The Waystation can be built in a couple of turns depending on what happens but it's best to be fully situated before we start having visitors. plus this keeps certain groups from learning about our existence before we are ready for them.
Not like there's anything else that you could do with it, and you're not exactly swimming in cash to the point that you can use it as a shiny paperweight.
Getting the waystation is rather tempting to me. Also the Perimeter sensors. Is certain groups and what would others think if we bring Pokemon from underground just for someone to go a steal them to make them a shadow pokemon.

[X] Plan: Savings for Waystation
[X] Plan: Startup with Holding corral
Getting the corral would probably be a good ideal. But I don't want to make a plan so eh.
This is roughly around the time Colosseum is starting. Team Snagem are a well-known gang of poachers that pick off individual trainers with relatively low-power pokemon. CIPHER hasn't been exposed and is doing their thing in the shadows. Wes is still contemplating leaving Snagem at the moment, but hasn't committed yet.
You may encounter Wes and Rui eventually, but let's just say that there's a reason Wes wasn't just buried in bodies...
Suppose one possibility for who might show up at the Waystation. Let alone at this point in time and looking at things a certain way the Homestead could be the closest to Poke Lab. In the sense of still being rather far from being a Poke lab, but has researchers and stuff at least.
..Granted now have the thought of them being the Precursor of the lab now. Kinda funny and certainly know in the games there's differences with the map like that one underground location that in XD is no longer accessible.
...Hm...Wonder if there might be a hidden access leading there or something...
[X] Plan: Startup with Holding corral
-[x]Plains Biome: 100,000 - One of the simplest of the biomes to set up, creates a large field with a wide variety of wildflowers and other grassy plants. Comes with a small pond for drinking water.
-[x]Berry Greenhouse: 250,000 - A specialized biome used for the growing of berries that require specialized environments. Can be upgraded further to allow for larger berry harvests and more rations for deeper delves. Occasionally may have wild pokemon come up from below looking for food. Higher level means rarer mon. Required for specialized biomes
-[x]Medical Lab: 250,000 - An array of sensors and scanners that can be used to scan pokemon outside their pokeballs for analysis of their physical characteristics, any abnormalities or unique features are able to be more easily identified. Includes a genetic assay machine to decode a pokemon's ancestry. Adds +20 to rolls for studying pokemon.
-[x]Satellite Uplink: 145,000 - Allows for satellite phone calls, receives TV and radio broadcasts, it can transmit local radio signals as well.
-[x]Full furnishings: 225,000 - Furniture, bedding, kitchen utensils and various appliances to make living at the Homestead much more comfortable for all members of the expedition. Lowers failure rate of rolls due to being comfortable and well-rested.
-[x]Courier Perch: 85,000 - A perch for a dedicated Courier Pidgeot; speeds up transit of deliveries. Will not assist in defending against bandits.
-[x]Perimeter Sensor Network: 150,000 Gives a better chance of detecting attempts to enter the Homestead or the Biomes without authorization. Easier chance to detect incoming bandits or gangs.
-[X]Holding Corral: 75,000 The most basic of basic, provides shelter and a feeding box.
We are going to need the Holding Corral for any mon that isn't a plains dweller. It's far from ideal, but it'd still be a better match than trying to push them all into the plains. It uses up a lot of money but frankly better we have it now than need it later, especially since we have no idea what we could run into down there.

Since we found Crescent with a Black Augurite in the cavern. And since Metal coat is a man made thing outside of certain natural circumstances.
Kleavors will most likely be abundant down in the Orre Underground. Not that anyone knows that fact just yet.
Since we found Crescent with a Black Augurite in the cavern. And since Metal coat is a man made thing outside of certain natural circumstances.
Kleavors will most likely be abundant down in the Orre Underground. Not that anyone knows that fact just yet.
There are two Pokémon that use Metal Coat to evolve; Scizor and Steelix. There are no wild Scizors, but there are wild Steelix. The pokédex entry actually explains this as a result of Onix eating iron rich rocks, and being transformed from heat and pressure underground. Some wild steel Pokémon, mostly with magnetic properties, have a chance of holding a Metal Coat. This makes me think that Metal Coat is the literal coating of metal that forms on magnetically attractive Pokémon. Having a wild Scyther meet one of these Pokémon naturally would be almost impossible, but there is a chance it may happen in the Orre Underground.
Feels like I'm trying to write a dissertation to become a Pokémon professor.
Considering our character is a college student and we're being funded by a college bored..... I would say right up a character sheet with a picture of what you want to look like and RP that as much as possible and you might be able to become a supporting character in the future. And if not might give you a fanfiction idea for later
Prof Saguero - The sponsor of this expedition and someone who has been willing to back the stories from your grandfather that you'd shared in order to see if there's more to Orre than meets the eye. The man specializes in the study of pokemon biospheres and how to terraform areas to support pokemon better. His main pokemon partner is an aged Aggron.
Miss Sandy Santiago - One of the aides that the Prof brought, she's a cheerful woman who loves working with the soil. Though Orre's barren ground has been sorely testing that love. She tends the berry patch, experimenting with different fertilizers and composts to boost growth and berry production. Her main pokemon partner is Meganium.
Owen Clark - One of the professor's aides, he's been studying archeology and paleontology. Wants to be the person to discover the next "new" Fossil Pokemon. His partner Aipom assists him by handing him tools and other items while he's working, while his Luxray examines ores and other materials to spot fossils; speeding up the acquisition process.
Maureen Glimm - Another of the Professor's aides, she's the technology specialist of the team. Forever experimenting with inventions to make the excursions easier, you sometimes have to wonder who's the worst influence. Her Rotom partner on her, or her on her Rotom partner. The fact that she calls her inventions her "babies" is also another quirk that you've learned to live with.
Kent Osborne - the security hired by the Prof. Guy seems professional enough, and he and his Pangoro are plenty tough, but man; the guy refuses to talk about anything not related to work! His Mr. Rime on the other hand acts the clown all the time, using his partners as straight men in his gags.
Jasmine Roqette - The medical specialist. Is working towards a doctorate in using pokemon-created toxins and poisons to create medicine and antivenoms. She's a bit on the dramatic side, and her Meowth and Growlithe are forever having to corral her when she gets fixated on something (or angry); while her Dustox seems to just enjoy egging her on. Her Ekans just spectates until a nice Calm-down Hug (tm) is called for. Hails from Kanto apparently.
AN: The next update is almost done, promise. It's just been dragging hard. So have some character information and some minor spoilers!
What's to be concerned about? Jessie and James retired. They and their pokémon had kids(yay James got Growlie back!) and now their daughter is following in her mom's original footsteps of going into the medical field! With a Poison Type twist because Rocket did love their Poison types.
You could maybe use a face claim from one of the Jurassic World: Chaos Theory characters? That fits Owen's deal. The Jurassic World movie even had an Owen, heh.

Gathering up the materials that you and the Professor had elected to buy up with the funds you had available had taken a lot of thought, but eventually you'd settled on a list. The Plains Biome wasn't as general as the Holding Corral, but it would do for most Pokémon so long as they weren't especially specialized; though they may not be as happy as they could be.
The Berry Greenhouse biome and the Medical Lab were both critical picks. The Berry Greenhouse meant that you wouldn't have to worry about running out of berries; and if you found any interesting specimens during your delves you'd be able to grow them, or at least keep them in storage until the upgraded facilities were affordable.
The Medical Lab on the other hand was absolutely necessary if you wanted to be able to do in-depth studies on the mon that you brought back up to the surface. Especially the GAM or Genetic Assay Machine being able to assess a Pokémon's ancestry. That would be vital in determining what kind of adaptations they may have obtained over the generations and how. It would also allow for you to make sure that if you brought up some unknown variant of PokeRus or some other more serious disease that it would be caught before introducing a mon into the general population of their biome.
A Satellite uplink was crucial for keeping informed of the regional news. Gang movements and major events could potentially impact the expedition; and at absolute worst you could call for help from the locals if you were hit by a gang. A courier's perch also meant that if you found more fossils, you'd be able to get them back in a timely manner, as well as selling off other finds. Which meant the money hitting your account that much faster, allowing you to buy more upgrades faster. The Courier Pidgeot was a sleek, aloof bird that seemed to be a bit resigned to his posting. Though you'd made sure that the nesting box was rated for sandstorms and hot weather. No reason for him to be more uncomfortable than he had to be.
Speaking of comfort, getting full furnishings for the Homestead's interior was going to go a long way towards keeping all the members of the Expedition in high spirits. You'd had to re-map the rooms a little, which frankly felt very strange setting up your grandparent's old room for use by the three female members of the team as it was the largest bedroom and had an attached en suite bathroom. At least you got to keep your room, while the remaining three men had repurposed two of the storerooms that Grandpa had used for general storage.
Finally there'd been the sensor network that you'd elected to buy up. It consisted of cameras under reflective silvered domes to keep the components from overheating in the sun, as well as contact sensors from a low voltage current being run through the fence's wiring in order to give an alert if the fence was breached somehow. All of it feeding back to a security monitoring setup manned by the Security Specialist's Porygon2.
Meeting all the members of the team had been interesting. You already had a passing acquaintance with three of them since they worked as Prof. Saguaro's aides. Sandy was an energetic young woman who hailed from Floccesy Town. Her specialty was botany and she was in charge of the Berry Greenhouse. Or at least she would be, once it was set up. As you disembark from your ride out to the Homestead, you see that at the moment she's creating test beds for berries to see what the local soil can support. You're pretty sure the answer is "nothing", but you're not about to tell her that! Especially not with the determined looking Meganium and Roserade bracketing her as she runs some kind of scanning device over the test beds.
"Oi, grab a box kid." The rough voice of the security specialist intruded on your thoughts. Kent Osbourne was... well "professional" was the first thing that came to mind. You'd spent the trip over in silence while he drove, the man not really engaging in much conversation no matter what topic you'd tried. All you really knew is that he apparently hailed from Iccirus but that was about the only thing that he'd been willing to share. You shook your head, breaking free of your thoughts as you went to grab a box.
You took a step and let out a high-pitched "whoop!" as your foot went out from under you. A large paw intercepted you before you hit the ground. The Pangoro grunted as it heaved you to your feet, before turning his gaze on the chortling Mr. Rime. The psychic ice type "tipped" it's "hat" before tapdancing away, a trail of boxes sliding behind on the path of ice he left in his wake. Right, not all of Osbourne's pokemon were apparently as professional as their trainer.
"Sorry kid, I'll give Charlie a good talkin' to. Even after he evolved he kinda kept a Fairy type's sense of humor, such as it is. Now here, these are supposed to be for the tech girl." The box you were holding has a second one stacked onto it, and you idly wonder when you'd become a pack Mudbray. You make your way inside and into the workshop that Maureen had converted from the room that your Grandpa had used for training when the windstorms were too bad but he was still recovering from a delve.
"Oh! Thanks Nick! Put 'em right there!" Maureen looked up from where she was arranging various tools and small scraps of electronics that you had absolutely no idea what their use was for. Her Rotom buzzed before forming its plasma shell into an arrow to "helpfully" point to where the boxes needed to go. Setting them down, you got a humming buzz that you interpreted as a "thank you" from the Magneton that was using their electromagnetic control to pull items out of the various boxes and put them in reach of their trainer for her to actually put away. You're sure there's some kind of system here, but you'll be damned to Distortion if you could figure it out...
Emerging from the resident "mad scientist's" chosen lair, you headed back outside. There were already two prefab buildings that had been set up. One of them was the lab containing all of the scanning equipment that the Professor had gotten for use in this expedition. The other was merely marked with a green cross over top of a pokeball, the international sign for a medical station. Grabbing some of the crates marked for it, you stepped inside, having to stutter-step in order to avoid the tail of the Ekans that was currently stretched out along the large aisle in the prefab. A Dustox was perched up on a cabinet out of most of the light, apparently snoozing. There was a low growl and a purr, and you managed to catch yourself before the Meowth and Growlithe that were the last of your on-site medic's pokemon, tripped you up.
The red-headed young woman turned with a smile. "Ah, thank you so much! I was hoping someone would take pity on a fragile blossom like myself." You looked at her deadpan. She was currently holding a centrifuge that weighed three times as much as the boxes you were carrying, without any hint of discomfort. You heard a snickering sound from the Meowth, which caused a vein on her forehead to begin to throb. "And what exactly is so funny, Fuzzy?!" She set the device down with a huff, turning to put her hands on her hips as she glared at her feline friend.
Jasmine Roqette was... a bit of a character. Hailing from the Kanto region, she had gone into the medical field due to an "old dream of my mom's". She'd eventually gotten into one of the many specialty programs for the university, specifically using poisons and other noxious substances produced by pokemon to create medicines. Not just simple antidotes to the effects they inflicted, but out-and-out medicines. The program had already produced some very promising results in medication to help deal with chronic shaking of limbs that used Stun Spore as a base; and Jasmine was their star student. You'd been a little surprised to see her name attached to this expedition, but then again you were aware of how many potentially toxic materials you might run across underground, especially if you stumbled into a poison-aspected habitat...
Setting down the boxes on an open shelf, you quickly made your escape as the volatile woman was drawn into a protracted argument with her Meowth. One that the feline seemed to be winning no less given the frustrated shriek you heard as you left the prefab.
"Hey Nick, a little help here!" You turned to see Owen, another of the Professor's aides, who was struggling with the main pole for the Courier Perch. The Pidgeot that had delivered it was currently perched on the roof of the lab prefab looking irritated. The Courier Perch was a bit of a misnomer, as it wasn't just a perch but also included a comfortable habitat for the Pidgeot to shelter in during inclement weather. Which judging by the faint tinge on the horizon, was likely to be coming in shortly.
You set to it with a will, hoisting the pole into place while Crescent and Ping both hovered and pushed against the habitat, Owen's Aipom perched on Ping's back and using them as a brace to push against. Finally the post sank into the hole that Owen's Sandshrew had carved out. The Pidgeot took off in a shower of grit, landing on the perch and inspecting the habitat carefully. Finally with a chirp that sounded a lot like "good enough" to your ears, he hopped inside, using his beak to close the interior door; there for privacy and security.
"I swear to Arceus these Courier Pidgeots are such primadonnas," Owen groaned as he wiped his forehead, before giving you a nod. "Thanks for the help, I've got some water in the lab mini-fridge that should be nice and cold." You nod back.
"Sounds good, but we should probably call everyone inside soon. See that red tinge on the horizon?" You point towards the south. Owen sighs, shoulders slumping.
"Sandstorm?"
"Probably. Gramps always told me that if I ever see a change of color on the horizon then you need to get under cover sooner rather than later. Thankfully the satellite uplink was already set up, so we should be able to get semi-decent reception for radio and tv."
"Does Orre even have anything on TV?" Owen tosses you a bottle as you follow him into the field lab. The other young man sucks down his water in record time while you take your time savoring the water. You crunch up the bottle and shrug.
"Dunno, usually I was playing around outside or helping Grandma with stuff." Owen looks at you incredulously before pointing at a window.
"Playing around out in that?! What the Distortion man; are you part Magmar or something?!" You shrug.
"I mean, I grew up with it; so I just adjusted to it early. Anyway, let's get back inside. I think Osbourne is looking for 'volunteers' to help him get the security system put up, and I'd rather avoid that. I may not mind the heat, but that doesn't mean I want to spend too much time out in it."
You and he had both entered, finding the Professor laying out a large map on the kitchen table. It seemed to be a topographical map with the tunnels that Ping had logged mapped out with depth markers along the routes. He turns to you and gives you a grin. "Ah, Nick, was wondering if you were going to come back in before the sandstorm hit." At your raised brow he merely indicates the tv screen off to one side showing the local weather report, an animated Sandshrew digging into cover before being obscured by a sandstorm. Certainly gets the point across.
"Given that that's supposed to be going on for at least a day or so, I figured now was the time to start planning our next moves now that we've got a proper expedition and base set up. Well, mostly," he amended as he glanced at the crates containing the materials for the two Biomes.

--[ ]Workshop Bungalow: 400,000 - A technical workshop with specialized tools for the creation of unique tools and gadgets. Adds a +40 to completion rolls for new gadgets.
--[ ]Waystation: 175,000 - A reception area for any travelers seeking refuge from the sandstorms or the sun. Rolls for possible random visitors, and allows for roaming traders to stop by to offer possible unique items, components for gadgets, or pokemon care items like enrichment toys, food, and even evolution items that aren't mined from the ground like the Up-Grade, Electrizer and Magmarizer.
--[ ]Micro-Revival Machine: 15,000,000: A fully assembled and university certified revivification machine assembly, the term "micro" is a bit of a misnomer as the entire machine is about the size of a van, including the maturation tank. On the bright side it also means that rather than having to hatch an egg, you start off with a fully-grown pokemon. The downside to that, of course, is that it has no context for the current age and may act aggressively.
-[ ]Assist Maureen with testing prototypes. Costs money for final product to be assembled, some require rare components.
--[ ]Acoustic Harmonizer - a Modified Ground Penetrating Radar that is set up to resonate with the harmonics of crystals such as Evolution Stones or certain types of fossils. Will add a +10 to hunting to stones and fossils. 0/250; $2,750
--[ ]Basic Sounder - Reveals how many AP a tunnel collapse will take. 0/75; $1,500
There will be a three-hour Moratorium

AN: Okay, so here we go. As a reminder the AP are now worth 3 rolls on an action and we're going for a week at a time. I'll also be rolling a 1d100 random event rolls. And yes, where you choose to dig for stuff will affect what you find.
Oh, and a freebie. If you hadn't gotten the Perch, you'd have had to wait until the next delve for any purchases to arrive.

We are low on funds and need more, and we should also keep a decent stock of cash in reserve for emergencies. So explore everything at a basic level, and use what we do have to maximize what we know about our territory so future AP gets us more money. Plus, mapping everything near us helps better plan future delves and prevent intrusion by either hungry 'Mon or other potential unknowns.
12 rolls for stuff we can sell, effectively guaranteeing the Sounder this turn, and getting halfway to the Harmonizer.
EDIT: missed the part about where the north tunnel goes, changed it to checking the walls.

The idea is we set up the biomes ASAP, and get supplies to help us make back all the money we spent. By going East from the Mushroom Biome I'm hoping we find where Crescent came from, a Bug Biome(?). Jasmine will certainly be happy with one of those poison mushrooms so may as well start there for study!
That's 11,500 of our 12,500, leaving us with 1,000, which isn't much but hopefully spending money will help us find money.
Seems like the guess was right - she is the TRio's kid. I wonder if there'll be any consequences of this... I certainly wouldn't mind any attackers suddenly finding themselves subject to the retribution of our favourite bunch of extremely kooky criminals.
