1-7 We Have Options!
The canvas of the wing above your head exploded into tatters, and acting on muscle memory you immediately nosed down and dove towards Riya's ship to spend a little energy. You spared the engine the throttle and kept out of a power dive, keeping focus on not getting too close to the ship while rummaging through your pack for that loose footlong feather you had. You pulled it out, hearing Gunther squawking happily and bobbing his head, as he knew what was coming. You turned your head back to the biplane, that was still trying to follow you, and blew a breath against the feather. Almost instantly, a gust of wind blasted the front of your plane, and a moment later hit the grey biplane so hard it was thrown into a spin like it hit a tree.

Your laugh of triumph was cut short as you felt your plane wobbling, so you quickly locked your hands back on the stick to stabilize. You grit your teeth as you felt your arms and stomach burn trying to keep the plane steady, and luckily managed to. You took a few exhausted breaths and looked behind you, seeing no one there. You turned the plane right around the front of the airship, catching Riya waving her hands at you in an articulate way. Your brain automatically interpreted the hand and arm movement as "Good Hunting", to your confusion. It seemed to be becoming a theme. You scanned around the plane, trying to find sign of the enemy combatant, and finally did see the plane blending against the muddy ground below flashing a light at you. It was a Markgraf Zestorer B, and the gunner on the back was flashing at you. They were a fair distance away, you couldn't exactly see heir features, but they waved their arms at you in a similar manner to Riya, communicating through pilot sign. Oh, so that's what it's called.

WINGMAN CLOSE, SURRENDER, LAND, RELEASE CARGO, OPTION, ENGAGE.

The enemy is currently at Altitude 14. If you dove in to attack that would be approaching from above, meaning they can fire back. In order to not be attacked you'd need to dogfight Turn The Tables. I'm not saying you need to fight, I'm saying that if you want to fight these are the circumstances you're working with.

Current Altitude: 18/29
Current Speed: 11/16
Toughness: 1/7
Strain: 16/16
Fuel: 4/7
Hilda's Rathenau 7k

So y'all have a couple options, obviously. Write your next turn. Doesn't need to be only gameplay mechanic stuff, if you wanna sign back or flip them off or something you can write that too.

[ ] Write in your next turn

[X]Plan: Never give up, never surrender, never say-
-Dogfight (To turn the tables)
-On a success: Get into knife-range

This shit is doing less numbers than I thought it would. Im gonna write the next update probably some time tomorrow morning, if you're holding off on voting.

Woo! We're not dead! And the other guy stuck in the mud! Well, we didn't get hired to sit on our hands…

[X]Plan: Never give up, never surrender, never say-
-Dogfight (To turn the tables)
-On a success: Get into knife-range

…and then we hold down the trigger till it gives *click*

I mean, even if our gun jams, we can always light them on fire instead.

Regardless, I need a couple dice rolls.

So you dove 4, sooo…

Current Altitude: 14/29
Current Speed: 23/16
Toughness: 1/7
Strain: 16/16
Fuel: 4/7
RPM: 2

Dogfight+Daring, which is +4
•-1 from the tail gunner
•+1 because you're faster

After that, assuming you get at least a partial, you can roll open fire. Since you're closing to knife range, you take an additional complication.

After the roll you're reducing your speed by 3.

Daring dicey Dogfight! dice do declare drastic delivery downrange.

Definitely does determine definitive destruction.

That's enough puns. Someone roll open fire flat, with advantage. Absolute range knife. Just a 3d10 roll, take highest, and then roll 1d20+hits if you know them. If not, let someone else.

Alternatively, you can draw a bead for +1 as you add your calm, in exchange for an additional hard move from me.

Tough luck. That's gonna be effective long range, so 4 damage and 2 hits. I need a 1d20+2 now. As a reminder, your plane is terrible so it has a deflector plate instead of an interrupter gear, so if the number on the die is 5 or lower your engine takes 1 Wear. On top of that, a 2 or less on that die means your gun jams. Let's hope you don't blow your plane up yourself. Oh, and if you roll 20 or above with modifiers, roll again with half hits, rounded down. This stacks.

1-8 Good Omen
"Nope."

You nosed down so hard Gunther let go of the back of the pilot seat to go circle around, and briefly felt yourself become weightless. You watched as the speed dial went up and up, the RPM gauge briefly bounce into the red as a worrying pop came from the engine, and the propeller turn into a flat transparent semi-circle in your vision. The tail gunner opened fire on you, but you banked right and kept out of the line of fire with your speed advantage. You circled like you'd been doing this your whole life, not a single bullet making contact with your plane, until the firing stopped.

Your turn. You completed the circle and raced towards them at a perpendicular angle and whispered a quick prayer to Rhona for your shot to be true (and also for your bullets to not ricochet off the propeller and hit you in the face) before squeezing the trigger until the firing pin went CHIK. Your volley went wild, but a lucky tracer zipped through the metal front of the fuselage. You flew a meter or two above their heads and looked back to check the damage. It looked like they were yelling at each other about something, and clear liquid was pouring out of the bottom of the plane. Too much to be the radiator, you must have popped their gas tank. First shots you'd fired in your life, and they hit something important, that had to be a sign.

The pilot of plane reached down into their seat and pulled out a flare gun, shooting a white luminous orb into the sky with a piercing shriek. They banked left, and started to fly away, east. You took a deep breath, feeling your heart pounding all over you body and your hands shaking. You did it! You protected Riya! Job well done! You flew back steady with Riya's airship, who just gave you a thumbs up from the helm. You gave her one back, smiling.

You're about to enter Schwarzstrand! A Fischer village on the coast of the Dark Sea. Now, I will make it in full in the next update, but one housekeeping thing. Riya is an npc, but has the Skyborn move We Have History. You can establish 2 facts about the town, one of which is bad for travelers or 3 facts, one of which is bad for Riya specially.

[ ] Write in facts
[ ] Don't use this ability this time.

[X] Write in facts
-[x] The town has a blossoming balloon fishing industry, building fishing aurships and balloons with techniques and sophistication rarely seen in the region.
-[x] A big public spectacle is about to occur, celebrating the town's origin
-[x] Through sheer bad luck, coicidence and the untimely gift of a scarf, Riya happens to be a carbon copy of the heroine who founded this town hundreds of years ago. They are insistant that she participate in what will undoubtly be creepy rituals.

-[X]The skies around the town are surprisingly favorable to all manner of vehicles, making it a somewhat popular refueling destination
-[X]There is someone with more than a little power in town who Riya owes debts to, someone who intends to make life difficult for her if she can't pay them

Stealing the first one because I do love it

This is my first time posting here and participating in one of these, I'll start contributing original stuff, but honestly these facts are too good not to cosign 😄

Wooo! Fun update and combat and we didn't kill ourself!

This a great idea and I agree!

[X] A Very Special Founders Day Indeed!

1-9 Graveyard
The rest of the flight passed in general silence. You didn't have a lot of spare time to think, however. You had to bank a bit a few times, as your plane started to drift off from the course, but you kept her steady until Riya unexpectedly broke off west from Rhona, heading straight southwest. You followed close behind, obviously, but noticed something off in the distance due south down the river. You'd never been up this high, so it was strange seeing storms from this perspective. Storms crept over the high peaks of the Fokker mountains visible above the tree line in your home coven often, and given you often didn't have anything better to do, you liked to watch them travel across the sky. It was clearly a blizzard, with extremely high winds, with the clouds twisting around a central point. It was a bit early in the year for a blizzard, even in the south.

You flew down next to the airship, waving at Riya to get her attention. She was wearing the scarf you gave her, and wrapped in a blanket. She didn't wear much on the ground, so it made sense she'd need something like that in the air. You decided to try out that pilot sign you inexplicably knew.

OBSERVE, INCOMING, STORM, QUESTION

You signed as a way to ask if she saw it. She looked to the left, past you, towards the roiling blizzard. She looked slightly pained.

AFFIRMATIVE, NOT INCOMING

She signed back. That didn't really make sense to you though, given that from the wafting of the trees indicated the storm should be traveling toward you two.

QUESTION, NOT INCOMING

You signed back.

BOMBING RUN

She signed quickly. You turned your head back towards the blizzard. It was too thick to see through, but you could guess what was inside it. You'd never seen a city before. Not even in photos. Riya didn't look happy to discuss it. You felt like a bit of an asshole for bringing it up. You climbed again and maintained your overwatch position until the town was in sight.

You weren't sure what you were expecting from Schwarzstrand, but something about it just felt off. It was located in a saltwater swamp on the coast of the ocean. The land surrounding it was unnaturally flat and muddy, and most of the trees were bare, despite it only being late autumn. Riya took her balloon down into the enormous artificial pond in the center of town filled with all manner of seaplanes and airships in construction, and you deduced the dirt strip just next to the lake was most likely the landing strip. You circled until you got a good angle, and came down for a soft landing, switching off the engine and gently rolling to a stop. You exhaled hard and took in a long, deep breath. Finally, some fresh air without casto- something smelled like salty meat. Oh goddesses, what was that? You were told the ocean had a "briny" smell to it, though you didn't actually know what that meant.

You slowly climbed out of your plane as attendants ran over to to help taxi your plane. When you pulled off your goggles and looked up at them, it was slightly frightening. The lead mechanic's skin was an odd gray, he had dark blue bags under his eyes, and his smile held teeth like serrated triangles. A kind of numbness crept over you as you explained your business and the fact some bandits harassed you on the way in, just trying to get the conversation finished so you could go find Riya. You could barely hear them anyway over the sound muffling of a long flight. Eventually, you managed to slip away, claiming you'd be back to pay for berthing and maintenance fees later. The flight took a lot out of you. You needed your pipe weed.

No stress triggers, but you get 2 flight stress to a total of 4.

Today bullets flew less than a meter over your head. If they'd been nosed down- you can't think about that. It doesn't matter what diverging tributary timelines exist down the great river of life if you're traveling down this one. That's what your mother always said. Well, she said "Don't worry about shit that didn't happen" but you liked making it a bit more flowery in your memory. You took out your beef jerky on your walk to the lake, passing by more sickly looking children sprinting around, manual laborers, and artists using a sand field as a canvas for complex designs. It reminded you of embroidering back home.

Something that really caught your eye, however, was a mural painted on the wall of an aircraft hanger. It was huge, at least eight meters tall. It was a painting of a woman dressed in flowing, colorful silk, with very tan skin, long red hair, magenta eyes, and a deep blue silk scarf wrapped around her neck, arms extended and smiling. It looked nearly identical to Riya. Text on the bottom read "Anisha waits for us all." You took a bite of the jerky staring at the beautiful mural.

"Hilda! There you are! I can't-" Riya ran up next to you, before noticing the mural you were staring at, and looking up at it.

"It looks-" you started.

"Yeah." Riya finished.

"Creepy."

"Yeah."

You took another bite of your jerky, then lifted your hand up to let Gunther have a bite.

Welcome to Schwarzstrand! It's a quite large Fischer village that has a bustling economy and set of airship yards!

Wealth: +2
Landscape: Saltwater Swamp
Peoples: Primarily Fischervolk
Primary Industry: Zeppelin and Airship Construction
The Pigs: "Peacekeepers" armed with long rifles
Military Defenses: 5 combat seaplanes
Town Symbol: A background of a circle, half yellow on top, half yellow on bottom, with a squid holding an airship on it.
Internal Currency: Precious metal coins, valued by weight.
Who's in Charge?: High Priest Emil Jensen

We're moving on to the Business & Pleasure half of Flying Circus! It's split into multiple segments that I think makes the most sense to go into in order. Starting with Stress relief. Your two familiar vices are cannabis and hallucinogens. I forgot to mention this, but you have Gunther as a confidant. You can spend quality time with him, in whatever way you describe, as a way to relieve 2 free stress per routine. Riya's vices are drinking and casual sex, if you're interested in hanging with her. You can try to indulge in vices other than your own, and with your high daring that might be a good idea! My recommendation? Live a little, do not act responsibly. You have +4 daring, act like it!

[ ] Write in what you wanna do with your night, hijinks will ensue, rest assured. Please tag any activities you want to do as a vice with "as a vice".
