The Earth Sphere Partnership for Economic Renewal (ESPER)
The undersigned nations and polities (henceforth "the undersigned") commit to the establishment of a joint trade and economic framework based on principles of fairness, mutual growth, and responsible distribution of resources, without exploitation or profiteering.
The undersigned agree to enter into a fair trade bloc in which tariffs are reduced and harmonized, and trade practices standardized, with the exact terms established to promote each state or polity's sustainable economic growth, and with the intention of reducing or eliminating economic shocks or unfair competition.
The undersigned agree to provide data and expertise on their civilian technological advancements to the other members of the partnership, so long as such an action would not materially harm the well-being or prosperity of that nation or polity. In return, each recipient of sufficiently advanced economic development will appropriately compensate the supplying member for their contribution, in accordance with the costs of development and propagation. Member nations designated as economically underdeveloped shall have this requirement waived.
The undersigned nations agree to provide the other members of the partnership with most-favored status regarding the use of their trade infrastructure and freight vessels, ensuring that no other nation or polity receives more preferential treatment.
The undersigned nations agree to establish, by mutual consent, a set of universal trade standards, including but not limited to freight containers, shipping practices, and signs and signals.
The undersigned commit to refrain from participation in any economic bloc or trade organization whose standards or ethical guidelines are divergent from this partnership, and to strenuously avoid manipulation of differences or clashes in trade bloc policy for the establishment of unfair profits.
The undersigned agree to participate in yearly partnership conferences, with a rotating location, to engage in open and frank discussion regarding implementation of terms and such modifications as are deemed appropriate, as well as to improve diplomatic and economic ties.
Initial membership in this partnership will be determined by invitation from the United Federation of Islands as founding member; following the initial phase of ratification, further members may be invited by majority approval of all extant members.

We hope that by joining this partnership we pave the way not only for a renewed surge of prosperity and comfort within the Nephilim Republic, but to more systematically begin the process of assisting others achieve the same blessed status we have found for ourselves. All inhabitants of the earth sphere deserve the comforts and luxuries that have come from our association with space, not because they were able to afford it or were able to drive the right bargains, but because they are human beings deserving of dignity and security.
Let this be the start of a new, united world that can share in the fruits of technology and space, not beholden to greedy power brokers who would hoard the wealth of nations to themselves.

We have long been denied acession into Spacian trade blocs, reviled without due cause by those we would seek to aid. In contrast, the free peoples of Earth have welcomed us, and for that we are grateful. We are delighted to be allowed to join in the creation of the Earth-Space Partnership for Economic Renewal, and honored by the trust of the United Federation of Islands. Working hand in hand with the free people of Earth, we shall build prosperity for all!

To Deny Connections. To Deny Sovereignty. To Deny the March of Time.
These are the tools of the Imperialists who seek to crush the people beneath their boots. So we must embrace Connections, cherish Sovereignty, and accept the March of Time.
In creating this Partnership the people of the Earth Sphere have united their voices and told them "no". We of the South Seas Flotilla gladly add our voice to this Chorus, so that together we might bring a true Revolution—one where all peoples shall possess prosperity and be the masters of their own dignity.

Queen Margarete II, 20 km northeast of Attu Island
The pride of the CanMexican navy, the end goal of the Two Oceans Navy Project, looked like nothing so much as a floating parking lot with a tower on it as it rode the choppy waters of the Bering Strait. Squat and square, its flat-topped appearance belied an intensely, meticulously-balanced set of hulls and cutting-edge materials science designed to accommodate and launch both airplanes and mobile suits although, naturally, the technical priests in Vancouver had developed a new kind of plane that would require refitting to use immediately after the first ships of the class were launched. C'est, as they say, la guerre.
This particular ship was currently hosting the flag of Fourth Princess Catarina, Minister of the Navy and now a self-commissioned Admiral of the Fleet, who stood on the deck this spring day in the salt spray and assessed the three dozen new mobile suit pilots that had been so graciously been transferred to her command from the Royal Mobile Suit Corps. Three ranks of knights standing at attention despite the swaying deck and the petite, self-promoting madwoman eyeing them like potential lunch.
The Fourth Princess eventually came to a halt facing the center of the ranks, frill-skirted admiral's uniform rustling in the head wind.
"I'll keep this brief," Catarina said. "You're here because you're the best pilots I could skim off His Formerly Bachelor Highness and the Royal Mobile Suit Corps. Not the richest blood, not the oldest names, the best pilots."
She points to the front rank. "You twelve got fancy names and titles for your trouble. The Paladins of Apollo-Mithras. Congratulations. I'm sure you got a big speech from Oscar about your invincibility and fearlessness. Well you can godsdamned forget about that. The enemy is as unforgiving and pitiless as the ocean, and they will eat you alive without a second thought."
Catarina moved suddenly, snake-like, until she was toe-to-toe with one of the 'Paladins'. He only flinched slightly and kept his eyes level rather than boggling down at her now that she was more or less under his nose, which she took as a sign of good discipline. "What's your name, pilot?"
"Cyrus Torres, ma'am."
"Pilot Torres, why are you not introducing yourself with a Sir?"
"I was a commoner until I got field-dubbed for this position last week, ma'am. Shot down a couple of Type-10s and didn't know what was happening until His Highness was pinning a medal on me, ma'am."
"Are you afraid, Pilot Torres?"
"Terrified, ma'am."
The shark grin appeared. "Good. That might keep you alive longer. And just remember, the only thing up there that's gonna be scarier than a witch..."
Catarina shuddered, just a little bit, in anticipation of entering the cockpit later. "...is me."
Viggan-Seraph "Morningstar"
Low End Ace Custom, Modern Generation, Flight-type (Transforming) Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: C-
The first general Ace-type mobile suit to be salvaged by the Divine Monarchy of CanMexico was one that was ironically, in the ancient past, customized and upgraded by their sworn enemies, the Seraphim, and apparently used in orbital drop operations against targets in the northeastern North American Fallow Zone. One of the SAAB corporation's workhorse Viggan line from the Cataclysm era, the Viggan-Seraph was given the internal CanMex codename "Morningstar" for propaganda purposes. Boasting powerful beam weaponry, maneuverability-aiding wing binders, and a transformation system allowing it to match or surpass the similar "Waverider" forms of Republican T-Types and T+, the first run of this machine was immediately assigned to the top aces of both the Royal Mobile Suit Corps and the Royal CanMexican Navy, with a single example also being deployed to the Royal Space Force's garrison division. Whether the mistress's tools can be used to take apart the mistress's house, however, remains untested.
A-Minor High-Mobility "Harrow"
Unique, Modern Generation, High Mobility Flight-type Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: C (provisional)
Pulled damaged from the jungles of South America and experiencing a lengthy odyssey almost as complicated as the Amazonian Conflict itself, this A-Minor was repaired by ZOLON and ended up in the care of the Divine Monarchy of CanMexico after none of the royalist factions remaining in Jaburo after Princess Eva's death were willing to risk its fall into Republican hands. Political maneuvering within CanMex then saw it become the personal vehicle of the Kraken Princess Catarina, whose desire for greater control over, and war contributions from, the Royal CanMexican Navy led her to take on the roles of both fleet admiral and pilot in imitation of her fallen ally Eva. Dubbed "Harrow", the High-Mobility Flight-Type A-Minor shares many commonalities in its basic frame with other A-Minors excavated in the Americas such as Sedna and Nemesis, but is configured with modular heavy-duty rocket thrusters that allow straight-line speeds comparable to spaceplanes and maneuverability unmatched in pre-Cataclysm sub-A-types. While lacking Sedna's firepower, it more than makes up for the other CanMexican A-Minor's deficiencies in dogfighting.
Royal Army Intelligence Division Research Facility, Undisclosed Location, North America
Two men looked at a collection of men and women through a sheet of glass. All wearing blank white uniforms that were more like hospital gowns or smocks than anything, the people on the other side of the glass nonetheless diligently worked through reports on their mental state, emotions, facets of their daily lives, even dietary reports within the observation tank. It was rather like looking at an aquarium.
"I still can't believe in all this, Colonel. Psychics? I thought the witches had to clone those in their damned vats," one man said.
"They are indeed naturally-occurring, Major, or else where would they have gotten a source to copy in the first place?" Colonel Richter replied. "Whether there's a genetic factor, an epigenetic trigger based on stress, or elements of both is what we're not clear on, but the knowledge being shared in Ireland and research from the old Eagle Empire's facilities have proven that they've lived among us the entire time in one manner or another."
The Major sighed and tapped the metal implant at his temple. "I still trust ZOLON tech over all this. Are these kids going to be pilots or operatives?"
"Vocational testing comes later - soon, though. Basically anyone who has previous mobile suit experience is going to have to get thrown in the deep end."
"More of the RMSC poaching our assets."
"I wouldn't say that. We're going to have to work in tandem with them for some operations, and I made sure to personally vet the new pilots we assigned to the Bolivia purchases while I was down there."
"...you think you can do the same for the psychics?"
Colonel Richter gave his subordinate his usual practiced, bland smile. "Treat the extraordinary well, and I think you'll find it pays dividends."
Type-1 (Pre-Cataclysm) "Dawn"
Mass Production, Modern Generation, General Purpose Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: C
A large sample of the root of the Spacian lineage of mobile suits were excavated and repaired by CanMexico, ironically at almost the same time as the ribbon was finally cut on their Lunar Republic-produced domestic factory for the same basic design. Given the local reporting name "Dawn" (distinct from the codename for the factory-produced Type-1, "Aurora"), this initial slate of Type-1s was primarily kept in orbit by the Royal Space Force as a garrison force, though some other samples were purchased directly from Spacian concerns to be used for testing purposes within the Royal Mobile Suit Corps.
RB-Commando "Cazador"
High End Mass Production, Modern Generation, Special Operations Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: B
Another Spacian direct purchase, the RB-Commando type represents one of the most advanced "stealth" mass production mobile suits excavated from Pre-Cataclysm ruins. Designed with minimal heat signature in mind and modular, short-ranged, ballistic and explosive weapons, the "Cazador" is an ideal close-in ambush unit. Appropriately to the suit's nature, it's unclear on where or how the Royal Mobile Suit Corps intends to deploy them, though their experience in dealing with K-Type ambushes during the Amazonian conflict makes it likely they have doctrinal ideas in mind at least.
Type-S "Ego"
High End Limited Production, Modern Generation, Psionic-Use Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: A-
All data and speculation on the Royal Mobile Suit Corps' acquisition of Type-S mobile suits, their capabilities, and their deployments beyond acknowledgement of their existence has been redacted at the request of the Royal Army Intelligence Division.

"I don't like it."
"Why not."
"There was a dead guy in it."
"There was a dead guy next to it. Also come on, all the good mobile suits come from ancient battlefields. You think there aren't millennia-old corpses in those before the priest-archaeologists hose them down?"
"They were all just standing there, though. And that video..."
"Look, we're going to get shipped off to fight fucking cyborg zombies in either Wyoming or the other side of the damn planet. Both of those sound way worse than dead guy cooties."
"You can shoot zombies. You can't shoot ghosts."
"You got a priest's say-so on that? Who says you can't shoot ghosts?"
"I'm gonna apply to pilot one of the Type-2s."
"You realize the ones we've got here are black market stuff from space, not the new ones, right? And you're still gonna be fighting cyborg zombies."
E-Flat / E-Tempo "Memento Mori"
Mass Production, Ancient Generation, General Purpose Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: D
Lurid details of the aquisition of a large mobile suit force from a bunker in the North American Fallow Zone have been decidedly inconsistent. The only consistently leaked detail is that of the more than 400 E-Flat mobile suits that were found there, every single one showed evidence that its pre-Cataclysm designated pilot's body had been positioned next to it, earning the whole platoon the nickname "Memento Mori". Disturbing find aside, the mobile suits were rapidly pressed into the service of the Royal Mobile Suit Corps for anti-Death Force operations and upgrading into Sidereal II-equivalent E-Tempo types with additional beam weaponry and improved avionics.
Type-2 "High Noon"
Low End Limited Production, Modern Generation, General Purpose Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: E
The Battle of Belém was a watershed moment for the development of mobile suit doctrine within the Divine Monarchy of CanMexico, wherein a handful of Seraphim Type-1 and Type-2 Mobile Suits, along with the city's fixed defenses, were able to foil an all-out airmobile assault by CanMexico's B-, E-Flat, and E-Types and ultimately prevent the invasion of the city and presumed capitulation of the Amazonian government. Many factions within the CanMexican armed forces developed, each with their own answer to the problem posed by superior Spacian weapons, and one of those factions seized on purchasing or building equivalent mobile weapons to the Seraphim, a plan that finally came to fruition almost a year and a half later. Naturally, such a plan in isolation was doomed to failure by the relentless march of innovation, and many more promising avenues of achieving military parity with Space have unfolded in the meantime, but the CanMexican-produced Type-2 does provide the Royal Mobile Suit Corps with a new baseline limited production unit that they can deploy in great numbers with the ability to reliably replace losses, soon to be tested in anti-Death Force operations.
Operation BANISH Staging Area, Asia Pacific Legacy Council Regional Headquarters Australia
Going from Siberian spring to Australian autumn was somewhat disconcerting to Liliana - almost as much as rubbing elbows with multiple armed forces that should reasonably be trying to kill her and each other. It was amazing how a single commonality could bring people together. Whether Death Force, or in the case of the APLC prior to the state of emergency, just not trusting Spacians with Fallow Zones.
She put the stimulating intellectual game of trying to follow out the background diplomatic war between the Asiatic democracies and the Luna Republic out of her mind though as she climbed out of the crowded, busy, and rapidly-expanding joint military base to her destination in the rolling coastal hills outside of it. She could certainly appreciate the natural beauty of the edge of a Fallow Zone - various gods knew she'd spent enough time in one in the last year and a half - but she was a bit less fond of trudging over all of these elevation changes. Still, the person she was coming to see probably appreciated the exercise.
Almost certainly, in fact, since when Liliana eventually found Karen, she was not sitting in a lotus pose meditating, as she had been in Liliana's imagination when she set out to meet her ace pilot at dawn. Instead, she was sweating and practically dancing around the small, flat overlook in the hills she had chosen, short red hair bobbing like a candle flame, clothed only in pants, sports bra, and headband, and weaving a blurring pattern in the air with a pair of sticks. Bastons, Liliana thought. The ersatz princess paused for probably more time than she should have to watch the once-Knight going through the fluid motions of her martial art. It was incredible, in a way, how the line between a beautiful dance and deadly violence was defined mostly by how close another person was to her.
"If you're just going to stare, leave," Karen said, not looking at Liliana but slowing down into what appeared to be cooldown motions instead.
"I've just never really seen a martial artist at work in person before," Liliana admitted. "What style is that?"
"Basically everything. Not sure if you knew this, but the western Pacific's had dozens of living traditions of martial arts for millennia. I picked up just enough from my parents to know how to win a street fight. Which I guess makes it mostly escrima, now that I say it."
"That's not street fighting, Karen."
"Well, I did do some training as a Knight of the Round too, you know. Very famous dojos in Guiana, of all places."
The pilot stopped her motions, swiped up a bottle of water, and drank heavily from it as she walked toward her superior. "I'm guessing since you're here, she's been delivered?"
"Yes. The team swept her for any trackers or surprises Richter slipped in there last night, so you'll be ready to start training with her this afternoon."
Karen scoffed. "I've been training with the Mantis this whole time. It's a CQC machine, right?"
She thrust the baston in her left hand forward, stopping it about five centimeters short of Liliana's throat. The taller woman didn't flinch, though. "Stick, blade, spear, mobile suit. It's all an extension of the body."
"Street fighting, huh?"
"Street fighting and a clear and serene heart, Lils."
Mantis
High End Ace Custom, Modern Generation, Flight-type CQC/Assault Mobile Suit
All the World's Mobile Weapons Tactical Rating: A
A heavily-customized Locust-Type apparently discovered in the same excavation as the A-Minor Sedna and its E-Narwhal accompaniment, the Mantis is by any metric the strongest mobile suit in the possession of the Divine Monarchy of CanMexico other than its A-Minors, and is estimated to possibly be able to beat either of those if it engaged them in the right conditions. Heavily specialized for all-out, point-blank offense, the Mantis's speed and CQC abilities are unmatched, both thanks to its maneuverability and outsized powerplant and the heavily classified and esoteric beam weapon mounted on its right arm. While the suit's trump card has been kept heavily under wraps by the Royal Army Intelligence Division, unsubstantiated reports have declared it a "certain kill" weapon against any mobile suit that the pilot can deploy it against. Said pilot appears to be former Jaburan Knight of the Round Karen de la Luna, noted as a skilled martial artist as well as a pilot, and part of the fragment of the Jaburan armed forces who defected outright to CanMexico after the end of the Amazonian Conflict. The synergy of a skilled warrior and CQC-focused mobile suit will soon be tested in the international Death Force containment operation in Australia.

Hanin turned to look as her friend came into view. There wasn't much of anywhere to hide, the old warehouse had been cleaned out a long time ago. Not even empty boxes remained, and the only place to sit was a concrete ledge that was barely wide enough for the purpose. Dust was the primary occupant of the warehouse now. The light from the sun filtered in through and illuminated all of the dust particles that had been disturbed by the intruders in this quiet and sleepy place.
The second of those intruders was Leila whose appearance was enough to bring a smile to Hanin's face. "Yeah," she answered. "Especially with the new war, and with everything changing so fast, I wanted to reconnect to my roots a little.
Leila took her time walking over, the vibrant colours of her jump suit a harsh contrast with the worn and weathered building. The beams of light coming down from the ceiling seemed to weave around her, framing her in darkness and light at the same time. "It's been ages, hasn't it? Back when we were kingdom cadets we'd spend every free moment here just to get away from the noise."
"Yeah, I remember," Hanin said wistfully. Her own jacket and sarouel nowhere near as fanciful as Leila's clothes, just old hand-me-downs passed through the family. "Barely got our certification before everything exploded."
Finally reaching her spot, Leila sat on the ground. Somehow she made the dirt of an empty warehouse look like the finest of thrones. Hanin would never know how she did it. "Do you regret it, joining up and switching sides?"
Thinking about everything they'd been through so far, and everything that was yet to come, Hanin shook her head. "Not on your life. Who else would teach all these kids how to be the terrors of the deep?"
KP+
Mid Grade Mass Production Mobile Suit, Modern Generation, Aquatic Combat Specialist
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Mass Production Tactical Rating: B
When the Algerian Socialist Republic emerged from the rubble of their brief but violent revolution, the K-Type was their only functioning mobile suit. While they had possession of the largest number of aquatic mobile suits on earth, it left them vulnerable to any attacks on land. As a result, the K-Type enjoyed something of a mixed reputation, being both the country's greatest defender but also a harsh reminder of how far behind they were.
After taking heavy losses in the Gulf of Mexico and with the proliferation of aquatic mobile suits to other countries, it was determined that the K-Type was in need of a refit. The KP, a Cold League upgrade to the K-Type, was the perfect base on which to build on. Rapid increases in modernisation left the Algerian, now Nephilim, Republic with plenty of resources and technologies to attach.
Most KP+ that exist today are refitted original K-Types from before the Amazon war, but they are quickly being surpassed in number by new models. Those refitted models have seen much action, often hundreds of missions over their long service, and with highly trained and motivated pilots they look fit to see much, much more.
TMWR Testing Ground, outside of Jabbes
The heavy clawed foot of the machine dug into the ground. Even with the claws closed, there was enough weight and force to cause and dent and dig into the compacted earth of the test site.
The foot was attached to a boxy metal leg, heavily armoured, that continued up to attach to a harness. Sitting within that harness was a spherical machine that was the focus of today's demonstration. Covered with heavy armour plating and sporting a large cannon at the top, it was an unorthodox and somewhat comical design.
"How's its performance?" asked Harika Litim, overall commander of the Nephilim Mobile Suit Corps.
The Engineer standing beside her lit up with excitement, clearly having been waiting to answer the question. "Very satisfactory! The gun is rated to pierce the armour of most conventional threats out to a range of two kilometers and the autocannons excel in their role thanks to their excellent high explosive ammunition provided by our friends at the Kef Armoury. The terrestrial harness has proven to be reliable in all tested conditions, including inclines of up to thirty six degrees, the aquatic harness can keep pace with a KP+ at standard cruise speeds, and the default form has shown to be exceptionally manoeuvrable in space. The crew accommo-"
Harika raised a hand to silence the engineer and massaged her temple with the other. She had to be patient, the engineer was clearly just a kid who was excited about their project. "That's all very good. What's the cost?"
"Cheaper than any mobile weapon we are aware of, though we don't have full intel on Godot's guntracks yet," the Engineer said. Thankfully she didn't seem to be too put off by being interrupted. "The factories have also finished in record time, so they are ready to begin production right away."
"Great, this should go a long way to giving us greater presence." Harika took a deep breath, willing herself to have the courage to confront the question she dreaded asking. "So why is the viewport so big?"
There was a long pause, an awkward silence that stretched between them. "Well, the crew needs to see, right?"
"Yes..." Harika allowed. "But it's a bit of a target isn't it?"
"What do you mean?"
The mobile weapon turned to face them, the circular viewport staring right at them like a bullseye.
"Oh," said the Engineer.
"Yeah."
"Well thankfully it's not glass," the Engineer explained. "It's actually slightly stronger than the rest of the armour. That being said, I'm not- I don't know how we missed that."
Harika gave the Engineer a pat on the shoulder to reassure her. "Well, if it's safe that's what matters right? Worst case scenario we can modify the design."
"Right!" the Engineer said, almost worryingly buoyed by the reassurance. "Let them try to exploit our oversight, and they will find it's not so easy! Soon, the whole world will be in awe of the MTLFSU."
"Nobody is going to call it that," said Harika.
Chickpea
Mass Production Mobile Armour, Cutting Edge Generation, Fire Support
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Mobile Armour Tactical Rating: N/A
The first mobile weapon designed entirely, from the ground up, by the Nephilim, the Chickpea is not a marvel of technological sophistication. Closer in power to the 0-Type walkers and Guntanks found by other powers than to a true mobile suit, the Chickpea nevertheless fills a vital role in the Nephilim armed forces. Massed mobile suits are an existential threat, but even singular mobile suits are able to cause catastrophic damage, and infantry formations are poorly equipped to handle them. The Chickpea's existence is to stiffen the line and provide more coverage of proper anti mobile suit firepower.
It is capable of operating underwater as well, with its claws making it a significant threat against submarines and smaller ships, as well as being able to annoy aquatic mobile suits somewhat. While at the surface of the water it can also provide fire support with its main cannon. In space it takes the role of an infantry replacement, adding mass to forces that would otherwise lack them.
3rd Mobile Suit Army Headquarters, near the former Moroccan border
If you didn't know where to look you wouldn't notice it at all. Even if you did, it was hard to tell after the centuries of wear had slowly worn away at any detail on the mobile suit's surface. Still, just barely visible, you could find the ghost of a small painted icon on the back of the Type-1N's leg.
It said-
"You doing an inspection miss?" came a voice from the ground.
The Nephilim turned hurriedly and jumped down. She needn't have bothered, given that she had just been interrupted by a member of the janitorial staff.
"Didn't think there was one until tomorrow," the Janitor continued.
"No, I'm not doing an inspection," the Nephilim said. "Just spending time with some old companions."
Recognition dawned on the Janitor's face. "Ah, right, there are Nephilim suits from the old times aren't they?" She motioned towards the legions of mobile suits all standing in orderly rows. "What's your name?"
"Seulbi," the Nephilim replied. "And yeah, they are. I thought I recognised some of them and wanted to come check."
The Nephilim, the original ones, had been given almost complete freedom to move around within the new Nephilim Republic. They had been shown the rediscovered suits, given access to all the data, even been given custody of all the personal effects found within them. It had been touching, but also very overwhelming. Like being given a guided tour of your family's graveyard.
"Nice to meet you Seulbi," the Janitor said. "I won't pester you any more then, just make sure to lock up if you leave after I do."
Seulbi smiled and nodded her head, prompting the Janitor to walk away. She stopped after only a couple steps and turned around for one last question. "You said you thought to recognised some of them. Did you find any old friends?"
"Yeah, yeah I did," replied Seulbi.
Later, when the Janitor was gone, Seulbi once again mounted the leg of the mobile suit and looked down at the small painted patch that was so faded the words could barely be made out. She could remember the old days so easily. The raw intensity, the terror, the resignation that it was all over. The Nephilim had nearly been wiped out, they'd thrown everything they had to at the architects of calamity, and by all appearances they had lost.
But they hadn't.
Seulbi remembered the words that had been said to her the day before she'd entered cryostasis. "There's always another battle to fight."
Idly, Seulbi's finger traced the faded text that she had painted there herself. "Looks like I'm the only one left to fight it, Seju."
Type-1N
High End Mass Production, Modern Generation, Angel Upgraded
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Mass Production Tactical Rating: B
The discovery of more than 100 of the Type-1 mobile suits fielded by the original Nephilim organisation was seen by many as a sign of favour. Many of their pilots were found held in cryostasis within the facility in which they were found, but many more had been lost to time. While the Nephilim have been given every opportunity to retire or change professions, many flock to their old mobile suits with renewed determination and with something to prove.
Type-2N
Low End Limited Production, Modern Generation, Angel Upgraded
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Limited Production Tactical Rating: D
Having been mostly found damaged or abandoned during the assault on the ATLAS Superfortress, the Nephilim Type-2s were not so closely tied to the rediscovered Nephilim as the Type-1Ns. Instead, they are seen by many as the most prestigious of the limited production suits in the Nephilim arsenal, despite their poorer performance compared to the upgraded BBs. The reason is simple: it connects them to the heart of the Nephilim, a bridge formed across a millenia.
Office of the Custodian of War, Biskra
The work day was ending, with the sun starting to set and take on a warmer glow. The light cut through the office, casting the other half in shadow. Like most of the other offices in the building this one was aggressively plain, with only a few small ornaments to show the personality of its main occupant.
"I don't like it," said the occupant in question as she finished reading over some reports.
Her guest, sitting just across the desk, rolled her eyes. "You don't like anything, Tahira."
That earned a grunt of indignation from Tahira Wadoud, War Custodian for the Nephilim Republic. "First of all, rude. Second of all, I like plenty of things. Third of all, I mean it, I don't like this at all Natara."
"Alright then," said Natara Fergani. "What has you so upset?"
Mollified, Tahira leaned back in her chair. "The proliferation of these new Seraphim mobile suits. Everyone is clamouring for me to order more of them, but I don't like it."
Not expecting that to be the root of this round of complaining, Natara lifted an eyebrow. "Is there some problem with the suits I wasn't aware of? Last I heard they seemed ideal."
"That's just it," Tahira said. "They are." The Series-1 had been an instant and enduring success among the Nephilim pilots, prompting a neverending call for more and more as the size of the army expanded. The suit's effects internationally hadn't gone unnoticed either, it being treated as a nigh unbeatable superweapon by some of the more dramatic powers. "It's perfect, and so we're fully indulging in it."
"And that's... a bad thing?" Natara asked.
Tahira shot her a withering look that absolutely had not been earned. "Yes," Tahira said. "I don't want us to become overly reliant on Seraphim technology, we should be using our own."
Natara glared back, her next words more curt than usual. "Have the mondists got to you too then? You're going to start raving about seraphs hiding in the walls now?"
"No, no, it's not really about the Seraphim," Tahira said. She must have realised she had upset her friend because she backed down and raised a hand as a conciliatory gesture. "I just don't like that we're relying on someone else to design our military equipment. It doesn't sit right with me."
Mollified, Natar sat back as well and went back to looking at her own documents. "As opposed to what, trusting the lottery of archaeology? Or do you want to replace our Series-1s with Chickpeas."
"You know that's not what I mean," Tahira sighed. "Obviously it will take time, but I would rather we rely on designs instead of relying on the Seraphim." She flipped a page before her aimlessly, not really reading what was on it. "It would go some way towards making us look more independent, too."
"I don't think anyone who seriously questions our independence has ever been too bothered with the truth," Natara replied.
"So you think I'm being silly?"
"No," said Natara. "I think you have a point. I'm not a huge fan of letting someone else decide how our army works either. Still, until we can get other options going, I think we should be grateful for what we've got."
"Besides," she continued. "I'm pretty sure you'd have to pry the Type-Delta out of Harika's cold, dead hands."
Series-1 Desert Type
High End Mass Production Mobile Suit, Cutting Edge Generation, Generalist
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Mass Production Tactical Rating: A+
An earthian modification of the Series-1, the Desert Type cuts all space flight capability in exchange for decreased cost of production and a slight increase in performance. Because of its country of origin, the design features special accommodations for warfare in mountainous terrain and to handle hot climates. Beloved by pilots, the Desert Type is generally regarded as the most coveted assignments a pilot can receive.
Its upcoming variant, the Continental Type, is widely anticipated by many.
Type-Delta
High End Ace Mobile Suit, Cutting Edge Generation, A-Minor Equivalent
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Ace Tactical Rating: S-
With only one produced, the Type-Delta has already been turning heads amongst the Nephilim military. The strongest Seraphim design yet unveiled, the Type-Delta is a match for even the fearsome might of the A-Types, or perhaps even their superior in the right hands. While Hala Rustumid is no match for the inestimable Domina Gunn it is hoped that she will be able to make a strong impression on the enemies of the Nephilim.
Outside the ATLAS Superfortress
There were so many mobile suits. Hundreds of them, quite literally. So many that the great field in front of the Ayis Amaziɣ's viewport looked filled to the brim with them. They were the remnants of ATLAS' great fortress in the Sahara, their last redoubt that had been cracked open and destroyed by the Nephilim.
A thousand years later the Nephilim had returned to claim their loot.
Yasmine Ayache leaned on the command console of her personal command station, the battleship Hresvelg. Below her, the RBB-Armour types practiced shielding themselves from fire while the Hi-BB Hi-Mobility types practiced evasion techniques against the various training instructors present. Hundreds of rookie pilots, some just barely out of their training programs, had been scraped together to crew the masses of mobile suits.
"It's not your first time commanding a bunch of kids, is it?" said Yasmine's friend, Colonel Mimi.
Yasmine sighed, thinking back on how true it was. She'd led young revolutionaries that she would never dare conscript against royalist forces again and again. It had been a privilege to see some of them grow up into fine soldiers. It had been hard to see too many that wouldn't get to grow up at all. "It never gets easier."
"No," said Mimi, moving to her side. "It doesn't. I wouldn't want it to."
"It would be better if we weren't giving them..." Yasmine trailed off, motioning at the suits below.
Mimi hardly needed the gesture to know what she was thinking. "The cast off remnants of a fascist organisation?"
"Yeah."
"Just think of it as re-appropriation," said Mimi. "Take from the evil and give to the good."
RBB-Armour Type
Mid-Grade Limited Production Mobile Suit, Modern Generation, Armour Type
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Limited Production Tactical Rating: D
The superior of the two BB upgrades that were found in the ATLAS superfortress, the RBB was chosen to be upgraded with an emphasis on survivability. The already present shield was improved and strengthened, and extra armour was applied wherever practical. The end result leaves the mobile suit as a slight disadvantage in close combat compared to the base model, but much more capable in a firefight. Conceived as a fortress suit, the RBB-Armour attracts pilots who never want to give up even an inch of ground.
Further development on the design is expected in the coming years.
Hi-BB Hi-Mobility Type
Mid-Grade Limited Production Mobile Suit, Ancient Generation, Mobility Type
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Limited Production Tactical Rating: D-
The weaker of the two BB upgrades that were found in the ATLAS superfortress, the Hi-BB's upgrades placed an emphasis on speed. This was chosen because the suit's poorer performance combined with the BB line's overall lower capability at range meant that the faster the suit could close, the more likely it was to make an impact. Generally poorly regarded by its pilots, the Hi-Mobility does have its supporters, and has found an important role as an export model for the Nephilim Republic which had never before had the Mobile Suits to give away.
Ayis Amaziɣ Land Battleship
The most eye catching find from the Superfortress were the immense land battleships. With only 8 found, they were considered a valuable asset to be used sparingly. Currently mostly serving as theatre command posts and headquarters, the Ayis Amaziɣ are not to be trifled with in combat. Large batteries of battleship calibre guns are capable of bringing the destructive power of a fleet into a land environment. The defensive armament is less impressive, but the armour is thick and sturdy enough to withstand most weapons it is expected to face. Often given to field marshals or high ranking generals, the land battleships form the head of any Nephilim force.
Fallow Zone Expedition Home Base, Crimea
The beam sabres cut into each other, both suits trying briefly to overpower the other before they broke away. Immediately the two began to circle each other again, looking for opportunities to attack. It didn't take long before they raced back in to clash again, a flurry of blows that would have overpowered a lesser construct.
Training duels were happening all around the field. It was an old sports stadium, its domes cracked and broken to let in enough light, but private enough for testing without worry of interference. The few completed Demi-Lancers of the Nephilim were undergoing stress testing here.
Much to the delight of its designers, both Anlscari and Nephilim, they had yet to find the limits of what the suit could do.
"What do you think, miss Lamine?" asked Rahimateh, one of the leading engineers who had worked on the project to the woman beside her. "Impressive, right?
Roused from whatever she was thinking about, Meriame ult Lamine looked up. "Oh, um, yes. Very well done. They look like excellent machines."
"You don't seem very impressed." Rahimateh was, unfortunately, too perceptive to be waved off so easily. "Perhaps you would like to try one for yourself? Or..."
She grinned.
"Perhaps you could use your new suit to push them to their limit? A pilot of your calibre would certainly give us some excellent data."
Meriame looked for a way out, but suddenly everyone was very eager to see her perform. She sighed, missing when she was back in Algeria and Miss Taha could keep people like this away from her. "Alright."
A few minutes later she strode into the arena with her new suit. The O-Type was a terrifying beast of a mobile suit. Fast, durable, and with a dizzying array of weaponry, Meriame had taken to it near instantly. There was something to it, like an old voice raged at someone like her being in the suit, but she found that the suit itself responded to her almost supernaturally easily. She liked it, she really did.
Across from her were three of the new Demi-Lancers. With their clean lines and slim design, they were almost the exact opposite of the O. Their pilots were veterans, confident and experienced. Some of the best pilots to have ever come out of North Africa.
They really were very good, considering it took the Riptide two full minutes to put them all down.
Knightress Demi-Lancer
High End Mass Production Mobile Suit, Cutting Edge Generation, Shock Assault
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Mass Production Tactical Rating: S-
Designed in cooperation with Anlscar, the Demi-Lancer is set to be the new pride of the Nephilim arsenal. Not only does its performance exceed all expectation many times over, but it is a design conceived of domestically, using suits found by the Nephilim. The forerunner of the Nephilim's love for fast and aggressive mobile suits built for melee, the Demi-Lancer is a terrifying opponent to face. With a massive challenge facing them, they will need all of the valour in their knightly hearts to emerge victorious in the battles ahead.
O-Type
Mid Grade Ace Mobile Suit, Ancient Generation
Man Machine's Mobile Weapons Ace Tactical Rating: C+
Despite its ancient design, many refits, and poor performance relative to other aces, the O-Type has caught the interest of many Nephilim planners. Its many excellent qualities could, if carefully nurtured, be made into a truly fearsome design. It will take time to do so, however, and until then it has been entrusted to the capable hands of Meriame ult Lamine, the Riptide. Her unique style of overwhelming offense pairs well with the deceptive speed and arsenal of weapons available to the O-Type, and it is surely a significant jump from the likes of the Type-2.
MASS PRODUCTION, MODERN GENERATION, MULTIROLE MOBILE SUIT
The MS-1 is a mass production mobile suit derived from the standard Spacian Type-1. Its main difference from other Type-1 derivatives are its Jenuisian-made avionic replacements and the integration of the Jenusian Enhanced Neural Interface. An upgraded variant, the MS-1 Type-1 ENI-B (otherwise known as the MS-1B), was proposed in Q1 of 1001 AC, but was cancelled by First Citizen Johanna Pike's genetic faction Cradle's Graces in favor of continuing their "hermit kingdom" policy. As such, the MS-1 is generally outclassed by its peer competitors.
MS-2 TYPE-2 ENI
LOW END LIMITED PRODUCTION, MODERN GENERATION, MULTIROLE MOBILE SUIT
The MS-2, like the MS-1, is a mobile suit derived from a previous Spacian design, in this case the Type-2 limited production suit. Originally designed to exceed its Earthian Type-E counterpart, budgetary cuts to DICTWAR by the 1001 Q4 Convergence led to the MS-2's development cycle being cut short, which forced the Sequence to utilize avionics originally designed for the MS-1 in the MS-2. The resulting product was a weapon broadly considered obsolete by its Spacian and, embarassingly, several of its Earthian peers.
MS-3 TYPE-N
HIGH END LIMITED PRODUCTION, NEXT GENERATION, TACTICAL SUPERIORITY MOBILE SUIT
The MS-3 Type-N is perhaps the only Jenusian mobile suit that can be considered "peer-competitive" to its counterparts. Developed in response to the sudden failure of the Diana Counter Covenant, the MS-3 Type-N was built to be a supermanuverable tactical superiority mobile suit, a feat made only possible by the development of the incredibly powerful (and highly dangerous) Pulse Det Engine technology. However, its planned two-quarter long development cycle was stymied by a Convergence inquiry spear-headed by Cradle's Graces; development only resumed in Q4 of 1001 when Johanna was deposed from power by future First Citizen Rhiannon Fraser and Sublime Discontinuity, who quickly reactivated the Type-N project. Unfortunately for the Jenus Sequence, the stalled development of the MS-3 would result in other, more capable mobile suits surging ahead of it in speed and capability by the time it was ready for deployment in Q1 of 1002. There are presently only 37 MS-3 Type-Ns in service, in contrast to the bewildering amount of superior Type-S varients fielded by the Seraphim.
So this is it? That's all?
Yes. Johanna left us barely anything to work with. Rosa- sorry, DICTDEV says we're on-par with the other powers technologically, but militarily we're at least two years behind, and falling more and more behind each day. That is, we would be, if it weren't for the new military budget. We can catch up, I'm sure of it. We just need enough time.
...Tell me, General. No, Kilton. You've studied your pre-Cataclysm twenty-first century history, right? On China?
Yes, but why?
We're in the same boat as them. Trying to break out of a bottleneck of stagnation. And unlike us, China managed to do the impossible. They turned their feudal nation into a manufacturing superpower, they could have taken on the world given enough time. And then America neutered them in 2031. Time didn't help them.
Our situations are different. We aren't starting as low as them, and no power would be willing to invade us.
Really? Our region of space is incredibly resource poor, and our manufacturing capacity is non-existent. All the other resources in orbit; the abandoned colony cylinders and asteroids; they've all been nabbed up the likes of ZOLON, Anslcar, the Seraphim. The reason no power is willing to invade us is because they don't see any point in invading us. Thanks to Johanna, the Sequence arrived late to the party, and now we're paying the price for it.
We could always beg. Beg, borrow and steal. Other powers have done it in the past.
Steal? We can't just steal the specifications for the Type-Delta or the Series-1, you idiot! Hacking is nearly impossible these days. And no foreign power would be willing to trade us their latest designs, no matter how much we whore ourselves out to them. We'd have to become a vassal state for them to agree, and then what would become of our great design? Of our future?
There is another way, First Citizen. The Convergence need not hear of it, although they would agree wholeheartedly with us if they did. I only need your approval.
...
...Sir?
...If it cannot break out of its shell, a chick will die without being born. We are the chick. The world is our egg.
Your excellency?
Tell your subordinates that your proposal has been approved.
