Ethereal Academy

Oh that's perfect. The bullet time alone is pretty powerful, and we'll be better at on-the-fly complex Ethereal Manipulation workings than just about anyone who doesn't also use the two together. There might be some prodigies that can put more raw power or such in, but if we can do really complex things in a split-second, we can make up the difference.

It's looking like I'll have the update up by tomorrow, was a little too busy to finish it today. "Wait for the crowds to disperse." has nearly all the votes, so that's what's being written. The vote for Working is much less decided, (Eye of the Sandstorm 5 vs Unchallenged Blade 4) so that's still up for change. Also, if anyone would like to see names, the proposed ones are as follows:
[X] Garra (1 vote)
[X] Soheil (1 vote)
[X] Lark'aan Jedeer (2 votes)

[X] Soheil
[X] Eye of the Sandstorm
[X] Wait for the crowds to disperse. You'll have to wait anyway, so you might has well do it sitting down. Besides, it looks like someone else has the same idea, so you'll have some company.

With a last glance at the throng of students pushing their way towards the dorm assignments, you sigh and prepare yourself to wait a while longer. Even if it is a little boring, it's still better than having to force your way through a crowd. Besides, you had the rest of today and all of tomorrow, so it's not like you need to rush. Instead, you turn your attention to the person sitting a couple rows down from you.
She looks familiar, and after a moment you manage to place her as having been in the same train compartment as you. She's turned around to watch the swarm of students, and you catch a glimpse of a tattoo encircling her neck, almost hidden under a sweatshirt. From your angle it's hard to make out much of the details, but the tattoo seems to be depicting a dragon.
"You don't feel like fighting through that either, huh?" she asks, having noticed your attention, "Hey, do you know what was up with the Headmistress? I'm pretty sure those were bloodstains…"
"I don't think they were her's, she didn't act like someone stabbed her," you answer. On second thought, if she can teleport across the school so nonchalantly, there's a good chance she doesn't have to worry about injuries like that. You're about to amend your previous statement when you glimpse something moving around neck. Her tattoo was... writhing?
"What are you looking -" she looks down, notices her tattoo was showing and hastily does her best to cover it with a hand. "Sorry about that, I do my best to cover it up. Anyways, I think we've forgotten introductions. I'm Lara."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Soheil," you aren't entirely sure what's going on, but her tattoo is almost blatantly magical. Perhaps she's worried you'll take offense, or think it a threat? Certainly, if the Headmistress' comment on medical care was anything to go by, some degree of violence was expected. Either way, it's probably best if you try and clear up any misunderstandings, "Don't worry about the tattoo, I was just a little off guard."
She breathed a sigh of relief and took her hand off her throat. "Well, that's good to know. I apologize if it weirded you out, I've been told it can be a little creepy."
You spend the rest of the wait talking, although most of it was of little import. However, before the two of you split up to go your dorms, you did ask her about…

Choose One
[X] Her tattoo. Why the hell was it crawling around like that? So what if it's a little blunt, she seemed most worried you would freak out about it.
[X] What her class schedule looked like. You were kind-of-sorta friends, so it'd be nice to know if you were in the same classes.
[X] If she knew any tips about the school. You had heard a few before you came, but nothing very specific. Maybe she would know more?

When you got to your dorm - 205 - you found it uninhabited. Someone else had left their stuff, just a suitcase by the kitchen, but it looks like they left right after. A quick double check let you know that, yes, nothing else of notice was in the dorm. There was, in addition to two small bedrooms, a nice looking TV and couch. Unfortunately, the kitchen was little more than a stove-top oven, microwave and small fridge. Your investigations did find a helpful welcome pamphlet, which informed you that dinner would be at 6 PM in the cafeteria. It's looking like you have some extra time to burn.

Day One 3:00 PM // August 26th, 2009
Choose One

[X] Unpack your things and tinker a little. You didn't bring much, but you are an artificer, and you could use some of this time to prepare. Besides, your roommate might come back in the meantime, and you could introduce yourself.
[X] Go out and tour the premises. Familiarizing yourself with the campus seems like a good idea, and something interesting might happen.
[X] Go meet up with Lara. You can unpack your things then go see her. You shouldn't need any charms anyway, what could happen on the first day? You might also be able to formalize something of an alliance with her…

So, do people have a preference on where I put the character sheet? I'd rather put a link to it up (it's currently in pastebin), but if people prefer having it on SV I can spoiler it up and post it.

I wonder, can we synergize our Artifice and racial Workings? Charms that focus on sand, for instance, or inflict curse effects that work well with our Desert curses? A charm that inflicts deafness to go with a curse inflicting blindness, or pairing exhaustion and confusing effects. How does Artifice work, for instance? Can Charms be recycled for materials, or have the non-reusable bit be modular, allowing us to use them like a gun with raw magical batteries as bullets? Could we create sand constructs that a Charm could vitrify into nifty glassy contructs, for example?

She's sensitive about the tattoos so don't pry

Get geared and meet our roomie.

We can ask about the tattoo later. Doesn't sound like an immediate concern from how she acted.

We've got enough firepower through Ethereal Manipulation and Eye of the Sandstorm. Plus, Lara's gotta be strong enough to hold our own. I doubt this will lead to a Bad End.

Well, while you can't do that at the moment, in the near future you'll have options to research/improve your skills. If you'd like to pursue this, you certainly can.

Character Sheet
I'm very curious as to what we CAN do right now. I know our thing is charms, but that's... very vague.
Oh shit, totally forgot to link the character sheet >.>

Sorry about the herp derp. Again, would people rather this be in a more formatted post here, or is it fine on pastebin?
Also, to further answer your question, you can do things generally related to your abilities as well. Just because it isn't written out doesn't mean you can't do it - it just means that you aren't exactly well practiced at it. Also you can do most effects in charms, but their limitation is that they are very specialized in scope.

It was a close vote, and the name feels pretty ambiguous to me, so I'm leaving that vote/discussion open. If there's no real lean either way, I'll end up flipping a coin, or something to that effect, for the next update.

On that note, notmi did post a couple possible character pictures.

Best to be prepared.

Missing a bracket on your second vote.

[X] What her class schedule looked like. You were kind-of-sorta friends, so it'd be nice to know if you were in the same classes.

"Lara," you begin, "What classes are you taking this year?"
"Hm?" she seems a little confused at the sudden question, "Well, I'm taking European History, Ethereal Theory, Mythic Beings and Ritual Binding." That is... actually kind of weird. Mythic Beings is supposed to be a pretty useless class, seeing as they've all but died out. "Hey, don't look at me like that, history can be interesting!"
"Who's teaching your Ethereal Theory class?"
"Professor L'Arc, why? Do you have it too?" Well, it looks like the two of you share one class,

[X] Unpack your things and tinker a little. You didn't bring much, but you are an artificer, and you could use some of this time to prepare. Besides, your roommate might come back in the meantime, and you could introduce yourself.

It didn't take long to set up your workshop, as you'd done it some dozen other times before. Really, the hardest part was filling a bucket with water, just in case. You had learned safety precautions pretty quickly after your first couple of… mishaps. Your brother still hadn't stopped teasing you over those.
You consider meeting up with Lara, maybe talk about exploring the campus tomorrow, but the idea of leaving practically defenseless didn't sit well with you. The only reason you had even traveled without any charms ready was because you figured finding the time to do maintenance wasn't worth the effort while traveling.
Of course, you had made sure to bring components you were familiar with, and a quick once over of your materials and you had a rough plan of what you were going to build. There'd even be some left over materials to experiment with your new idea, although you might want to be on the lookout for a more powerful reagent to base it around. The school had advertised on campus magic stores, maybe you could look around there?
Pick 3 (You can choose the same option multiple times)

[X] <Encircling Aegis, Combat Long, Self Buff>
An old favorite of yours. You usually build it in the shape of a ring with twine or something to that extent twisted around it. When used, the string unravels and a nearly invisible, circular shield appears around you. Encircling Aegis is a potent defense against all magical attacks (6 Ethereal dice), and helps to deter most physical threats (2 Physical dice).
[X] <Devouring Wave, Targeted Area Attack, 3 Rounds>
A thumb-sized blue beetle on a necklace, it looks like an entirely normal, if scarab inspired, piece of jewelry. At closer inspection it is composed of hundreds of smaller bugs, that seem to shift as you watch them. The beetle will turn into a swarm of consuming insects that attack area of your designation. The individual insects can bite and sting (2 physical dice), but they also magically devour their surroundings (4 ethereal dice). Devouring Wave cannot tell friends from foes.
[X] <Drop of Sunlight, 3 Rounds, Targeted Buff>
A small vial containing a golden liquid that flows like honey. You do your best to keep it tightly sealed, because when bugs get in they grow to some massive sizes. The Drop of Sunlight can be drank to regenerate (8 health a rounds) for 3 rounds.
[X] <Dust Devil, Summoning>
It might not be an *actual* dust devil, but you had thought it a fitting name. The Dust Devil will follow you around as a barely noticeable wisp of sand, but at your command it will grow to nearly three feet tall. It can understand only very simple commands (defend/attack/retrieve). It's attacks are limited by it's small form (4 physical dice) but if an enemy doesn't actively defend themselves the Dust Devil can attempt to choke them. The Dust Devil's nearly immaterial form leaves it more or less immune to all physical attacks (12 health).

You had just started cleaning up when a clawed hand grabbed your shoulder. Nearly jumping in surprise, you drop your supplies all over the table you were working at. The hand was connected to a … well endowed kobold female. She looked like a five foot tall wolf wearing a plain T-shirt and what seemed like a random assortment of earrings. "Hey there," she says, looking insufferably pleased with herself, "you my roomie?"
"Uh," her grin was full of teeth that might as well be knives... "Yeah. My name's Soheil. Nice to meet you." You were about to offer a hand to shake, but she interrupted you with a sharp tug on your arm.
"I'm Anya Lendert, now let's get going!" she starts doing her best to drag you out of the room, "Don't want to miss dinner!"

Day One 6:05PM Dinner // August 26th, 2009
Choose One
[X] Go find Lara. You don't really want to imagine eating at the same table as Anya. [++ Lara relationship increase, ?? Meet Lara's roommate.]
[X] Eat with Anya. As much as she unsettles you, it'd be kind of rude to blow her off when she made sure you got to dinner. [++ Anya relationship increase, -- She's kind of scary… -- Seen eating with a kobold]
[X] Rush through the meal. Talking at dinner didn't sound that fun, especially when you could be picking out a base for your Chained Artifice. [++ Can finish your Chained Artifice first thing tomorrow. -- No relationship increase, -- Exploring alone]

[Lara Ramsund] 6/40 "Friend?"
Tall, blond haired with a dragon tattoo around her throat. It seems to be a touchy subject with her.

[Anya Lendert] -5*/40 "Scary Roommate"
A well endowed kobold who happens to be your roommate. She looks a little like a giant wolf that walks on two legs.
(* it's not that she dislikes you, it's that she scares the shit out of you)

[X] <Encircling Aegis, Combat Long, Self Buff>
