Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

Split Hex requires level 10

I agree with Shadow Trap. I think that once we reach level 5, we will get a nice bonus to both Bluff and Intimidate, and we will be able to put ranks into Intimidate.

Also, see this feat:

Cunning – d20PFSRD

It would net us 3 skill points right now (and one extra each level up), but we can allocate them wherever we want. Alternatively, if we go all in into bluff, we can leave it for later.

Later we can probably go for Spell focus, once we determine the line of spells we will primarily use via Dark Secrets
Oh, man, I totally missed that. Gimme a bit to find her a different feat.

Yeah, Cunning is on the table for Kori if we really end up desperate for skill points, but it's too early to pick it up, IMO. Three points isn't much right now.

Spell Focus is definitely something we should consider for later, too. If we get it, Spell Focus (Illusion) will be the best choice, since Dark Secrets gives us access to all of the Sorcerer/Wizard Shadow Illusion spells and we'll be able to learn a bunch of these as bonus spells.

Updated Mina's level up plan, changing Split Hex to Extra Hex (Evil Eye). It's probably one of the best Hexes she could learn, so getting it a bit early makes sense. That means she'll have it ready for 4th level when she learns another Hex. That will be the perfect time to learn Cackle or Misfortune to pair with Evil Eye.

-[X] Skills (6 points): +1 Climb, +1 Knowledge (Nature), +1 Perception, +1 Ride, +1 Stealth, +1 Survival
--[X] Background Skills: +1 Handle Animal, +1 Knowledge (Geography)
Consider maybe some Alchemy for Gorok?

Since he'll propably never have the raw damage-output of a regular two-handed fighter he can use some tricks to compensate and poison fits in the practical direction he's already going.
There's even a pretty decent feat to synergize with his Harvesting one later: Natural Poison Harvester – d20PFSRD

Getting +2 on a DC is almost always nice.

I don't really see Alchemy as fitting with Gorok's character, especially at this point in time. Nothing in his background points to instruction in Alchemy, and that's not something he can reasonably have learned while hunting and tracking underground or through the swamps.

Also, six skill points and a feat is a huge investment for a questionable gain. He's going to be feat-starved enough as it is, so we shouldn't set out to make that worse.

For a hunter in a setting where every second thing is poisonous or venomous I'd dare say some knowledge on the matter is reasonable.

But I guess you have a point about investments.

I am not in favor of alchemy for Gorok, as Cob already has it, although I don't know what to focus on Gorok besides being a ranger. Maybe some history knowledge, to justify his whole recovering ancient knowledge thing?

I feel like Misfortune is way more critical than Evil Eye when it comes to rendering an enemy harmless, but I get its appeal too, so I will support it. Misfortune and Cackle I feel like it will destroy any enemy's ability to realiably attack us.

Gonna need some more votes, y'all. If anyone has an issue with my level up plans, I can make adjustments.

You know, the witch spell list has some really weird and interesting spells. I wonder what we can use from that in the future.

In particular I like Steal breath as an opener for our stealth party. Cheap silence and heavy damage in a sigle strike.

And for an anti-caster Silence effect, they have Lipstitch, which is a really fucked up effect.

Oh, get a bit carried away with my Pathfinder quest

@DragonParadox , @Goldfish , I have an offtop question... well, it's connected to Pathfinder and even to Oracle class, but not to the current situation.
Occult Oracle has an Automatic Writing revelation.

"Automatic Writing (Su): O
nce per day, you can spend a full hour in uninterrupted meditation. During this period, your hands produce mysterious writing that pertains to the future. At 1st level, the prophetic writing manifests as an augury spell with 90% effectiveness. At 5th level, the writing takes the form of a divination spell with 90% effectiveness. At 8th level, the writing manifests as a casting of commune with no material component required.'

Can this writing manifests as divination after 8th level?

Logically I would say yes, you can pick any of the lower spells if you want to, you are just advancing to be able to 'cast' the higher.

I agree with DP. It wouldn't make sense for it to lose that functionality just because it became more powerful.

Arc 3 Post 1: Strange Words, Foul Airs
Strange Words, Foul Airs

Season of Rushing Waters

One can judge the courtesies of a people by the thickness of their hide, you think, shifting uncomfortably on the hard stone floor covered in a layer of fungal detritus and old rags. Xulgath scales, as hard as boiled leather, make for uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, though not half as uncomfortable as the buzz of stranger-thoughts at the edge of hearing. There are no words to them, hardly any sense of direction, but as the shadowless light of embers long put out fills the long low sleeping chamber you find your own dreams elusive.

"Smell getting to you too," Mina whispers in the dark, her own form a heat shadow against the damp cave.

"I can almost forgotten about that... almost," you chuckle. Cob had found a magic armor that fits him among the old chieftain's loot which alone would have been cause for celebration. Alas the armor was otyugh hide ,all the pustulating reek of the creature lovingly retained by some truly insane magician, or else one blessedly born without a sense of smell.

"Do you think it's goblin armor like Cob says?" She asks settling down a few steps away, wincing a little at the hardness of the floor. It would according to Gorok be impolite to scorn their sleeping spot for one of your own making, an insult to their nest building skills. The longer you lie in the dark not sleeping the less of an issue that seems.

"I think that's a given. Size aside who else would wear the thing, magic or no?" you answer, holding your nose, only mostly for effect. Maybe between the two you it will be possible to convince Cob to wear something else on the journey and only put it with a shake of the head on when there's trouble. A moment later you add: "Any luck with the staff?"

She nods. "It's definitely elven make, though I am not sure if it's your elves or not."

"My elves? Oh no," you raise your hands as though to ward off some evil. "I don't want the drow just because I happen to live a bit closer to their damned cities. To be honest I'm not sure the Abyss itself wants them or it would have claimed them by now with how eagerly they worship demons and their ilk."

With only a slightly disgruntled look at the flippant mention of demons Mina continues. "It's an illusionist's staff. Didn't do them much good against troglodyte spears..."

Not recognizing the word you ask her about it and learn that the burn-lander word for xulgath is 'cave dweller' at least in those tongues Mina actually knows and does not merely speak though the power of her blood-blessing. "Don't orcs live in caves and goblins and..."

"Languages do not have to make sense, they just have to be understood," she cuts you off. "I think it's because living in caves is all they do, they do not make weapons like the orcs, traps like goblins and kobolds, poisons like the Iruxi, they are just there." Mina sounds melancholy.

For your part though you understand where she is coming from... well there are more important things to concern yourself with. "Did Gorok find what he sought?"

She nods, relaxing a little against the wall of the cave. "There's a lot of schematics about how to build a forge and even how to find and mine iron ore, though I am not sure how ell Gorok's folk can do that. Maybe they can find bog iron I heard the villagers of Dippelmere fish iron out of the water to beat into fishhooks and hoes. Of course I also heard they only have one leg and hop around like toads and that part sounds a bit silly." From the giggle you would guess the 'little' is an understatement of some kind, though you are not sure why. Odd forms and mutations are common down winding and far off tunnels. 'A stranger beast in every hole and stranger tribes down every cleft' the saying goes. Granted it's meant to prevent young caligini from doing... what you have done pretty much, but that is not the point.

Item Identification Rolls: 17, 26

Mina will be keeping the staff and Cob will be keeping the... fragrant armour

What do you do about the latter?

[] Try to persuade Cob to only wear it in battle

[] Grit your teeth and bear it, it is useful armor that will keep Cob from becoming a Worm's breakfast

[] Try to brew up something to cover the smell on your end (Risks damaging yours and Mina's sense of smell)

OOC: I thought about making this a vote about how gets what, but given what you rolled it seemed obvious so I instead made it a vote about what to do with the consequences of said items.

Not quite sure on the armor.
It does have a bit high armor-penalty for a Rogue's armor (Which applies to many skills Cob is good at, everything Dex and Str based) and the max DEX bonus is +4, which is okay for now, but doesn't work for long as Cob will propably grow better in time.

I'd honestly consider trying to convince him to sell the armor and get something better-fitting for the money.

Edit: Medium Armor on a Rogue, what are the times coming too? Grumble, grumble...

That's a neat beginner's staff for Mina, especially since it has some really useful spells that are not on a Witch's spell list. Unfortunately, none of the spells are on the Witch's spell list, so that means she will not be able to recharge it once all of its charges are expended.

As for the armor, I'm with @Artemis1992 on this one, it's not very good for Cob. The odor is unpleasant enough to make it difficult for the party to tolerate, but it's also something that will make it harder for Cob to sneak around without being detected. Combine that with the -3 ACP to Dexterity-based skills, Stealth especially, and the minor beneficial effects from the armor and it's +2 point higher AC bonus compared to what he's currently wearing don't seem worth it, IMO.

@DragonParadox, this won't be a Diplomacy check, right?

[X] Explain to Cob that while he can't smell the armor's stench, everyone else can, including anyone he is trying to sneak up on. The heavier armor also slows him down and make it more difficult to hide. He can probably sell it when we return to Cauldron and use the money for new armor or something else interesting.
-[X] Failing that, try to convince him to keep it packed away and only use it when stealth and speed are not a priority.

I would say the argument on practical grounds would depend on what context you are trying to convince him in, in this case it would be stealth as Kori tries to explain all the ways in which stinky armour is not good and Cob counters with all the ways he can compensate for it.

Okay, so that means it's all right for Kori to make the argument. Otherwise, Mina would have needed to do it.

Shadow illusions from Kori should eventually be able to recharge it, I think. We will get more spells next level up.
