Go Beyond! (My Hero Academia)

Takeshi nodded in response to the boy in the white Longcoat. "Looks like it. Name's Matsuda. Matsuda Takeshi. Heres to a good time working together." He said, smiling and holding out a hand

Takeshi looked towards the monitor, which now showed a half destroyed building, as well as scenes of a kid in green with a horribly broken arm, and a brown haired girl puking her guts out. "Looks like we've ended up with a hard act to follow up on." He muttered. The action packed scene of the very first test had been like something straight out of a shonen movie, what with the hot-blooded battle between the naturally talented Bakugo and the surprisingly skilled Midoriya. "Still though, I guess We've got to make the best of it that we can. So, my quirk allows me to exhale a flammable gas through my pores that I can channel into objects to either set them up to explode later, of set them on fire. And you?"

Oh good, he has a sense of humor and an actual personality. Quirk's also interesting.

Yes, this is workable and- I guess I'm really treating this seriously.

Oh right, I have to respond.

"Portals." I shrug.

Wait that's probably not descriptive enough. Shit!

"Wait. Let me rephrase that. I can tear reality two new assholes with my hands." I swipe at the air with my right index finger in demonstration. "If I do something like that, I can create a set of portals. Unlimited range too."

Yes, that's more descriptive.

"Also? Don't worry about this so much. The whole point of this simulation is, well, pretty much that. It's a way to build experience. Victory isn't the reward, the reward's what we'll have learned from this whole thing.

Of course, seeing as this is UA, I fully intend on winning." I smirk.

Wow I'm seriously fired up.

"So. Any ideas?" I had a couple of my own. Probably best to let him speak first though. Two heads're better than one after all.

... Also all of my plans involved mass destruction of some kind. Which was not a good idea.

Takeshi whistled at the sound of that. From what he'd heard from his fathers Hero Ramblings, quirks like that tended to be rather rare, which was a shame, seeing as they were so damn helpful. "Not bad at all...I think we can definitely work with this."

"Also? Don't worry about this so much. The whole point of this simulation is, well, pretty much that. It's a way to build experience. Victory isn't the reward, the reward's what we'll have learned from this whole thing.

"Nah, Im not worried." Takeshi grinned back. "A little excited, If I'm honest. It's not everyday you get to do something like this...Well, actually, I guess it IS going to be more of an everyday occurrence from now on," He smiled. "Still, I hope that Izawa won't be too disappointed when we win this thing."

"So. Any ideas?" I had a couple of my own. Probably best to let him speak first though. Two heads're better than one after all.
Takeshi closed his eyes for a few moments, considering the options before him.

Our quirks are good, but there's not as much direct synergy between them compared to If he had a fire quirk, or If I had some kind of laser attack. It's also going to be harder for me to operate on the offensive... Wait... That might work.

"I have a few ideas." He responded, opening his eyes again. "But honestly, the main plan I do have is going to mean you're doing a hell of a lot of legwork. Any limitations with that infinite range thing of yours? Because..." Takeshi turned his voice to a whisper "I think we might be able to divide and conquer our way to victory."

Heh. I misjudged him. Yeah, this is gonna work.

"Don't ask me to spam rifts or create them over long distances." I hum to myself. "That kind of thing fatigues me. Creating rifts over longer distances fatigues me more quickly. I need to know the precise location of where I'm going to create my rifts relative to my position. If it's in line of sight or distances I can judge easily I can eyeball it but anything beyond that and there's a pretty large chance things'll end badly."

I have some idea of what he's going to propose just from his comment. Some method of turning the fight from a two on two to a two on one. Hit-and-run tactics? Just zoning the other side out with our quirks? Well that's just conjecture, should probably let him talk.

Right, I'm missing one crucial detail.

"Oh yeah, don't get stuck inside one of my portals when I close them." I finish. "Not a good idea."

Really bad idea actually. My quirk's pretty lethal if I apply it, eh, incorrectly.

"What about you? Any weaknesses I need to know about?"

OOC: Biking now, won't be able to reply for a bit. Sorry.

"Hmm... If it's harder for you to rapidly throw out your portals, that might effect us. My plan is for you to scout ahead, while I use my quirk to set up traps and the like around the first floor. Then you can whisk one of them away with your quirk to my area, where I keep them pinned down, before one of us moves to join up with the other for a two v one. You're either going to have to try and push past that fatigue or use those portals really cleverly if that's going to work.

Ideally, we target Izawa first. I remember her from during Sensei Aizawa's session, and while she can make good use of her quirk... Physically, she doesn't have a lot of endurance. Also, if you need to use your relative position, what about opening the portal to it opens at the respective point beneath you? It'd save you a lot of effort and calculations. Finally, we're going to be keeping contact with each other on a regular basis, since good positioning is a big part of this plan"

"Still" Takeshi shrugged "A lot of this is going to be at your discretion. If you need to improvise your way out of a situation or bring me into it, don't hesitate. Heck, if you've got any ideas to improve on this, now's the time. Better to get something together now than to have to rush something inside the building."

Takeshi shuddered at the thought "Yeah, I can see where you're going with that one. Not a pretty sight."

"What about you? Any weaknesses I need to know about?"
"Well, my quirks based on the air I breathe in. Taking too many really deep breaths too quickly leaves me feeling lightheaded, and continuing just leaves me feeling dizzier until I pass out." Takeshi replied. "Don't ask me how I ended up finding that out. I felt like hell for a week."

I stared at a wall, eyes glazed over and vision slit. Damn.

I couldn't complain really, but I'd wished I would have gotten the chance to play the hero. Maybe next time.

My partner didn't have a spotless track record either, but I think he was more or less a good guy. Could be wrong, but I listened to my gut.

"Yoganin-san, it looks like we are stuck together for a while. Let's do a good job, yeah?" I had no intention of losing. I gestured for my peer to come over to me, and spoke again.

"I understand if you do not wish to reveal all your secrets to me. Neither do I. But having a clear, if not comprehensive idea of each others abilities will only help."

If it's anything like how I learned I could portal to the United States, I can relate.

Sure, I got there but I almost killed myself in the process so that doesn't mean very much.

Still. That's an interesting idea. Call it plan A. It's probably the most conventional way of going about things. However...

"All we need to do is figure out where the weapon's located and we've won." I muse. "The only obstacle is if they move the weapon. But! If they move the weapon around it hampers the movement of at least one member of their team."

"And if they don't move the weapon they'll have to dedicate at least one member of their team in order to defend the place where the weapon's located." I continue. "Of course that strategy's abusing the fact that this is training. The real world's not going to be so kind."

Honestly our quirks do synergize well. He's the beater, I'm the chaser. He explodes faces, I teleport people to him so he explodes faces. Honestly we could just rush them if it came down to it. Portal into a room, blow up that room, portal out. Hit and run tactics.

However! We might have a ranged option. Scratch that, we have two ranged options with his quirk. I have a lot of ranged options but most of them are probably not fit for this kind of exercise.

"Your gas infusion. Say you infuse some throwable object with that gas." I muse. "Something like say, a piece of the building that's been cut off. Would they explode on impact or do you have to have a method of igniting them? Also, eh..." I shake my head. "Eh, how do you feel about collateral damage?"

"Good point. Lets save just speedblitzing the weapon for the last minute though. If we have no other choice. We need to try and beat at least one other person before that." Said Takeshi.

"No dice Im afraid. The only igniters I have are in these gloves" He replied, showing him the orange coloured palms of his suit. "Doesn't mean I cant do anything though. I can set the rock on fire and use it as a ranged attack, or I can pump it full of gas, so that if its hit by one of my fireballs, it explodes. Nothing on impact though, sorry. As for collateral Damage...Not too much of a problem, so long as we don't replicate the last match."

"Right." I nod. "We'll call your plan 'Plan A' then. I'm thinking Plan B'll be hit-and-run. Portal into rooms, light those rooms on fire, portal out. Rinse and repeat until they have to come out because of all the smoke and fire.

Plan C'll be indescriminate destruction obviously." I nod. "If that's alright."

Takeshi Grinned widely. "Alright man, lets do this thing!"

"Ah-" Emiko blinked in surprised, "Eh, I'm not a villain yet, the match hasn't started yet, you know..." She trailed off, settling for a subpar response to Matsuda's witty remark.

She turned to her partner, observing the imposing figure, unsure what kind of personality would take to ask for this kind of costume.

I stared at my partner from behind my darkened visor. Why was she wishing our opponents good luck? Was she throwing in the towel already or did she just have that little self-esteem? She did seem on the meek side.

"Don't try to fool me evildoer!" Takeshi announced, dramatically pointing "I can feel the aura of eeeevil from you!"

He held the pose for half a second more, before breaking out laughing "Ok, but seriously, thanks for the gesture. It's nice to know that there's no hard feeling between us". Takeshi offered out his hand.

Hm... so Izawa-san was trying to be polite? I didn't really understand these complicated human subtleties. Since it was practice wasn't it understood we'd be trying to crush each other? Ah, but if the other team was too weak, I'd probably feel bad. Then again, since they were accepted into the Academy they must have a certain level of strength, not merely in the physical sense either.

But Matsuda-san brought up a good question indirectly.

@LostDeviljho

"All-Might Sensei, I've never been a villain before, so I'm unsure how to act. Should we pretend to be particularly villainous? Are we going to be graded on it?"

It felt strange to be playing a villain at a hero academy, but I wanted to be clear on what the teachers wanted from us.

Now what did villains do? Take hostages? Make threats? Lie? I tried to recall all the villains I'd encountered or read about.

"And how serious should we fight? Bakugo-san and Midoriya-san's fight seemed pretty violent."

I'd seen worse; I just didn't expect to see it in a school setting. Then again, the only other schools I'd seen had outright banned violence of any kind.

As I awaited for Sensei's response, I idly noted that everyone seemed tinier. Guess that's what happens when your costume adds nearly an entire foot to your height. It didn't feel nearly as heavy as it looked though.

Emiko looked up at her partner, unsure if the other girl was looking at her through the visoe. While Emiko was quite tall for a girl, the hulking suit of armor Arisu was wearing made her taller and wider than the redhead. It was certainly an intimidating look.

Still, both of them had to work together, and since Arisu didn't seem to start a conversation, Emiko had to.

She poked at Arisu's elbow. "Suzushina-chan, we should go to our building. I already have a plan, I think," She glanced at the opposing team, "But let's talk about it when we get there."

Takeshi Grinned widely. "Alright man, lets do this thing!"

I flash a thumbs-up at my partner. "Yeah, let's go."

There're still unknowns of course. Emiko Izawa's a semi-known factor, but her partner, well...

I glance over at that hulking mass of armor clinically.

I've never seen her use her quirk. At all. Even in that quirk fitness test. I know I used my quirk, I saw Emiko and Takeshi use their own quirks, but her partner?

I can't even remember her name. What was it... Suzushina Arisu, was that it? Sounded familiar for some reason. Did she have some kind of enhancement quirk? It'd be difficult to walk around in that much armor with her body-type. No, a suit that size could very easily have an exoskeleton built into the frame, it could very easily be something else.

Come to think of it a costume that large'd be able to have a lot of technological goodies stuffed inside that costume. For all I know she could be wearing hi-tech power armor complete with jetpacks and laser cannons.

The worst-case scenario... Some kind of area of effect quirk. Something similar to Ms. Midnight's quirk would get ugly really quickly. Moreover, it would explain why she didn't use it during the fitness test.

A straight-up enhancement-type quirk would also be pretty bad with our respective powersets. Although that wouldn't explain why she didn't use her quirk during... Personality? Possibly. Ulterior motives? Possibly, but what kind of quirk does she have, it could literally be anything. No point trying to plan around an unknown so-

Oh right, I'm probably staring again. I turn my gaze back towards my partner.

"I mean, if we're ready then I'm not sure what else there is to say." I grin sheepishly. "Let's do our best."

"Alright," I replied, my costume modulating my voice into a metallic melody. I had no objections to hearing Izawa-san out. Perhaps she had more experience with teamwork than me. I couldn't discount the very real possibility.

At the very least, Izawa-san had shown prudence not discussing out plans within earshot of our opponents. We were far enough that normal people shouldn't be able to hear, but you could never be careful when Quirks were involved.

"All-Might Sensei, I've never been a villain before, so I'm unsure how to act. Should we pretend to be particularly villainous? Are we going to be graded on it?"
"It's not required, but if you want to, you may."
"And how serious should we fight? Bakugo-san and Midoriya-san's fight seemed pretty violent."
All-Might's ever-present smile remains in place, but it seems to dim a bit. "Yes, it did. Do try not to let things get quite so out of hand as that, Miss Suzushina."

(( Alright, time-skipping to the start of the 5 minutes prep time for the villains in the 2nd match.

Emiko looked around the room that the bomb was in. Aside from several chairs there wasn't much furniture that can be used to barricade the area, which was unfortunate.

She already steeled herself on the way here, and with her mind set on winning the match she turned to Arisu and started to lay out her plan.

"Shirai's portals will be the most troublesome for us. If he finds the bomb he will just be able to teleport and touch it, not even letting us a chance to fight," She quickly summerised what she considered to be the primary threat they will have to face.

"My plan is to go down to the 3rd floor and blow up one of the walls right now. That will create lots of noise and will focus their attention on that room instead of where the bomb actually is. Of course, we will still have to guard the bomb, so maybe you'll stay here while I'll be in the room under us, I'll also make a hole between them so you can ambush them once they engage me and I'll be able to jump here if they somehow manage to locate the bomb-" Emiko stopped spouting up her plan and took several deep breaths, before speaking again, more slowly this time.

"Of course, if you have a different idea that's fine. But, eh... I didn't really know what you can do, and we don't have lots of time..."

I see. So they didn't care if I used villainous means. I didn't like them since it felt too much like bullying the weak but best to keep my options open.

All-Might's ever-present smile remains in place, but it seems to dim a bit. "Yes, it did. Do try not to let things get quite so out of hand as that, Miss Suzushina."

So excessive violence would probably be frowned upon. Teachers might even grade us down for it behind the scenes. I couldn't be sure. At the same time, they wouldn't stop us if things got a little intense. We should probably keep it as a last resort. That meant I'd have to be careful with my Quirk.

As I followed Izawa-san out, I decided to share these insights with her later.

After I shared my thoughts with Izawa-san, I listened to her plan.

(( Alright, time-skipping to the start of the 5 minutes prep time for the villains in the 2nd match.

"What about Matsuda-san?" While I recalled Shirai-san's Quirk, I wasn't as familiar with our other opponent.

"My plan is to go down to the 3rd floor and blow up one of the walls right now. That will create lots of noise and will focus their attention on that room instead of where the bomb actually is. "It sounds like a good plan," I replied trying to be reassuring. If we were careful with the hole's positioning, our opponents wouldn't be able to see the bomb either, but they might get suspicious if Izawa-san used the holes as an escape route.

"Of course, if you have a different idea that's fine. But, eh... I didn't really know what you can do, and we don't have lots of time..."

Not that Izawa-san could see, but my eyes drifted away from hers in contemplation. Izawa-san brought up an important issue. I hadn't shared my Quirk with her. We were fellow students, but I didn't know if I could call her a friend. We'd only known each other for a few days. Aside from being a future comrade, she was an immediate rival. My mentor had warned me that the Hero Academy often pitted students against each other in competitions that were evaluated. My Quirk was rare. I could count on my hand the number of people I knew with a similar ability. Izawa-san would be seeing my Quirk in action soon enough, but explaining it to her would deepen her understanding.

Suddenly, I was worried I'd been silent too long, so I went with my first reaction - deflecting.

"Will you be alright in an enclosed-space Izawa-san?" In my mind, a blaster could only maximize their potential in a more open, wider space devoid of obstacles, but this was an indoor test with limited space. Perhaps, Izawa-san was an exception, or she'd undergone special training. On the other hand, I had some martial arts training, though I probably wouldn't measure up against a true martial artist in a pure fist fight.

Waaah! That's right, the quirk test thingy the other day wouldn't have been enough to explain it just because I used it a lot! I should have explained it right off the bat after all.

"Right! So, it's like everyone has some gross sticky stuff inside of their hearts you know? And that's normal, but sometimes stuff happens that makes it spread out of control like an infection or mold on a over ripe fruit! Cuz' that's what it smells like too or a bit like wine-" I grimace on instinct. Mom used wine in cooking once in a while and always told me not to touch anything alcoholic because I was young, but once I decided to try it anyway when she wasn't looking. Just a sip. Soooo grooooossss! Never again! I smile again,

"I can smell it and kinda taste it like how a snake does. And it's like a gross horrible sweet darkness just clogging up a person's heart until that's all they can feel. My quirk lets me drain out the bad feelings though! " I beam up at Nawa-chan. "I've got three ways of doing it, the closer the better. It won't make the things making it go away though... I can only eat up the overflows. Like how drains make sure that streets don't flood! Or medicine clears up an infection but doesn't heal a wound by itself."

I bring up my right hand and coax the waiting energy to bubble up, taking less than a second to extend talons over my fingers. The inky black surface almost completely matches the glove of my costume and seems unimpeded by the fabric. So amazing!

"Then, my body transforms the badness into a kind of energy that I can use to make my body stronger or solidify into neat stuff like claws or ribbons! It has to be attached to me though! Can't throw it around, and the stuff can only stretch two meters from me or it'll just dissolve."

I let the claws fade away as smoke. It seems like Nawa-chan is thinking! Aaah, I hope she thinks my quirk is cool!

"Oh, I can bite people to make them paralyzed for a minute too! That's the fastest way to fill up! But it's really rude to just randomly bite people. I'm sure it'll be fine in this case though, since we're the bad guys! Kkhiihihi~"

"Will you be alright in an enclosed-space Izawa-san?"
"Eh- Yeah," Emiko answered in a surprised tone, as she didn't expect this kind of question.

"I'm thinking about breaking down a wall especially for that purpose. But don't worry about me, I can handle myself in a fight," Emiko's word contrasted with her tone, which wasn't nearly as confident.

Sure, she knew she could hurt people in combat, but that was the exact thing she was afraid about. Too much strength and she could seriously hurt someone, but too much wouldn't be enough to win.

Still, that's why she came to U.A. To learn how to use her quirk stop the villains which hurt people time and time again.

"If you don't have anything else to say, I should move, we don't have lots of time."

Emiko turned away from Arisu and went to the corner of the room. She wanted to pressure the other girl to tell her what her quirk was, but if Arisu didn't want to tell her it was fine, too. She trusted the armored girl to do her best as well, and she didn't want to argue with the other girl.

She turned her head to the floor at the corner of the room and put her hand forward, palm open towards the ground.

The redhaired girl took a deep breath and let the energy flow through her arms and into her hands. She charged the energy into her glove, but didn't fire it yet. Instead, she concentrated and made it spin around in high frequency, making her glove emit a light blue light. Eventually, she released some of the high frequency energy, sending a thin blue arc of energy that sliced through the floor.

She did it twice more, slicing a triangle-shaped hole in the floor that was big enough for either of them to jump down easily. The slab of concrete that previously filled the place fell down to the floor below, crashing into the floor of the room under them loudly.

Emiko turned to Arisu without saying anything, giving the other girl a chance to say something before she would descend into the floor below and prepare the bait.

Shoku, who had been sizing his new partner up with artisan's gaze ever since the ballots had been drawn, scoffed at the almost excessively pretty teen's remarks. "A good job won't be enough. Did you not hear All Might? Your best has become merely the norm, and what lies beyond your target." He shook his head while wearing a disapproving look on his sharp face as he approached Yu. "Honestly Daradara, it's like you haven't realized the extent of the burden of expectations yet."

"Putting that aside, I commend you for your discretion and willingness to cooperate and strategize." He continued, expression softening a bit and a small smile creeping up on him "The discretion is wasted on me, however. My quirk was broadcast on national television in full detail the moment it was discovered, so keeping it a secret is utterly useless. I am capable of indefinitely heating and deheating any metal that is not an internal part of someone's biology and telekinetically controlling it once it is in a liquid state. If there is a limit to how much I can control at a time and how far the telekinesis can reach I have not found it yet."

Shoku redirected his gaze to screens, intently studying not the combatants and their performance but the environment they were doing battle in. "And we seem to be in luck. Our battlefield looks to have no shortage of metals whatsoever. Which is why I won't be needing these for now either." He opened the pouch at his side and passed a handful of shiny bearing balls to Yu, each of them about the size of a die. "That black oily stuff I saw you secrete yesterday, am I correct in assuming it is flammable? If so then these will aid you even more they usually would. If you give me a sign I'll heat them for you as you throw one. Should cover some of your bases, should it not?"

While waiting for his partner to respond, Hadrian checked in on his opponents. Looking over, he saw them talking to each, probably already making plans. It wouldn't be fair to listen in but it would also likely be rude to interrupt. With a sigh, Hadrian turned his attention away, hoping there would be a better moment to wish Daradara and Yoganin good luck. Maybe on they way to the testing site?

Waiting's just awful. I go through a couple of stretches while I continue thinking.

The building's five floors high. Ceilings and floors're probably uniformly thick. No way to discern where the villains are. With Emiko's quirk if we go anywhere near the building we'll probably get filled with lasers to say nothing of whatever the heck Arisu's got up her sleeves.

There. The roof. I flick my eyes towards the location, gauging distance.

"Yo, Matsuda." I begin. "You wanna top or bottom?"

Wait, right, innuendo.

"As in, do you want to go in from the roof or do you want me to just portal us right next to the building from here?"

Yes, clarification's important.

Takeshi considered the options. To go in from the roof could allow us to attack unpredictably: They'd most likely expect us to enter from the bottom, like normal. Heck, thats what I was initially thinking of doing. Still, Shirai's quirk does allow for us to do things unorthodoxly.

"Lets take this from the top then. You go down the building while I set up on the first floor, okay?"

All in all, there wasn't any reason to go from the bottom floor in particular. Making full use of their quirks was doubtless part of the exercise, so if they were able to do things out of order, then why shouldn't they?

However, Takeshi's quirk worked better when he had time to set up and make traps. This way, they could hopefully combine the best of both worlds: Shirai's confusing mobility, and Takeshi's explosive objects.

Arata has regrets.

"...the girl's draining. Heh." Arata doesn't turn towards his partner in this venture. The very incarnation of settling down, he isn't fond of pulling up his roots. "Go over your Quirk again. I might got somethin'."
It had come to this. Riku really, really didn't want to go over the specifics of her Quirk. But she must, since pro heroes used Quirks in their everyday job top better society as a whole. So she just had to suck it up and get over herself. After all, she can't become elegant and dandy if she was too ashamed about a part of herself. And yes, leather post-apocalytic styled biker's outfits were totally in fashion. It was why she based her costume on it. Shut up, bikers were totally in fashion.

Crossing her arms over her chest, Riku took in a deep breath and began.

"My Quirk lets me...shall we say, cough up dirt and rocks. The only drain is making sure that I am well fed and on a full stomach, so that I don't end up accidentally regurgitating my lunch instead." She said, bringing a gloved hand up to cover her mouth, voice low and quiet. "I see that your Quirk allows you to become a tree. I find it poetic." Was that the word? "That the both of us are on the same team. Our Quirks being earth themed and such."

"Although..." Riku turned her attention from Arata and looked at the building they're supposed to enter. "How should we go about doing this? Considering the fact that you can't move, it seems that I have to go in alone. But then again, you can just take roots within any kind of dirt and rocks, right?" A coy smile crept on her demure face, a plan began to formulate in her mind.

She could cough up enough earthly material around the building for Arata's roots to settle. And once she laid the foundation for his Quirk, things should come together then. But if they don't, well she could put her, errr, training to good use.

"Poetic. Huh. How 'bout that." This girl has Arata's Quirk slightly wrong - but correcting her is quite possibly the furthest thing from his mind. "Guess that makes me a poet-tree."

He cuts off any resultant groans with a yawn, covering his mouth and nonchalantly switching over to whispering. Just like the spies do it. "So, I figure if we're really so alike, you'll want to get this over with as quickly as I do. Can you give us enough groundswell to make this building airtight? "

...that was a really cool leather jacket Riku was wearing.

As I hovered between indecision, a calming voice entered my mind.

Peace my child. There is no reason for distress. She has not earned your trust yet. To freely give it would make you no better than a jester.

The familiar tone washed away my doubts and filled me with confidence. It was like steel had replaced my spine, causing me to stand taller, straighter. That's right. Assuaging my guilt towards a stranger wasn't worth giving away my tactical advantage.

"Do you have any plans or information regarding Matsuda-san?" I asked, an underlying firmness in my words that wasn't present a minute ago. I needed to focus on crushing the enemy. On the edge of my consciousness, I flexed my claw-like gauntlets. I felt like there was something missing from my grip.
