So, question: what sorta magic is involved in 'Know of Death.'

Trying to choose whether to go Sword or Staff.

It's more an instinctive knowledge than magic. You know where the dead are, and you have a feeling when someone will die.

For a more special skill with it, I was waiting to see which gate you chose to give you something related. Sword will probably be something like powering up from the death around you, while Staff would be knowledge of the cause of death and getting some last words as you take care of the corpse.

These are general, non definitive, ideas. I'll offer a few different choices once the gate is chosen.

Though you do have magic, one that you do no matter the gate (for taking care of the dead), and one related to your race, that I'll also put up to choice after the gate.

(also, did you find this thread because the character is a changeling?)

...maybe?

My instinctive power is knowing where Changelings are.

All the more reason to vote Cavalry!

We'll drag corpses around with our horse and make more corpses on the charge for even moar power! Kill! Maim! Slaughter! The 3 Words of Chivalry!
Lirra *edges away slowly* scary scary scary scary

Though, more seriously, for MAXIMUM CHIVALRY, you'll have to work quite a bit. Notably around the fae's allergy to iron. Or find a super special magical snowflake armor.

Then again, it's Light Novel-y, so of course you'll do, eventually. Just not right away.

[X] [gate] She waited to pass the Gate of the Sword. She felt particularly tiny and frail among the burly fighters there, but she knew it was her place. She would find hardy, genuine companions there, and fight bravely at their side. Honor is all. Chivalry is all.
[X] [horns] the lichen-covered ram-like horns that started from behind her ears.

Can we head-butt people?

I'm certainly not immune to the power of MAXIMUM CHIVALRY, and powering up from death alone is almost tempting enough to switch. Assuming that it includes monster deaths, anyway, and not solely the deaths of the humans/other races which are our allies and wards. :V It's a light novel setting, though, so the latter seems too dark to be likely. Anyway, Staff still has better thematic power, and I really don't see why a healer can't be chivalrous.

... Actually, where would paladin fit? There are gods...

Paladins are great.

[jk] You go through the Gate of the Sword, and then turn around and go through the Gate of the Staff. Why pick one?

MULTI TRACK DRIFTING!?

(more seriously, Paladins are in the same place as ranger, ie: a real pain for me it depends. If you're a priest who swords things on the side, Staff, if you're a knight with some miracles on the side, Sword)

Well, that makes the choice a bit more difficult, but I think I'll stick with Staff for now.

Inserted tally

Ok, so Sword and Antlers. (it's not a tie for the horns, one vote was not counted by task strangely)

[X] [horns] the lichen-covered ram-like horns that started from behind her ears.
[X] [horns] part of the leaved antlers that crowned her head.
[X] [gate] She waited to pass the Gate of the Staff. She felt dirty compared to those who knew of the healing arts, as she only knew of death, but she knew it was her place. She would find kind and understanding companions here, and bring some hope back to those who suffer. Life is all. Empathy is all.
[X] [horns] the very start of the straight horns that emerged from her temples and went to the back of her head.

[X] [gate] She waited to pass the Gate of the Cloak. She felt inadequate, knowing that the fae blood that was excited at the coming mischief would also stop her from saying even the slightest lie, but she knew it was her place. She would find cunning, charismatic companions there, and trick the foolish at their side. Guile is all. Shadow is all.
[X] [gate] She stood frozen in place, as she knew she was no hero, only the one who buried them. Life is fleeting. Death comes to all.

[X] [gate] She waited to pass the Gate of the Star. She felt a bit under-learned among the all the book carrying students there, but she knew it was her place. She would find calm, thoughtful companions there, and unveil the mystery of the arcane at their side. Knowledge is all. Power is all.

Well well well, the votes are very close.

Given it's character creation, I'd prefer a clear winner, so I'll actually leave the votes open a bit more, but with only the choice between the two runner ups (antlers/ram and sword/staff), so those who voted for something else can change their votes.

I'd like the winner to have at least three more votes than the other.

If we have that in around 3-4 hours, I'll lock it FOR REALZ this time. If not, I guess I'll let it go until tomorrow, where I'll lock it no matter what.

And if there's a tie then, the current winner raite naoh will count as winners.

Adding the Ram Horns to my vote for extra friendly head boops.

Ram has the needed 3 votes advantage, but the gates are tied, so it's still going on.

I'll lock the votes tomorrow. If no other votes are added, sword will win, as it was winning during the previous tally.
