It was another uneventful day at school. You can't say you expected much since it was the first week but you were still bored out of your mind. And so the students at your school did what most teenagers do when they are bored, talk about other people. The latest gossip was about how Hector had just gotten out of the hospital. The kid who beat him up must have really messed him up good. Of course, you're the only one that actually saw it happen and everyone else other than Mike believes you did it. Hector wasn't going to be back in school for a week due to a suspension but their were rumblings that he was looking to settle the score with you.

You decided to head to Gotham Boxing Gym, a newly opened gym that your uncle had gotten you a membership to. If Hector was gonna be looking for you when he got back to school you should at least be ready. As you entered the gym you noticed that all of the trainers were currently busy with other clients. You were about to leave until some kid your age offered to get a quick spar in with you. You were against it at first but he informed you that he was a newbie too and both of you could try and get better.
What a fucking liar.
From the first punch you realized you made a mistake when the kid effortlessly weaved your jab and countered by nailing you in the ribs. He then proceeded to beat you mercilessly for a few minutes before finishing you with a left hook that knocked you unconscious.
When you woke up the kid was gone and you were surrounded by a bunch of staff at the gym who gave you some water and determined that you had a mild concussion.

Today was a pretty light day at school. Since it was the first Friday of the school year the substitutes had you guys watch movies for the majority of the day. They were all movies you'd seen a thousand times before like `Home Alone` but it was better than taking notes or doing classwork. All in all it was a good day.

After school you headed to the mall again. It was busier than usual so instead of shopping around you got some Chinese at the food court. While you were eating a group of older girls sat themselves next to you asking about your party tomorrow. They introduced themselves as being friends of P.J and T.J. You informed them that the party was still a work in progress and the rest of time you all talked about how clueless the twins were.
You were surprised how naturally you were interacting with them. You wouldn't consider yourself someone who gets nervous talking to girls but at the same time you normally kept to yourself. You felt at ease conversing with the 3 college girls that you'd just met. They seemed to pick up on this too as they made several teases about you being a young ladies man. You didn't really see yourself as such but it was a title that was often give to your late father.

"Hey Mike." You greeted him as you opened the door. "Where were you at lunch today?"
"I got lunch detention for skipping bio to go play dodgeball." He grumbled.
"A worthy sacrifice." You nodded.
"So did you finally figure out what's been going on with that Sofia chick?" He asked, taking a seat on the couch.
"Yeah, actually...." You answered, thinking back to earlier today.

You were sipping a cart of orange juice outside, sitting on a grass field, enjoying the nice weather for recess. You were about to go back inside to grab another cart when you noticed a familiar sight sitting down.
You tapped the back of her shoulder. "Hey, you're Sophia right?"
You could tell from the look in her eyes that she knew she'd been caught.
"I just wanted to...." You couldn't really think of a polite way to put this. "Why were you following me the other day?"
"Ummmm..." She stammered, looking at the ground. "It's a really silly reason when you think about it."
There was a brief silence but you held your gaze, expecting a explanation. She just sighed and continued.
"I used to live back in Chicago with my dad and my mom stayed here. My dads business was involved with the dark side of the law." You could tell she didn't really want to get into it, a sentiment you could relate to.
"Long story short, he made me and my mom a lot of money but in the end he pissed off the wrong people. They killed him a few months ago.."
"I'm sorry about that." You somberly replied, looking down. You knew all too well what she was feeling.
"My mom is the only real family I have left, so I came here to stay with her. From the first day of school of everyone was really kind and helpful to me."
Helpful my ass. If you weren't a hot girl they wouldn't give a damn about you...
"I asked everyone if there was anything or anyone I should know about the school. And they all talked about you, about how your father was a famous mobster who was killed. Your story seemed similar to mine so I already felt a connection with you."

"But then the first day of school, when I was heading to the bathroom, I saw you for the first time when you came in. Your eyes are the same as mine." She whispered, staring at your eyes. "You have the eyes of someone twice your age."
You never realized you gave off that kind of energy but you understood what she was getting at. Being brought up in this life had naturally matured you way passed kids your age. It was one of the reasons you were able to handle stressful situations in a relatively calm manner most of the time.
"Like I said it's a silly reason but, I feel so out of place here. It was nice that there was someone here I could relate to." She half-smiled, playing with her hair. "I just didn't know how to bring myself to approach you. I know you must think I'm a weirdo...."
