In The Name Of The Moon: Sailor Moon Ideas, Recs and Fic Discussion thread

I don't know much about cyberpunk either, but if it's AI and cyborgs you want, Mugen Academy has both in canon. Possibly the BMC too, depending on how you want to play the 'droids'.

So you say Ami or Sailor Mercury is not Smart Enough to Out Hack Future A.I. and how the Old Net failed due to Rache Bartmoss shenanigans? Can one Magic Supercomputer out compute a World Network? Is Ancient Computer Better or get a Virus?
How did you reach that conclusion?

Because I would say that hacking doesn't help the Cyberpunk settings, no matter how good or bad you are.

Now, any motivated Senshi most certainly has the power to throw hands with anything in the setting, as long as they don't care a out collateral damage, but that has nothing to do with hacking.

Do you want a super-hacker history? Go nuts, but I wouldn't use Amy for that since she is more interested in medicine, and it would be far more interesting in turn to see what does she do with cyberware.

Ami and Pluto are definitely the computer girls of the Senshi, but Luna and Artemis are pretty good too.

EDIT: Or at least one of them is. I'd have to check.

Do we have any confirmation that Selene (Queen Serenity during the Silver Millennium) is the one who actually arranged the reincarnation of the Senshi?

Because Saturn is the one with a spell named, approximately, "Cycle of Death and Rebirth", and we know she used it or something like it either during or after Metallia's attack.

In the anime, yes. Queen Serenity uses the last bit of power she has to reincarnate everyone.
In the manga, the answer is still yes, but with the caveat that we know the Outers didn't die with everyone else. They showed up after the attack was over to summon Saturn as the demolition crew, and they died then with any remaining stragglers. (Pluto probably dipped out nanoseconds before Saturn brought her glaive down, but that's my headcanon.)
Side note: this is why I don't think Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune went through the same reincarnation cycle as the other senshi. I think everyone who died in the first round went straight to the 20th century, but Saturn and anyone that was with her went the long way around to arrive at the same point.

Which chapter is the confirmation in?
Act 10, where they go to the moon and you get all the back story from Queen Serenity.

Edit: actually, I stand corrected. I reread it, and Queen Serenity doesn't say a word about sending everyone to be reincarnated. She only mentions putting the cats into deep sleep and saying that part of why Usagi was reborn was to be a normal girl.

Now, Act 33 is where the Outers talk about going to the moon and summoning Saturn, but the only thing they mention about being reincarnated is in Act 32 when they said someone promised them that they would be. They don't say if the Queen said it or if Saturn said it.

So, we don't really know who did the reincarnating in the manga or if the nature of Sailor Crystals is such that reincarnation is just A Thing That They Do, especially knowing about the Galaxy Cauldron.

IIRC, the only case where they specifically say that a particular character caused someone else to reincarnate is Pluto saying that Usagi (NQS) reincarnated her back in time to the 20th century, from the 30th century, in Act 32.

In general, I lean towards "reincarnation is just a Thing in this setting, especially for Sailor Crystals", but the fact that they all showed up in the 20th century feels like more than coincidence.

So either there's some general law that certain people reincarnate together, or someone intervened.

Candidates I can think of for direct intervention:
  1. Tsukino Usagi, just like with Pluto (This would either mean that she controlled her own reincarnation, and those of others, while dead, or that she did it while she was killing herself)
  2. Sailor Saturn, with her powers over the "cycle of death and rebirth"
  3. Queen Serenity 1 (Selene), because she did one of the other big notable things that happened at that time and place (sealing Metallia), and did some things that implied she knew it was going to happen (the cats and her message)
  4. Guardian Cosmos (possibly a special case of Tsukino Usagi)

It can totally be both.

Sailor Crystals come in groups, but Queen Serenity had to be aware that she didn't use the Silver Crystal at full power when she sealed Metalia. I'm hypothesizing, but maybe she held back on purpose. She could use all of the power at her disposal to defeat Metalia, but assuming it didn't kill her in the process, she might not be able to resurrect anyone. Or she goes easy on Metalia, doesn't die, and has enough power to reincarnate everyone.

But that said, I think it'd be fun to see fanfic about their various reincarnations. Earth had to evolve all over again after that, so lots of potential.

In the comics, she specifically says that the reason she was unable to seal/destroy Metallia properly was because of her grief over Princess Serenity's death. (Act 10)

This is just a couple of pages before she says that the Silver Crystal is dependent on its user's emotions in order to function. (Also Act 10)

For comparison, she sealed Nehelenia, who's also and Aspect of Chaos like Metallia, with basically no fuss. (Act 48)

I've also randomly now got a strong hankering for a story where Hotaru is the protagonist who has to get people together to fight the Dark Kingdom.

Like, her dad still does crazy science stuff and her mom is dead, but there's no big accident in the past and no Mistress Nine (yet).

One day Hotaru meets this cat, Artemis, who tells her that she is Sailor Saturn, the Guardian of Silence, with the power to pull out negative energy afflicting people and eradicate the youma that are preying on humanity.

Hotaru is basically a quiet loner who doesn't have a lot of friends, but I could buy that she'd totally try to be a super-spy secret agent even if her skills don't really work that way, sneaking into various buildings to check for Dark Kingdom plots before getting shabby with the Silence Glaive.

(There would also be a Sailor Moon running around with Luna, but Moon is really busy because she can teleport from anywhere that the moon is visible in the sky to anywhere that the moon is visible in the sky, so she's handling all the international DK plots and is run off her feet. I haven't decided what Tuxedo Kamen would do, but he and Sailor Moon might be a duo who play Big Sibling Mentor to Hotaru in their spare time.)

Hotaru slowing meeting people and making friends as she fights the youma just seems sort of adorable to me right now.

I can't decide whether I'd age her up to equal the other Inner Senshi or whether I'd keep her younger but make her competent and experienced enough that the others defer to her anyway, so there's a number of different places I could take the story.

I just love the idea of Sailor Saturn being a total Cold Ham who is secretly super-excited to get to play at being a stone cold secret agent going on missions to prevent monsters from preying on innocent people. So definitely leaning toward a comedy/action story despite moments of seriousness and drama.
I tossed this idea around a while ago and now I might write a chapter or two of it for a contest.

It's been a while since I checked the Death Busters arc, any ideas for stuff I could do involving the (non-evil) Witches Five getting targeted by youma for Hotaru to want to rescue them?

Also, I'm thinking the first Senshi I might have Hotaru find would be Makoto, because she would smack down anyone messing with Hotaru and stuff the shrimp boat full of good food.

My other thought is Minako who would totally roll with Hotaru's super-spy cos-play gig. Opinions?

... isn't Saturn's powerset more of a super-scry than a super-spy?

EDIT:

Oh, what if she's mission control?

She can sit in the base and scry everything, and then pass info to the agents "on the ground".

Yes, but this is an AU anyway so I'm just changing that.
I'm now very interested in Uranus' reaction.
Also, how will the whole thing work storywise, considering that the Inners dealt with relatively weaker threats till they grew more experienced and powerful? And, to be honest, even a newly-Awakened Saturn absolutely curbstomps the rest of the Senshi at the same time(until Moon gets her OP powerups). How would you add them to the story in a way that does not render them pointless?

If you must make it about the capacity for violence:

Sailor Planet Power Meditation

AKA: combo attacks, like any good Sentai team.

Hotaru is going to have a hard time using magic in any way that isn't ridiculously overkill for at least her first few enemies if she can use spells at all, meaning she has to just stab them with the Silence Glaive instead.

Which is going to require a small girl to wield an oversized pole arm well enough to hit a youma in a vulnerable spot.

There's going to be some comedy mixed in with the dramatic fighting.

I figure I'll get her healing powers and then the Silence Shield showing up first, and whichever Senshi shows up first as part of her team is going to have the job of chasing down the youma and making it hold still long enough for Hotaru to stab them.

Hotaru: "Hold still and let me stab you!"

MotW: "No way!!!"

There's going to be serious stuff too, but I figure I should work in some comedy as well.

Maybe she's different in the cartoons, but I feel like this Hotaru/Saturn's personality is very different from the OTL Hotaru/Saturn.

What personality traits / mannerisms does she share with her OTL counterpart?

She'd still have a goth-style fashion sense and be an introvert with few/no friends, and she'd still mostly be serious but also be amusingly Cold Ham dramatic the way canon-Sailor Saturn was about being an Apocalypse Maiden.

However, she'd be the Main Character and thus prone to the normal foibles and errors an MC can suffer and grow from rather than being the Cool Sixth Ranger who shows up to turn the tides at the last minute.

There are going to be differences as a result of Hotaru not being possessed by Mistress 9 from a young age, but I'm imagining her being more Comically Serious than zany (which is why I'm thinking enthusiastic Minako would be a good teammate to play her off of).

I think some of Hotaru's goth-ness comes from her powers.

Constantly seeing visions of death and calamity seems like it could be traumatic, and she's noted as appearing particularly "cold" and Saturn-like after summoning a vision of Helios's death by playing the violin during a music lesson.

When she summons that vision, and she chases after it, it's not clear if she's trying to prevent the outcome, or just wants to see Chibi again

If she is trying to change the outcome, that might tie into her interest in Virgil's poetry, particularly the Aeneid's themes of preordained fates/deaths.

Free fanfic idea to a good home.

Premise: Yet another Jadeite resurrection story. He's thawed out from his crystal prison(you decide how), and he wants to get the band back together to do villain stuff (you decide what). The problem is that he has to figure out where the other Shitennou are or if they're even alive.

Are they alive? Yes, for the purpose of this story. They're alive with no memory of what happened, because the big reset Serenity did at the end of Season 1 to resurrect the senshi affected everyone but Jadeite. Up to you if Beryl's alive or if she was too corrupt to live, but I can see Jadeite getting his revenge on her because she'd be a normal human.

When: After Stars/Galaxia. As far in the future as you want. It can be the next year. It can be during Crystal Tokyo. It can be far enough ahead that this becomes Chibi-Usa's problem.

Conflicts: The implications of being resurrected and remembering who you were. Kind of glazed over with the senshi, but this is a good chance to dig into it with the Shitennou. Especially Nephrite. Quality angst fuel. But this is also your chance to give them redemption and set them up as Endymion's guard/court as they should have been in the anime. Also good for Rei/Jadeite shippers and Naru/Nephrite shippers.
