Dragon Summoning

You got a 6-dimensional hangover from a potion the craps over all over most of the laws of magic physics and good sense, and Edaine's first reaction is "Neat!"?
I'm beginning to think this kid has zero practical magical experience even if he has clear talents. Just how cloistered has he been?
It isn't just the desperation ,definitely getting the sense that he doesn't really give a lot of consideration to the consequences of what he's doing.

[X] An hour or two. If Zalan wants to try retrieving another dragon from the tantara before anyone else, they'd better get moving soon.
You would regret skipping the offer of a bed.
All else aside, clearly the ritual works. We can't pass up an opportunity save someone else. How many of your fellows could still be stuck between realities right now? no matter what else, this world seems less dangerous right now than whatever that is.
If that happens though, you going to need to have a Real Talk about the Binding ritual.

-[X] Does Zalan know any dragons who would say 'if I was back in the old days when dragknslaying was a thing?' Or at least interested in being In This situation?

Has the area been secured? And how likely is it that a Lancer or an hostile beast stumbles on this location. It is not paranoia if there is an enemy and you are about to do something that will completely exhaust you.

[X] Take time to think about how to help. Fox mage gets in trouble that could be trouble for you, and his boss might try to throw bindings at you (or the enemy might) and then the jig is up.

[X] Needless to say, no violence unless there's no other choice. You don't know what these primitive bipeds are fielding and you don't want to.

[X] Think about you rescue mission with Tieran-Sha. What helped? What would have helped? Besides a fuck-you weapon for that fucking human.

-[X] Tools. Communication. Knowledge so you didn't have to check every lair. These things you can do, maybe?

[X] Pray to Demiurge/that which is above Tiamat to make a Dramatis Personae threadmark

-[X] What's a threadmark, maybe this hangover is worse than you thought

But he must have understood how horrible it feels, right...?
Intellectually? Perhaps, which is why he is trying to be so conciliatory.
Emotionally? Very doubtful. Such things can usually only be learned through personal experience.

"That sounds... incredible," says Edaine.
"I don't suppose you have access to more...?" Edaine asks in a small, small voice.
Tremble before our superior pharmaceutical knowledge!

exposition on the general situation
Could be a lot worse. Could be better, but I think we can leverage this.

"Are we so feared?" Zalan asks.

"Yes," says Edaine, flat and unemotional.
Given the glimpses we saw of the combat dragon fighting that giant monster? Fear is entirely rational and appropriate.

Zalan pauses. Maybe he shouldn't agree right away. Maybe he should make a show of reluctance.

But the thought of a warm bed, and of not having a warm bed anywhere in the world, is too much. Zalan nods.
Everyone has their price. Sometimes that price is really cheap.

"I'm... I got enough... uh... illbeokayjustgive give me a second," squeaks Edaine.
Could be spiked mana leading to a bad reaction. Could just be that Edaine has vastly smaller capacity than Zalan.

Better to have proper safety and comfort sooner rather than later.
Plus they may be less frightened and more sympathetic if we stagger in exhausted than turn up fresh.

I really REALLY think we need some rest after all the crap we've been through and trying to pull off a complex ritual while half dead seems like a really bad idea but if their is even a chance we can save someone from back home I feel that we're almost obligated to at least try. I blame our hall monitor buddy for this mentality by the way.

Also good to see you up and at it again Ralson, hope you're feeling better.

Maybe we should come clean with the idea that their mind control doesnt really work on us? If they are serious about giving us the choice, then they should be aware that we never HAD the choice taken away from us to begin with.

More dragon adventures, yeah!

I love Zalan's expressions. He's so done.

"Are we so feared?" Zalan asks.

"Yes," says Edaine, flat and unemotional.

"I don't fear you," says Adia.

Edaine opens his mouth, but Adia continues before he can interject.

"Listen... I don't really know anything about you, Zalan. But, if it suits you, come home with us. We'll feed you and find you a dry place to sleep. Then after your head's screwed on straight, we'll figure out where we stand. Okay~?"

This whole exchange is great. Everyone opens up a little, and Adia demonstrates her ability to be diplomatic by once again treating Zalan as a person instead of a monster. Even if she's actually screaming internally right now this kind of treatment is the best way to get through to Zalan right now.

Big lmao at Edaine's reaction to Zalan's rancid mana.

Zalan needs rest but this is still the aftermath of a crisis situation. Take what you can, then continue the work.

Who knows, maybe the villagers will want to help? Rescuing some dragons from interplanar limbo in exchange for combat support might be one way to sell things.

Maybe the ritual can be targeted. You might be able to summon one of the air guard, if they got caught up in things, or even Tieran-sha specifically if he's still out there.

Let's delay the mental breakdown for now.
Also we should check for side-effects from giving our elixir tainted mana if we can.

Zalan is annoyed that Edaine seems so eager to make him a recurring mana source, but then, just about everything seems annoying right now. Maybe it's good that he has some use that's as easy as breathing, because he strongly doubts there's any programming positions open around here...
If he can use his Interface Terminal module to write new spirits/make a spirit from a script, he could be really helpful as a programmer.

To be fair to Edaine, he didn't say neat to the hangover, but to the description of the positive effects of the elixir.
And the elixirs effects were pretty impressive.

Maybe we should come clean with the idea that their mind control doesnt really work on us? If they are serious about giving us the choice, then they should be aware that we never HAD the choice taken away from us to begin with.
Still think we should wait at least until Zalan is rested.
Probably also build up a bit of trust, but definitely have Zalan rested enough that he can run away if he has to.

Could ask the villagers for help, as Rarden said. Or:
Could go along with Edaines idea to try again without asking,
- and talk with Edaine to get him to summon without binding (question is how)
- go along until it is too late for Edaine to back out, then bluff by asking "uhm... who is gonna bind the second dragon? The stories we have on fulcrum are pretty clear that trying to bind 2 dragon-level-beings is very very dangerous to the caster"
- put ourselves between Edaine and the new dragon and get bound again, wasting the resources Edaine needs to bind and protecting the other dragon. (unless we now the dragon to be protected from bindings)
- reveal that the binding failed and blackmail Edaine.

Don't even need to go as far as real combat dragons. Remember the breathweapon Tieran used to cut the debris to free Seyr? Imagine what that would do to a group of lancers charging at you.

Edit: fix'd Typo,

Welcome back Ralson, hope your eye issue is going well.

[x] An hour or two. If Zalan wants to try retrieving another dragon from the tantara before anyone else, they'd better get moving soon.

[x] When rested enough, offer to carry them to get to their home faster. Proper rest and food await.

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, when has that stopped him from going to bad decision town so far?
:p

Zalan needs some hardcore rest. I doubt an hour is going to cut it.
Might be enough to get him to a proper bed rather than a hard stone floor. Plus, tired as he is he might get swept up in their "we need to get home, then we can return tomorrow" and see it as the best chance to save more dragons from being summoned by a worse mage (or being the victim of whatever calls the Tantara their home) without realizing that he could: get sleep now, run to their home at full speed, let them gather their supplies, run back to atelier to save more dragons.

So the issue with summoning another dragon is: Does Edaine intend to bind them too?
Because we are mostly alright with whats going on right now because we aren't nearly as bound as they think we are.
But summoning another dragon who may not have had their inoculations sounds really problematic.
But it might be the lesser evil.

Now if we are planning a sudden but inevitable betrayal then tricking them into summoning another dragon just to interrupt them before the binding sounds like a perfect time. But not if we are planning to work with them.

If we summon another dragon who is inoculated though there is no guarantee they would be willing to play along with our charade.

... worst case scenario, given that neither side of this transfer seems to understand the side effects fully, the fox ends up more concerned with being part-dragon than his prior issues.
Like most worst case scenarios this seems quite unlikely, but if Edaine suddenly starts growing larger then it might be a concern.
With any luck it is just the hangover.

At a minimum it is probably better to wait a couple of hours to see if there are any longer term side effects, instead of going to sleep only to find out in the morning. If it does get worse then you can always try to rest here after waiting.

Do we have any plan yet to avoid other dragons getting enslaved? Not all of them got the inoculation. And we just got told an uncontrolled dragon is a big 'no-no'. I mean, we could stop our resident mage from casting the spell, but then we won't rescue any more dragons. And if we let him cast the spell, we might have to fight one or more of them later on when it's discovered that we are uncontrolled.
