Fall of Rome GSRP

I too have been particularly busy with work and other priorities, I'll get my actions in soon.

If we're playing Arbogast as Bauto's son, he should be considerably younger than 41. By this time, the Cursus honorum was meaningles and younger men could climb to a high rank just through the emperor's favour.

If Bauto is 60+ then it is not a problem. He could be that old.

Edit. On the second though, if you want to RP younger character, he will get younger next turn.

Claims about their age vary, but Arbogast should probably be around 40. There might be some indication that Bauto isn't much older at this point, but we don't really know when either of them was born.

They quite possibly weren't father and son IRL, but if we're playing them as if they were, it's good to have them be of appropriate ages.

We are currently similarly confused in game. Bauto is denying that Arbogast is his son, because he is illegitimate child. On the other hand, it is an open secret in Roman court. But this open secret could as well be overgrown rumor.

Yeah, I'm out. It seems @Not ImporTant is set on throwing up a bunch of issues at me that didnt happen IOTL in similar circumstances and in some cases the same circumstances for seemingy no good reason.

Given how limited the action system is, there's no way to adress these issues either.

I am sorry you do not like it. My advice is to prioritize issues that require solving and use diplomacy, so other players will help you with them.

Events that did not happen IOTL are different issue. I would like to hear what you think of them.

About turn 3. You have until late Saturday to write your orders. I am dropping earlier deadline for secret orders for now. Create a conversation titled "Fall of Rome - ruler and nation name - Secret Orders" and send them there, so I will not miss them.

Any suggestions regarding the game overall are welcomed as well.

Well for one thing, the entire army going off to continue the war didnt happen IOTL and there is no reason Wulfila, who was a Romanized Gothic Bishop for crying out loud would want to continue the war. Especially not with the Goths getting more out of the war than they originally wanted.

Secondly the Church Issue while this is not quite how it shook out IOTL they didnt revolt when the Ostrogoths were given Pannonia IOTL mostly because Arianism was already on its way out by the time of the treaty with Rome IOTL, mostly thanks to Wulfilla's efforts in the 340's.

As to Tax Paying, while I can buy not getting all the Taxes, not getting any is not something that can reasonably happen without inviting the Gothic Army to come in and violently demand them. It goes against basic self preservation.

Also Wulfilla is like 70 right now, he isnt invading anyone.

Truth to be told, Wulfila is not ivaiding. Athanaric is.

I did not write that.

Citizens of newfound Gothic lands are unwilling to pay taxes. The Goths do not possess efficient apparatus to enforce willing payment and lack knowledgeable and disciplined officers to set up more forceful methods on wider scale. Greek cities noticed a chance to acquire semi-autonomy and they are taking it.

Doesn't matter, they shouldn't have gotten enough of the army to do so. The only reason the Gothic War happened in the first place was because Valens went back on his word to allow the Goths to settle Roman lands as Foederati. Most of the Army would be overjoyed at having so much new land as well as the alliance that was promised plus plunder.

Athanaric was also not an Ostrogoth, he was a Visigoth. Furthermore he was on his deathbed at this time, dying in 381

Thank you Franks. First, you refuse to stay over the Rhine, then you influence our Emperor, and now you put trash on good Roman Land.
