You cough out blood as you lie there, half dead.

D-Damn that hero!

All you wanted was...was…...
The beginning... that definitely needs a rewrite

I wish I could stay
You cough out blood as you lie there, half dead.

D-Damn that hero!

All you wanted was...was…

What did you want again?

Ah, never mind. All that matters is that at any moment you're going to die. Even if you ran away to recharge It wouldn't work. That holy sword destroyed too much of you. Even now you can feel it's sting.

W-Why? WHY?!

You struggle to lift your head up and look to where the hero is. There she is, celebrating with her companions.

Was this how the story ends? With the hero and her friends leaving to go out into the world? Fight more battles? Save more people? All as you die right here?

No! Y-You can't accept that kind of ending. A-After all, wasn't that why you…

Damn, lost it again.

With all your strength you lift your hand/claw up and stab the hero.

A moment of silence passes before blood leaks in between your hands. You faintly register the horrified looks of her other companions.

You feel your vision growing dark. You won't give any final words, at least not publicly. For that's what they would want. Between you and the hero however…

"Goodbye."

And that is the moment your vision fades to black and your mind goes to oblivion…
.
.
.
What's that? A light? Why would…

"It's a boy!"

"Welcome to the world ___________!"
[] Insert name here.
***
It's been six years since that day.

You've been reincarnated into this place known as "Earth". It's not that bad. Though your current goal is…

[] Take over this new world.
[] Get back to your old world.
-[] So that you can take it over.
[] Live peacefully in this new one.

Ha…

Well, all that time has finally led you to check who your neighbor is. So here you stand, on their doorstep, preparing yourself.

Alright, three, two, one. Knock.

A faint sound of "I'm coming!" comes muffled through the door. The voice sounds suspiciously familiar…

The door opens and your eyes go wide. I-It couldn't be!

Apparently, the one on the other side of the door has the same thoughts because you both reacted at the same time.

"YOU!"

That's right, the person that stood before you was her, the "Hero".

Since that time…
[] Three years have passed, you sort of have a rivalry.
[] Six years have passed, you know each very well. Still have some rivalry.
[] Ten years have passed. You're both in high school, and actually, very good friends.

[] No time has passed, this is happening right now.
***
Alright everyone, welcome to Into The New World. The quest that probably should have been a light novel. It even has a name like that,
"I'm the Reincarnated Overlord and the Hero Is My Childhood Friend?!"
YEP. This is happening. I'll admit that the Devil is a Part-timer is some of the inspiration but not all of it. Mushoku Tensei, you know, the usual fantasy stuff.
So, why is this quest being made. Fuck if I know, but hey! Let's have some fun!
I have no idea on the update schedule though.

RUN! RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!
The sun shines down upon your eyes from the window, waking you up with it's glorious warmth.

Ah, what a wonderful way to wake up.

You slowly stumble out of bed, and open the curtains so you can bask in it's lights.

Praise. The . SU-

The reincarnated hero throws her curtain open and yells at you from the window. "Stop being weird in the morning! Put a shirt on!"

"Do you deny the sun?" You ask from the window.

"Just drink some coffee already!" She shouts.

"Fine..." You grumble, walking away from the window.

You will return sun. You will return.

You get dressed and head to the kitchen table where breakfast was already waiting for you, along with some coffee.

Three, two, one.

"H-Hey." Your mothers voice calls out to you. "I-It's not like I made breakfast for you o-or anything. I-I just made too much! Geez! J-Just eat it already!"

The darkness envelops you...

You quickly drink the cup of coffee and suddenly your thoughts became clear.

"Thanks for the food." You say apathetically. You have long since gotten used to your mothers weird way of showing her feelings.

"I-It's n-not like I like you, y-y-you d-d-dummy!" She says, retreating to who knows where.

As the Hero put it. "Overlord, your mom is weird.".

You quickly run back to your room to grab your bag. With a quick shout of "I'm leaving." You walk outside to find the hero waiting for you.

"Morning Kibo, I see you're still spreading hope gloriously." You say to the blond girl.

"I told you too shut up about it." She grumbles.

"Kibo, if I haven't shut up about in ten years, why would I do that now?" You say in a teasing manner.

The joke you were talking about was her name. Kibo Kagayakashi, which basically meant hope glorious. It was a mystery as to why her parents named her that, but it was one where it gives you plenty of teasing amo.

Besides, this is her mother we're talking about. Thinking about her too much sends a chill down your spine.

"I don't know... maybe, this!" She yells, bringing out that wooden sword of hers and doing a horizontal swing right where your head was a few seconds ago.

Dodge motherfucker.

"Um, hey, maybe you shouldn't do that?" You ask, some fear creeping into your voice.

"Never! Prepare for divine retribution, Overlord!" She shouts before swinging the sword once more.

Annnnnd that's how you found yourself running to school with a hero on your tail.

"Stay still, dammit!"
***
You slump down onto your desk. You finally managed to get Kibo to stop chasing you, and you were eternally grateful for that.

Those swings hurt.

You had a couple minutes before class began so you brought out your cellphone and begin playing Puzzle and Dragons.

You didn't want to get addicted to the game, but it is a good way to pass time.
.
.
.
...and there's the bell. 5 minutes passed by quick.

Luckily, you finished the dungeon right at that moment.

You can quit anytime you want dammit!

Classes go by quickly and before you know it, schools over.

You run outside to meet Kibo when you realise something.

You have no plans for this afternoon.

[] Head home to play videogames.
-[] Call another friend with you.
--[] Write in friend's name. Don't expect much from me folks!

[] Head to the local cafe.

[] Head to the mall.

[] Write in.

End of the first day
"Hey, wanna go to the mall?"

"Sure, why not?"
***
You stare at the claw machine as it lifts your prize.

You were at the arcade section of the mall. The two of you weren't really into seeing a movie yet.

The mall it's self wasn't much, the standard shops and a movie theater being the only big hit. Faintly, you spot a purple fog in the background.

And Starbucks, but fuck Starbucks.

Come on, come on! Work!

It grabs the prize you wanted and begins to drag it to the drop box, ever so slowly. You can't help but give it an intense glare that had your previous life's minions to freeze in place.

Kibo just sighs. "Why are you doing this? You've already wasted 2000 yen on this thing."

FOOL!

"Do you not see it Kibo? The joy you get when you actually make it on this dreadful machine? Where is your hope that I can do it?" You respond.

"I lost all hope the moment you got too 1000 yen." She retorts.

Humph, she just doesn't understand the triumph.

The claw drops your prize right near the exit.

"DAMMIT!!" You shout.

These things are evil! Evil!

"C'mon, lets go before you lose all your money." Kibo states, grabbing her bag from off the floor.

"Ha! I'd like to see you try!" You shout, pointing at her with all the conviction you can manage.

This thing was eating up a lot of your money.

"Yes overlord." She says, emphasizing your previous title.

Your eye twitches as she walks up to the register nearby. What is she..?

You can faintly hear her. You subconsciously reinforce your ears.

"Excuse me, can I have that prize from the claw machine?"

"Ah, sure. Wait a minute miss."

Why that!

By the time she comes up to you with the prize your eye is twitching at a massive rate.

"So..." You begin. "This is how you spread hope, huh? By cheating?"

"H-Hey! I just didn't want to waste any more money!" She stammer, backing up a bit with her cheeks getting flushed.

"Right..."

"It's true!" She yells. "You know what? Why don't we try something else."

You spot a gun game in the corner of the arcade. It's one of those two person shooter games.

"Say, you up for some jolly co-operation?"
***
It turns out, that you and Kibo suck at shooting games. Despite having sixteen years to get used to Earth you still know battle as swords, claw things, and a shit load of magic. Guns just weren't your thing, but you've been trying over the last few years.

And by "Trying" you mean go to a game like this by yourself once a month and completely fail.

...Yeah, you know what? Let's stop talking about this.

Kibo brings out her phone to check the time. "5:47 huh? ...We'd better go home."

You nod your head and begin your walk with the Reincarnated hero.
***
As you're walking home along the road you just happen to see the sunset.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" You comment out loud.

"Yeah, Menione never had a view like this." Kibo replies, gazing off into the sun. "Though I miss the way shown softly on us all."

"Hey, don't be forgetting our promise, you hear?" You say jokingly, shaking your head a little as you to begin to bask in the sun's warmth.

"Course not, I like these peaceful days. I wish they would never end..."

"Me too Kibo. Me too..."

You close your eyes and let the heat drift you into your memories. To that day four years ago when you made an important promise...
***
She sat there crying, and you were stunned. You had never seen this side of her before, she was always brave at the least. You'd never expect that there was this side of her.

The afternoon sun stabbed holes of heat into your eyes. Dimly lighting up the school rooftop.

"I-I can't take it anymore." The hero sobbed out. "I-I don't know what to think. Y-You're different from the monster I remember, and I'm still the same."

Eh?! She thought of you as a monster?! Well, you did give that impression...

"Why?! Why couldn't it be as simple as it was in Menione? You were the bad guy and I was the good guy." She cried.

You sigh and sit down next to her. "There was a reason for that in Menione, there's no reason for that here."

The reason. That final blow took away the very reason of why you were the Overlord. No matter how much you try to recall it, it escapes your grasp. But, at times you can faintly remember, and that is enough for you.

"Why?!"

That word rang something inside of you, a bit more of the reason comes back to you.

"Because there's no story here."

The hero stops crying and looks you in confusion. "Wha...?"

A small smile appears on your face. "Hey, why don't we forget Menione, so that we can live in peaceful days."

"Peaceful days?" The hero questions in a mumble.

"Yeah, why don't we start over so that we can live in peace?" You ask.

"I don't really get it but... sure." The hero says.

"My name's Solaire Astora, nice to meet you."

"My name's Kibo Kagayakashi. It's nice to meet you too."
***

You and Kibo ended up just walking home in silence. There was no need to say anything.

You give your goodbyes once you reach your respective houses and walk away.

Dinner was... okay. Well, as okay as it can get with a Tsundere mom.

Table you will be missed....

Now, what do?

[] SLEEP.

[] Video games.
-[] All night long!

[] Study.

Ow my back
Screw sleeping! You have better things to do!

Video games.

You stare at the game held in your hand, a birthday present form Kido that you never got around to playing.

Bring it on, Persona 4: The Golden.
***
The sunlight wakes you up from your slumber. Such a glorious light.

Ugh, what happened last night? Why does everything hurt-
***
A sudden blow blows you to the other side of the room. You subconsciously reinforce yourself to dull the pain.

Before you stands Kibo, night clothes on and a furious expression on her face.

"Go the fuck to sleep!!" She yells."It's three in the morning, and I'm tired of hearing you yell while you play that damn game!!"

Oh, you were yelling, weren't you?

"D-Did you break into my house?" You grunt out of your teeth. "You know I can call the police."

"One, you won't do it. Two, THEN SHUT YOUR BALCONY DOOR!!" She yells, storming out your balcony and jumping to her own. "Go the fuck to sleep!

You struggle to get up and close the balcony door before collapsing on your bed.
***
Oh yeah...

For some reason you have this weird habit of yelling when you play video games. You're done healing from the blow.

You save the game and get dressed before walking down stairs to find breakfast already on the table with a note on the side.

Hey, I made breakfast for you I made to much food so I left some of it on the table for you Just in case you were hungry Just, eat up!

Anyways, I won't be home until late. Not that I care if your worried! I just wanted to let you know! Well, there's some food in the fridge for dinner.

Love
-Mom.

Dammit mom, speak what you want to say for once!

You eat breakfast before meeting Kibo outside.

"So, about last night..."

"Lets just go."
***
The rest of the day goes by as usual.

Kibo apparently had something to do (Kendo? Ugh, you need to know your friends better) so she left you by yourself after school.

Maybe you should join a club? Damn, sign ups were like months ago. Kibo was complaining about being scouted by an insane amount of clubs. You can still hear their cries of "Please join us!". Those hit's you got from her wooden sword for laughing was worth it.

Come to think of it, she's kinda like the school idol, isn't she? Your surprised she hasn't been confessed to yet.

Alright, you need something to do before you insane from boredom.

[] Alright, your going home to take a nap.

[] The park? Eh, maybe you'll find something to do.

[] The mall again. You will win claw machine!

Where things start to get a bit tippy
The park seems nice.

The park had the usual level of noise. Not that you go here often.

You and Kibo used to come here all the time. Ah, those were the days.

Great, now you sound old. Which, technically you are, but it's nice not to think about that.

Something about this place seemed, off...

You narrow your eyes and trail the surrounding area. Nothing seemed off, but why did your sense tell you to run away? They're coming....

A dull throb in your head forces you to sit on the nearest bench.

You need to get out. YOU NEED TO GET-

Your eyes widen as a shiver goes down your spine.

T-This energy. I-It feels like...

Demonic energy. No. That's not right...

Your body tightens up as you feel a wave of magic pass through the air. Nobody else seems to have noticed it. please, someone help me...

Well, that was obvious. You're sure that nobody without a connection to Menione could have reacted to that.

Still, you need to decided on what to do.

[] Head to the source. Fool.
[] Stay where you are. Monster.
[] Run. RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN! Coward.

The actual fuck? DAMMIT PAST ME!
You slowly get up and begin running to the source of magical energy. Wait, something's pulling you there. You're magical senses haven't been used in years. It shouldn't be this good.
You speed onwards past the crowds as purple smoke descended upon the park.

Help me...

There it is, a voice in your thoughts.

Just hang on, you're coming. Ack, this damn headache.

The fog clears up and reveals a girl lying in a puddle of blood. A demon standing over her, ready to deal the finishing blow.

You never thought you'd see a demon ever again, not since you were reincarnated to this world. ...What the hell is a demon?

If you don't do something quick it's going to kill her!

[] Save the girl. A hero always saves everyone!
[] Leave her to the demon. What kind of sick monster are you?![\color]
[] Snap out of it. This isn't you.

Death Count: 1
You have to save her! ...Do you have too?

Why...Why are you hesitating?! This entire situation is off.

If you don't do something she's going to die! Think about this for a moment.

No matter how much you will your body, it won't move. This damn headache, it's hard to think.

You struggle to take a step towards the demon. First off, demons don't exist.

With all your strength, you stretch out your arm... Second of all...

S-Save her! I'm no hero.

A chain snaps. I'm no puppet.

Why...?

I won't lie to myself. This isn't me.

The fog disappears. The hazy mess your mind had become clears up.

The scene vanishes right before your eyes. The beast disappears like it was never there, probably never was. As for the girl...

You drop to the floor and cover your nose.

Oh, she was there alright. Just one problem...

She was already dead.

The stench of rot fills the air. You look at the decaying corpse right in front of you. Insects are already eating into her flesh.

How long had she been dead?

Probably for a while if the state of her corpse said anything. The real question is how come no one noticed anything.

You need to make a decision, you don't think you can take this sight anymore.

Any intelligent being would be unnerved at the sight of the dead. Only complete monsters would be perfectly fine.

Well, it's hard to pull out emotions for someone you don't know.

You can feel hot puke crawling up your throat.

[] Run. RUNRUNRUNRUNRUNRUN!
[] Investigate the scene more.
[] Burn the corpse.

You really do need to get more friends
If someone had told you yesterday that you'd be investigating the area around the body of a dead girl who you were tricked into believing was alive a couple of minuets ago you would have laughed at them. Now?

....Yeah, you still would have laughed at them.

Honestly, this whole situation was absurd. You thought you were done with the crap a long time ago.

But here you are.

...Ugh, the smell.

You begin with a small magic search and come up with...

Nothing. No physical signs of anything either. You even got your hands dirity and still came up with nothing!

This could only mean one thing.

It was all prepared in advanced.

In other words, a trap. But for who? You or Kibo?

The ringing of your phone brings you back to reality. There's only one person who has your phone number (Besides your mom. But lets face it, she doesn't call you unless you're out really late).

...You really need more friends.

Terrible social life aside. You quickly pick up the phone.

"Yo, Kibo." You greet nonchalantly. "I take it your done?"

"Yeah, we finished up early." She says. "Where are you?"

Uh....

Should you tell her?

[] Tell her.
[] Lie.
[] Tell her you were heading home.
***
WAKE UP!

Fear the anti-silly
"Well, you see..." You begin hesitantly. "I'm standing right in front of a corpse. Now, before you say anything, it wasn't my fault."

"...I'm sorry. What?" Kibo replies. "How the hell did you end up in front of a corpse."

Okay. Here it goes.

"I was attacked."

"...What."

"It's true! I'm telling you!" You yell.

"Explain." Comes Kibo's no nonsense reply.

"Well, I thought hanging out at the park was a good idea, so I went there for the afternoon. The next thing I knew, something happened. I'm not entirely sure what, just that I wasn't in control of my actions." You explain. "I was kinda, acting like a hero saving a girl from a demon."

"...What the hell is a demon?" Kibo responds. "Have you been playing too much video games again? We both know demons don't exist. Even if we are reincarnations, they never existed in Menione."

"No, trust me. If I was playing too much video games, the sight in front of me wouldn't be real. The stench of death is everywhere here."

This whole situation reeks of them.

...Who? The gods kid. The gods.

"Look, are you okay. If what you are saying is true, then, well, we haven't seen the consequences of battle in a long time." Kibo says in an attempt to comfort you.

"...She was already dead when I got here." You say. "Somebody tricked me into thinking she was alive. I don't know how long she's been dead, more then a few days at least."

A sigh comes through the phone.

"This is... weren't we done with this?" Kibo says.

You know her well enough by now that you can tell she is crying on the inside. You've only seen her cry once.

A hero has to be brave after all. No exceptions. The gods won't allow it.

"Let's talk about this tomorrow." You declare. "It's Saturday, a half day, after all."

"Y-Yeah..."

The call ends.

...You know what? You're tired. Might as well just head home.

You give one last glance at the corpse before walking back to where you dropped your stuff.

You wish you could remember what's going on. It's like everything falls into place before someone shatters it. I could help you there kid.

By the time you get home you don't even bother making dinner. You just head to your room and collapse on your bed. Just go to sleep and listen to your story...

You should probably just stop thinking about all of this.

...What should you do know?

[] Make dinner.
[] Homework.
[] Sleep.
-[] And let me help you remember the past.

Hey Kid, want some candy?
OH SHIT!

I knew I should have checked the date! Dammit!

Uh... Here you go?
***
Most story's are simple. A hero and a bad guy fight from beginning to end. O'course we can't have the good guys loosing, so the bad guys always lose. No matter the consequences.

It's quite a thing really. Some are resigned to their fate. Some are redeemed. In the end, does it ever really matter? It's the journey that matters, not the destination. And this is your story kid. So enjoy the journey, it's the only thing you can do now.

So how did you begin? Well it all began when another's story began...
***

The town was really a simple place, perfect for the beginnings of a hero. O'course we both know that ain't you, so in a way, you're world got turned upside down by this.

The god's were smiling on someone else that day kid, you weren't supposed to survive kid. Your world burned around you, raining down to ashes. The dead welcome you with open arms, but you weren't the dead. Not yet, anyways.

Smoke blackened the skys as you fall to your knees resigned to your fate. The world you had so loved was gone, better you go with it. You're not important. Not important at all...

Who decided that? The gods, they always decide everything. You might as well get used.

Speaking of the gods, a bright light pierces through the sky and a holy sword fit for a hero descends. You stare in awe, but it lands in someone else's hands. It was an evil, one of the greatest in the world. Disguised as something good, they who commit deserve to pushed into oblivion.

It was a Deus Ex Machina.

You couldn't recognize him, but he must have been the same age as you. They always are.

You need to make a choice here kid. One that'll affect how the story goes. O'course you could just go and end the story right now, but where's the fun in that?

Day's coming kid, hurry up.

[] Take the sword for yourself. The god's have abandon you on this day. You're not going down without a fight.
[] Resign to your fate. It burns...
[] End the story. NO MORE! NO MORE!
