In The Name Of The Moon: Sailor Moon Ideas, Recs and Fic Discussion thread

Anyone got recs for good SM fanfic? Recently watched the R movie and feeling nostalgic

If you don't mind something grim and a little scary, Celestial Warrior Moon was really good, basically being a Fantasy Kitchen Sink world with a masquerade where there's stuff like CreepyPasta Slender Man as well as the Dark Kingdom trying to take over the world. It has an actual organization of Moon Kingdom survivors (though less than a dozen, of whom Luna and Artemis are two) and the girls needing to learn some fighting skills and tactics and magical theory beyond just using their powers.

Sailor Moon FOREVER basically involves things quieting down for a few years, the Senshi going into semi-retirement, and then a new big threat showing up (or technically two threats) and them needing to come back again.

If you don't mind something that is a bit angsty, A Brief History of Histories has the Senshi being background-swapped, so Usagi is Sailor Moon but she has Rei's background... except where Rei was raised with her grandfather, Usagi is still stuck with her emotionally neglectful politician father who is very disappointed at her lack of academic achievements, so she's much more of woobie and Luna needs to build up her self-esteem.

A collection of unrelated ideas:

  • SM/SAO crack: in the game, death is real and permanent. In the real world, it isn't.
  • Sailor Moon written in Lovecraftian style, with the Senshi described like strange eldritch cosmic beings
  • "Sailor Saturn's Quest for World Domination": A crack story/quest about Hotaru scheming to make Crystal Tokyo happen, so that her girlfriend will be the crown princess of the entire solar system! Usagi and the Inners aren't particularly motivated to do it, but Hotaru has dreams! Dreams that will not be denied by Usagi's desire to sleep until noon and play videogames all day!
  • Chibi grows up to be as tall as Mamoru, and Usagi gets height envy
  • spitefic in which the destruction caused by the Black Moon Clan's attacks in the 30th century is what causes Crystal Tokyo to go from merely the preeminent global power (like America post-Cold-War) to actually ruling the entire world. (Because the only infrastructure left intact is whatever NQS can conjure up)
  • Fluffy story about Luna helping Usagi with homework/studying 'cause her parents won't sit down with her and help her focus on it
  • Manga!Kunzite resists Beryl's mind control and runs off with Mamoru's corpse, leaving Beryl without a love interest to zombify
  • Chibitaru fantasy AU where Hotaru is an edgy Paladin and Chibi is a pastel vampire
  • post-Stars Senshi LARPing their old adventures, but with more friends involved, and they don't remember all the details correctly.
  • pre-series Minako runs into pre-series Ranma and decides Martial Arts is more fun than school so she runs off and joins his adventures
  • Pluto is a Keyblade wielder, so Chibi shows up with a Keyblade too (or maybe gets dragged into Kingdom Hearts shenanigans). Less feelings of inadequacy from not having powers, more crossover trouble.
  • Serenity and Endymion are reborn as a plural system, sharing the same body.

Article:
Cosmos: "Sailor Moon! You must destroy the Galaxy Cauldron, or else Chaos will be reborn endlessly!"
Kyubey: "I can't let you do that, Usagi."

Usagi Quest has updated recently.

  • post-Stars Senshi LARPing their old adventures, but with more friends involved, and they don't remember all the details correctly.
And the new friends are much faster to pick up on patterns, etc., than the Senshi were in real life so the Senshi start to sulk that they're getting a MST 3,000 treatment retroactively.

Naru especially would enjoy the chance to kick a bunch of monster ass.

I mean, it's probably a lot easier if you have a limited cast of characters, played by people who you know quite well.

For those of you who are also Doctor who fans. How do you think the Sailor Scouts would have handled the ending of Dot and Bubble?

Well, Manga Usagi might've just let them go, revived them after they got killed, and then made them the offer again. Anything after that would be on them.

Anime Usagi would have skipped straight to the part where she saved them anyway, possibly by demonstrating insane magical nonsense.

sailor moon: Does crystal Tokyo have a royal zoo and what happens there?

Of Course

It was a pity how many of the animals here weren't real. Clever illusions animated by sorcery embedded in their exhibits. But so little had survived the Great Freeze and what had, was very much needed. Cold-adapted fish, chickens, a variety of different insects… All of which had their place, of course, but the majesty of an elephant and the roar of a lion could only be recreated now, instead of having a true example of such.

There were more animals in the royal zoo than just the ones that had lived at the very moment of transition between one era and the next. Images of dinosaurs sprung to life while plodding along next to replicas of extremely fluffy sheep. Winged creatures from all eras that had only survived in the Mercury Laptop's databanks, whether as in-person recordings or scans of old books soared overhead, projected upwards by discreetly hidden emitters. Indeed, the few real birds at the zoo were considered something of a letdown, since they were far smaller, less colorful and had to stay in (large, walkable, admittedly) exhibits instead of going up and down the length of the zoo.

There were a few of the war-beasts, melded animals and alchemical creations made during the Greet Freeze that were considered safe enough to be exposed to the public. The oldest people besides the Senshi still living could remember when those creatures had stalked snowy wastes, hunting travelers, or had broken down bunker doors at the command of their creators. And so rarely missed a chance to disapprovingly lecture anyone younger who had anything positive to say about the aesthetic appearance of the animals at all.

Labs worked into the zoo were working at bringing extinct species back to life, whether in their original state or melded with magic to create a chimera that could at least look and act like what the Sailor Senshi, and the ten of them alone, remembered them as being. And if they focused on creatures from their long-lost childhoods when were billions of people lived on every continent but the south-most one instead of millions clustered around the palace, who could really object to that?

It was still a very popular attraction for people of all ages and whenever the teams of geneticists and mages announced that they had a viable specimen to introduce, it was always a major event. A packed park, strict quotas on how long people could look at the new animal before getting shuffled along to let more people in and a member of the royal family attending. Often the queen herself, going into the exhibit to pet and display the newest addition but her husband or daughter could also be there.

The ruling council of Crystal Tokyo had other projects that they were prouder of, health care and education and housing. But it was hard to deny that there was anything that they had done that was more popular.

Including with Queen Neo-Serenity, given how quickly plans for more funding for the zoo were always approved.

Backstage stuff for the Halloween Party

At The Halloween Party

"I think it's a bit lame to come to a costume party dressed up as your friend," Luz said. "I mean, it's Halloween! It's time to get really wild and dress up in something really cool." She tapped her own floofy, nigh-conical princess dress as demonstration.

"If you had to go as one of the other Sailor Senshi, Saturn has the same kind of hair as you," Satsuki said, flicking her hand through her own long, black, straight hair. "Much better to coordinate like that." Her own Fate/Go outfit obviously required double-sided tape to keep her from bouncing out of it and it was an open question of tape had actually been used.

"I'm not going as Sailor Venus," Rei said, glancing down at her white and yellow outfit. "I'm going as a supernaturally skilled warrior who has died and come back to life twice. Very fitting for Halloween.

"Who's called Sailor Venus," Satsuki said flatly.

"Well, yes," Rei said with a shrug. "She refused to leave my apartment until I agreed and she restitched one of her own costumes for me."

"While I," Asuka said, intruding on their conversation and patting her own chest, running her hand down along the red and black corset and swishing her red cape back and forth around her ankles, "am appearing as the fearless leader and you can tell Ruby's the leader because she's the red one."

"Red ones are always the best, most important character in the show," Rei said in full agreement, getting a shout of agreement from Kyouko who was bent over a caramel apple, trying to get as many chocolate bits, sprinkles and anything else in arm's reach to stick to it as possible. "It's something more people could benefit from understanding."

"What are we understanding?" Shampoo asked as she slipped on by.

"Something else, but it must feel nice to be able to be perfectly understood now, huh?" Luz asked.

"Yes," Shampoo said with a firm nod as she knocked back her glass. "No more 'so-so unlucky, ancient Amazon code say you must do this and that'. I still have the accent."

"Which sounds cute on you, by the way," Amity said, linking a metal-clad arm around her princess's waist.

"Thank you, but I understood how Japanese and English grammar work a long time ago," Shampoo said with a frown. "I hope that people start understanding that now when they see me not speaking like that."

"Your new debut should be next week? Week after that?" Rei asked as she nibbled on her tray of sugary snacks.

"Can't say quite yet. You know how it is," Shampoo said with a roll of her eyes. "But I hope it will get people to see me in a whole new light."

"Hear you in a whole new… echo, surely," Satsuki said, raising one of her nearly-rectangular eyebrows.

Further conversation on that topic was interrupted as the first proper event of the evening finally started. It wasn't scheduled but Bonesaw and Chibi-Usa both protesting loudly over being told to play together as fellow kids was certainly the sort of thing that would spark stories to be recounted in future Halloween parties.

And wasn't making memories exactly what this sort of thing was about?

So in DC Comics, there's this title there's this referred to as Absolute Justice where the concept is " What if the heroes didn't have the most famous aspects that help made them what they were" Like Superman not being raised by the Kents and being a drifter, Batman never been rich and is just a middle class worker, and Wonder Woman not growing up as royal on an all woman island but instead being raised in hell.

This made me came up with an idea... What if the Sailor Guardians had the same treatment of "not having aspects that help made them what they were" For example Ami no longer has her extreme intelligence and just has an average IQ and Mina instead of being beautiful she's not that great looking or she doesn't want to be special.

Anyone else got their own ideas? I'm happy to hear your replies.

Hmmm, the thing is these are traits absent due to a change in circumstance not just randomly taken out, if anything from what I recall Diana is meant to have "Innate compassion" hence gently telling a lizard that attacked her "no" then patting it to calm it down.

Basically it a circumstances swap, rather than a personality trait removal thing, so I feel the example might be different, like Makoto having parents, or Rei not being raised in the shrine, ETC.

There was the story A Brief History of Histories that swapped the Senshi backgrounds so Ami lost her parents in a plane crash, Usagi grew up with a dead mother and cold politician father, etc.

There are a lot of things you can play with here.
What if the Senshi were found in a different order, or what if Luna and Artemis found someone else first?
What if Ami's parents didn't get divorced?

What about:

FGO / Sailor Moon fusion, where Chibi is the Last Master in a 30th century Chaldea.
Any fusion will have a lot of work to do... And not only in the power levels department.

Seriously, what the heck is Gaia in a Sailor Moon context? Or a Senshi in a Fateverse one? Be prepared for some fan somewhere being ready to piss in your cereal for misinterpreting his fandom. I certainly will be eating watermelon in preparation for when (or if) a Senshi gets punked below the rank of a TYPE, since that would not make any sense at all.

That being said, how does your idea change the plot of the game? What difference does Chibi makes that Ritsuka doesn't? Because I will also be drinking lemonade and aiming for your cereal if you make Ritsuka somehow less competent than Chibi. I'm not sure what to say, without an actual plot outline to think about. By the way, which Sailor Moon continuity and timeline is this?

And, if you want to expand beyond FGO, Mina should adopt TYPE Venus and be cute, only for Amy to do the same with TYPE Mercury and be cute! Only in her mind. For the amusement of the rest of the world. Wait a minute, what would be the relation here with Arcueid? My head hurts... Whatever is decided, she must go Phantasmoon, for the memes.

I'm only familiar with the manga continuity of Sailor Moon, and I was imagining this as mostly a Sailor Moon story with ideas from FGO.

This would be set in either:
  • The BMC arc, before Chibi gets her Senshi powers, with the BMC messing with the timeline to create singularities
  • The Stars arc, with Galaxia making a huge singularity in '96-'97 by killing Endymion and abducting his Sailor Crystal.
