I'm not complaining. But I feel like you are underestimating how uncommon it is to have people from different families marry into different clans than their home clan.
Can I get a note about whatever the original family is?

First is a Doji , second is a Agasha and so the only inter clan marriage and third is a Kakita. The Illness that is alluded to with her is based on epilepsy being more common among the Crane and her missinterpreting her being dazed and having a blackout sometimes.

The Sword Emperor.

Iweko VII, was born as Iweko Akio, the fourth son of his father Iweko VI and mother Iweko no Mirumoto Hajiko. A healthy boy he always was somewhat more focused than his siblings. As a measure of favour for his beloved wife, Iweko VI sent his son to learn at the famed Iron Mountain Dojo without the usual political jockeying that accompanied training the Imperial Heirs.

Akio proved gifted if somewhat socially awkward student, who none the less seemed set to become a great swordsman and duellist in the service of his elder siblings, a fate that was as good as he could expect.

Fate had other plans, as Akio returned home from Shiro Mirumoto to Toshi Ranbo disaster struck his family. In a single night of blood and violence, the Iweko dynasty was reduced to just two people. The young untried Akio and the even younger Shin who was safely off the main land in Mantis lands.

Holding back his tears and grief, Akio dutifully ascended the throne and became Iweko VII. Once there he began a witch hunt to find out who had killed his family, many nascent corruptions were found and dispatched in this hunt, but only a single scrap of black cloth with a silver wolf on it was ever found of the assassins.

Then the Yodotai struck from the west. Under their Emperor Justinius, they had conquered everything west of the Khol wall and north of the Spine of the World. Rokugan was then their natural expansion point. The Army of the Western Eagle marched with 500,000 men against the Khol wall and the Unicorn.

The results were predictable, the Unicorn armies sent reeling north, south and east as the Yodotai barrelled through their cavalry with military grit and precision.

Iweko VII forced himself from his hunt, and directed his empire to fight the Yodotai step by bloody step if they had to. He in the meanwhile went to the Imperial Legions who had decayed from the mighty Legions of the Toturi into little more than a political show pony, Iweko VII would have none of that.

As the Lion roared and died in countless thousands against the Yodotai
The Imperial Legions trained.

As the Dragon and Phoenix revealed mystic power and secrets against the Yodotai
The Imperial Legions trained.

As the Crane and Scorpion revealed their mastery of guerilla tactics against the Yodotai
The Imperial Legions trained.

As the Crab and Mantis desperately sent every ship and tetsubo they could spare against they Yodotai
The Imperial Legions trained.

Yet none of it was enough. The Lion fell like their old rivals under the powerful discipline of the Yodotai. The Phoenix and Dragon found their mystic secrets stymied by the ancestral protection of the Yodotai. The Crane and Scorpion found that they were matched in guile by the Umbra Lupurum the Shadow Wolves, who had already entered the land and assassinated the last Emperor.

None of it was enough.
So untested and unready, Iweko VII took the Imperial daisho and led his legions into battle, coining his personal motto.
"For the future, I will cut my way forward."

Justinius had never prepared for the fury of Iweko VII nor the divine spark that flowed through his veins not seen since Iweko I. Shining like the sun and the moon Iweko VII led his army into the Yodotai lines just outside of Toshi Ranbo.

Seeing his chance to dispatch the Rokugani once and for all, Justinius rode to meet Iweko VII on the field of battle. Justinius did not ride back, his fall signalling the turning of the tide. The Yodotai broke and ran as Iweko VII tore into their upper leadership and his soldiers tore into theirs with a fanatical devotion.

It would take six more battles from the Battle of the Emperor's Grace to drive the Yodotai out of Rokugan. Yet, by the end of it the Yodotai had been shattered as an empire, their greatest force all but destroyed, their emperor dead, and revolts everywhere.

Yet all this did not please Iweko VII.
Turning his eyes outward he saw a world leaving the Emerald Empire behind, and was determined to not let it be so.

Through sheer will he would wrench the Empire into the future and make it greater than the other realms again.

His first act was to found the Seven Shield Cities, one of which Shiro Enishi would prove to be very important as a certain ronin by the name of Megumi prepares to make her mark.

How much of that is true?
All of it, I believe. It came from canon.
Canon is only up to Iweko II which means that this is what happend afterwards in Gmans version, or in one of the imperial history alternate setting I can't remember these at the moment.
And well even if it is not true, if the crane say it has happend that way, and the courts say so. Well then it is true even if reality was different.

[X]Snow on Obsidian.

Skilled in a fight, not too bright.

Works. How else did she end up in bed with the wrong man?

So far we have

Scia Prime Sheet (And yes you still would be haunted)
Kakita Boom Sheet
Obsidian on Snow Sheet (I'm totally okay with the picture included being Megumi)
While these are all lovely. I would like to have more, or at least votes from them.

I'm going to put up the general run down on your former Clan for today's update due to lack of votes.

It is the year 1423 of the Isawa Calender and the Crane are in crisis.
Oh to all outward appearances they are as strong as they have ever been. The venerable Kakita Yukimaru still stands as the Emperor's right hand, and Iweko no Doji Masako has hopefully begun the old tradition of the Emperor marrying a Crane Bride once again. Their wealth has mostly recovered from the chaotic war against the gaijin, and although their numbers are not what they were, they still remain potent in court. They alone of the Clans were permitted to claim a single one of the Shield Cities as their own personal fief. The vassal family of the Tsunatji of the Daidoji coming into existence to help govern it. To the outside eye the Crane have not been this strong since the heady days of the Hantei during the thousand years of peace.

Yet this superficial strength masks an inherent weakness. The Crane have cast themselves irrevocably against the Imperial Reforms. Which in turn means every day is a careful balancing act between keeping Iweko VII at bay from tearing down more beloved traditions and not being cast out. To this end Empress Masako is valuable, but even her hand is weakened as her beloved and only daughter, the Imperial Heir disappeared five years ago. It is only the true love that Emperor and Empress have for each other that holds him back from discarding her for another more fertile bride. A love tested every time the Crane subtly attempt to check the Emperor's will.

Why would they oppose the Son of Heaven? Because they genuinely see his actions as harmful to the Empire. They cannot stop him or over throw him, but they can check him. Keep the castes alive, keep the traditional art of duelling and testimony alive. But for every tradition protected another is lost. The Gaijin proclaimed to have souls and thus treated as people, samurai being assaulted in the night and killed only for the people to say nothing happened. The Crane have long protected the heart of Rokugan, and now they work tirelessly still to do so. To prevent the merchants from buying great amounts of weapons and forming revolts against the Emperor's high taxes. To stop the Lion from losing their mind and revolting against the throne to save their place. All of it for the Empire.

Doji Nagamasa, the new Crane Champion watches with worried eyes as he struggles to keep the plates spinning just a little longer, before the forces of history devour the Crane like a hungry wolf.

Kakita Yukimaru with heavy heart steps forward every day to serve his Emperor as he must, while knowing that he agrees with nothing that his old friend says.

Iweko Masako quietly looks over the gardens and wonders if this is the end of the Crane.

However, to the Crane on the ground while there are problems as always life has never been better.
Or perhaps, they too wish to ignore a future that they have no idea how to prepare for.

That...yeah that was--- an experience you admit. Which lead to you leaving the Crane lands and heading East, past the Unicorn into the Hinterlands and the Shield Cities.
Aren't the Unicorn lands to the west of Crane lands?

[] A duel gone wrong; your daimyo cast you out rather than give you permission to seppukku. It was the only way to show how much that you were being punished. The guilt of cutting down your friend in his prime weighs at your soul.

[] You didn't mean to sleep with the daimyo's spouse, okay you did, but you didn't mean to get caught. But that's always been the way, your wants leading you into trouble. As punishment for your sins you were banished from the Crane and stripped of your name. But even now you aren't sure if it wasn't worth it. The familiar ardour grows within you.

[] For any samurai ,to stand in battle is supposed to be a great honour, glory, but for you...you ran, the charge of the Matsu broke you--- when you had loudly sworn that you would not break. But their roars, and your weakness led to you being forced to make good your words and give up your name. Painful shame still stabs at your heart from within.
Regret, desire, and fear? The Three Sins? Please don't throw a Shuten Doji at us. :p

Hmm, I did get the L5R Character Manager recently. Let's see if I can come up with a build real quick.

gman in fact is crippled by rl geography conditioning him to associate going anywhere from a coast as going east. But good catch on both of them.

[X] Yes
[X] Option 1

I'm a complete newbie to the lores of L5R, but I have been interested about this setting, so I'll start posting my votes.

Alright, hopefully this is fine. Basically a courtly bushi build, with Commerce and maybe Hunting being picked up after becoming a ronin to help with no longer having clan support.

Lecherous Courtly Bushi!

Name: Megumi
Clan: None (former Crane)
Family: Kakita [+1 Agility]
School: Kakita Bushi 1 [+1 Reflexes]

Insight: 144
Insight Rank: 1
Experience: 52

Honor: 6.5?
Glory: 0?
Infamy: 1
Status: 0

Rings and Traits
Air: 3 (12 exp)
Earth: 2
Fire: 2 (Agility 3)
Water: 2
Void: 3 (18 exp)

School Skills
High:
Courtier 1
Etiquette 3 (5 exp)
Sincerity 2 (2 exp)
Tea Ceremony 1

Bugei:
Iaijutsu 3 (5 exp)
Kenjutsu 2 (2 exp)
Kyujutsu 1

Other Skills
High:
Investigation 2 (3 exp)

Bugei:
Athletics 1 (1 exp)
Hunting 1 (1 exp)
Spears 2 (3 exp)

Merchant:
Commerce 1 (1 exp)

Low:
Temptation 1 (1 exp)

Advantages
Luck [Spiritual] (3 Points)
Fortune favors the mortal man. A number of times per session equal to your rank in this Advantage, you may choose to immediately re-roll any one roll you make, keeping the higher of the two results.

Seven Fortunes' Blessing: Benten's Blessing [Spiritual] (3 Points)
The Fortunate of Romantic Love has showered you with her blessings. Whenever you are attempting to persuade someone, regardless of the circumstances, you gain a bonus of +0k1 to the total of the Social Skill Roll in question. This bonus only applies to persuasion, not coercion.
(I assume the clan discount still applies, since she presumably already had this before she became ronin? If not... drop Commerce to make up the difference, I suppose?)

Disadvantages
Lechery [Social] (0 Points)
Physical pleasure is a weakness of yours, and you spend considerable time pursuing it. When an opponent makes a Temptation (Seduction) roll against you, he gains a bonus of +1k1 to the total of his roll.

Social Disadvantage (Ronin) [Social] (0 Points)
You have slipped from your position within the Celestial Order, and your place in society reflects that. You begin with Status Rank 0.

Haunted [Spiritual] (3 Points) An ancestor is very upset with her for getting expelled from her clan?
One of your ancestors has chosen to bestow personal attention on you, constantly offering you advice and making demands. Perhaps the ancestor merely wishes you to live up to the ideals of your Clan and family, or perhaps he has some unfinished task or duty which he wishes you to complete. You must show all due deference and respect to your ancestor, and do your best to live up to his (or her) expectations. If you fail to do so, your ancestor's disapproval will bring bad fortune upon you: so long as your ancestor remains angry, once per session one of your die rolls (chosen by the GM) will suffer a -1k1 penalty.

Infamous [Social] (2 Points) Due to the affair that got her made ronin?
You are well known among some circles, but not in the manner you might wish. Rather than being known for your valor and your courage, you are known for being ruthless, cruel, and dangerous. This reputation may not be deserved, but it is widespread enough that it no longer matters if it is true. Your starting Glory Rank is replaced with an Infamy Rank, which serves in exactly the same capacity, save for the reaction of those who recognize you.

Sworn Enemy [Social] (3 Points) She slept with the wrong person?
You have earned an enemy, one who will stop at nothing to see you defeated or even killed. The basic version of this Disadvantage assumes that your enemy is of equal Insight Rank. For each Insight Rank above yours your enemy posssesses, increase the value of this Disadvantage by 1. For 2 additional points, the enemy becomes your kharmic nemesis, and you may not spend Void Points when opposing him or her in any situation.

kakita Bushi 1: The Way of the Crane
The study of the sword demonstrates the many ways in which the art of Kakita's technique can be applied. You add twice your Iaijutsu Skill to all Initiative rolls. You gain a bonus of +1k1 plus your School Rank to the total of all attack and Focus rolls while assuming the Center Stance. This bonus also applies during the Combat Round following one in which you assume the Center Stance.

Etiquette 3: The character gains an additional +3 Insight above the total normally indicated by his Rings and Skill Ranks.

Iaijutsu 3: Readying a katana is a Free Action rather than a Simple Action.

Edit: Added Sworn Enemy, extra points used for 1 rank each of Courtier and Meditation. Experience costs are now indicated as well.

Edit 2: Switched the Courtier and Meditation ranks to 2 ranks of Spears.

@Snow, I'll allow the xp reduction for Benten's Blessing.
Can you title your build for ease of voting though?

Edit:
Thank you.

It occurs to me that I could optimise her even more by making her a former Doji [+1 Awareness] and leaving her Agility at 2, then spending the 12 points freed up this way on more skill ranks, possibly getting to Insight Rank 2. It might be a bit gamey though. :/

Here's a go at it anyway.

Lecherous Courtly Bushi, Version 2!

Okay, so in this version, she joined up with a ronin band that worked as hired guards for travelling merchants and the like, picking up their Technique in the process. (The Guards' Wrath, Strongholds of the Empire, page 168) However, she eventually got someone very angry at her (job gone wrong, maybe?) and was forced to flee, or something like that. Does this work?

Experience costs have also been added for ease of checking.

Sorry but I'm not going to let you start at rank 2. This is a story of starting from the bottom after losing everything but your first lessons. Having lessons in place goes against that.

Fair enough. I like the idea of having Sworn Enemy though, so I've added that to the original and used the extoa points for a couple of skill ranks. :)

Alright no problem.

It amuses me that everyone picks kyujutsu as their second weapon skill when we have to buy arrows.
