Stubborn because that's fitting for Orpehus, who was stubborn enough to attempt to rescue his beloved from the afterlife, and Inquisitive because he just couldn't help but look back.
Staff/Wand since we're clearly not a frontline fighter anyway, so might as well.
Miraculite case because instant Magical Girl-ification probably doesn't come easily, and there's two freebies in there.

Still trying to find good pictures for potential magical girl forms but for now a possible image of Ai herself


the anime girl this is drawn from is the aptly named Zetsubouda Meru from 100 Kanojo. This girl fell into Despair as a young teen and only sees hope in Fairy Tales so I figured this would be a fitting appearance for a girl who only has love for Magical Girls. if Quiet and Withdrawn wins she'd probably have black bead eyes while in the background. when you're actively paying attention to her she's hauntingly beautiful with eyes you could just Fall Into.

note: sorry for the sheer size of the image Zetsuboada was only recently introduced so I didn't have many options for getting this image.

This is the only one of the top 5 I like. Death is just too over the top, moon is just too much leaning into tropes, but eldritch is at least somewhat fun of messing with space and time to drop magicals off the roofs of buildings when they try to attack us.

What, a detective needs a gun. And well, it's a fun option no one has looked at yet if we want to keep focusing on spellcasting.

Anyways, that should be all the votes I approve of. I'm fine with a weapon over a staff, as the penalty isn't that bad in exchange for more health. Wand is fine, as long as it isn't paired with Wallflower (which to be fair, is a completely overdone personality in my mind). Moon is just ugh, no. Filia in A Magical Anomaly has the "Elegant Princess Villain" cornered, and I don't want to be constantly walking in her shadow.

Honestly, of all the aesthetics I wish was in the running, I really wish Punk was higher.

I don't actually care all that much about tropes - If anything, I think we could do with more well done shows about unashamedly Pink and girly heroines using heart shaped laser blasts that neatly avoid collateral damage. Moon is fine as an aesthetic to me, if a bit more towards the middle of the pack.

...But I really, really want the Image of a deeply stressed and tired and angry magical girl just letting out all her frustrations as she shreads a power chord before doing a FLCL/Hi-Fi Rush guitar attack.

I am going to be blunt - any vote with Quiet and Withdrawn is a fucking mistake. The text itself calls out what will happen with that route - we become a spy on the inside of the Magical Girl Squad. Which both guarantees us being redeemed (what story has a Spy on the Inside at the start who doesn't go good) which is Lame, I'd like it to at least be a fucking struggle if we want to redeem ourselves, and also means the most interesting bits of being a Dark Magical Girl (fighting good magical girls, being smug) are sealed off to us until our Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal. Yes, yes, synergy and mechanical bonuses, but narratively this basically fucking kills everything interesting about the setup so far for the most generic and boring shit imaginable. I urge anyone voting for a plan with Quiet and Withdrawn to change your votes to Literally Anything Else.
 
I'm not a fan of investigative either. Finding the 'truth' also seems like a recipie for 'heel turning'.

When I can muster up the effort to change my post (read when my hyperfixation wears off and I get some food), I'll consider adding it to the list of votes that I'm going to edit into my earlier post.

Though personally, I think that whilst Stubborn is investigative, it's at least more likely to lead third faction in a kind of Shadow the Hedgehog/Seto kaiba kind of way - definitely one of the good guys, but would literally die before admitting it or making a friendship speech.

I personally view Cynical as being the one that, whilst I think is the strongest in sheer force of personality, also has it's own potential to pivot hard - with Cynical and Quiet, they both feel like more traditional MG villains who are redeemed either by relearning hope or having someone... believe in...

Oh shit is this a "Hope, Love, Justice" vote?

I just realised that each of the three is missing something thematically - Cynic is a lack of hope (Nothing can or will ever get better), Quiet is a lack of Love (isolation form other people) and Stubborn is a lack of Justice (Yume's murder remains unsolved and we refuse to accept that).

...In which case, can we pick either Stubborn or Cynic? I echo hellgodrus's point, though I hadn't considered that angle before, but I also really don't want to treble down on the love theme and would like having multiple aspects tied into things.

I personally don't see the problem with Quiet and Withdrawn (hence why my plan has it) considering the fact that even if we pick that option Ai will still have the aspects of being Bitter and Cynical along with being Stubborn and Inquisitive.

The reason I'm going with Punk Rock is because I want to focus in on the Pit of Anger at the world that exists in Ai's stomach rather than the Mystery implied by the Moon or the quieter cynicism implied by Death (plus Punk Rock gives us musical numbers).

The entire point of my vote isn't playing the Quit Withdrawn Girl who needs the Power of Love to save her. it's that Quit girl who thinks Humanity was a mistake but Magical Girls are the one thing the Earth got right. We'll use the Power of L*** to burn everything we don't l*** to the ground. Good, Evil, let's be a third thing that ends up wrecking Good and Evil's shit and creates a paradise just for Magical Girls. Each Magical Girl that joins us gets to choose one thing they really like that we'll keep in the New World Order and one thing they hate that we'll destroy utterly. Wouldn't a world like that just be grand.

Basically voting most of the plans/aesthetics I enjoy the most.

Reapers apprentice holds a commanding lead, and whilst some might think it's overly edgy... it's pretty clearly a deep and core part of Ai's personality. Not just in her sisters death, but in that she has not moved past it and cannot let go - especially wiht the stubborn personality trait. Having to deal with some of those aspects could lead to some interesting character stuff that I don't think most people have considered. Could Ai eventually come to accept it? Could she instead become even more obsessed and either go full necromancy or at the very least try to Kill (presumably) Fate? I just think its neat.

Gumshoes... honestly I just like some noir stuff and GUN WAND GUN WAND GUN WAND GUN WAND

Toxic Lesbian Doubledown is... Look, if this plan doesn't win, I really, REALLY want a character like her to be one of our trio. I want Punk rock Guitar Smashing magical girl so so bad.

Cynical moon... I actually kinda like this personality with moon the most? Almost poisonously bitter, but looking elegant whilst doing so.

And Thracian Bard... I like Orphic Stuff. It's a neat write in idea and I'd like to support it.

No scythe, regrettably. It's a Wand vote.

I personally don't want a skull staff though. I'd go for something more like a black iron rod topped with an Omega symbol, and in the little loop is a bell which makes no noise.
