Go Beyond! (My Hero Academia)

"Calling her by her first name now are we?" he smirked. "Sounds like someone's impressed by Suzushina."
Emiko could clearly hear Matsuda talking to his partner from her place in the top of the 1st-2nd floor's stairs. Really, it seems like both her and Suzushina were lucky in the ambushing department.

She clenched her fist and took a deep breath. Fighting was not something she was accustomed to, and hurting others (especially being the assaulter) wasn't something she was fond of. Still, she had to prove both to herself and the others that she has what it takes, and real villains wouldn't give her the same courtesy.

The redhead sneaked down until she reached the middle of the flight of stairs. Once she passed that point it would be possible for Matsuda to see her, so she abandoned stealth and rushed down the stairs, jumping the last couple of stairs before putting both her hands forward and unleashing a red bolt of energy towards the other student.

The bolt itself was of the size of a human's head and carried the force of being shoulder-tackled by a grown man. Not pleasant, but not dangerous, either.

Takeshi turned as he heard the sound of footsteps racing towards him - But he was far too late to avoid the glowing bolt that struck him square in the chest, sending him tumbling backwards. The impact...hurt, but not as much as he had been expecting. Certainly, nothing he hadn't felt before during Aikido training.

Is she...holding back to try and avoid hurting people? He wondered. Nice sentiments, but nobody smiles when the hero isn't giving it everything they've got!

Takeshi rolled into a run, sprinting down the corridor and around the next corner. If she wanted to fight him, she'd have to do it on his terms, or she'd have to retreat, knowing that he could call Shirai in as backup.

He fully intended on trying to take her down himself, but If he needed to, turning this into a 2v1 was a legitimate strategy.

"Can't talk. Busy now, Give me a bit of time" He whispered into his communicator.

"Ah, good." Hadrian said, relaxing a bit. "I feel bad about yelling that you'd rot their eyeballs out, you know? My mom can get villains to surrender just by showing up at the scene of the crime, so I know that fear can be a proper deterrent but I just... I'd rather be like All Might, you know? One of the inspiring heroes, not on of the scary ones like Endeavor. But if it works... I mean, I don't know."
"I see." is the dark-clad figure whose Quirk and its ramifications brought up the topic's noncommittal response.

She then falls silent until it is time to begin.

Hadrian almost flinched at the terse reply. Idiot, he berated himself, her quirk makes people rot. Of course she has reputation concerns. And you go and trample all over her feelings like the big, clumsy moron you are. Why can't you just think before you open your mouth for once?

Hadrian knew there was really nothing he could say at the moment to fix his mistake but he had to try anyway. After all, wasn't that being a hero was all about? But he had no idea what he could say without saying something worse.

Eventually he settled on a simple "Sorry." It probably sounded pathetic but it was the best he could come up with. With nothing else to say, Hadrian crossed his arms and settled in to wait out the five minutes, his mind chasing his mistakes in circles and wishing he could restart the entire test.

So quickly as well... Suzushina must be strong or have had a really good setup for her to have done that.

"Calling her by her first name now are we?" he smirked. "Sounds like someone's impressed by Suzushina."

"Of course." I reply without hesitation. "She's really incredible and just at a glance her quirk's crazy strong. I don't think I'll be able to beat her in a fair fight."

Wait. Wait a second. Oh. Oooh. Oh. Right. I take a moment to scan my surroundings one more time. Honestly, this is why other people're hell. This microcosm of inanity right here.

Being Haru is suffering.

"No contact with the enemy yet" Responded Takeshi, as he reached to the floor and produced a small explosion, enough to make a small whump and give him another baseball sized chunk of rock, leaving little other damage. "But I'm sure that's going to change at some point. If she's that strong, it might not be worth focusing on fortifying, just in case we need to make a last minute break for the bomb."

"Roger that. Keep me updated." I pause. "Also it's not like that. I just have a healthy respect for her abilities. And I was still rattled by that ambush she pulled, my tongue slipped." I grump stoically. "That's all there is to it-"

Of course he has to go and interrupt me one last time.

"Can't talk. Busy now, Give me a bit of time" He whispered into his communicator.

Right. Emiko must've found him then. I don't say anything. I've probably distracted him enough as it is. I squat on that rooftop and start thinking.

This is such an awkward situation. Arisu's quirk is strong, definitely strong. She's like the endgame boss in a videogame. How was she able to track me? Does she have motion sensors in her helmet or was that part of her quirk? She had something going on with regards to her body. She was larger and her arms were longer. Some kind of enhancement quirk? Possibly.

I don't think physical attacks're going to work on her. And we have to face her, or else we'll time out and lose. All she has to do is wait on the floor where the missile's located and she's going to be able to force an engagement. And then there's Emiko.

Can't get into close quarters. If Arisu gets a grip on any of us it's game over.

Range isn't an option with Emiko in the picture, she's going to be able to snipe us from a distance.

Can't keep running away. That's not an option. I'll exhaust myself the more I spam my rifts.

Huge area of effect attacks aren't an option indoors. Lethal attacks aren't an option either. Completely out of the question.

I don't know either of them well enough to say that psychological attacks are going to be effective. I'd probably just end up pissing one of them off and then we'd be in some really deep shit.

Can't go for a battle of attrition. I'm not sure who'd drop first if we tried something like that.

Time's ticking down. Damn it. We have to take one of them out of the picture somehow, but how?

I'll wait for Takeshi to get clear before making a move.

"Poetic. Huh. How 'bout that." This girl has Arata's Quirk slightly wrong - but correcting her is quite possibly the furthest thing from his mind. "Guess that makes me a poet-tree."

He cuts off any resultant groans with a yawn, covering his mouth and nonchalantly switching over to whispering. Just like the spies do it. "So, I figure if we're really so alike, you'll want to get this over with as quickly as I do. Can you give us enough groundswell to make this building airtight? "

...that was a really cool leather jacket Riku was wearing.
Riku nodded her head affirmatively. The plan was not really a plan, but it was the closest thing she had to a plan. Honestly, if it actually went well, she would be surprised. Like, really. Considering the fact that her partner would be a big sitting target, and she was sure that the others were aware of his Quirk, to an extent, they would want to rush her team before they do anything.

But it seemed like the best choice she had, so she had to give it her all to make sure that it went off smoothly. Even if it meant using her Quirk willy-nilly and on camera where everyone else can see. Damned lucky bastards and their flashy Quirks. What did she do in her past life to get such a revolting Quirk.

Actually.... She had a pretty good idea to what she did. If her past records were any indication. But anyways.

Turning from Arata, she walked towards the abandoned building. U.A. certainly did not spare any expense for the sake of future generation. Taking off a cestus from her left hand, she swiftly jammed a finger down her throat and removed that offending finger as soon as possible. Her back hunched, she cover her mouth before letting floodgate loose.

A small waterfall of mud flowed down seamlessly from above and begin to cover the ground.

OOC: Right, so we (@Itaywex, @The3rdCorinthian, @Wizard_Marshall and I) decided to retcon things so Arisu just grabbed onto Haru's longcoat. Also shredded my wrist thingy. @Wizard_Marshall's said I can ignore his last post so like, I'm just gonna roll with things now.

---

Crap, she's got my coatshe'sgotmycoat-

My fingernails. They're metallic, hard and sharp enough to use as rudimentary blades. I stab and slice with my free hands and eventually the material gives way and I finish falling into my portal.

I roll onto the roof with a light thump. My portal closes immediately afterwards, sealing off my escape route.

That was way too close. My heart's pounding. I'm panting lightly. Calm. Need to focus.

I get to my feet, joints popping as I do so. I glance at my wrist where my location calculator lies shattered and broken. I must've busted it in transit. I detach it from my wrist, it's only so much dead weight now.

My coat is weighted differently as well. I glance down. It's shredded, ripped and torn. Can't be helped. I decide to keep it for now. Just in case.

Arisu's seriously amazing. That was way too close. Holy shit. No, focus, stay on target. I'm forgetting something.

Oh right, Takeshi called me at one point. I call him back.

"Sorry about that. Arisu nearly got me. I'm kind of hiding at the moment." I scan my surroundings. I can't see her but with how fast she's moving I don't think that means very much.

"What's it like on your end?"

Missed. I felt contact, but he still eluded my snake-like grasp. Even though I thought I had the advantage, my prey managed to slip through my assault. Ah, Fate seems to be on his side. Unfortunate. But that just means I wasn't thorough enough. Too naive. I need to stack the deck in my favor, until something like the whims of Fate are inconsequential, beaten black and blue and tossed in a corner.

As I pulled my hands back through the holes in the wall, I listened for my prey's presence. I thought I felt something faint on the edge of my senses, but they were drowned out by the steady beats below. Ah yes, rather than chasing after the escaping hare, I should go after the one already in my trap.

After I repaired the damage. I did remember All Might Sensei's warning to the other team. Perhaps this was not adhering to the letter of his warning but the spirit.

@Itaywex

"Shirai escaped me," I spoke through the communicator. I suppose I should back up Izawa-san, given Shirai's Quirk. "I'm headed your way."

With my work done, I slunked away. As I left the room, I made no sound, careful to control my body.

"Tsk," Emiko clicked her tongue, Takeshi simply rolled with the hit and ran away, not even giving her a chance to speak and to offer him to surrender as she intended to.

She ran couple of steps forward but stopped as the faster boy turned around the corner. Simply rushing after him could net her a surprise explosion to the face.

Emi didn't answer Arisu, not wanting to reveal where she is. She could have asked Arisu where Matsuda was, but she wanted to do this by herself.

She had two options. She could either follow the corridor Matsuda went or she could go to the other corridor. Following him would be dangerous, so going around would be what he would think that she would do!

With that logic in mind, Emiko waited half a minute to make Matsuda think she was trying to circle around him and started to sneak towards the corner Matsuda went behind, ready to blast him the moment she would see a hint of him.

Huh...Didn't immediately follow me as expected. Izawa seems the cool-headed and tactical type. Takeshi contemplated, as time ticked on and he didn't hear the sounds of running feet.

Let's see...If she didn't just follow me, she probably decided to go around the side. If she didn't dive into danger straight away, then obviously she'd try and take a longer, more roundabout path...But she's smarter than that, isn't she, so that would be too obvious. If she really wanted to fake me out...She'd act like she was going round the other side, then attack from an area I've dismissed as a threat, which would have to be...!

Putting a palm next to the corner of the wall, Takeshi exhaled through his left hand. He also brought out one of the chunks of rock he had obtained, switched on his igniters, and set the rock aflame in his right.

Go time

Takeshi leapt out of the cover of the corner, the sight of the red headed hero confirming his suspicions. As he did so, he ignited the wall, setting off his explosive gas, and propelling him to the right, making it harder for Izawa to aim at him with one of her attacks.

Then as he neared the right wall Takeshi lobbed the flaming rock.

Takeshi's quirk didn't lend itself naturally to ranged combat as well as Emiko Izawa's quirk did. Its primary functions were to set stuff on fire and to prepare them to explode, but he couldn't make a flamethrower out of the stuff. So he'd had to learn to compensate and had put a lot of hard work after school chucking rocks at various targets, which was bolstered by a natural affinity for quickly judging throwing arcs. If U.A. had a baseball team, then Takeshi's throwing arm would have potentially made him one of its star players.

Or to put it another way: Takeshi Matsuda was really good at throwing shit.

The stone shot through the air towards its intended destination: one of the chairs Takeshi had rigged to explode while setting up, the closest trap to Izawa.

Emiko was only halfway through the corridor when Matsuda jumped to the side, she immediately fired another blast at him, one stronger than she did before, but his speed let him completely avoid it.

Then as he neared the right wall Takeshi lobbed the flaming rock.
She saw the flaming rock flying towards her general direction. She knew that it won't hit her, but for all she knew Takeshi could make the rock explode in mid air, or maybe it would explode on contact?

Emiko didn't knew, nor did she want to find out the hard way, so she rushed forward and to the side in the few moments she had before the rock harmlessly flew beside her and impacted the chair as Matsuda aimed.

The instant that the rock connected to the chair, there was a small 'Click' as the oxygen at the surface layer of the chair ignited, which was immediately replaced by the sound of an explosion that left a sizable crater in the wall.

While managing to get some distance between herself and the epicentre of the explosion, Izawa would still be caught in the edges of the blast and would likely be knocked over by the force of it, but wouldn't have any injuries aside from minor cuts and scrapes.

Takeshi began trying to close the distance between him and Izawa. He was skilled in Close Quarters Combat, and from what he'd seen during Aizawa's testing, her physical abilities weren't in the same ballpark as her quirk based ones. If he could get into a hand to hand fight, he might be able to take her down on his own.

Seconds tick by as I think to myself. We need to retreat and regroup...

Wait.

We.

Takeshi's still in the building.

Arisu and Emiko are still in the building. Emiko's engaged Takeshi. Arisu has some kind of ability to detect our movements. Arisu's probably going to help Emiko.

I'm not in the building.

I've effectively run away and left my partner to the wolves.

Shit. Shit shit shit. Stupid. Stupid. Comm him. Comm him now. I can't pull him out if I don't know where he is. I'm not disparaging his abilities, he's got an amazing quirk, but Emiko and Arisu have also got amazing quirks.

I scan my surroundings again, searching for something. Anything. Long ranged fire support. I could drop debris on their heads. No, I can't, that's too destructive. It goes against the spirit of the scenario.

I refuse to sit here like some cowering child though. No. I have to do something. Anything. I pull open a portal with my fingers and walk through that rift.

Moments later I appear in the middle of the first floor of the building. I can hear explosions.

"Well, fuck." I sigh, before proceeding to run towards the source of those explosions.

Emiko felt the blast hit her back before she could even process hearing the explosion. She didn't catch the brunt of it, but it was enough to knock her to the side and against the wall.

Emiko groaned and put her palm forward, firing another blast at Takeshi. She didn't have the time to charge nor the concentration to put a stronger blast, but if hit it would still be enough to blast him back a bit.

The impact of the blast was certainly strong enough to bleed a lot of the momentum out of Takeshi's burst of speed, and enough to force him to take a step back. However, there wasn't as much oomph behind the impact.

At that moment, Takeshis thoughts were rather incoherent, due to the adrenaline pumping through him. This didn't mean, however, that he was any less thoughtful or insightful. Rather, he was thinking in terms of ideas and questions over words. Translated into words, this though process might sound something like

Beam. Hit me. Not hurting so much (Last one did - why). Quick shot. Needs to charge power? Offensive. Have to be offensive.

Jumping through the air would only open him more if she got another shot off. As he started to run towards her again, this time at a slightly slower pace, he brought out the second rock he picked up, and without igniting it, threw it at Izawas midsection, around the solar plexus, his aim being to knock the wind out of her in order to temporarily render her unable to fire.

(OOC: Sorry for the long delay: Had a family walk. Twas nice.)

Emiko's eyes widened as she saw Matsuda pull out a rock and throw it at her direction. She made a split moment decision to dodge the rock instead of shooting it down, as she didn't want to be caught in the blast.

With her left arm still aimed at Matsuda's general direction she turned her right palm to the right and pumped power into it, firing a red burst of energy that crashed into the wall, leaving a net of cracks on its surface.

The important effect, however, was that the recoil sent Emiko flying to the left, letting her completely dodge the (apparently not explosive at all) rock. The downside was that she still didn't manage to get up, and was in a kneeling position when Matsuda reached her. She tried to aim her left hand at him, but at the last moment she understood that she won't be able to hit and that instance and tried to paddle back and create some distance.

Izawa was moving back. A smart decision. Doubtless, she preferred working at range compared to up close and personal, due to her quirk.

Unfortunately for her, Takeshi had ways of reducing such distances.

In an instant, Takeshi dropped to all four limbs, in a runners startup position, pumped some gas into the ground, and launched himself towards the red-haired heroine at top speed.

Emiko understood her chance the moment she saw it. At least, she hoped he won't be able to dodge with that kind of speed. She stopped in place and put her palms forward, firing a point blank burst of red energy at the charging student.

This time she didn't hold back at all, firing a blast that was more powerful than any she had launched at Matsuda before (Though not life threatening at all).

Due to not being able to get a good footing, the recoil pushed her back a bit and knocked her off her feet, though if it weren't for the blast being in the way Matsuda would have collided with her before she could hit the floor.

Honestly, he should have expected this.

So, it turned out that she didn't need to charge up after all?

Fortunately, he managed to twist his body mid-air, but he was still caught by a fair bit of the blast and was sent sprawling back down the corridor, his body aching at the impact. He could probably take one or two more hits like that before the strain he began putting on himself could lead to a pulled muscle, or some other injury that made it harder to fight.

Even though it hurt, Takeshi was starting to feel a grin on his face at the fact that his opponent was starting to take this more seriously.

He picked up two pieces of the rubble from his earlier detonations, and began to sprint down the corridor yet again, towards Izawa.

Emiko fell backwards due to the recoil, but rose up to her feet pretty much on the same time as Matsuda.

Firing at him was tempting, but she had a feeling that it won't work again, and so she did the most unexpected thing she could think of.

She fired a weak energy blast at him as a distraction and charged right after it, intending to blast Takeshi from short range again.

It was time for Takeshi to use a trick from Bakugo's playbook.

Filling both rocks with his explosive gas, he held the rock in his right hand behind him and to the side, before detonating it, sending him out of the line of fire of Izawa's energy blast and adding to his momentum as he continued to close the distance.

The moment Takeshi dodged the the first blast she jumped towards Takeshi, placing her hands forward and fired a more powerful blast from short range. With her jumping forward she both closed the distance in an attempt to make it harder for him to dodge, and the kinetic energy from her movement will counter the recoil of her blast.

This was the moment Takeshi had been waiting for. He'd been expecting her to try something again at short range.

As she jumped, Takeshi brought up the other stone in his left hand to be level with her face, and detonated.

She wouldn't be hurt by the explosion itself, but the debris from the rock was almost certainly going to end up in her eyes. The momentum from the detonation also pushed Takeshi back a step, giving him a bit more room to manoeuvre if she managed to get an attack off.

Emiko had only a moment to react before the rock exploded in her face, only managing to somewhat turn her body and head to the side. A moment later and she would have managed to get a shot of, but with the cloud of dust entering her eyes she lost hold of the energy and it dissipated back into her body harmlessly.

Emiko fell to her knees, rubbing her eyes to get rid of the dust with her right hand only raised towards Takeshi's general direction, hoping that he would pause long enough for her to recover.

It was time that Takeshi took the advantage.

Approaching rapidly on the left, side on to reduce surface area, he performed a move known as the Forearm Return, or the 'Kotegaeshi'.

First, he grasped Izawa's outstretched wrist with both hands, before pushing her onto her back, which was followed by him quickly stepping over her body to turn her onto her front, while rotating her wrist around, finally putting one foot on her just to make sure that she was pinned. The end result should send pangs of agony along what felt like the outside of her forearm, as the extensor digitorum muscle in her arm was stretched out. Takeshi also made sure to put his thumb over the pressure point above her Ulva nerve, just in case she did anything funny.

He'd been in a similar situation a considerable number of times during his Aikido training, and while seven-year-old Takeshi thought his sensei was secretly a villain who'd managed to hide from the Heroes, right now he was thankful for the old grump.

"Shirai, Get over here, I think I may have got someone" he said into his communicator.

"Gah!" Emiko cried out as Takeshi pinned her to the floor. It felt like her arm was about to be torn off, and she couldn't move much to get out of that hold, especially with Matsuda's foot on her back. The good news were that she could see again, but that didn't comfort her much.

Her thoughts raced as Matsuda called Shirai. She could try to push herself away from him by blasting energy from her feet, but that would probably lead to a dislocated shoulder.

Clearly, the only option left for her was to blast Takeshi away, but that was really hard to do at her current position.

In the end, Emiko just decided to wait for an opportunity, shuffling in place a bit to try to reduce the pain from Matsuda's hold.
