How are you going to make them if they just say no?
surround them and walk them out.
they'll get thirsty sometime while your guys can get food/drink or replacements from outside.

also unless they live all their life inside that zone, police still can take pictures of sellers and buyers and wait for them to leave for an arrest.

Sorry to be a bit of a Johnny come lately, but is this the downgraded version of Summer Raiment?
...Summon ethereal armor and weaponry that's just as strong as what you could buy (MGs supposedly have stronger, though...)

Tribute of a vote and reasoning.

[1] Convoke
[2] Soul Stone
[3] Hallowed Haven
[4] Knight's Oath

I don't know enough about MtG to know how bullshit Convoke is, but everyone who does seems to think so, and who am I to argue against them? Soul Stone, when combined with whatever the Summer Raiment redux will be will let us pull of a very convincing Magic Girl disguise, but I'm not totally sold on its overall usefulness. Maybe if we could bind the ghosts to new bodies down the line it would be more appealing, and would appeal more to my biopunk sensibilities. Hallowed Haven is neat, and it would be nice that we know we can enforce non-violence in an area, but the part of it that serves our magic economy is not as good as Convoke there, so it loses. Knight's Oath would be great with a large, trust worthy team, but this is still set of time so it won't get much use right away.

Of course I'm also very tired and unfamiliar with the setting, so I could be completely wrong. But I don't think I am.

Funnily enough, I'm basing Convoke's power mostly on the description given: at the cost of making a willing target tired, it produces mana that can be used on spells or Constructs. Additional info:
-Plants always count as willing, but tapping them with Convoke uses their reserves of energy, and thus means the plant may be more vulnerable to disease and weather changes, amongst other things, for some time afterwards. Plants have a slight gain in size and mana production when the mana they produce with Convoke is fed back into growing them.
-Constructs degrade over time, fast enough to prohibit tapping a person mutliple times during their lifespan. Constructs can be dismissed to speed up the recovery time of those tapped to produce them. Destroyed constructs don't do this, damaged ones that are dismissed do so proportionally to their remaining mana.

This opens up a rather large array of options, in and out of combat. In particular, it potentially lets us tap into the power of a massive number of people to help us beat Gretchen, and gives us easier access to power when we need it. Need to heal an ally or injured bystander, but our usual mana sources have been tapped? Get a donation of power from another bystander or ally. Want to fix someone's illness? Have a loved one, or multiple loved ones, donate the energy required (a service we could offer quite easily, and get tons of good PR in return, at the risk of becoming Panacea). Want to grow a tree? Tap the grass around it, or all local weeds/invasive species/clinging vines/undesirable flora. And potted plants are now portable sources of power, too.

It's a simple power, but it opens up a vast number of options and possibilities. It's quicker and easier to use than most of the proposed super-spells, and one we'll likely use frequently and with minimal effort involved. It comes with the fewest caveats and the least investment of time in getting it to work. And yet it's still a very powerful tool that we can apply in almost any situation.

@Alivaril How much area does a single Hallowed Haven cover, generally? an single apartment, a suburban house, an apartment building?

The casting cost of Hallowed Haven scales with the size of the targeted area; right now, you could barely cover your two-bedroom apartment in one go.
Barrier strength (and spell cost) scales with the coverage of each Haven. Two touching havens will link to form a single one, enhancing barrier strength.
In other words, one casting of Hallowed Haven covering two adjacent apartments costs the same and has the same result as if you'd covered two apartments one apartment at a time. (2*X vs. X+X)

EDIT: The larger the area to cover with a single casting, the higher the cost.

New vote due to Summer's Raiment removal

I'm not locking the vote quite yet, but I did start work on the next post. Unfortunately, it looks as though one of the better images proposed as possible character portraits (this one) is copyrighted, so that's going to have to go.

EDIT: I've culled it down to the following selection so far (will search for copyrights for them soonish). If you don't like any of these or if you have alternative suggestions, feel free to put them up! (Don't vote yet.)

[] Eyebrows

[] Wisp

[] Backrest

[] Aventurine

[] Sakura

[] Earring

I repeat: Do not vote for that yet. ^^;

These two artists don't seem to have don't reproduce notices in their pixiv profiles. I'm tired of looking because for some strange reason good artists tend to have those.

Okay, locking the vote. HH wins by a pretty large margin. Next post will be up tomorrow noonish.
*sigh* Well, at least one of the ramp options won. Honestly, I can work/live with HH, and it's definitely got upsides that make it competitive with Convoke. But I worry we may end up regretting not having access to the emergency mana supply in the future. I feel like people were opposed to Convoke simply because it's not as...the word isn't "flashy"...I guess "flavorful"? Not quite right, but close enough. People seem to feel it's bland, and it kinda is in some ways. But it's also a lot more likely to save our asses in a tight spot than any other option, IMO. Sometimes, you need power on demand, and slow ramping isn't good enough to keep up with what you need.

Really hope I'm wrong, and we'll never run into a situation where our mana from lands has run dry, and we need more power, fast. And, hey, the Haven will certainly be good for increasing our mana on hand, so it does help with that, albeit indirectly. But I'm still gonna have that niggling little worry in my brain for a while, I suspect. Especially since a lot of our supply early on is going to be going into Havens, since we need to ramp up the local mana generation as quickly as we can.

I move that we cover our apartment first thing (if Alivaril doesn't decide that we already did that to save us the effort). Having somewhere we can feel truly safe can only be a good thing. After all, we can't Witch out for superpowers. :V

The vote certainly seems to imply we have. More to the point, we can use this to get a rough idea of what the costs are like.

(Personal Mana Production: GGGWW)
Our current mana supply.

Now, we may have just tapped our personal supplies. In which case, I'd guess we spent about 4 motes on our apartment. That seems like the more believable option, as 8 motes for our apartment seems way too steep a price to be paying. Not sure of the square-footage, but I would place that at about one bigger Haven or two smaller ones per day, at least for now, with a mote, maybe two, depending on the size of the places we cover, in reserve.

We may need to be careful how we go about building our Havens, though. Kyubey may notice the discrepancy between how many Havens we've made and how many full Grief Seeds we're turning in, if we stand out too much. Especially something to consider if we're doing a lot of them in one day.

Our appartment sounds pretty spacious. Maybe something like 100 m2.

Yeah I at least voted for HH and Knight's Oath over Convoke because I like their aesthetic more than Convoke which, as you say, is kind of bland. Like it's fine but doesn't seem particularly interesting to me, since it's basically "take mana, make minion" at best and "take mana" at worst. It might be powerful but HH is competitive and also interesting and Knight's Oath... well, whether it's competitive depends on how many friends we get that are willing to serve us, but I still like its aesthetic more than Convoke's.
the solution is to become a mob boss and demand service i think
