Deus Pater (Exalted/40k)

[X] Pride - You remember the Emperor's greatest triumphs, the deeds that pleased him most. Some were his own, some were performed by others, all hold a special place in his heart.

The imperium hardly needs any self pity

[X] Grief - You remember all that the Emperor most regretted, his greatest sorrows and self-perceived failures. The grief of an immortal is a terrible thing indeed, and oh, there is so much...

Because you know grief will have the birth of organized religion and the rise of the ecclesiarchy.

That is not a can of worms we should open right now.

I'm kinda thinking that this is how the Great Curse shall be manifested, and while breaking down in tears can be inconvenient, it's a lot better than berserk rage or completely ignoring that other people wouldn't agree with you.

Another thing to take into consideration is the effect that this will have on the Warp. The Imperium's collective belief that the Emperor is watching over them and in the Imperium itself has significant effects across the board - if we're too zealous in cutting that out before we have something to replace it with, one of the main pillars of strength supporting the Imperium will be lost, with disastrous effects. While practically speaking we might be overturning a great deal of how it works behind the scenes, it's extremely important that we keep a shiny exterior for the masses to believe in, because that effective belief is important.

I'm well aware that the fact we have to maintain PR even as countless atrocities go on is awful, but it's a reality of the setting.

Pride is right out because the Imperium is on a terrible course and there really just isn't that much LEFT to be proud about...if there ever was.

So that leaves Grief or Wrath.

I'm admittedly not the hugest fan of either as presented, but I don't think Grief is that motivating or quite as relevant--failures of oversight, failures of a lot of other people, failures of communication. Do better, maybe? But Wrath? There's a hell of a lot to be angry about for good reasons for why things are the way they are.

It seems that whatever memories we see will be witnessed by others, by the psykers and probably the sisters, so let's give them something to give them hope.
