[X] To further her relation with one of her classmates. It was the reason she came here after all.

I want to know more about Pupa. Getting stronger is good, but being strong enough to protect our friends is almost pointless if we don't get to know them.

[X] To find more about her heritage
- [X] Through meditation. If she could get more out of the Echoes of her mentor…

HoboLirra is the best, somehow the rags manage to complement the greenery on her horns.

I also love the barely noticeable blush she is sporting.

"comprehension". And what's the difference between this and Illusion Magic? Does Mind Magic actually involve making you smarter, maybe things involving telepathy, or dreams and memory stuff?

Is Forbidden Magic actually forbidden by society, or is it just a descriptor for the subject matter, and it's used to banish demons and such in the right hands?

Highly tempred to pick that up just on general principles
I can understand, but I'd rather learn about Forbidden Magic in general to understand why it's Forbidden and how strongly it's policed against first, before learning to use it. Mostly because sometime just knowing how to use a kind of magic can taint you. That would probably be covered either in a magic class or in just improving Magical Theory with echoes.... Unless it's so Forbidden that you have to have the Forbidden Magic skill to know anything about it.

@Renu Does Lirra know anything about why Forbidden Magic is forbidden from her basic Magical Theory skill?

No, she only knows the general terms I used for each magic.

Well, besides maybe learning some magic, I'm thinking that if we get two more Violent Echoes, we can pick up Battle Tactics. In other categories, I'd love to improve Stealth and either Perception or Will. We could also grab basic Magic Healing Theory and Scientific Healing Theory right now or just save to improve Medicine.

It looks like Basic Forge did give us basic maintenance skills for our weapons and armor, which is all I want out of that skill so we can leave it alone going forward.

Hm... Troubling. If it turns out "It's forbidden because it eats away at your brain" it'd be pretty annoying to pick up. Or if the direct effects of using it were manageable but it left a magical taint other wizards could pick up on and led to getting in legal trouble or just expelled from school.

According to our character sheet, we have 13 Obsessed Echoes. Does anyone have any idea about what each magic type might do?
I'm thinking:
Elemental Magic: probably your standard combat spells? Lots of damage, some defense, battlefield control or utility if you're lucky.
Illusion Magic: Creating images for multiple people to see? Could be specific images, or could anything we can think up (within certain limitations)? If we can decide what a given spell will do, it could be very powerful for write-ins during combat. If we don't want to do a lot of write-ins though, we may want to skip this, especially because we can't lie.
Alteration Magic: like transfiguration in Harry Potter? Or, it might be something we could use to make our weapons/shield better, by making them stronger, sharper, or lighter. Could even be something we can use to enhance our own body, making us faster, stronger, etc. Potentially quite useful.
Mind Magic: Might be something that we can use to boost our intelligence, help bolster memories of class so we learn faster, or even allow us to get more out of our Echoes. Or it could be something used to mislead individuals, wipe memories, mind control people, and who knows what other horrifying things. Most likely very powerful.
Creation Magic: Making things? Could be used to summon objects, or possibly even creatures? Probably good for utility, could be useful for making minions, weapons, food/water, or even medicines, depending on how it works. Unlimited Blade Spear Works!
Forbidden Magic: Summon Demons? Commit horrible rituals that are useful but require human sacrifice? Peer into the abyss, but with the chance that it might stare right back? Resurrect people? Honestly, I'm not sure what could possibly be more horrifying than what Mind Magic is likely to be able to do. Maybe it has a little bit of every other magic type, but taken to the point where it becomes evil?

I think the first thing we need to do before choosing Forbidden Magic is to talk to Chloe. There may be a very good reason it's called Forbidden. Plus that would give us a better idea of what the other magic types can do. Personally, I think that Alteration Magic and Mind Magic are the most likely types to have good synergy with us. We might be able to boost our weapons/body with Alteration, and Mind Magic might unlock memories from our mentor or even give us more Echoes (plus maybe there's a spell that helps people not be quite as traumatized? It is magic after all). After that, definitely talk to Chloe about what exactly Forbidden Magic is. There might be a reason it's called that, and we don't want to get locked into having something that people will ostracize us even more for.

Talking to Chloe before committing to learning a type of magic (or in game terms, probably before committing to trying to recall a type of magic from faded memories bouncing around Lirra's head and then practicing what she remembers) is a good idea. We could say that Lirra was thinking of learning a limited amount of magic to supplement her physical skills or just phrase it as general interest.
