No, no. This is Stellaris, where territory size directly translates to military power and I can't use their homeworld. It's a desert.
What you do is enslave the entire race and use them as disposable colonists for planets your own people aren't suited for. You only purge the ones living on the Gaia worlds, because your own race can live on those.
Regardless, that'll be a quick part of my evening. Despite their impertinence, the lizard people are a fraction of my size, literal centuries behind my own technology, and xenophobic isolationists with no allies. My still-under-construction scout fleet on its own has twelve times the combined power of their entire navy. And the first thing they did upon First Contact was declare a rivalry with me. I was going to ignore them until I had the rest of the galaxy under my heel, but they've made themselves obnoxious while I was busy killing space dragons, so it's time for their nation to die.
