Californian Command Events:
The State of California in cooperation with the Californian Command begins rolling out policies left and right to restore public morale and faith in the American Dream.

The Brooker Commission is formed to investigate nuclear safety and the long term prospects of nuclear power in California.

The Second Homestead act has ordered surveying for up to two hundred thousand 'temporary' homes of poor but liveable quality to end the refugee crisis and lure away population from the ungovernable Los Angeles.

The life-line program begins with all infants receiving a government issued package of diapers, medicines, basic clothing and toys (simple fare like rattles or pacifiers) contained in a box that doubles as a basic crib along with the opening of a series of day-care centres across the nation which double as vaccination centres in conjunction with a reformed lower education system better suited to uplifting a war damaged population. At the opposite end of the spectrum are multiple retirement homes have opened along with a series of camps for displaced persons. These facilities whilst often incredibly basic are popular in the investment in society they represent being the first efforts at non-emergency wellfare by the state government since the crisis began and a tempting illusion of first world issues in these troubled times.

None of these projects are expected to be cheap or swiftly delivered but the fact that the government of the United States is preparing for the future may just inspire many to believe that there still is a future and whilst there is concern over cost, haste and practicality there is also a sense of excitement that the organs of government work once again and indeed with more energy and purpose than can easily be recalled pre-crisis.


California has also seen a resurgence, indeed renaissance, of private and public radio and television by small outfits scattered across the land, mostly unrelated to the government and of poor quality compared to pre-war works of art despite some surprisingly famous personalities returning to the former media capital of the world to once again remind everyone that America still exists and is still fighting the good fight and providing some kick ass entertainment while it does it.

At seven am local time, Seattle, CTFA troops assigned to law and order duties stormed a low-income apartment complex and apprehended a group of so-called "Freedom Fighters"; intent on setting off a dirty bomb near a CTFA base. Their source of explosives and nuclear material is as of yet unknown; as is how the Chinese authorities were made aware of the threat. Twelve members of the cell were killed during the operation to apprehend them, but three remain alive in a critical condition. Amongst the cell was believed to be noted hacktivist "A4A", who had previously enjoyed a folk-hero esque reputation amongst many Americans.​

The State of Franklin was a typical American successor state, in many ways. It clung to a national mythology of rugged individualism and personal responsibility; and stockpiled arms as fast as they could purchase them. In the minds of your typical Franklinite; the end had come and the black helicopters were coming for you. Everyone else was out to get them - foreigners, coming to conquer what they had been denied for so long. Redcoats in powered armour and Challenger tanks , coming to indenture them a foreign king. The other successor states were pretenders to the throne; tainted by false ideals.

At two o'clock in the morning, September 27th, a barrage of smart missiles screamed across the border. The advanced munitions were followed by a force of autonomous drones and a number of unmarked stealth helicopters; flying low enough to slip by the meagre Franklin air defences. Heavy jamming rendered their air defence command blind, deaf, and dumb as the first missiles struck the capital. Each contained numerous smaller submunitions; meant for use in the treacherous COIN operations that had defined the dying days of the American Hegemon.

All in all, twenty four homes of senior legislators; generals and government officials were struck and completely destroyed. Drones circled the sky, slamming missiles into another fifty homes and government offices. The autonomous weapons central networked intelligence executed it's orders with ruthless efficiency; with civilian casualties numbering in the thousands. Fires raged across the city of Knoxville, and through the smoke and dust came six unmarked helicopters.

Each helicopter deposited a team of elite special forces operatives in advanced exoskeletal armour into various key locations. They cut through the guards tasked with defending the Presidential mansion like a hot knife through butter; fire support drones raining missiles on police cars and officers. By the time any military response could be organised, the President; the heads of the armed forces, the Vice President and many other senior leadership figures were dead. The President's young daughter was caught in the crossfire and killed; whilst security cameras caught the insignia of the New South on several of the assassination teams; despite efforts taken to conceal it.

Within thirty minutes of touching down, the helicopters were in the air once more and on their way south. Several of the drone swarm were apparently dedicated to destroying ground based radar installations on their way out; crippling the already weak Franklin air defence network. Surviving elements of the government managed to organise for medical and fire relief teams to start work; and issued a call for help to the United States (on the Potomac).

American airborne troops leapt into action; dropping onto the Knoxville airport and taking control of the situation there. With the full co-operation of the Franklin government; American troops were deployed to keep order in key areas of Jacksonville and other parts of the state. Within a day of the strike; the remaining leadership of the State agreed to return to the United States.
