Let's Jump to It! [Jumpchain Quest]

[X] Have Eliza attempt to 'hack' the barrier.

..
. the loss of our Unison bonus based on the uh roll requirements so far is at least a tier worth of success... yikes. And we don't know how long or how hard it'll be for Eliza to hack it. But as long as Nanoha stays out we can push back Befriending to another time. Friendly reminder that just because we're gonna be friends with Nanoha does not mean we're friends with HER friends, especially if the line up right now is a matter of convenience or other-wise. I'd rather it happen in a spar with her or something. Less worries about side-effects.

So the question is, is it worth losing a tier of success to aim for escaping faster vs fighting uh these guys. That +25 is kinda needed... hmmm. OTHO we're doing good so far in the fight, would a tier less success hurt us that badly?

Also our manipulations grow stronger.

[X] Try to keep fighting it out.

Urgh poor Fate was expecting her to do better, sadly the amount of damage she take would press Nanoha berserk friendship button, still not sure about the others.

We can always remind her that she was the one to start shit this time. It's hardly as if we can be blamed for injuring Fate when it's self-defense...

In all honesty I'm not sure it'd work, but it's worth a try if it could throw her off enough that we don't end up hospitalized.

Looks like the Wolkenritter, have decided to switch-up their tactics. Vita has begun to launch a volley of her iron spheres at your position, while Zafira and Signum are attempting to flank you.

As your body moves, almost on auto-pilot, to dodge the spheres, you can't help but laugh internally. The wolf-logia you fought a little over a week ago used more than just four balls in it's attacks.

Still, it's only a fleeting thought, and soon you're charging at Signum's position.

Mistress?!
Your partner sends in shock, as you begin the seemingly suicidal maneuver.

Relax, Vivian. You attempt to reassure her. Remember what Alpine taught us: The secret to dealing with people trying to flank you is to either retreat or fight through one of them.

...Preferably before they can double-team you. She mentally says as she thinks about those lessons. Seems like she's getting the idea.

Zafira's job is barriers and defending, so charging though him seemed like a bad idea.

So we're charging into melee with the swordswoman with hundreds of years of experience?!

It's the Least-Bad option. You explain.

Whatever her response would be is cut off as you near melee range with the pink-haired Wolkenritter. Although she seems as startled as Eliza by your sudden maneuver, her years of training shine through, as she braces herself to counter your attack.

Which is just what you were hoping the proud warrior would do. "Shield!"

To her credit, as it occurs to her that you're not stopping, she attempts to roll with the blow. It's enough to save her from anything more than some proverbial scrapes,

[Signum's Health: 195/200]

But now you're free of their maneuver.

[Combat Round 2 (Offense): 51 +30(Wits/Dex) +25(Belkan Magic) +25(Unison)= 131; Req 100/120/140/160/180; Result: Level-2 Success]

You fire off some Phantom Sparks at your immediate pursuers to attempt to keep them off balance (between dodging Vita's attacks, anyway).

You almost boggle as one of them manages to catch Signum in the head as she's attempting to get her bearings.

Unfortunately, while some of them manage to get through, most are blocked or dodged.

[Zafira's Health: 195/200]
wits+social: 3+30+20= 53(minor botch!)
Also, from what you can see at this distance, the look on the sword-knight's face seems like she's annoyed at your tactics.
Eliza: 86+15+15= 116
Judging by the squawk from Eliza, she sees it too.
Fate: 92
As you ready yourself for another round of back and fourth, both you and Eliza catch Fate and Vita dashing towards with their weapons pulled back for melee attacks.

[Combat Round 2 (Defense): 29 +30(Wits/Dex) +20(Combat Training) +40(Unison + Auto-Guard)= 119; Req 120/140/160/180/200; Result: Failure]

Before you have time to plan your defense, they're on you.

Shield!

Eliza's auto-guard manages to catch fate's scythe-blade.

*Wham!*

Before a large hammer slams through your defenses.

[Vivian's Health: 145/200]

You attempt to roll with the swing as best you can, but that definitely hurt.

Unfortunately, the momentary lapse of concentration appears to be all the others needed to close into melee range, again.

As you frantically attempt to dodge, you idly notice a bright pink point of light appearing from behind them.

Crap. Looks like Nanoha has decided to get into the fight.

Not to worry, Master; as long as her allies are this close she won't risk-

And then a voice rings out across the field of battle.

"Starlight Breaker!"

All six of you look on in shock as the giant pink beam of magic Hurtles toward you.

And then your world is pain.

GM's Notes: No vote today. I should have the next part up tomorrow.

As for what just happened... well, you'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Well, at least i think we will survive getting befriended... Note for later, TRAIN more magic, we are nowhere near good enough at B rank, need to go for S...

Well, in hindsight I should've seen this coming (the friendly fire wipe everyone out attack, befriending at somepoint yes, but I had hopped we'd put it off). What comes after Penta-kill, a sextuple-kill er K.O? Wow Nanoha just got a lot of XP, no wonder she's such a strong Protagonist with all the friendly-fire she gets away with.

Yay we being befriended! A tick off the bucket list.
To be honest the knights are Nanoha's enemies.

Part because i didn't watch Nanoha, and part because i only read FFs, i'm pretty sure both Fate and the Knights would be more than willing to kill us if they believed we were a threat. Considering our lack of information, it is an actual concern barring plot armor.
Knights won't kill. They don't want to disappoint Hayate.
Fate is more of a puzzler, how is she here...

Random guess: could it have to do with the fact that we helped the TSAB bring her mother in? In that case it would've been Fate somehow bringing Nanoha and (presumably) Hayate on board, leading to this fight.

"It hasn't even been a month and now we're being ambushed again by criminals!? We haven't even finished our first vacation!" You complain out-loud to Eliza.

"I know what you mean; Just once I'd like to be able to talk things out." She complains, seemingly catching on to what you were attempting.
[Manipulation UP: C -> C+]
While the Wolkenritters' expression doesn't change much aside from tiny winces, Fate's expression darkens, and she moves to charge forward. However, it's Nanoha's reaction that catches your attention the most, as the poor girl almost drops her staff as your words register.
Fate seems to know what we might be referencing (and seems to take exception to our spin on the events) while Nanoha seems genuinely confused. This would make sense if she was brought on board under the premise that we were some villain that did nasty things to Fate's poor mother.

"-what happened." A young girl's is the first thing you hear as consciousness slowly returns to you. "Sorry again about all the trouble I've caused." She sounds really sheepish, too.

"...Okay, I think I understand why you did it." A different girl's voice this time. "I do have a question though."

You open your eyes. Not too surprised to see Nanoha talking to a girl her age in a wheelchair. Hayate, you're guessing. You appear to be lying on a couch in her living-room.

"Certainly! Ask away."

You try to sit up, only to find that all your limbs are tied behind your back.

"Where did you learn to tie people up like that?"

"Hm? Oh! My family taught me. Takamachis have a long history of being bodyguards." Ninja, really. It's implied that 'Bodyguard' is just something the business they went into when things got more civilized. "It's called 'shibari' I think."

Hayate appears to be strangely fascinated by the ropes for a few seconds, which you spend being quietly thankful that she hasn't started puberty yet, before finally noticing that you're awake. "Oh! It looks like our guest is awake."
Composure: 74+15=89
"Does it really count as being a guest if I've been kidnapped?" You ask dryly. Then a thought occurs. "Before we go any further than this, what did you do with Eliza?" You do your best not to sound too demanding.

"Is that the fairy's name?" Nanoha asks, visibly confused.

"Yes, and she's my partner; so forgive me for wanting to make sure she's okay." You think you see the wheelchair-bound girl's eyes sparkle as you say that.

"She's fine, just unconcious." Hayate answers. "Shamal is keeping her unconscious until we decide you're not a threat."

Technically, you still have your magic from your home dimension, and could probably catch the two of them by surprise. Still, no need to create trouble right now.
Int check: 76+15=91
Instead, you take a deep breath and nod your head. "Okay. I'm guessing you knew when I would show up due to hacking my itinerary." Nanoha looks startled at your deduction, but Hayate just nods. "Then can I ask 'why'?"

The two of them look at each-other before Hayate gestures to Nanoha. With a sheepish look on her face, the future White Devil begins to explain. "It all started one night when..."

From what you're able to piece together from the girls' story; after Presea was captured, the TSAB managed to scan her link to Lynith, and back-trace it to her base of operations. Presea's familiar managed to smuggle Fate to Earth before she was captured.

No sign of Fate having a familiar, by the way. Possibly something they aren't telling you, and possibly something that didn't happen due to butterflies (especially considering that Fate found Arf on Midchildia).

Fate, arrived on earth only knowing that her mother was captured and that they were coming for Lynith next. She had no money, no place to stay, and no friends or family to help her out.

You make a mental note to give the feline familiar a piece of your mind if you ever meet her; because as plans go, her's was incredibly stupid.

Thankfully, the Nanoha discovered Fate living on the street, and long-story-short, the Takamachis decided to take her in. After getting comfortable with them, Fate decided to teach Nanoha magic using Lynith's old device. Somehow, they did this close enough to where Hayate was to wake the Wolkenritter from the book. After a tense standoff that was only defused by Hayate stepping in, they made friends.

Then Fate told them as much of her story as she can from her limited knowledge.

Which made them decide to investigate what happened to Presea.

The information on Presea was highly classified by the TSAB, but information on the one who captured her was surprisingly less-so. So, after finding out that you'd be heading to Earth, they decided to hatch a plan to capture and interrogate you.

On a side note: that battle was apparently both the first incident of Nanoha 'befriending' anyone, and the first time that she's used Starlight Breaker in this timeline.

You don't know how to feel about that.

You decide to focus on the parts they're interested in.
charisma check: 93
"Okay, first of all: I don't know why they would classify it now," Except for maybe a function of your Drawbacks. "considering that it was fairly public before her arrest. Presea Testarossa disappeared almost twenty-five years ago when one of the experiments she was working on went critical. Her only daughter Alicia was killed in the fallout. By all accounts since then, the woman started acting violently and erratically and was suspected to be mentally unwell. At the time of our battle, she was wanted in Bureau-controlled space for assault, robbery, sabotage, and even a few counts of manslaughter; and was in the process of fighting several TSAB agents." You explain. "Also, she was using a jamming spell that was nearly identical to ones used by a number of Lost-Logia that have been appearing on Midchilda over the past months, which if nothing else is highly suspicious."

The two of them are silent for a moment. "That..." Nanoha tries before trailing off.

Hayate starts as something seems to occur to her. "Wait a moment, didn't Fate say that she used to be called 'Alicia'?"

Nanoha just looks confused. "But that's impossible; she's our age!"

The two of them turn to look at you.

What will you do?

GM's Notes: Ugh, this chapter. Some parts flew onto the page, other parts fought me the whole way.

Poor Arf, think its too late?
We could offer theories and take Midchilda hopefully find Arf along the way.

Shibari. Heh. I feel like we should make a quip about that just to tease.

[X] Offer suggestions
-[X] Well, rumours of her death may be a bit exagerated if what you said about Fate is true, so perhaps she was in a magical stasis or something like that? Or perhaps she created a new body and switched her daughter into it?
