This is an obvious sign that maybe we should stop trying to salvage our physical and combat stats and that we should perhaps focus on our mental stats...

Never! We have not yet crippled ourselves by going to the gym, we should do that before giving up.

Twice we went for training in physical\combat stats and twice it went wrong. I refuse to go for physical\combat training for a third time, as it is clear that we're not meant to raise those given how bad our results were.

Chapter 2 Update 28
Apologies for the delay, another phone update. I'm still without a laptop at the moment but I just ordered a new one so it should be here sometime next week. Once that comes in updates should return to being every other day or so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
School Roll = 34 Failure
School was uneventful yet again. You were still a step slow from the hangover of the ecstasy. You couldn't focus in class and the day slowly dragged on. Sophia decided to invite herself to your lunch table to the annoyance of Mike and his friends. She rambled on about trivial things while you half-listened waiting for the school day to end.
Pistol Training Roll = 1 Critical Failure =(
You decided to give pistol training another shot. No pun intended. No one was available after school to teach you so you turned to your cousins once again for guidance.
That was your first mistake.
P.J and T.J took you to the same spot in the woods where you practiced before.
"Okay Johnster, you still suck at aiming so we're gonna change up our routine today." P.J chuckled, slapping you on the back.
T.J handed you his pistol, it was a little heavier than P.J's but still a pistol nonetheless.
"We're working on your draw speed today. Like the old western movies." He said, quickly drawing his pistol from his jeans holster.
You rolled your eyes and tucked the pistol in your jeans.
"Trust us Johnopoly." T.J reassured you. "The quicker you can draw your weapon the better. Those crucial seconds can be the difference between life and death."
P.J walked a few feet in front of you and tucked his gun back into his pants as well.
"Alrighty, now on the count of 3 I want you to draw your gun as fast as you can and aim it at me." He stated. "If you manage to beat me I'll treat you to some McDonald's tonight!"
You weren't sure if that was supposed to be motivating or not.
"1.....2.....3!"
You lunged for the gun in your jeans with both hands. You couldn't get a proper grip as it fumbled around in your pants. When you finally got a handle on it you tightly grasped and pulled it out to a loud..
BANG!
For a brief moment all of your senses were suspended in time. Most likely from sheer shock.
Then the pain hit you and everything came back.
"Shit! T.J you didn't turn off the safety you fucking idiot!" You heard P.J yell from above you. At this point you were lying on the floor. Your right thigh was erupting in pain and the rest of your body felt numb. You could feel a puddle of blood underneath your right thigh.
"Fuck, fuck!" T.J exclaimed, his voice breaking. "We have to get him to the hospital now!" He lifted you up and sprinted to the car and that's the last thing you remember before you passed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You woke up in a hospital bed, IV's hooked up to your body. Standing across from you was your cousins, both soaked in blood and your Uncle Nico and Uncle Bobby.

A collective wave of relief flashed over your relatives faces as you opened your eyes. Both T.J's and P.J's eyes were bloodshot, you could tell that they had been crying. Your uncles on the other hand retained their usual calm demeanor but you could feel the anger emitting from them.

"Thank God, you're okay." Uncle Nico said, letting out a deep sigh. "Bobby can I have a minute with John."

Your uncle nodded, grabbing the twins and yanking them out the room.

"It's not their fault." You weakly croaked out, trying to defend your cousins. "I shouldn-"

"Save it John." He cut you off. "Accidents happen, I get that. But there is a large difference between accidents and stupidity. What you and your cousins did transcends stupidity."

You stayed silent while your Uncle continued to grill you, his expression slightly softening up.

"I can understand you wanting to learn how to defend yourself.. but why wouldn't you ask me? Or Uncle Bobby, or anyone that can tell the difference between their left and right?"

"Everyone was busy." You sheepishly muttered. "They were the only ones around."

"I see....It's partly my fault as well. For me to thrust you into this position without teaching your how to defend yourself was irresponsible. Next time you want to learn how to really use a pistol let me know. I'll make sure it gets taken care of properly."

[+40 added to next Pistol Training action, Auto Success!]

"So..." You mumbled, looking at your thigh. "What's the situation with my leg?"

"They stitched you up but their gonna keep you in the hospital for a few days. After that you'll be out but you'll be in crutches for two weeks."

[John is currently bed-ridden. He will miss this week of school and for the next two weeks he will be unable to perform any physical daily actions. All of his physical stats currently suffer a -10 penalty until he recovers.]

You groaned in response as your Uncle shook his head.

"Maybe that will teach you not to go playing cowboy with your dumbass cousins." He yawned. "Anyway, have you decided how you're going to track Zhang?"

"Sheesh, don't I get a sick day or something?" You joked.

"Crime stops for no one, not even the crippled."

Pick two methods of gathering info on Zhang Wei.

[] You know a few of Zhang's preferred locations to visit in the week. Have Mateo hang around those spots and follow him in his car. If you can get an idea of his everyday routes tracking him down would be a cinch.

[] Have Gabriel hack into his records and pull up any files on Zhang and his associates.

[] Send Willie to Zhang's favorite strip club, the 'Gold Liquor Cabaret'. He might be able to "forcefully" get information on Zhang from some of the clubs regulars.

[] One of the leads on Zhang is that he has an on and off girl that he is seeing. Maybe Samuele can help with this?

[] Free choice. (Write in)

[] Screw gathering info, you have a picture of what Zhang looks like. Have Boris wait at the 'Gold Liquor Cabaret' every night until Zhang eventually pops up. He can take out Zhang then and there. Mateo can handle the getaway. (If you choose this choice no other choices can be picked)

Even if the last one is a good idea (it isn't), we should be there for it and what's a terrible idea when we're still recovering.

[x] Have Gabriel hack into his records and pull up any files on Zhang and his associates.

This is generally pretty safe, I'm confidant a nobody like Zhang has the ability to trace back any hacking attempts even if we get discovered.

[x] One of the leads on Zhang is that he has an on and off girl that he is seeing. Maybe Samuele can help with this?

Tailing him might spook him enough to change his habits, forcefully extracting info will probably end up leading back to him, this seems like a softer approach. If it turns out Zhang and her are serious, a kidnapping and "ransom" might work.

...I am starting to like the cousins. I think their sheer dumbassery wrapped around and made them endearing again.
Just make sure to aim them at someone who needs their day ruined.

Chapter 2 Update 29
"Sounds good." Your uncle responded. "I'll relay the message back to your crew."

"You're leaving?"

"Hell yeah, I'm exhausted. I'll send dumb and dumber tomorrow to check on you. I took some articles from my reading desk for you to read in the meantime if you're bored. Get yourself up to date with the criminal underworld." He yawned before leaving the room.

While you were still drained from the events of the day you weren't ready to go back to sleep. You skimmed through the stack of articles your uncle left for you. The one that caught your attention was...

[] A classified FBI report from last year on the most wanted criminals in Brownsville, New York.

[] A newspaper article on the dangerous emerging gangs in the city.

[] A journal documenting the first 'Mob War' among the 9 families in the city.

[] A letter that looked like it was written a century ago. Some of the words were smudged and faded out but it seemed to be a severe warning about the Alfero family.

You'll be able to read all of the articles btw. This is just the order.

Seems most immediately relevant, noting that we will apparently eventually read all.

If we're gonna read them all might as well start with this one

Hey everyone. I know it's been a while since the last update. I've finally got a new laptop but I've taken a long break from this story due to an odd timing and combination of real life factors that made it hard for me to get on track with the quest. I should've given more of a heads up about the hiatus but I honestly wasn't expecting it to be as long as it was.

That being said this was probably my favorite quest to write, so I'm curious about what those of you who are still interested would like for me to do. I could continue on with quest at this current point in the story, reboot the quest under a new thread which would allow for you to select a new MC, a new family, and a new setting if you so choose, or just sack the the thread and quest altogether. I'll leave a poll up for you to decide.
