So anyone else here wondering what kind of digimon we might have been in the past? As while our current reincarnation is rather skittish and afraid of most things, the times where it looks like we get bleed over with our dream and rage has me thinking we might have been a rather powerful virus type. Possibly even a ultra or mega back in the day, as you don't get one of THE angel type megas like Seraphimon on your ass unless you are up to some real crazy shit. Since there is no way you end up dealing with megas or get their personal attention just by collecting bottlecaps and the like.
The dream sounded like the Seraphimon was ridiculously out of our league. So we might have been some random nobody underling of someone really bad.

If that was the case, what could we possible be up to that could garner the attention of a mega though?

As there isn't much I could see a champion getting up to that could bring down that kind of pain on their head.

Character Trait Analysis
With the latest update posted, Verge's base character traits have all been fully finalized. I have to say, it is certainly an interesting set.

Kind, Devotion & Wrath. Though, the last trait is currently hidden by Verge's cowardly and shy traits, only coming out when he's backed into a corner or forced to be particularly emotional about something.

Now, what these mean for our young protagonist is actually pretty big.

Having Wrath as a sin means that Verge has the potential for Great anger. To go to extremes beyond normal digimon along with a tendency to get angry when shit does go down. It's not very developed as of yet and is actually suppressed by two traits (shyness and cowardice) Whether Verge manages to end up controlling his anger or not depends on the choices made in the future. Wrath can act as a very potent emotional fuel, While Restraint would have helped a ton, the next trait actually could also be used in that regard as well.

Devotion means that Verge can, and will get extremely invested in certain things be it friends, a goal, or....other things. This actually comes with a lot of potential for extremes and trauma as awell as benefits. For instance if Verge devotes himself to another digimon but ends up being betrayed, there's a good chance of him flipping to another extreme and promising to get vengeance even if it's the very last thing he ever does. It's very much a matter of going further for things than other digimon. Adding in Wrath means that if he ever truly hates anyone it will be really, really, REALLY strong On the other hand, devoting himself towards something like training, or learning something would mean that Verge would do really, really well in it so long a sense it suits him. Of course, since he's not that old Verge hasn't found that much to devote himself too, but as one would guess by the title overcoming his cowardice will be his very first main goal.

Kindness is the last trait, and it's basically as straightforward as one might think. Verge will generally be a "Nice" digimon. Pretty friendly, to others a bit more generous than normal and generally not a dick. Buuuut, this category also includes stuff like putting down digimon too wounded to survive as it would be kinder to just end their suffering. Right now the Shyness, and Cowardly traits suppress it a bit just like the Wrath sin.

If anyone is wondering just why Verge has these specific traits? Well it wasn't pure GM Fiat, it actually has something to do with the quest title.

Well this is gonna be an interesting combination moving forward, like the semi-synergy between the different traits.

Which might really play into our current lot, as the way we might have died if the dream was one of our last lives looks to be real doozy of a way to get offed. What with it seeming to burn everything of our very being at the time with cleansing light and with how we seem to still have a phobia of such a attack after even death is rather crazy. Since when you think about it, what is one of the best ways to get away from a all burning hateful light? By very, very deep underground. Which when you think of what we are now and how our first instinct seems to always be run or burrow and our entire powerset currently all about such paints a interesting picture.

Also, if I'm right here we might end up having more dreams like we did since popping the cork on past trauma like we might have isn't something that usually goes away easily. An with our already cowardly nature, I expect night terrors might become rather common for us soon. So we might want to think of a way to counter such issue if they do indeed crop up here in the following days.
This is an amazing post, bravo Ironforge. While I can't confirm everything you wrote, I will say that more dreams are coming in the future.
It also showed him surviving at the end as something protected him before passing out
Well not quite. While I won't confirm the actual end result, Verge thought that the dream ended with him being deleted. Though he doesn't exactly have a clear picture.

Beyond that it ended with the whole crushing pain thing, something that Verge is quite sensitive about.

2nd Day Of Darkness: Gathering Stuff With Fu &-Goblimon!
Winning Vote:

[] Go with Fu. She's small and has tiny arms without claws. So not nearly as frightening as Gnaw. Plus finding plants could be....interesting you guess? Honestly, the idea of trying something new does make you a bit nervous.

===

In the end, you decide to join Fu in her task of gathering plants. As much as you'd like to spend more time around Flamemon, that would mean also being around Gnaw and you're a bit wary of the older rookie....even if he did apologize.

A-and g-gathering plants can't be that d-dangerous right? I-it could be interesting..I hope.

While the prospect of trying something new does make you nervous, it's doubtful that this particular thing will be dangerous. A sharp pang of guilt hits your chest as you remember enjoying the fact that Fu ran into a tree last night. So, after taking a deep breathe to calm yourself, you ask Gramps where Fu is. He answers quickly, directing you towards the village's front gate.

=== (Linebreak because the last update covered Gramps leaving)

You quickly shuffle around, and then start walking towards the designated area. Because of your current position near the huts on the left side of the village, you're able to reach the gate at the front quickly. Passing beneath the large Tree Of Rebirth in the center of the village, you're careful not to go too close as Gramps is currently napping underneath it. Once you get back from the task, you're probably going to have to go to the storehouse on the right side of the village in order to drop off the supplies. Fu proves to be standing just inside the open area where the doors barring entrance to the village are normally shut and she lets out a small small cackle as you approach.

"Fufufu, I see that you have picked the obvious choice!" The lalamon shouts ahppily, "You'll be helping me right fufu?"

"Y-yeah"

"Hrm. Good Fufu. Follow me!" With that the small rookie spins around and starts running.

"H-hey wait!"

You're forced to scramble after the plant digimon in order to catch up, pushing your agility to its very limit. She makes sure to be just slow enough as to not leave you behind, though not so much as to allow you to gain ground on her quickly. While she doesn't spend more than a few minutes leading you on, it's still enough for you to be breathing heavily by the time you actually do catch up. Fu finally drops into a nice and slow walking pace as you reach her, allowing you to slow down and reach her.

Before you can attempt to ask the rookie why she just took off like that, Fu starts talking.

"Right! Fufu, The first spot is a few minutes thataway!" The Lalamon hops up, and turns to the left. "Gramps told Meeeee where the patches are, Verge! So we'll be gathering the plants Fufufu!"

You nod along in understanding, but can't help but feel as if she isn't finished.

"So, fufu, get down!"

That particular sentence makes you tilt your head in confusion.

"Y-you want me to g-get down?"

Fu doesn't bother repeating herself, instead opting to take a deep breath. For a moment your eyes widen as she gets ready to attack, then your body leaps into action curling down to the ground with your paws moving to shield your eyes. Shortly thereafter something small and light object lands on your back.

"Fufufu. Niiiiice and Fuzzy!" The Lalamon chuckles "Now get up and start walking Fufu! I will keep a look out for any dummy Goblimon"

A strange mix of disgruntlement, and relief mix inside your chest. She's just tricked you into cowering with a threat, then used the opportunity to mount you. However the fact that she's looking for Goblimon, whatever those are, is comforting to know. Then you realize the terrifying fact that she could spit a nut towards your head at point point blank range and you quickly get up to start following her order. Several minutes pass in silence as you carry the smaller rookie through the woods, but it's broken as the digimon gives a small laugh.

"Fufufu. You should be thanking me Verge" The Lalamon says, "Thanks to me and Gnaw you found out something new! I bet you can use that to get less afraid!"

I-it wasn't -like that! Being scared....Being scared isn't! Fun!

Anger suddenly swells up in your chest at her remark, urging you to buck the bully off of your back. However that anger is then confronted by the fear and reason inside you which point out that if you did that she'd probably hurt you, like a lot. So you simply slump your shoulders and suffer in silence as she continues to congratulate herself about *helping you*. This continues on for a while with you not really bothering to listen before she does say something that does get your attention.

"-Hrn..Verg I-well... You're lucky to be so close to Flamemon fu fu" The Lalamon says, her tone dipping down from cheery to slightly melancholic. "He doesn't seem to notice me much fufu, not like he pays attention to you," A hint of bitterness enters her voice. "He's so strong, courageous....and cool" She lets out a sad sigh.

"Y-yeah he is" you agree, thinking about all the times he's helped you. "Flamemon I-is. W-well I want to be l-like him one day"

Even though th-that will never h-happen.

"Fufufu really?"

"Y-yes. I-I don't like b-being scared" You admit, before hanging your head. "H-he's like the o-opposite of m-me"

"Tehe. Yep." The Lalamon laughs. "It's a good goal Fufu!"

"Th-thanks Fu"

"Of course! Tehe!"

The two of you continue to talk for a bit longer, though it mostly consists of your companion gushing about how great your mutual friend is. You don't particularly mind it.

Roughly five more minutes of walking finally sees you to the spot Fu had found about from Gramps. It's a small clearing with a single odd tree clear in the middle. This is where your passenger disembarks, sliding down your side before rushing over towards the strange flora. The small rookie reaches it quickly, lightly leaping up to a branch before gripping the very closest pod.

"Come help Fufu!" The rookie shouts.

You warily approach the strength growths on the tree, but nonetheless follow Fu's command, balancing up on your hind legs and trying your best to grasp one of the lower lightly colored pods. Unfortunately you drill-claws are no well suited for this, and instead you end up gouging the sides of the plant-thing instead of plucking it free.

"Gramps said that these have something to do with food!" Fu cries, struggling desperately to even pull free. "But he wouldn't tell me why, Fufu"

Huh. I-I wonder w-why

An hour of working later sees you standing beside a small pile of mangled pods, but it's more than Fu. She only managed to pluck three before having to "go rest up" underneath the tree. You're about to go try and wake the napping rookie up when a noise from behind startles you.

"Gwahahaha! We got purple thing to smash!"

Three large green digimon stand at the edge of the clearing, holding wooden clubs in their left hands. Each one bounces up and down, either excitedly murmuring about smashing or laughing in a way that's frighteningly similar to Gnaw. Fear burst into your chest yet another time, freezing you in place as the loud creatures walk closer vicious grins clear on their faces.

O-oh n-o!

"Get him!" The digimon in the center cries raising his club into the air. Both of the Goblimon flanking him rush forwards aiming to bring their clubs down on your motionless body. But then-

"Seed Blast!"

Fu!

Dozens of hard nuts shoot out from the top of the tree, stopping one of the Goblimon clear in its tracks before it can get close. Your would be attacker collapses to the grass-covered ground with a thump, club forgotten as he cradles his bruised head.

The other green rookie stops confusedly in place as his comrade goes down, only to be met with a similar fate as Fu attacks again. Her attacks manage to snap you free of the fear-based paralyzation and just in time too. The third goblimon is still running towards you, ready to fight.

You take a deep breathe and:

===

Choose One:

[] Dig! If you hurry, maybe you can get away far enough underground to hide.
[] Run! You have to get away! He's going to try and delete you!
[] Fight! You can't just abandon Fu here! (Blocked by Coward Trait)
[] Flail! You're not going to be able to get away in time. So just close your eyes to avoid seeing the digimon attack. Just swing your nose and paws around.

=== Stat Changes:
  • Strength: 28.75->30.50
  • Fortitude: 25.5
  • Endurance: 26.75->28.50
  • Agility: 16->17

We're potentially heading for our first combat here! Beta'd by the awesome @SailorOfMyVesssel.

Yeah, let's try and get rid of the coward trait and, since we're pretty strong, we should do some damage

Aaah. I should mention that this will lead to character progression depending on which option is chosen.
[X] Run! You have to get away! He's going to try and delete you!

Time to deploy the secret Jojo family technique

:p
Innocent whistle.:whistle:

Though I should mention that Verge's speed is his lowest stat.
Yeah, let's try and get rid of the coward trait and, since we're pretty strong, we should do some damage
Well getting rid of it isn't that easy. But it will be possible to chip away at it bit by bit.

[X] Run! You have to get away! He's going to try and delete you!

We have a ranged attacker on our back. Running means they get hit and we don't.

And Flail allows us to start to chip away at our cowardice trait and makes sure Fu doesn't get surrounded and slaughtered by two enemies at once!

There are more important things here, and this is more of a character decision.

Yeah, let's go the route of the bruisy weapons :D

Fu is not on Verges back at the moment. She got off when they arrived at the clearing.

It also puts Verge in danger, as this is his first actual fight. He's literally closing his eyes and flailing at the enemy.

Plus it doesn't actually take one enemy away the two goblimon attacking her are still ready to fight, one was just kinda stunned because he got hit.

Though it does prevent things from devolving to 3Vs1. Which would be bad.

But yes this is an important character decision.

I don't care greatly what wins, but I found this funny.

We are a mole, let us do the proper mole thing and dig, dig and dig.

Blindly swing around is probably not going to help much. So eating those attacks might be helpful as those are not the tax aim towards our only fighter. And as other people have pointed out it might start chipping away at the cowardness.

Running as much is it appeals to my inner Jojo is just straight up a bad idea as our speed stats sucks. However it will likely drag one of them all way to chase after and beat us so she just has to deal with a 2v1.

Digging is our best bet for escape as I'm willing to bet that we are stronger than the Gobomon and he can't exactly follow us in the ground burrowing is probably the best escape ability a Digimon can have save teleportation as fans of Infamy will know. However that leaves Fu with a 3 v1 and while these are mooks I don't like her odds.

Well something to consider about the flailing is that the opponent is a goblimon, and it doesn't seem special at all. It's most likely method of attack is going to be rushing into flailing range in order to club Verge.

Yep. Very true. Plus she does have the terrain advantage, being up out of their reach for the moment without any real cover for her opponents.

Save teleportation? Blegh. No I don't have that here. But yes digging from the looks of things isn the best way to escape, though Verge may get hit once anyway while he's burrowing down into the ground.

I don't know if anyone really wants to know this, but I feel like it would be a good idea to just get this out there in case anyone is wondering how the various digimon relate to each other in terms of scale. I do have an actual height in mind for each of them. To those who've seen the various series, the height of rookie digimon can change dramatically between shows and species.

Flamemon is just a few inches under five feet, and the second tallest digimon encountered by Verge in the story. Though compared to the other digimon he is pretty skinny since proportionally he's built like a human.

Gnaw is just an inch or two taller than four feet, so as far as Gabumon/Backgabumon are concerned he's actually pretty large.

Gramps the Elecmon, when standing on his hind legs is actually only around three feet tall. It's just that he's really, really good at making himself look larger than he actually is. Kind of like a peacock really.

Lalamon is actually pretty small being only a little bit above 1 foot.

Lunamon (recently evolved) is only about 2 feet tall, though her ears and head protrusions make her look bigger.

Verge himself is about 3 feet tall when standing normally, though his habit of sinking low makes him think everyone else is bigger than they actually are. He's only a few inches smaller than Gnaw when standing on his hind legs. Though that's only now. He still has growing to do.

Auger is technically the very biggest of the cast standing at four feet when standing normally, and being the very bulkiest one there because of his armor. His tail also makes him the longest digimon here. If Auger was ever inclined to "stand up straight" he'd be even taller than Flamemon.

After confirming dig speed have to go with this .

Yeah, after getting more info here I'll me changing my vote. Since needing 10 full seconds to dig deep enough to safety is not something I think we are going to be getting here.

Though here is to hoping our mon doesn't have a weak stomach, as drills do not leave clean wounds at all.
