Glory of the Emerald Empire (Legend of the 5 Rings Quest)

[x] Wait what now? I don't...oh right other people use the baths, wake up Sousuke.

"Hai, my apologies for disturbing you"

We have a flaw: "-Bad Fortune (Secret Love): Someone, somewhere is desperately in love with you, and will do anything to have you". ie, "You have attracted the attentions of a Yandere." Pretty sure it was setting up to be Shasa, until we managed to heel-face turn her into a redemption equals death. *Might* still be Shasa, but other than that I just don't know. Entirely possible is hasn't been decided on yet.

I thought our Yandere was the spirit lady that kept us safe in the shadowlands.

Still what would be hilarious is if that Sosuke is indeed the reincarnation of the guy who was the sun for a while and he ends up in a relationship with the reincarnation of the lady who was the moon.

Yeah. The Hida Yakumo/Mirumoto Hitomi pair has some *history*.

Huh. If that *was* going to happen, we'd probably meet her here.

Something something history repeats itself.

Alternatively, we should try to avoid dueling here. Or at least, not with a Tetsubo while staying on Dragon lands. That would be one hell of a coincidence...

It might be taken... poorly.

Also, yes. Duelling one of the Dragon would be a *terrible* idea, and we shoudl avoid it if at *all* possible. That's what we've been buying up things like Sincerity for. Unfortunately, if it does come down to a duel, we absolutely want to go testubo and full armor, in spite of the potential implications. Sousuke is literally no better at using his katana than he is at using any other weapon he might happen to pick up for the first time.

Wasn't talking about history repeating it's self but Sosuke ending up in a loving relationship with Hitomi's reincarnation while being Yakumo's reincarnation. Not them being hated enemies again.

Oh yeah, meant to say this about two updates ago.

Sosuke has learned a valuable lesson on appearances, realizing that not everything is as they might first seem. He has taken this understanding to heart and grown as a person, and as such he has been awarded 2 Experience Points.

Oh, neat.

So we currently have 4 exp. Considering we're on Kitsuki lands and we're going to speak in public about what we've seen among the way... we should consider raise Courtier to 3 and bank the remaining exp.

Yes, so far we've rolled high on Courtier, but we've been depending on Voiding said rolls, but one more unkept dice never hurts and brings us closer to Insight 3 and therefore, double attack each turn.

If you are concerned about our impact among the Dragon, we might be better served to take storytelling up to 3 instead. Not nearly so good for our insight score, but it's pretty much exactly what we were brought here for.

Raising storytelling might be something to do. It is after all the entire reason we are here. However I expect that we'll somehow end up in combat while in dragon lands. Likely against those bandits when unicorn girl gets called in, so saving xp for combat might also be a thing.

Kenjisu to 2.

Yojimbo, we're it.
That is a *terrible* idea. It achieves nothing for us.

If we get into a fight, we hit them with our club. If we get into a duel and for whatever reason we weren't willing/able to make it include out testubo, it would be iajutsu, rather than kenjutsu... and we're already protected twice from such things by being both pretty smooth and by being a fully qualified bushi of the Crab Clan with all the trimmings (we have the club, we have the armor, we have the training, and we have the still short but respectable and growing tally of dead shadowlands creatures). Kenjutsu does essentially nothing for us,a and iajutsu is covering for a situation that we don't want and are well-positioned to prevent.

I don't remember what exactly our next buy or two was going to be for the combat side of things - I'd have to dig back pretty deep into the archives and/or rebuilt the theorycrafting. Is our character sheet on the front page current? I could have sworn we had better sincerity than that.

While we discussed it, I'm fairly sure we just never got around to upping sincerity. And TBH I don't think it's really worth the effort at this point. Better to throw the XP into storytelling because that's what we're here for on the diplomatic side of things.

On the combat side of things, I think there was talk of raising a few skills. Mainly another point in heavy weapons. Don't remember what other ones we wanted to raise. Maybe defense? There was also some discussion of insight ranks that went over my head.

Should we up our sincerity and keep two xp or should we put 3 in storytelling?
3 into storytelling. Mostly because storytelling will definitely come up, while sincerity is a maybe. Also, storytelling is central to the mission, while sincerity is likely to be secondary if it comes up at all.

The real decision - as I see it at least - is whether to go for storytelling, or to save XP for a combat skill. After all, we tend to encounter combat a lot, and it is our characters main skillset.

Pretty sure the really shiny thing for heavy weapons was the 7 rather than the 5. 5 gets us somewhat cheaper knockdown attempts (costs 1 raise, rather than 2) but knockdown is str-dependent anyway, and str is surprisingly unuseful overall. Hweap 7, on the other hand, has us exploding damage dice on 9s as well as 10s, which does some very, *very* nice things to our overall damage output - in addition to the good things that adding three rolled dice to our to-hit roll would do. Costs 18 overall, though, so we're a bit away from that one as yet.

There were two Earth katas we were looking at - one that boosted hweap damage by a bit, and one that made our initiative suffer, but gave us a nice little bump in DV. I think that the DV one turned out to be overall better, mostly because it stacked well with our already impressive defenses (yay mom!).

We actually got the insight rank that we were gaming towards at that point - and actually, yes it looks like our character sheet *is* current, since we were administered the training beat-downs for insight 2 on our way to the home of the dragonfly.

Defender of the Wall has some pretty hefty requirements, but we can focus on getting those after insight rank 3, as they aren't all that many insight points. (Defender of the Wall 1 on a defense-specced builds has some *hilarious* effects on whether Shadowlands creatures can harm you.)

Basically, all of the combat-side things we're looking at right now are high-ticket items.

If they're all big ticket items, then it's probably worth putting them off until after the mission, and boosting storytelling.

[] Raise Perform (Storytelling) with 3 XP

Edit: Canceling vote due to dice confusion
