- [X] Why the fuck would I steal a paltry amount of goods from a mob boss when I have no reason to?

Stealing the max listed amount nets us 30 parts. Which is 270 gold from the hardware store.

Which is in turn significantly less than a single teaching session.

We would basically be shitting off a mob boss for mere convenience, which is just daft. -_-

Stealing from your employers is bad form. I also can't ignore the irony of us robbing someone who has never wronged us when the entire quest is about defending ourselves from those exact sort of people.

You know, actually learning more summoning Magic, like "what every summoner must always keep in mind", might be a good idea. Easier than learning how to fight from zero.

Not stealing this stuff sounds like the right choice even from a practical perspective, but I also don't want to play Def as a hypocrite.

Day 11
You end up leaving late into the night, schematics in hand. Your walk home is mostly uneventful. When you get home, you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, dreaming of building towers that touch the sky.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since you need to arrive early to teach your class, you end up leaving your home much earlier than you normally would.

A decision that you regretted as soon as you got into the city limits.

Walking through the city this early in the morning is... eerie. The streets, normally filled with people and noise are nearly abandoned. You only see the occasional city guard on patrol and people carrying heavy weapons and wearing heavier armor who could either be adventurers or particularly brazen criminals. If not for the lanterns that occasionally appear in the street, you wouldn't even be able to see anything around you. And even then, you can barely navigate through the streets. You find your gaze lingering on every shadow, as if someone is going to jump out and stab you when you turn your back.

You almost find yourself breathing a sigh of relief when you get to the Learning Center. You go inside and see Joseph sitting at the front desk.He waves at you as you enter.

"Hey, Def. You made it through the city alright?" Joseph asks.

"It's going to take some getting used to" You say.

"Well, you should be fine. The city is probably more dangerous." Joseph says. "Besides, you have the next two days off"

"Yeah" You say. Even if you aren't making any money tomorrow, at least you have the entire day to work on the tavern tomorrow. If you don't manage to get it done today, that is.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your class goes without incident. After the students file out, you start packing up your supplies. Which consist of a few schematics, vials of ink and some lesson plans. But before you leave, you see something out of the corner of your eye. A piece of paper that you didn't place there. In fact, you don't think it was there before.

"Well, it's either a blank sheet that I didn't notice, or a death threat. May as well figure out which it is.

Slowly, you take the paper.

Def,

Thank you for teaching your class. I've learned a lot about defending myself from 'vermin', a valuable skill these days. Especially where I live.

Unfortunately, I can't keep coming. I don't think I could build and complex traps. That, and I can't afford it. I'll do my best to stay alive. I hope you do the same.

Good luck.

Kira

You sigh as you put the paper away. You just lost a student. Maybe they couldn't really afford it. Maybe it's because you moved classes to the early morning. Hell, the sun didn't come out until halfway through the class.

Still, it's not like this was the end of the world. You just needed to keep going.

At least you have 675 Gold to help soften the blow.

We don't know if that is the case and you seem to have missed this bit:

Considering that not everyone is going to have the talent or the money to be able to afford the more complex traps we can probably expect to lose more students in the future once they learn the basics.

After this we really need to learn how to fight so that we can more easily defend ourselves.
