I don't want control over what HAPPENS to us. I want control over how we react, or how we prepare! That's half the fun of quests! If I really wanted to control the future, I'd prepare beforehand and try to steer the plot a certain way - neither the players nor the main character should have any plausible reason why they can control how the world around them works, and that's alright with me.

This is a story about being a character in a story. Steering the plot a certain way, away from us being a background character, is the basic goal of this quest.

And with the way meta-knowledge has ~mysteriously~ popped up in his head, I'd say it's plausible that he can also affect the plot. ... At least, we have no idea how THAT worked, so adding something else completely unexplained doesn't hurt suspension of disbelief much more than it already was.

No matter how much I want us to be seen in the main anime again, I think this is probably a better option.
 
any of them really... they all involve misdirection and traps to allow a 10-12 year old boy with 0 training to take on two experienced burglars and win (or at least the one I saw... though I think I saw at least two and both had the same bad guys... at least I remember the kid getting left behind for Summer Vaca(I think it was that... it was something like that) and Christmas(this one I am POSITIVE on)

I just hope it wasn't the one where his identity was known by our former final season boss.
