I feel for Satou. Oh I shout gleefully about the lewds and all but it would deffo suck to be her.

And oh god getting home past midnight and having to wake up at 4 and not being able to nap in between or even on the train >_<

Yeah. Takahashi's reaction to Satou has some pretty debilitating implications for people born as succubi. Like, imagine Satou kisses her partner and it causes him to have an ejaculation or something. You can be lewd about it for the lulz, but there are people in real life who have uncontrollable ejaculations due to a debilitating condition. I remember reading an article about a guy who had a condition where he would have uncontrollable orgasms, and he talked about how moritfying it was where he was at his father's funeral and he had a random ejaculation right then and there. Satou's ability seems to be similar, except that she causes that to happen to others around her. Imagine a relationship where you aren't allowed to have any sort of intimacy without causing problems. Yeah, your sex life might be great (emphasis on "might", which is very unlikely), but now you can't even do things like kiss, cuddle, or even hold hands without causing distress to your partner. This is without taking into account that both partners would be strained in trying to figure out if their relationship is actually legitimate, or just a product of the aphrodisiac effect of the succubus condition.

I could go on and on, but I think it's a bit out of the scope of this thread. However, I think this is why I like Satou the most. Sure Hikari is hilarious and Machi is adorable, but Satou to me comes off as someone who actually suffers from her condition. And I think that's why she's the best character in the show/manga, even if the story doesn't really focus on her or the darker implications of her condition.

EDIT: I think that TakaMachi is a super cute ship, but I hope that the TakaSatou ship sails. If there's anyone in the show that deserves happiness it's her.

Eh I prefer TakaSatou solely because TakaMachi, while adorable, is well...skeevy. Admittedly he's a good man but y'know the whole power dynamic and age thing sours it.

Now if Machi was older this would be an entirely different story.

I just finished watching the third episode, currently no plans to read the manga, and while Machi is definitely best girl I definitely don't support shipping her with Takahashi.

I too wholeheartedly support TakaSatou. I really feel for all the problems Satou's Succubus nature causes her, and want her to find happiness.

Funimation dub begins in about 24 hours! Here's a cast list for ya!

CHARACTER CAST
HIKARI TAKANASHI Bryn Apprill
TETSUO TAKAHASHI Cris George
SAKIE SATOU Morgan Garrett
KYOUKO MACHI Terri Doty
YUKI KUSAKABE Sarah Wiedenheft
HIMARI TAKANASHI Jamie Marchi
Episode 1
KATOU Kyle Phillips
CREW
ADR Director Jad Saxton
ADR Engineer James Baker
Writer Kristen McGuire
Mixing Engineer Adrian Cook

Very nice cast. I don't know George much, but I'm familiar with all the female cast and am a fan of them all. Apprill has basically had a monopoly on cute anime girls for two years now because she's got the most anime voice in the west, Garrett is absolutely perfect for Satou based on her work in Love Live Sunshine, Wiedenheft never ceases to impress me, Marchi is a bundle of personality, and Doty is one I've only recently gotten a sense for through bit roles but I'm fairly confident in her abilities. Kristen McGuire is typically a pretty great script writer so I think this'll be a pretty solid dub overall.

TFW Himari is played by Panty, Rias, and not only looks like Chloe but used to be one of her roles. Also quite a few of them play D-Frag, DXD, and That Twintail Anime characters.

Annnnnddd apparently Kusakabe is voiced by a character from...Huniepop okay? Well this should be fun...

Say what you will about Huniepop, but the voice acting was decent (and far better than it could have been).

Anyways, a quick check on Yuki's VA's Wikipedia page shows a lot of roles, with the two that jump out at me being Ruby from Sunshine and Aika from Twintail.

I can only watch minutes of it (CURSE YOU STREEAAAAMMM) but so far, Hikari is a valley girl and Takahashi sounds like a Youtuber. Like he sounds like he should be making Let's Play videos or like anime reviews.

Takahashi's VA needs work. Hikari is fine.

Hikari does strike me as the ditzy, kinda stupid type, so valley girl does fit. As for the LPer thing... that's not a bad thing in and of itself; I can think of a few that would make decent VAs.

Watched the dub, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't put it among the best of the best of the simuldubs but it's solid and fun.

Apprill doesn't strike me as valley girl In performance, though the script is very western for this one so she does use a good amount of teen slang that I can see may give off that impression.

I like George as Takahashi, grew on me quickly and his line delivery's great (see "SHE DOESN'T HAVE A FACE").

We only got one line of Wiedenheft as Yuuki but she sounds as expected, similar delivery to her Ruby from Love Live Sunshine.

Similarly, Garret sounds akin to her Dia from the same show and she's a delight, she emphasizes the awkwardness of Satou and kept me very amused through her scenes. Excited for episode 3.

Marchi as Himari sounds fine, what one'd expect from Marchi, though she also narrates and it reminds me of her narration in Hetalia so I keep expecting her to randomly insult someone's nationality (bless the Hetalia dub it's beautiful).

And that leaves Doty as Machi and her performace is interesting; it's a bit deeper a voice than expected and more level than one might expect thus far. It might be one that throws people off but I caught glimpses of a solid performance in there with what little we get in ep 1 in terms of personality, so I'm excited for next week when we get to hear her stretch her acting chops.

So yeah, I'm not super harsh on dubs in general (I've sat through some very mediocre ones just for one good performance and I'm basically a living index of anime dub voice actors) but I think it's pretty solid all things considered. The mixing could use a liiiiittle work I feel but not bad at all.

Also in regards to the "sounds like a Let's Player" thing, I don't hear it, but fun fact, Alejandro Saab, voice in recent Funimation works like Kiss Him Not Me and Akiba's Trip, is in fact a Let's Player! The more you know~

bruhh where you watching this because FUNimation isn't working.

Thoughts on the dub:

The short clip I saw did both Hikari's and Takahashi's VA injustice. They're both great, like I say Hikari's English VA is right next to her original one while Takahashi's just slightly below his original one. I do like English Takahashi quite a bit though. Mixing needs work, I swear I can hear echoes in some of the VA's lines.

Himari sorta remembers me of Chloe in Spice and Wolf, she's okay. She gets the job done, not superior to the original but not inferior either. They're the same.

Yuuki's English VA is spot on so like good work Huniepop girl.

I know I already talked about Hikari's VA but damn I love the flair she puts on the character's voice, she's really good!

Satou sounds like a big nerd and that's totally fine. I still prefer the original due to having more energy behind her voice but this is still good. A bit inferior to the Japanese VA but it's not a huge drop.

Sadly, Machi is probably the worst of the bunch. Like her voice sounds bit like a robot in the first few minutes you see here and sure the deeper voice is fine-ish but like...ehhhh...it's not RUINED FOREVER but like, why must my favorite character get the short end of the stick. She's just...eh. @gotMLK17 I'm trusting you on this one but so far Machi is not impressing me at all.

So overall, dub is solid. While not Spice and Wolf/Big O tier of good, it's decent. At best, certain characters shine, at worst, one or two characters aren't as good as their fellow cast members but that's okay.

tl;dr

Hikari VA: Tie/JPN wins by a millimeter
Takahashi VA: JPN wins by a centimeter.
Satou VA: JPN wins by an inch. (Fuck you we're using imperial units now.)
Kusakabe VA: Tie/Probably USA once she gets more lines.
Himari VA: Tie
Machi VA: JPN wins by a meter. (Sadly.)

BTW are they releasing the english episodes every Wednesday now or somethin'?
