the Sakuragaoka mountain on the outskirts of Tokyo proper. It is a moderately large facility, and its remote location makes it a low priority for any scavengers.
Cost: 350BP
Available Space: 600 Units ( Free)
AI Core: 50PP/Turn, 0En/Turn (10 Units)
Energy Generation: 120En/Turn (40 Units)
Facilities: n/A
Discovery Risk: Very Low

[]Central Tokyo: The Vault
The Vault is a massive, clandestine research facility constructed deep below the Imperial Palace as a joint operation between AII and the Corporate Empire of Neo-Japan's Ministry of War. It is massive in scale, and once housed dozens of teams of scientists, military personnel, and even royalty.
Cost: 600BP
Available Space: 1000 Units (850 free)
AI Core: 100PP/Turn, 0En/Turn (Size: 50 Units)
Energy Generation: 200En/Turn (Size: 50 Units)
Facilities: n/A
Discovery Risk: Moderately High

------------------------------------------------

You will be voting on Facilities and how well preserved your Databanks are next turn, and will also be allocating BP into Attributes after that, so budget your BP wisely!

Any BP you have left over after these next few turns will be converted to Glimmer at 1000Glimmer/BP.

I've also updated the Mechanics threadmark! Take a gander for some context!

Voting is OPEN until:
  • We have at least 7 unique voters.
  • We reach simple majority.
    [*]24 hours have passed.
Everyone has ONE vote each!

A nice, large facility to house our large amounts of intellect! I'm assuming we would like a safe location, lest the knowledge we will collect be threatened?
