Fall of Rome GSRP

I would like to hear, how do you plan on leading characters like Aelia, Stilicho or Arbogast? Rebelling from the start or fulfilling Emperor's orders, without your own domain?
Aelia is still a kid so she wouldn't be following nor going against the Emperor's orders. I'll have to see as we go. She'll be shaped by me; of course but I'll shape her according to her environment.

Speaking of claims, I want to make something clear.

If I had 100 and I had to split it in such a way to represent the desirability, the priority of each of my claims, here it is:

75 Tin Hinan
15 Agirbal
10 Exilarch

So yeah, it's Tin Hinan by a large measure. Make of that what you want.

When will you be handing out claims?

Right now.

We lack barbarians in western Germania, compared to players elsewhere. I guess it will be more about internal Roman politics, what is fine as well.

Yes, but less than you are expecting. I am not going to force players to do nothing, or ignore all their decisions. Your court is far from unified and it will be obstructing itself as much as it is obstructing you.

Also. No more charcters is needed per se. We have more than enough players. I was commenting their uneven distribution.

Flavius Gratianus Augustus, Emperor of the Roman West
Heir: Flavius Valentinianus Augustus (brother)
Age: 21
Religion: Orthodox Christianity
Authority: Roman West – high, Roman Empire - high
Roman West
Population: 7,500,000
Army: 180,000 - superior quality (includes troops under his generals)
Wealth: 3,500,000 solidi
Administration: 5 (Actions per turn)

The Emperor of Rome. The one commanding other emperors, should the need arise. Charismatic and intelligent, trained in holding power and commanding since the young age, he is perfect man for the throne. After successful campaign against Alemanni, he now have to mobilize legions once more and rush to the east, to avenge fallen Valens and stop the Gothic invasion.

Hartold, chieftain of Danes
Heir: Hilgur
Age: 49
Religion: Germanic
Relations:
Scanii – war
Wylfings – hostile
Rome - cordial
Population: 40,000
Army: 6,000 – poor quality
Wealth: 18,000 solidi
Administration: 2 (Actions per turn)

Faced with constant raid of northern tribes, especially commonly hated Wylfings, Hartold decided to do what every good chieftain would. He raided anther clan, to make up loses in his own loot. He targeted Scanii, small and rich clan, which also raided them several years ago. Small skirmishes escalated to full blown war. Hartold did not stop it, because his men are doing well, wining and taking numerous slaves with little loses. It might be due to superior equipment Danes forged. Thanks to controlling channels leading to Baltic Sea, they were able to enrich themselves off Roman merchants sailing there regularly and buy a lot of iron and trinkets.

Volmund, chieftain of Saxons
Age: 37
Religion: Germanic
Relations:
Angles – cordial
Frisians – hostile
Population: 45,000
Army: 7,000 – poor quality
Wealth: 15,000 solidi
Administration: 2 (Actions per turn)

Saxon are expanding rapidly, annexing smaller tribes and conquering nearby territories. Volmund persuaded Angles into ceasing raiding each other, a practice with long tradition. It allowed Angles to focus on war with Jutes, and Saxons on southern borders and western shore. They get better and better on costal raiding, sometimes reaching as far as Britannia. This in turn angered Frisians, who would rather pirate nearby shores themselves.

Tin Hinan, queen of Tuaregs
Age: 32
Religion: Shamanism
Relations: Berbers – hostile
Population: 12,000
Army: 1,200 – poor quality
Wealth: 3,000 solidi
Administration: 2 (Actions per turn)

Evicted from their northern lands by angry and hungry Berbers, remains of Tuareg tribe left to look for luck elsewhere. After long journey, weary Tuaregs led by Tin Hinan reached distant oasis. They have little supplies left, but they could live in there. With difficulties and without comfort, but they could.

Godioric, chieftain of the Suebi
Heir: Gudomer
Age: 29
Religion: Germanic
Relations:
Quadi –cordial

Population: 70,000
Army: 11,000 – mediocre quality
Wealth: 20,000 solidi
Administration: 3 (Actions per turn)

Young chief, Godioric inherited rulership over confederation of Suebian tribes in circumstances he would rather keep to himself. Unfortunately, there is already a lot of murmuring among tribesmen and some of more distant tribes would rather try their luck with Marcomanni or Quadi, then stay under his rule.

Damasus, the Pope
Age: 75
Religion: Orthodox Christian
Christian population: 25,000,000
Orthodox Christian population: 12,000,000
Wealth: 200,000 solidi
Administration: 4 (Actions per turn)

Church scribes already prepared the document that is meant to change the face of the Empire. Talk are done, now the only thing left is to gather signatures of three reigning emperors. Christianity will be united and paganism abolished once and for all. Finalizing this work is the best thing Damasus could do to redeem all those poor, unbaptized souls that are still wandering aimlessly through the world.

Flavius Magnus Maximus, Roman general
Age: 45
Religion: Orthodox Christianity
Loyal army: 30,000 – superior quality
Wealth: 45,000 solidi

Man of many talents and ambitions. He knows what needs to be done to save the Empire.

Arbogast, Roman general
Age: 41
Religion: Germanic
Loyal army: 14,000 – superior quality
Wealth: 10,000 solidi

Loyal commander, zealous pagan. He leads legions against the Goths, trying to stop their bands from wrecking more havoc. Already favored by the emperor, it might earn him enough credit to rise to unparalleled position, when he gets rid of them.

Those characters do not have full autonomy. They might feel moral or social need to fulfill orders of characters above them in hierarchy.

Flavius Valentinianus Augustus
Mellobaudes, general
Flavius Magnus Maximus, general
Damasus, pope
Arbogast, general
Flavius Bauto, general
Arsaces III, Shah of Armenia
Gildo, king of the Mauri, of the Berbers

Some technicalities.

Your wealth is generally your yearly revenue, but it also works as your treasury, when it comes to boosting revenue of other players. You can spend up to 1/10th of it on bribes, tributes and gifts every turn. Any more than this hits your overall economy, and needs to be paid double. Effectively, someone gets only a half of what you paid him. Raiding usually makes looted lose three times more wealth than acquired loot.

250 solidi are about 1 kg of gold, if you want to work with something better understood.

You have two days to send secret orders and five days for diplomacy and formulating your actions.
Secret actions have a lower chance of success.
Having character as a battlefield commander considerably boost chances of victory. And death. Other players' characters counts.

Fall of Rome GSRPG - IC - IC - Historic

How historically literate with the period are you looking for players to be, ideally?

Tuaregs ARE Berbers @Not ImporTant.
Also they're not found in central Algeria, Tin Hinan's tribe was found in the deep south.

Nothing to say otherwise.

This is exactly where you are. I think. Look at the name of those mountains on the map. Ufargala. Author did not know geography of central Sahara well, so he displaced those mountains a bit I suppose.

Then you do not like other Berbers. Or rather Tin Hinan is resentful after being thrown out. Sorry, I do not know how I missed their ethnicity.

Fair enough.

Also note that my issue about whether we're Berbers or not is not of a diplomatic nature. Need a relationship with someone, may as well be hostile with the Mauri, so the diplomacy's fine as it is.
