Dragon Quest Online (SAO/Worm)

Let's see... I know nothing about SAO, other than "My numbers are bigger than yours!", but I feel I can still make an important contribution:

*puerile giggle*
Watch the full Abridged version then. 10th ep just came out. I also recommend this to everyone else.

Talking about it, which is closer to this quest? Abridged or Canon?

There are teleport crystals.

*checks*

Well, with its slightly annoying activation method, I see how PKers got around that, but seriously? I'd figure that'd be logic 101, always have an escape route.
...The big thing is that they eventually learned how to bypass the safeties and assassinate people in their sleep.
I'm not a huge fan, so, this is may be wrong, but my understanding is that most of the players learned to sleep much less, since their 'bodies' didn't need it, but still being human and having human minds, they couldn't stop entirely.

On the one hand, yes absolutely. On the other hand it still didn't save (presumably) dozens of players in canon that were victim to anti-crystal traps, sudden shifts in boss attack patterns, or the fucked combination of both. They're primarily a method of transportation rather than a get-out-of-combat move, which figures since Kayaba intended magic or magical combat aids to be practically non-existent outside of the special location events, and the super-rare seasonal events.

Important part that has been pointed out earlier but not in the post you quoted:
Silica: the only one of these five who dies in canon.
Nah, Silica got a fate worse than death: She survived to ALFheim and joined the harem.

Excuse me, I think you have my interest... I suppose you can keep it for now but please take good care of it.

Not entirely correct. The way people did the PKing was by basically moving a person's hand to accept a duel. Because there isn't any pain in game, people tend to sleep quite deeply and the feeling of movement doesn't wake everyone up. This method of player killing was so wide spread because people in the early game couldn't afford the hotels and other lodging where a private room would have prevented others from coming in.

People stopped sleeping outside if they could help it.

In canon:
Yui - Mental Health AI
Silica - Little girl who later gets a dragon pet
Lisbeth - A blacksmith
Asuna - Main love interest
Argo - Info Broker

In a bit more detail:

Yui's chosen avatar looks like she's 8-11 years old. She was Kirito and Asuna's adopted daughter, and for the brief time where she had admin access, was overpowered as hell. See previous page for a Lil' more detail.

Silica was 12 years old at the start of SAO. Her "dragon pet" was a member of the species called Feathered Dragons. Pina, the dragon, about the size of Silica's skull and could fly, attack, and heal.

Silica later joined Kirito's harem. It's exactly as creepy as it sounds. Yes, several people have already gotten to this and I've acknowledged my mistake. You can stop replying to it now. :p

Lisbeth started forging Kirito's weapons after he casually broke several of the weapons in her shop. Because, Y'know, the author of SAO enjoyed making Kirito a blatantly overpowered one man army.

Asuna, like most of the others, would've been more interesting if Kirito hadn't wandered in and sucked all the depth from her. She was a front-line (the top tier players, basically) DPS specializing in rapid hits and dodging pretty much everything. Also a great cook. Reduced to waifuness when Kirito came along.

EDIT: Forgot Argo. IIRC, she's one of the only memorable characters in all of SAO who wasn't sucked in by the black hole Gary Stu known as Kirito. Famous for being pretty much the best information broker in SAO, she also compiled a (free) guide for new players when the death game nature of SAO was revealed.

In the beta, Argo chose to keep the red whiskers (makeup) given for an in-progress quest. When SAO started, she chose to imitate the whiskers with makeup until she could get the permanent marks from the quest.

TL;DR: SAO would've been so much better if Kirito didn't exist or was written way differently. :V

That is literally a bug that violates how the game is supposed to operate. Also, I don't like Yui because she totally fucked over one of the core aspects of SAO, the tension that people can die permanently.

Well, yeah. The game designers didn't plan on players sleeping on park benches in game. Hell, they made a token amount of planning for players sleeping in game only because of the potential for actual sex to happen.

Out of pure curiosity, if Kirito turns up, can we please punch him in the tit? Or just save everyone from being forced into his harem because plot? No one deserves to have all of their depth drained away like that.

The mischievous, energetic Argo would be a good foil for the straight-laced Dragon.

Lisbeth is second because we might be able to make some cool shit with her since we are an AI. Asuna is third because we can drag her out of the depths of despair she will fall/has fallen into. Silica is fourth because she is kind of boring because she's kind of boring but has the potential to be awesome. Yui is fifth because I find her description too cliche.

Unfortunately, I suspect we'd be lacking in IC reasons to do so. His contagious blandness means Dragon would have no real reason to go after him.

I would settle for him being completely overlooked. I really would.

If we can steal the show well enough, that could work. Just make it so that no one pays attention to him in the first place, etc.

I may be blinded slightly by my intense hatred for what I feel is a prime example of one of the worst sins a storyteller can commit. Having a boring main character. Even worse, he's a boring main character that everyone seems to find oh so interesting for no damn reason. It just makes me so damn angry that such a cool setting was spoilt in such a way.
