Daughter of the Sea: A Warcraft Quest

Chain of command has been updated to the second post!
I'd reccomend putting this sort of thing in an infopost. You'll end up doing so eventually if the quest goes for longer etc, eg, resources (numbers of men, artillery, ships), demographic splits (10% of the expedition are dwarves), and then more emphemeral things like the chain of command. That way you don't have to keep updating your story posts.

Interlude: Riderless Storm

Riders on the Storm:

But the Storm cannot be Tamed

Across an ocean deep and the Maelstrom wide, Thrall's Horde had found troubled allies: The Darkspear tribe on their fledgling islands, making a desperate living among the poor and the wretched. They supped on dredges of water, while the Kul Tiran garrison on the main island held fast over the only source of clean water. Sen'jin of the Darkspear tribe, their chieftain and esteemed elder above all, honoured the old alliances formed between Warchief Doomhammer and Zul'jin, despite their cultural differences. Many within Thrall's Horde believed them opportunists, weakling escaping a certain death, when they pledged themselves to the Horde. They assembled their forces on the southern isles. Thrall assembled his shamans to beseech the elements to support them on their endeavour, while Sen'jin brought the boon of the Sea and the Land in the form of strong poisons and strange, Loa-ridden warriors, that Thrall's Horde used to deadly effect against the Kul Tiran garrison. They attacked before dawn, when the morning's fog covered the islands in deep, thickset blankets of white. Raging, with the elements on their side, the Orcs attacked with the support of the Trolls. Two of the southern towers fell during the first push of the onslaught, and the harbour soon burned to the roar of Orc and Troll. Ships fled quickly, opting the dangers of the raging sea instead of the Horde outside their walls - only to meet their end, as Thrall called upon Neptulon to strike them down with salt and water. Few escaped, many became slaves to the Orcish Horde's will.

Once Daelin Proudmoore's soldiers were driven off from the islands, Warchief Thrall had called the day won. Together with the Chieftain of the Darkspear tribe, Sen'jin, the leaders pledged themselves to support each other in the coming days. Whatever came, whatever stood opposed to them, they would stand together. Warchief Thrall, the Lord of the Clans, made the other clans swear to uphold this vow to their last drops of blood. Grom Hellscream, of the Warsong Tribe, offered his axe to Sen'jin and Thrall - to forever uphold their alliance, the Axe would sing with the blood of their enemies.

The Orcs and the Trolls would stand together.

Until the Sea Witch roused from the deep, and attacked.

They opposed them for days. Fishmen, octopus-headed creatures, the dangers of the Deep. Thrall lead his Orcs courageously against the incoming tide of seadwelling devils - together with Nazgrel they ensured the withdrawal of the Orcish ships and peons, until Thrall was captured alongside with the Darkspear leadership. In the depths of a forgotten Elven stronghold - buried deep underneath the Darkspear's islands - Thrall awoke to pain and sorrow. He was naked upon an altar of sorts, surrounded by a kneeling throng of robe-donning fishcreatures. He felt a thousand eyes watching him, judging him, until somewhere, far away, the distant flap of infinite wings heralded his fate. He fought against his constraints, beseeching the elements within the stronghold to awaken, and rose in defiance. His roar: a warcry to bring even Gromm Hellscream to his mother's skirt in fear, echoed across the Stronghold, as Thrall fought against the tide of Murlocs and Naga. He found allies in the nearby cells, Orcs and Trolls taken for sacrifice, who upheld their oaths and stood with him against the dangers in the dark. Further in, they plunged like a dagger.

Above, Grom Hellscream assembled Thrall's Horde in the ruins of the Kul Tiran harbour. He called for the ships to return, for the shamans to tend to the wounded and to the hostility of the sea - he was preparing to leave upon a moment's notice. He would not be caught unaware, like Thrall had been. He called for his Warsong and Nazgrel's Frostwolves. Together, they tracked down the Fishcreatures for days across the pine-and-spruce woods. There, among the rock and root, they found a decrepit entrance to a long forgotten Stronghold. Together with their warriors, they streamed in - axes rattling against shields, cries breaking the silence of the grave, they killed, they got their vengeance and they pushed on. Corridor after corridor, they passed the ancient murals of a long lost civilization, painted the walls with the blood of fishmen and softened the floor with their insides. Bone broke after bone, and Hellscream shouted on.

"FOR THRALL!"

Deep beneath the earth, the Warsong and Thrall's survivors made battle with the Fishpeople in the depths of the Elven stronghold. Thrall, nearly turning red from the bloodlust, came upon an altar of sorts to a woman with a hundred, twisting hands of snakelike proportions. She was surrounded by spear-wielding warriors, all showing reverence to her and to her beauty. Upon a stoneslate before her was Sen'jin of the Darkspear. He was bleeding profusely from wounds in his abdomen, and Thrall was shocked. This was his newest friend - a master of Troll magic and Shamanistic ways - dying like a pauper at a ball. He attempted his best, beseeching the elements to revive his friend, until a blue hand rose in a fist.

"The Horde will neva' die, Thrall."
"My people will neva' die."
"The vision told me you would lead my people off this island."

Lead them home, Thrall,
a voice within him called.

Sen'jin died with an independent soul. Proud and everstanding. Fist raised in clear defiance against the Kul Tirans and the Fishpeople. Thrall took his hand in his own and pledged to see his people to safety. Even from the dangers of the Stronghold, even across the Sea and even there - uphold the pledge, until his own bones became bleached by the sun and finally picked clean by the vultures. This he promised, and took up his hammer. Battle continued rage across derelict corridors. Upon them, the floor became to cave in and the Fishpeople became more and more numerous in the corridors. Grom Hellscream found Thrall in the depths of the Stronghold, nurturing a wound inflicted by a poisonous spear. Together, the Brother-of-Blood-and-Honour, stood against a tide of wroth. Axes swung, Doomgammer flew and spears met spears. War had come to the Stronghold, and Grom and Thrall had blood on their tongues.

Unfortunately, their numbers lessened, while the enemies grew and grew.

Thrall and Grom turned to flee, before the hour was too late.

Remember our Warchief - our Prophet.
Grom's forces pushed through the Stronghold, until they reached the entrance they'd come through. Pushing on, wounded and weakening, the group would not stop. Nearing the camp, hounded by the Fishmen a moment of vengeance occured. From the woods, the Kul Tirans seized the moment and attacked. Already wounded, Thrall took an arrow through the arm and a Dwarven fireblast into chest. Grom continued the fight, until the Kul Tiran force broke off into the woods. Grom Hellscream, a veteran of Three Wars, rushed to Thrall's side. He caught his bloody hand, while the shamans attempted their wily spells. He heard some words from the Warchief's lips, but none can be certain. The only thing all knew from thereon, was that Grom Hellscream now lead the Horde to Kalimdor.

And the Humans would pay for the death of their Prophet.

It's very exciting really. The implications. With thrall dead our most worrying opponent is Rexxar.

Grom is an terrifying warrior...he's also an bloodthirsty idiot who can't control his bloodlust and always go for the worst choices and refuse to back down.

The Horde and Darkspear Trolls took a lot of losses here, and they won't forgive, or forget Thrall's death, with Grom once swear he never stopped fighting, or make peace with the humans.

Now? Goodluck with that.

No idea if/when this affects first meetings with the Tauren, or Cairne putting up with Hellscream for very long.

Never mind Mannoroth will have fun times with Grommash for sure.

is Grom gonna go find Mediv or is he just gonna stay in Durotar and Barrens fighting the factions there while looking for the humans?

On his own, he's far more likely to strike an claim in Kalimdor and when he learns of us, attempt to wipe us off the face of the Earth in a bloody war of revenge.

Granted, he might try and look for Medivh, to honor Thrall, but that is kinda unlikely to say the least.

And that's not getting into them turning Red.

I don't recall whether Thrall told anyone else about his search for the Prophet anyway, so presumably Grom will just lead a more general settlement rather that one to specifically do Medivh's stuff.

Comendable @Mannerheim that there's already butterflies!

Is everyone on board with the genocide plan now? Having an external enemy will be very useful for our legitimacy.

"The Orcs killed my brother, vote for me otherwise they'll kill your family too!" and so on.

Grom is gonna bleed his horde on the Harpy, Quilboar and Centaur factions, this is good for us as it will mean more dead orcs and trolls, and we might ally with some of those factions

Let's use our Shamans and Druids to ally with the Tauren before the Orcs can! We can kill centaurs and whatever, to make friends with the big niceboys from Mulgore.

I'm still not with 'Plan: Genocide' but I am for with breaking the Horde into a lot of petty states if it really have to come to it.

We could have work out an deal with Thrall. Grom? Not a chance.

If nothing else, we really should try and make a good relations with the Tauren, and really try at befriending with the Night Elf.

Yeah, I think that avoiding genocide would be Very Based if at all possible. Which I think it is.

Indeed.

I really have so much trouble in trying to figure out what to do with the Horde in the short and long term, or how to even talk with them. And what steps to combat them when it comes down to it.

Grom Hellscream is the furthest thing from Thrall you can get, and I even doubt the Orcs could stay together without an strong leader like Thrall, or Grom in the long run this soon before they even get to Kalimdor. More so given the Blood Curse is still an big thing at work.

Genocide is for demons and nerds, just like bigotry. Let's listen to their grievances and try to mediate a peace!

While we go and help the Tauren, at least.

Well we can at minimum try, though the orc's fel-curse might push them to senseless violence.

Being real, our best bet might be to wait until Grom inevitably fucks up insanely hard somehow and gets into a war with the quillboar, centuar, nelves and the demons. All at once. He fucking hates us, but us saving his ass and his people from complete and total destruction might help change his attitude. It'll at least get him to moderate his opinion on humans somewhat.

You know...it kinda funny in the wrong kinda way in just standing there, and seeing that all go down. It's dame tragic, but works best for us and the rest of the world if it actually can knock some sense into his head. Even at great cost.

Yeah! Lets wait until he's enemies with four other races, and come to his aid when they've kicked his ass enough to admit he'll die without us, and then pay a bloody tole saving him from his own stupidity!

Or we could, you know, side with the people he's going to piss off ahead of time and be part of an alliance against the rage ruled leader?

Magic. Use Magic to grow tusks.
Well if we are groing them with magic, I guess we might as well upgrade to Troll tusks.

Tauren and Nelves and maybe Quillboar are viable allies, imo. Centaur are horrible, and demons can go eat dongs in the nether.

Well yeah, demons are out. Centaur are best as a diversion foe. Quillboar might be a last minute addition where we ambush his forces attacking them after they've already taken some losses. I just don't see us negotiating a straight forward alliance without a noble gesture while there in a tight spot.
