Yes, but that scattershot approach is a bit scattershot when I want to get back home and make corrections.Fix to 'your' mission.
I do better picking them up as I read along. Yes, causes multiple posts, but I do better pointing out when they stick out instead of trying to gather them all in bulk.
Huh.
I didn't know you wrote kancolle fanfic Whiskey. Or- Oh wait.
...
I need to go through this thread, don't I.
That'd work quite well, and would probably be less distracting to the other readers. It would also be significantly more efficient for me to be able to look at one thing.@Lancer Fire

Can't really happen. Consider this a generous one-time act of kindness. I'm not gonna be sticking around here much longer. Without delving into detail, I'm not coming to this site or this story again. That'd work quite well, and would probably be less distracting to the other readers. If Yvonne is indoors, she wouldn't salute anyone. Navy doesn't salute indoors.True. Its situational. At the same time this is a mere Commander addressing someone that is at least a Vice Admiral. So at least a four rank difference, to say nothing of the Flag mounted on his desk. Foreign officer or not, one word from him to the Pentagon and Yvonne could very likely be hauling ass back across the Pacific and find herself in front of a very irate USN Admiral & diplomatic attache. Well, if Yvonne wasnt who she actually is.
And Japan can be real touchy about when formalities are to be obeyed without any deviations from them, while at other times you can throw formalities right out the proverbial window at the drop of a hat.
As for the gate guard? Situational. They both effectively had time to do it, plus he DID salute her which generally means she's required by regs to return it. If he hadn't saluted, probably she wouldn't have bothered about the formalities either.
If Yvonne is indoors, she wouldn't solute anyone. Navy doesn't solute indoors.
No, that would be "being solvated". The intermolecular/lattice forces of whatever is suspended in Yvonne (probably ice cream) are being overcome by her solvent molecules's polar protic attractions and so the solute nuclei are being surrounded by Yvonne molecules.
DERIVE A QUALITATIVE MOLECULAR ORBITAL BONDING MODEL FOR DIMERIZED BORANE THAT EXPLAINS ITS STRUCTURE AND BOND ORDER!... yeah see this is why I dropped chemistry and went for English Literature![]()

If I did that correctly, I just triggered flashbacks right now.

I have observed that on SV (and on that other forum), ANYTHING can be used in a lewd way.
"Word gets around very quickly on this base. I never would have thought of that. You have a way with Kanmusu. That's more than I can say for some of our officers," the Admiral commented.
"It's a pity you're with the United States Navy. You're a natural at handling these girls, which is more than I can say for some of our officers. I wouldn't object to you serving in my command," the Admiral added.
It was deliberate choice on my part. Gibb!Teitoku tryong to make a point.Basically the exact same sentence. You could stand to lose one of them.
The Kaga opening is definitely a nice touch. Both as an alternate point of view and apossible misdirect as to who Swanson would end up choosing for her team.
Ah. Still, think you could chuck in an "As I said"? It makes it clearer that he's deliberately repeating the point for empahsis and not unintentional repetition. It was deliberate choice on my part. Gibb!Teitoku tryong to make a point.
And glad to know you liked the kaga opening.
Obviously, all new.Every time I close my eyes, I see them.
It always comes back to this. Always the same ferry. Always surrounded by the dead and the dying.
I can hear their weak pleas. "Help us," they beg me. "Save us."
But I come late to their aid. I am powerless to save them.
My fighters and torpedo planes and bombers can destroy or drive away the Abyssals. But my weaponry cannot save a dying child. My aircraft cannot combat sickness like medicines and vaccines. They cannot become food that will repel starvation and strengthen the weakened. And they cannot replace the lives lost to the demons of the deep.
I can exact vengeance for the dead. But my victory is meaningless. They still died. They died because I am a failure. Because if I was better, they would still be alive.
So I push myself harder and harder. I must be stronger. I must be perfect. We stand on a knife's edge. If I falter, we are all lost.
We stand on the edge of destruction, and yet the Americans do nothing.
It has been a year since we came back. Twelve months of continuous combat. But the Americans sit in their safe home, protected from attack, and do nothing.
Why are they not summoning their Kanmusu? Why have their mighty fleets not returned to scour the Abyssals from the seas? Can they not see that we are suffering, that we are worn to the bone, that we are not enough?
We need them. But they are not here. And victory is ever distant. It is all we can do to maintain the precarious balance of survival.
The Americans have abandoned us. In deed, if not in words.
But I... I will not abandon my nation.
On my honor as a member of the First Carrier Division, this I swear. I am aircraft carrier Kaga. I will not be found wanting.
I will do my duty.

Normally this kind of thing would have sunk the man's career outright. It was only the Admiral's gamble that had given Matsuda a second chance.

By undertaking this high risk, high reward assignment, the black stain on Matsuda's career might be mitigated or even erased.

If he failed... Well, he was pretty much screwed anyway, as the admiralty would make him the perfect scapegoat to foist their failure on.

Yvonne didn't like the logic behind the decision, but she could see its appeal to the Japanese high command.

Yvonne said, turning back to regard the guard on the other side of the guardhouse window
"Sorry, Shoukaku-nee, but it's just got me really riled up..."
"What does she think we are, pocket monsters?" Zuikaku grumbled
"Or so they say," Kaga returned, her gaze unwavering. "It has been a year, Yamato."
"You certainly aren't wasting any time. I'm surprised you went with Zuikaku. I'd have picked Kaga or Akagi.
"You certainly aren't wasting any time. I would have thought you'd have selected a member of the First Carrier Division.
More sea time, more experience, more skill. More kills," the Admiral mused. "Probably Kaga. She's more driven."
They are far more skilled and experienced than Zuikaku," the Admiral mused.
Changing the program to one to one sessions was pretty smart."

You have a way with Kanmusu. That's more than I can say for some of our officers," the Admiral commented.
. You have a way with our Kanmusu that I honestly wish some of our own officers could emulate!" the Admiral commended with a laugh.
. You're a natural at handling these girls, which is more than I can say for some of our officers. I wouldn't object to you serving in my command," the Admiral added.
Handling these girls is tiring, and you do it like it comes naturally to you. If you don't mind me saying, I would love to have someone like you under my command," the Admiral added.
