You change your Keychain to Hidden Dragon, and as soon as you enter the wide, open throne room, with its long red carpet leading across the area, there's the sound of numerous Heartless spawning in rapid succession. Descending from the ceiling is a veritable army of Bolt Towers, all intent on impeding your process—and you're already focusing.
"Not here, too!" cries Minnie.
"Already on it," you say, making sure to get as many Heartless into this Shotlock as possible. Bolt Towers are immune to Thunder, so this is the best way to sweep them all up at once.
You unleash Hidden Dragon's Shotlock, and a series of fireworks erupts from your Keyblade, each rocket whistling through the air with a piercing screech. The throne room explodes into color and noise, the colorful bursts of light and smoke silhouetting the Heartless as the room is filled with echoing booms.
"BOOM, BABY!" you exclaim.
"WHAT?!" yells Minnie, covering her big ears.
"I SAID—" you cast Fire into the smoke multiple times, hoping the homing qualities got in some hits— "BOOM, BABY!"
As the smoke begins to clear and the sound of fireworks dies down, you see several hearts floating away, a trademark sign of a squad of Emblem Heartless' destruction. However, you don't have any time to rest. While that Shotlock took care of the front line of Bolt Towers, it wasn't able to destroy the ones closer.
You and Minnie advance towards the throne, where the Bolt Towers try slamming the floor with the top of their bodies. Minnie casts Pearl, with the orb of light bouncing from one Heartless to the next to the point that you can hear the sounds of a pinball machine in your head.
"Focus, Haru," you remind yourself. "Speed is key." You pivot on your heel and jump into the air, casting a barrage of Fire spells to keep the remaining Heartless at bay, each spell adding to the smell of smoke that the Shotlock filled the room with.
When any of them start closing in on you, Minnie casts Faith to scatter them across the room again, allowing you to sweep them all up with Fire, even doing some Grand Magic in the form of Fira, which incinerates the last of the Heartless in a blazing display.
The room falls silent, save for the faint crackle of lingering embers. The air is thick with smoke, but it's over.
"That should be all of them," Minnie says with a sigh of relief. She walks over to the throne and presses a hidden button on the armrest. With a soft rumble, the pedestal on which the throne sits begins to move, sliding aside to reveal a secret staircase spiraling downwards.
"Our castle has always been safe from evil thanks to the Cornerstone of Light we keep down here," she explains as you descend with her, pushing open the doors.
The Hall of the Cornerstone is a vast chamber with a large crystal sphere filled with swirling, flickering, dim lights in the center, sitting on a white pedestal. However, the entire room is filled with thick, twisting thorns have sprouted from the ground, their blackened vines creeping up the walls and snaking across the floor, all pulsing with a faint, malevolent energy as if alive from Maleficent's magic.
In a burst of sickly green flame appears the mistress of all evil herself, though her image is transparent.
"Maleficent!" you shout.
"Well, well," she says with a satisfied smile, admiring her handiwork. "What have we here? If it isn't the replica—" she eyes Donald and Goofy running down into the room— "and the king's bumbling lackeys."
"What?! Now you're gonna deal with me!" screeches Donald, charging at her and falling right through her projection.
"Just what are you doing here, Maleficent?" asks Minnie.
"Ah, Queen Minnie. Radiant as always," replies Maleficent with a mocking bow. "I'm merely here on a little… property venture. I find this castle charming, but it's far too 'bright' for my tastes." She traces her finger along the surface of the Cornerstone, causing its faint glow to flicker in response. "I suppose I'll just have to fill every room with my personal touch of darkness."
"You'd better stop right now if you know what's good for you!" warns Minnie.
A wicked smile spreads across Maleficent's face. "Oh, how frightening. But you're sorely mistaken. You see, in a way, we have something in common," she continues, glancing at you. "After all, we both know the future, do we not? We both know of the inevitable clash between light and darkness that lurks on the horizon—one that even you, Haru, for all your foresight, cannot prevent."
Maleficent's grin widens. "I know how vast your knowledge of the future is… so why not make a deal? You tell me the outcome of the Keyblade War and whether that which I seek will appear, and I promise to leave this castle…
unscathed." She leans closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You know what
that is, don't you?"
"I don't," you reply. "Seriously, I don't. Xemnas took away a lot of my meta knowledge, so I can't see the future as clearly anymore."
Maleficent's eyes narrow, her scowl deepening. "Do not lie to me, boy. You know very well what I seek: a book that can make entire worlds; the ancient Book of—"
Before she can finish, a chilling gust sweeps through the hall, and suddenly, a swarm of gray-hooded wraiths emerges from the thorns, their eerie forms gliding toward Maleficent. Their presence sends a shiver down your spine, and the air grows cold and heavy, as if the room itself is being smothered by an unseen force.
"What is this?!" Maleficent demands.
"I don't know!" you shout back, remembering these things from Olympus Coliseum.
The wraiths continue their approach, swirling around Maleficent like a storm. Her image flickers with an unnatural distortion. "Enough of this!" she snarls. With a wave of her staff, she dispels her projection, vanishing from the hall in a burst of green flame before the wraiths depart soon after.
