Main difference is that I dont buy Admin 5 to ensure a larger Zeal stockpile, since Hama 8 next turn means we have negative zeal gain next turn.

EDIT: Made a new plan, but leaving the old one in case anyone prefers this.

[X] Plan Refinement, and Utility Prayers, no Admin 5
-[X] [Focus Action] You need to familiarize yourself with the Isle of Thanet's geography and people, this can't be delayed. Make sure that the other Thanes know Crowley and will listen if he tells them an attack is coming, and that they know we'll come running if an attack is coming and our place isn't also getting hit. Have Crowley start doing scouting patrols around Thanet to watch for Longships and other raids.
-[X] [Secondary Action] You should spend time working with your Huscarls and Ryder, ensuring that you understand their needs and strengths, while figuring out how to best cooperate with them in the battles to come.
-[X] [Secondary Action] Aalis wants a study, and Alvis wants a place to get back to his trade. Make sure your Retinue gets what they need!
-[X] [Chancellery] "Training with Friends?" 1/?
-[x] Training and Zeal (48 Training, 125 Zeal + 2 Reserve)
--[X] Spend 80 Zeal, Reserve goes to 47
---[X] Spend 64 Zeal on Soma 7 -> 8
---[X] Reserve 63 Zeal, bringing our reserve from 2 -> 63
--[X] Spend 48 training:
---[X] Spend 10 Training on Grip of Samson 20/30 -> 30/30
---[X] Spend 8 Training on Fyrdman yt Wol Rank 3 -> 4
---[X] Spend 6 Training on Web of Blades Rough -> Refined
---[X] Spend 9 Training on Scholarship Chancellery Prayer Non-Existent -> Refined
---[X] Spend 9 Training on Admin Read Instantly Prayer Non-Existent -> Refined
---[X] Spend 4 Training on Light Taunt + Defence Boost Prayer Non-Existent -> Rough (1/6 to Refined)
---[X] Spend 2 Training on Web Shape 2 -> 2 & 2/4

[X][HUSCARL] Hire the 5 Huscarls of the former thanes (About as well trained and armoured as your current Huscarls, 20 Value total, come as a unit). Also hire 5 of the additional available men (Do not have their own armour, 4 Value per man hired)
-[X] Spend 1 Wealth to equip 5 them with better gear like your existing Huscarls
Get us an actual bloody army now so that Ryder can train them all up to "fucking scary" levels before he dies

[X][GEAR] Gift the Spear, Helm, and Mail to Alvis. Find buyers for the rest.

Apparently this is a valid alternative to that Lie Detecting Prayer that was suggested. It boosts our people skills.

Specifically it boosts the ability to read people, to be clear. Not social skills more generally...though reading people can help with other stuff indirectly.

How about a dedicated firefighters force with extra wells so our Huscarl can focus fighting enemy raider without having to worry about the fires they are creating.

That's not gonna boost Defensibility. It might cut down on collateral damage, but honestly if you fight them on the beach and have walls that's probably not needed.

I do hope people realise that "the rest" in this instance is just an axe and a sax and while they're good weapons, it's not the kind of thing that'll give us much money

and we do have quite a few people who could use good weapons right now
My personal reason for flogging the other 2 weapons is that we are bleeding cash to hire and equip our dudes, and this should generate like 2-3 Wealth at a guess which pays off the better part of the basic gear purchases we've done for our dudes.

This is an optimistic assessment of the Wealth gain from this. Mail is a much bigger share of what you got last time. You could probably get some Wealth, but 3 is probably an overestimation...1-2 is possible depending on rolls.

I wonder if way down the line it would be possible to act as a living shield for a group of people (maybe deriving from Grip), making it so as a single unified group, every strike against them is a strike against us ... and our Rebuke. Obviously not a particularly sustainable approach against anything like a peer threat but it would fit chivalric themes if used to protect the innocent ... and play into the way Knights are great at punching down if used to shield subordinate combatants.

Grip doesn't help with that, but being a human shield is within Hordebreaker's wheelhouse as an option.

We're expected to have about a years worth of stored zeal on hand, even if its fine to have that accumulate over a while. But we're in the battle fief, so i think we should have enough stored for more than 2 finales worth, since not having enough to counter a finale is basically death. Also, theres been a lot of talk about going straight to hama 8 to get the increased grace quickly. About the only way i see that happening next turn is if we put in more reserve this turn *and* dont have to use it, since that will require all our income and 3 extra from our reserve to get.

Grip and Fyrdman are of course locked in. Chancellery has been slow for us and we've got a small list of ideas building up. The wisdom boosting prayer is useful as a way to spend locked training where i otherwise would be wanting to spend it on a direct lie-detecting meditation, since it'll apparently help with the same kind of thing :V The read instantly prayer honestly isn't exactly my favorite one to spend on (that might be the 'read between the lines' one), but 1. its an administration prayer to help at least a little. and 2. (and more importantly) i legitimately dont think its entirely in character of audrey to get dressed down by aalis without at least putting some effort into both prayers she mentioned specifically. Gotta get those headpats :V Web of blades getting to refined in honour of all the work it did on the mooks this fight. I think getting some progress on our scouting prayer for next turn is more useful than another rough prayer, when we've got several examples of rough prayers having big drawbacks or otherwise not being worth the capacity or similar. Open to thoughts on a rough prayer to get started on that would actually be viable at rough tho.

Changed my plan up a bunch if anyone is interested. Main difference from the other plans is no Admin 5 to save on Zeal. I think we can wait to see how good our Chancellor is before we need to decide on that. The Instant Reading Prayer is just Rough in this one. I put that training into the Wisdom Boost Prayer instead. It'll increase our people skills so we can diplomance our fellow Thanetians (Thaneters? Thanetites?) better.

Changed my plan.

Completely removed the Admin prayer, to add a power level scouter. Common ways for knights to screw up is to engage in fights they cant win, and the scouter would help reduce the chance of that happening. Maybe get a Keen Eye prayer for Crowley in the future

[X] Plan What does the scouter say about his power level?

We keep the Spear and Helm, give them to Alvis, and then we sell the Mail, Axe, and Sax. We might only get two Wealth if that, but thats still Two Wealth on top of the One we got from the bounty, meaning we basically broke even in the purely monetary sense while coming up startlingly well in terms of upswing from the good will of how this fight overall turned out for us
I realize this might be a case of 'my +2 to Seax does not beat this +5Spear' but part of me wants to ask Alvis how he feels about spears versus Axes versus Seaxs, since as a keystone of how we made this victory work he does warrant a share of the loot.

fun fact the Seneschal of King Arthur was Sir Kay, his foster brother

Like the preposed Rotes, but I also want to get Web Shape up & remove the sound weakness of Keen Ear
Edit: thought about it & Wisdom Boost is more relevant in the short term as we are meeting with alot of people this turn

In regards to defensibility, harbour walls might also be relevant. I doubt most raids would go straight for the docks, but some might. Also traps in the fields. Punji pits, that kind of thing. That one is less desirable because of the potential for civilians to get caught up in them. Also one watchtower is good of course, but unless you can see the whole fief, more would help.

Also, also having some kind of fort or roundhouse for the non-fighters to retreat to. Or in the case of an attack that we can't deal with head-on, for everyone to retreat to.
If we built walls around the village, then this fort would probably be within the village. A second layer of defense for the non-combatants to take shelter in, as well as our personal seat of power.

Afaik fortified roundhouses were used a lot as a defense against raiders.

Also just making it so less buildings are made of wood in general. Fireballs should not be such a credible threat.
If we made a dedicated Prayer specifically for out of combat use, that could easily become a lot more.
Without knowing what the number is now talking about improving it is a non-starter.

Just how strong is Audrey at this point? As in how much can she deadlift? Because that number really informs the scale that we can use the Grip of Samson.

Not enough to pick up a gatehouse yet, a small wooden house is probably doable, though.

These aren't really practical. The latter has particular issues given that most enemies come by sea, which is an issue with the idea involving the roads as well, now that I think about it.

Also one watchtower is good of course, but unless you can see the whole fief, more would help.

You may be overestimating the size of the fief. It's well under two square miles, you can indeed see the whole thing from the watchtower.

This is one of the uses of the fortified manor, which you already have.

Also just making it so less buildings are made of wood in general. Fireballs should not be such a credible threat.

You don't have any local stone supply for building...shipping stone in for everyone's houses is ruinously expensive, it's not available.

[][GEAR] Find a buyer: Quality mail and arms are rare to find in Wessex–and there's no small amount of Thanes or Errants who'd be delighted to equip themselves further. A few letters to the right people, a little bit of embellishment, and you're certain you can make a tidy profit off of this. (Sell the specified gear. A Diplomacy roll will be involved to see how much you can sell them for).
-[] Superior Forged Iron Axe
-[] Superior Forged Iron Sax
-[] Superior Bog Iron Mail (Damaged but repairable)

[][GEAR] Gift them to Alvis: Your newly hired brewer may not be a professional fighter–but you are his employer now, and he can still make good use of their magic. Offer him these arms, so that he can better protect himself–and by extension, your holdings when he gets settled in. (Gift some of this gear to Alvis)
-[] Superior Bog Iron Helm with Runes (Damaged but Repairable)

[][GEAR] Keep them for now. You have no need for money from their sale at the moment and Alvis isn't a professional. (Keep some or all of this gear for now)
-[] Grand Ironwood Runed Spear

[X][GEAR] Keep the spear, gift the helmet, sell everything else

I like that we are improving Web shape here!
Personally I'm not sure we should be giving Alvis the spear. I think we should either sell it or hold onto it and give it to whoever our Marshall ends up being long term potentially. The money seems way more valuable then the random gear. I'm not sure if I voted correctly for that.
